What an amazing game it is! I didn't expect this from this game.. I just wanted to give it a try. Then I got addicted to it. :D Story is also very beautiful. And the gameplay is just too good. It took 12hours for me to finish the game...

    Just amazing!
It has everything that a good game should have starting with NOT taking itself to seriously. There are some absolutely crazy elements and weird machines, insane gun play (dual shotgun? sure!), and an absurd story line. Sure, it might not be an ambitious game and it may have almost no depth in it, but at the same time it is simply FUN to play - not a common thing these days!

I didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised. Apart from a few technical problems with graphics/AI (as mentioned by other reviewers) the game was pretty enjoyable. Solid story-line, good game flow and some Wolfenstein/Duke style humour. Enjoyed the stealth element but going in with dual guns blazing was even more fun!

WtNO's killer feature is the fact it's made for us, 20+ years old gamers. And what's even better is the fact the good ol' FPS design game deeper than ever. Now it's got a HUGE background story, nice dark plot, ton of little hints and details, live characters, list goes further. IMO, only two cons of this game are a bit weaker pacing in the second half of the game and the "Megatexture" technology, which overall looks nice but sometimes it's acting weird and looking very low-res. So, 8,5/10. Looking forward for story expansion pack (or a new game), want so badly to know what's happened with the world after all. Expand

I did not have any urge to play it until I heard the song - German version of House of the Rising Sun. I really liked it and wanted to check out more. I really like the idea of alternate history and what would happen after that.

I was expecting something more open-world and for a moment it seemed that that was something that they were going for (at least partially with the mini-quests) but perhaps they did not have the time to develop it. Storywise - the game takes place in alternative timeline where Nazis won the war thanks to some impossible technology. The only person who can stop this is William J Blazkowicz - main protagonist in all games of the series. I think thats really refreshing after all those modern and current warfares of the 2010's

I was a bit disappointed as character development was a bit lacking although it was fun to listen to various languages being spoken instead of English with funny accents (mainly German and Polish). The narration is a powerful mix of Inglorious Basterds with Iron Sky and a pinch of Ocean's Eleven.

As for the gameplay - it offers a joyride of a modern shooter with scripted events and some oldschool mechanics (you can regain full health only with medpacks) - ridiculous double weapon setups and hordes of enemy soldiers and robots. It is not your typical shooter, although feels more up-to-date than most of oldschool ride like recent renditions of Shadow Warrior or Rise of the Triad.

Visually - it is certainly not a next-gen experience. Although I like the smooth look of faces and cinematic cutscenes the visuals seem somewhat lacking - idTech 5 is still a work in progress ridden with problems - low res textures and some heavy texture popping almost all the time (I guess 4 GB of RAM is to small for this engine) amd I do not think that we will see it in many games. What is sure - it certainly has a different feel than all those unreal engine games.

What is disturbing - the download is 40 GB - just like Titanfall - and - again like in Titanfall - theres vritually nothing in this game to justify it. I am no developer but I did not see any high quality textures nor did I hear that much variety of sound to justify it.

Other than that - the games was a fun ride for 10 hours. I doubt I will replay it though - there is alternative timeline which gives you small changes in layout, there are some collectibles and game modes to unlock, however nothing worthy of repeating it, at least not immediately after.
Given the pluses and minuses of the game I had hell of a fun, more than I ever had from single player modes for quite some time. Bioshock was interesting but not that fun. Dishonored was pretty close but again - it was a different kind of game - lacking the pure mindless fun. For me, given its minuses, its a solid 8.

Some imaginative detail in the environments. Enemy AI is sometimes challenging, as flanking manoeuvres or storm-troopers with armour can be particularly challenging if you don’t have the right ammo/weapon. In fact, on the higher difficulty levels, some of the combat scenarios are pretty tricky. Unexpectedly good stealth elements to the game allow for some degree of choice as to how you progress through levels, but even when alarms are raised and gun-battle commences, it is mostly a lot of fun. There’s also an impressive set of solid weapons to play with, and even duel-wield and upgrade.
I had some texture pop-in issues, exactly the same as with Rage, but after downloading a beta Nvidia driver, the issue was mostly resolved.
Regarding the tone of this nod to Inglorious Bastards, I couldn’t help but stab, shoot and kill Nazis with a certain amount of glee. There’s no love lost here for the future Nazis, after the opening sequence you feel a certain amount of blood boil and literally just want to get to the end as quickly as possible and enact a violent retribution upon the main villain. Ethically I have no problem with this, as long as you take it in the same vein as watching a Tarantino movie. You’re asked to commit an enormous amount of violence, but at no point did I feel worried that I had become “as bad” as them. There’s also some dry humour here too. Imagine walking around a Nazi moon base and reading a newspaper cutting that says that Brits have gone off fish & chips and now find sauerkraut more palatable!
As much as I generally enjoyed playing this game and would definitely recommend it to those looking for a challenging and engaging FPS single-player campaign, I’m taking two-points away from Wolfenstein: The New Order for two reasons: Firstly, the final boss sequence is literally impossible on the harder levels, and rather annoying and not a lot of fun; the ending seems a tad rushed. The other reason is due to the texture pop-in issue. Surely someone should have realised, post-Rage, that the ID tech, whatever it is, has graphical/driver issue that should be fixed BEFORE launch. Was kind of annoying.

Ever since, I've kept a close eye on the franchise and enjoyed every iteration, including the recent 2009 game that has sadly vanished without a trace for potential buyers. However, this new entry makes up for that with flying colors!

Wolfenstein: The New Order is, without a doubt, one of the most fun shooters of all time and possibly one of the best shooters ever made. Love, passion, and polish have been put into this game, and I have a lot to talk about. But let me try to make this as brief as possible, so you can get the best review possible!

The gameplay, which is exceptionally fun, allows for a great deal of freedom. Stealth, tactics, or assault. Gameplay can flow between any of these three at any moment. Although the level designs consist of corridors or big open atriums, they still allow for a lot of freedom in how you want to approach a situation. Within these levels, you can find any number of hidden goodies to find, such as collectible gold or special codes that unlock additional game modes. You also will find plenty of useful items hidden in fun locations. Although there is some level of linearity, the game still has alternate paths you can take, even if not all the time.

As you gun down waves of Nazis using some of the best gunplay I've ever heard or witnessed, the gun toting hero will unlock "perks" which provide passive bonuses in 4 perk trees. Although it isn't as robust or plentiful as, let's say, the perks in Fallout games, it is still a rather welcome modern addition and doesn't detract from the game.

The game also gives ample reason to replay it, and not just for the collectibles, as their are two alternate "timelines" which bump up the game to 20 hours of playtime! A major two way choice at the beginning of the game will actually CHANGE a few things about the game, including the characters you meet and what major area traversal skill you have. For example, lockpicking or hotwiring.

Now, the final aspects of the game are the story, setting, writing, graphics, sound, and characters. All of it is actually really surprising. The world is full of creative vision, texture, and flavor (the graphics are pretty nice, but rely heavily on effects). White concrete buildings with red Nazi banners proudly flapping in the wind, a group of prisoners being bullied by Nazi scum, and other things help to add to the world. The characters and story is shockingly good too. But before you criticize it, keep in mind that this in context with what kind of crazy game Wolfenstein is. The game has the best story it could possibly have in its current form! The voiceovers are brilliant, the cutscenes are seamless and cinematic. The characters feel very human and world weary, showing the horrors of Nazi rule!

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a qaulity shooter. It has some snags, of course, keeping it from its momentum towards success. Graphics problems, people having trouble running the game, mouse sensitivity issues in the menus/journal, and a few minor bugs. The game, also, can be repetitive or too linear, but that is a matter of subjective perspective.

I can safely say, with all of that said, that this is one of the best shooters at least for the year 2014. It's excessively fun, balls to the wall, and very playable. It has soul that so many shooters are lacking lately, and it will fill in that gap in your soul as well if you are a fan of shooters! Get this game, you will not regret it, shooter fans OR Wolfenstein fans!

The progress cannot be saved everywhere - the saves are location based. However this isn't a major problem. More annoying is the weapon swap system - turn the mouse wheel to get a circular menu to pick the weapon from. Most of the time is fine, but in the heat of the battle is less than ideal! Would it be too much to ask for a PC-only control? Drop that circular control for PC users! We don't use gamepads! This is the main reason for an 8/10.

Fortunately, I got the DVD disks rather than the download. I am glad I did that - this game will take a massive 47GB of your hard drive! 11 of them will have to be downloaded after the disk installation anyway! HD's are cheap these days, but it could be a problem for some if not much space left inside the box.

Graphics are OK on my 4year old machine. Nothing special but no frame-rate problem like in most newly released games (BF4, Ghosts, Titanfall).

Some complain this doesn't have a multiplayer. Yes, it is true, but buy it just for the single player - it is beautifully done (in a creepy, nazi evil way, of course). A multiplayer may emerge in the future. If the maps will be as well thought as the single level ones, we may be in for a surprise. Of course, they could fail the MP by not releasing public sever files!

This game is a breath of fresh air in the world of PC gaming, where we were promised so much lately, only to be disappointed time and time again.

    Buy it!

Wolfenstein is simplistic, yet a lot of fun.

The story was captivating, but not something that had me clinging to my keyboard and mouse desperate to see what happens next. The use of cut scenes and attention to detail when it came to Blazkowicz's personal life did create an emotional side to the game, and added some level of realism. Overall I am satisfied with the story, but I have seen better.

My biggest gripe with the game was the AI enemies and the difficulty. AI seemed to act really stupidly in the game, and often I found exploits which made levels extremely easy. For example, at one point I was sat in a small pipe and the enemies were just bundling up in front of the pipe entrance, unable to crouch down and enter the pipe, whilst I just shot their legs and cleared an entire room without being shot at once. I was also playing on the second to hardest difficulty, and I died around 5 times throughout the entire game, which is too few in my opinion. For a game which defines the FPS genre, I felt the AI were fairly poor. Furthermore, optimisation for the game wasn't great. With a GTX 780 I should be getting at least 100fps with a game like this, considering the visuals and lighting weren't exactly Metro: Last Light standard. The game, despite vsync being turned off, was locked at 60fps, meanwhile I use a 110Hz monitor (overclocked) and could not go above 60fps. The depth of field was also extremely annoying, although you can turn it off manually in the game's notepad settings.

The gameplay is also very diverse, with tons of different things to do.

The stealth gameplay is very light, and pretty much missing from alot of sections of the game as the enemies are aware of your presence as soon as you enter the map, but it is present in plenty of other sections. Still, the enemies seem to be pretty bad at spotting you and also will not investigate if they see something strange. However they are smart enough to instantly sound the alarm if they see dead comrades or you kill their comrades in front of them.

The AI is pretty good. It takes cover, it throws grenades, uses more paths to get to you and doesn't pile by taking the same path towards you if there are more available, nothing out of the ordinary about it. And then it's dumb enough to stupidly advance towards you through open areas, as well as shoot their comrades in the back if they get in the line of fire.

Graphics are nice. The game doesn't have state of art breathtaking graphics, but that's ok because it doesn't really matter and the graphics are good enough for our times.

This game is retro breeze from the past but in a positive meaning. Take this game as an equivalent to Expendables movies. If Expendables showed up 15 years ago, everyone would be annoyed and bored in a way like "jeez, not these crusty clowns again, please!". But nowadays, when everything must be shot with shaken camera, every plot has to have at least 3 twists and main antagonist is pictured as internally disrupted guy who deserves our sympathies, it has just hit the audience with the force of 10 has-been bad-asses. And so did the Wolfenstein.

This game is pure linear corridor one with a couple of tiny options to finish the task - there are always 2 or 3 ways at the maximum how to reach the checkpoint, and so it is with the play-style: you can be Sam Fisher, the Terminator, or both. Nothing more, nothing less. But it is great and entertaining.

The plot is surprisingly very dark and serious. I don't know why I expected the plot will be ironic, over-the-top humorous story about stupid and impotent Nazis against Duke Nukem style bad-ass. I assume it could be because of Iron Sky movie from which Wolfenstein borrowed some ideas for sure. Speaking of which, this game is full of pop-cultural references to movies like Robocop, Inglorious Basterds etc. for example, but anyway, the plot is neat, the atmosphere is brilliant and the ending is satisfying. And did I mention that B.J. is a fricking bad-ass?

    Now the negatives.
Unfortunately, this game is not polished. It suffers from time-to-time crashes, micro-stuttering is almost everywhere (especially in interiors) and AI is poor and sometimes suffers from bad path-finding. There is also weird checkpoint system - sometimes, when you die, you are spawned behind the spot you died so you do not have to face those enemies who killed you before.
Crashes and micro-stuttering will be fixed in time for sure with patches and new gpu drivers, but I am quite sure AI and checkpoint system will stay as it is now, which is sad.

But hell, this game kicks ass anyway! I am looking forward for the sequel.
    Well done, Machine Games!

It's worthy siquel. It's first game in all the serie, which have very good scene. It's much better than Wolfenstein 2009. What's good it's an oldschool shooter with very good gameplay, that make me happy, like RtCW. The bad thing that is sometimes textures isn't show for a second.

This game had serious flaws, deal-breaking ones, that could have been avoided, but the developer just didn't care. The first Wolfie was a milestone in gaming, while this is only a sad epigon. Let's see why:
    1. There is no open save. Even the 1st one had. Now the world's changed, they only care for profit now, and that is mostly console gaming. Young dudes who have the time of the world playing 24/7. And the games nowadays are made for them. You scr.w up something then you wait to load, you wait for the ingame movie and then remake everything again. Clock is ticking and we can say we made a game that 20 hours long. Yeah, if you could save by yourself that would have been 5... I was so mad for constant waiting, that after a few tries against the last boss I uninstalled and watched the ending on youtube...
    2. There is no open world. Basically you run around in a tube, all the way. You have no choice, just sit in the rollercoster and it goes by itself. Wolf 1 was more open 20 years ago.
    3. The difficulty is changing. Sometimes you finish a level without dying, sometimes you try for 20 times parts that should have been lot easier. I played on normal. I play for fun. I don't thing that your penis size is is directly proportional to difficulty/time spent in front of a game. On the contrary. If a game is hard I have no problem, but it should be fair and constant. This isn't.
    4. Collisions are scr.wed up. Even a tiny vertex can stop the Giant. Not to mention the welding. All flawed: you cut a hole where you can go through with a tank, but it won't let you. You weld and weld and in 20 mins the whole grid or crate side suddenly just disappears.
There are some parts that entertaining, but that is not enough sell as a game. I wanted some old school fun fps, and I ended up with an annoying mess I grew to hate in the end. I read some other reviews and it is not a miracle that almost everyone who gave this title a 10 has one rating only.

It succeeds in maintaining an ironic disposition to its plot which lends itself to the whimsy that is inherent to Super Soldier gunning down a Nazi Goliath with a giant laser gun. In this way it blows Battlefield and Call of Duty out of the water. That being said it also succeeds, for the most part, in juxtaposing its ridiculousness with a competent emotional subplot.

TLDR: Self-aware game that knows its players just want to gibe Nazis with lazers. Its decent emotional subplot is the cherry on top, rounding off a great game without stealing the show.

Great game. Highly recommend it be accompanied by a six pack of delicious beer.

A great FPS. The 'feel' is spot-on if you take the couple of minutes to get your key bindings and mouse sensitivity just the way you like it. Bethesda has been involved so you can take the majority of things that make a good game and tick those boxes as a given. This game does exactly what it says on the tin. Run and Gun at its best.

I started to skipping cutscenes after a while cause the plot just doesn't deliver and drags on. Game like this don't need story. All that budget could go towards making the gameplay better. Campaign super boring and disjointed, although there are some exciting setpieces in it. But I would trade those for great level design. levels feel very small ( the amount of rooms you visit, not small as not free roaming like crysis), and I really don't like the linear approach. Seriously, walking from arena to arena is super boring. It was cool when they did that in Painkiller, and painkiller build its gameplay around that with hundreds of enemies, but now it's just redundant. Levels need some variety in its structure. I still don't understand why games have left maze levels behind. Those were like little worlds. No amount of shooting will replace that. And interiors need to be spacier so it is easier to know where is what, because they are so full of detail that it is hard to see anything. Ai is pretty crap. Not sure why they didn't use rage ai. That one was solid. Most of the time I'd be just camping in one spot, taking down enemies one by one. And if you try to run and gun, enemies will take you down pretty quickly. Slide movement is cool, although it is awkward to execute on the kb. But no shooting and reloading while running is really getting on my nerves these days. Also the loot - way too much of it. But that's because enemies accuracy is almost 100%, so you will always get shoot, and soo there's need to be a lot of pick ups. Again, missing that old school "visible projectiles" you could avoid. It felt like you actually gaining skill, and there was no need for so many pick ups. I can't imagine who's idea it was that you need to press a key for each item. Absolutely tedious in every game. Why not just automatically pick up everything you touch? That would make sense. There is a perk system also, but I'm completely uninterested in it at this point. Music is pretty much none existent. The most fun I had in this game was first level after the intro sequence, and the Easter egg: the original wolfenstein level.
I'm very sorry to say that because Riddick is one of the best games ever made, and I highly respect the devs, but I would give this game a miss, maybe until sale.

They took what really should have been a derp Nazi slaughter and made it truly compelling. Some people have been complaining about the braindead enemy AI but it plays like an homage to all the old school 90s FPS games. I friggin loved the 90s FPS games. The kids may not get it, but for old farts like me Wolfenstein is pure gold.

Then there's the little things. Every time I expect some dreadful quicktime event sequence, there isn't one. If I botch a stealth kill, it doesn't cause every enemy for miles to come running. One minute I can be sneaky and quiet with throwing knives and silencers, and moments later i'm sprinting around liquefying my surroundings with dual-wield automatic shotguns.

The bottom line: it's worth your time.

Some are mentioning bugs and crashes and other headaches trying to get the game to run. Well, I personally experienced none of this. I'm running a powerful but slightly dated rig: Core i7 3770K, 16GB RAM, 2GB GTX680. Smooth as butter, and no crashes.

After 30 hours of playtime and 100% of achievements completed on 'Uber' difficulty, I feel I am ready to rate Wolfenstein: The New Order. Between the well-crafted levels and deep character driven story-telling, this game is easily one of the best modern shooters. The Nazi regalia art deco style thrived off creative and believable level design. That is to say, the graphics are stunning and tuned to the story as much as old great titles a Half-life or Golden Eye were. There is such fine detail that the weapon models are different for the era and location.

The characters brought the game to life with beautiful true to the moment animations. The animations were cinematic throughout the game. The tempo and pacing of the voice acting over the animations were fluid and felt real. The outlandish game had a believable band of characters that truly came to life beyond previous standards.

The mechanics offers fairly tight shooting while the gameplay offers various styles of play; Stealth, Run-and-Gun, Explosives. You could go cover hopping while dual wielding rocket launchers or silently takedown enemies with special knife attacks or equipping a silenced pistol to avoid alarms. However, you can mortally wound a foe by throw a knife into his foot.

The AI was ok. The soldier enemies used cover well and the heavily armored foes close the gap and cause a lot of trouble for your health bar. I did encounter enemies that tried to throw grenades through pillars killing themselves and anyone nearby.

Often considered related to AI is the difficulty options. There are five to choose from harkening back to the original Wolfenstein in theme. I only played the 'Uber' difficulty so, I don't know how much the experience differs. The maximum difficulty felt like less of a challenge and more of it took a lot of bullets to kill everything other than yourself making shotguns the bane of your existence.

All in all, I know I raved about the story-telling being amazing, and I mean it. On my first play through I felt like I was watching a two-hour film you would gladly pay $20 to see. Instead, I got a 15 hour experience for $60 dollars, that I could watch again with different mechanics, levels, and characters.

I highly recommend this game. Fair warning, this game is rated 17 plus. Contains a lot of violence and gore. Also, has some, believe it or not, tasteful sex scenes.

Ok, I apologize for that, but i can't believe they did it... Mega-textures, ID Tech 5 engine, and 43 GB of data. Thats supposed to make this game beautiful and inmersive right? Well, it never worked with RAGE, why would it work with WTNO? You start the game and the first thing you notice, is that the bethesda logo screen lags beyond belief... Its not a game rendered cutscene... Its just the logo. Then into the game the rest of cutscenes lag and eventually freeze for several seconds, until the game starts and BAM!! 1 FPS!! REALLY? My specs are Above the recommended!! So I try to change the weird options abiavle in the menu, which I cant tell what they do or the impact they have since they're completely new (theres no trace of AA nor SSAO, nor any of those) So I search in the steam forums only to find that some guy named Voksi (god bless his soul) has found and implemented a fix (Darksouls anyone?) but the developers are deleting it from everywhere, guess that having your game broken at launch to be fixed singlehandedly by one person is bad image for them. So I manage to find the fix and it works fantastic!!, now I get from 30 to 50 fps, so I can see what it looks like in motion, but... I can see something weird... TEXTURE POP IN!!! AGAIN!!! You turn your head and the world starts loading in front of you... All of that for the sake of an engine that didnt work years ago with RAGE, which flopped so hard because of its problems, only to be reproduced again in 2014 in the new Wolfenstein title!! And the Mega-Texures? MY GOD!! If you could see how bad it looks... It looks WORSE than RAGE!! How that even possible? The textures may be unique but they're so low-res and have so much pop in its impossible to play the game!!, ITS COMPLETELY UNFINISHED!! And the best part? I still got an average of 37 fps, that reaches 50 when the game feels like to, so its not comfortable to play AT ALL. So I looked again in the options menu, and I found my settings were on Medium, so I just lowered them to see if that fixed it aaaand... Nothing changed. So I cranked them up to maximum aaand: Same framerate! Sooo I can run the options... But I cannot run the engine?? And that made me realize that even with the game on MAXIMUM, It would look like a 2008 game! I even thought of forci texture filtering and AA through the nVidia control panel, but then I remembered: the framerate is unplayable as it is, and even if it manages to look beautiful, the pop in and the framerate would ruin the experience. I dont mind games having low graphics but I do mind when they're broken! If he original Wolfenstein had suffered from broken textures and unconsistent fluidity I would had been pissed off even then!!
I cant believe I paid 40 bucks for this, I paid those because it was published by bethesda, andthe game looked awesome in the trailers, guess this is the last time I risk it for a company's publishing brand, because Bethesda was the only publisher I trusted, even after RAGE flop, which I have to say It was fixed to a certain degree by some fixes right after release (by the community mostly). I gave you one more chance and you disappointed me YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!!! No seriously, check the steam forums on wolfenstein page and you'll see hundreds of post complaining, like a 90% complains- 5% lenguages that I cant read posts, and 5% "This games good" posts.

Those who like more realistic combat war games should look elsewhere.

For instance: The amount of bullets needed to kill an "Uebersoldat" is absolutely unbelievable and does not make sense at all - less would be more. Best bit is the lame response of most of the common enemy soldiers during a knife fight. The game has a huge potential only by textures, design and characters, unfortunately the complete atmosphere will be killed by repeating shout-outs, a pointless hitpoint system and really stupid enemies. Fast food for for experienced first person action heroes. Graphics a clean 10, the rest is max. 4-5 which makes in total a 6-7. Expand

Mouse issues have been fixed and input is now accurate and responsive. You get to hop in BJ Blaskowitz's shoes once again and shamelessly reduce Nazi's to bloody smudges.

The So-So: Gameplay is somewhat the +forward barebones affair one might imagine in a Wolfenstein game. The story has some interesting bits early on with Deathshead, but sorta meanders a bit. You kinda forget this is history re-imagined. The environment simply isn't that strange, nor the technology that anachronistic in the fiction of other Wolfenstein games (Lots of far future quasi-magical/supra-technological stuff exists in that universe), let alone 14 years after the intro of the game ('44 I believe) which already featured panzerhounds and giant walking tripods with mounted Tesla coils...but BJ finds a chainsaw 14 years later somewhat alien. So, I see what they were trying to do there, but it just kinda fails to be interesting or new, nor do I believe this 'fish out of water' backstory for BJ. The narrative is chopped up into abbreviated 'quest/dungeon' bits with a bit of excessive, but well executed cut-scenes hiding the load times. I think this is both a failing in the story itself and perhaps a flaw in the idtech5 engine as it so clearly harkens back to RAGE. The illusion of the 'hub world' is pretty transparent and gets a little tedious but I believe is a reference to the previous Wolfenstein reboot.. It's not really needed, but I suppose it breaks up the action and reading the newspaper clippings provides some texture to the world. The hub world is one of the nicer looking environments. The Bad: Linear romp. Literally +forward with pretty basic arenas, kinda clunkily choreographed (though amazing looking) set-pieces, and tons of cut scenes. As we have had two stabs at idtech5/megatexture and they have both turned out similarly, I think I can conclude the problem. It's just impossible to playtest and create/modify interesting environments without demanding the art team really go back to square one. The creation of the mega-texture and the detail is reliant upon a known structure and is apparently time-consuming. The design team can't be playing around with the actual structure too much without setting back the art team by orders of magnitude. Mega-texture also sucks, but it's problems can be alleviated by sequestering narrative into smaller portions/areas/mega-textures (essentially levels) and attempting to hide the loading of levels with cinematics. It comes off as an obvious band-aid though. The laser cutter is mildly annoying too. The devs really want the player to enjoy this tool, but it's just a frustrating distraction. I think it was more exciting for the devs to be able to dynamically manipulate the idtech5 environment (I can get how this feat must have been exciting for the devs), but it isn't really interesting from a gameplay perspective.

Overall: May sound terrible, but it's actually fun and satisfying in it's simplicity...as a Wolfenstein game should be. The narrative meanders a bit early on, but gets back into the swing of things. I dunno that it's worth the 60 bucks as there really isn't anything to return to once the campaign is over (there IS a faux reason intended to provide the illusion of the value of a second run), but it will surely drop a little to a more appropriate price in a couple months and it's a must play.

Pros: The game was great. There was many elements to the game that I've never seen in an FPS before. A great story leading up to a great ending.

Cons: It takes 4 hours to install.

The ending of the game is rushed.. they probably don't realize it but a major baddy survives completely.

I would ASSUME they are planning a sequel, and I hope they make one, but the game certainly doesn't really come to a very conclusive end. The final boss is pretty sick though, provided a decent challenge etc.

I'm going to assume mecha Hitler will be for the next game.

Multiplayer would have been awesome too.

I hope they take this game, add multiplayer, add coop, and just make a badass sequel out of it.
This is the kind of game where the sequel, if they put some decent work into it, will just blow everyone away.

It's a fun game, lays some good groundwork for a series, but the **** story takes up too much of the game. I really did not give a **** about any of the characters, there's a secret society bit that just trails off at the end that could have had potential, but they just kill it pretty quickly.

A better ending was needed tbh, considering I'm pretty sure a sequel definitely won't be a sure fire thing.

    Graphics:

Graphics are a mixed bag. It runs on ID Tech 5 engine which uses MegaTexture technology and it is not surprising that the textures are low res tho I did expected them to be slightly better.
But if you leave low res textures aside there were moments where graphics looked very realistic and absolutely beautiful but there were also moments where graphics looked very cheap and hideous.
Game has some obvious performance problems on my PC which has Intel i5 3570k and AMD 6950. But they seem to be related to bad optimization and bad drivers rather than my PC being too weak.

    Story:

I was really happy from the beginning to around the middle point as the story was interesting and kept evolving in an interesting way. But around the middle of the story it just got out of hands and it became over-exaggerated BS with some ancient jewish super technology and nazi base on the moon that has super futuristic design and everyone have lazer guns. Near the end it got better again but the middle part really ruined the story for me.
Also game ended very promptly and left a lot of questions in the air. Including the Blackowiczes faith. This makes me believe that there is some big DLC or even a sequel coming.

Firstly the Negative - Graphics - Epic screen tearing and weird things happening to my screen. even on low graphics + low resolution it was still happening... After playing around with the settings, I found putting into window mode fixed that. So I happily play MAX settings setting with Windowed (full screen) and it runs perfectly now. There's also general minor things like no auto pickup, the occasional stupid enemy, basically a lack of extra polish over the game.

The Positive - Straight up single player shooter.... I think Wolfenstein strikes a chord with the hearts of more old school shooter fans, its not a sugar coated glorified call of duty title, that depends on its multiplayer community. It's a epic, deep, rich, lengthy, story-driven, non linear, thrill ride in a clever alternative history full of easter eggs and great characters. This is the best single player shooter I've played since Bioshock Infinite or Deus EX: HR and falls in line with the likes of Metro Last light for dark and gritty... and probably will be the best shooter till Doom... with the way the FPS market is saturated by MP focused shooters. Its nice to be able to get lost in a good story.

Take Wolfenstein for what it is, its own outstanding homage to the Daddy of shooters...to single player shooters of the blast-them-up style... and not a uber realistic camp in cover fest

It needs some refinement, but its a great game.

This is the correct way to combine modern shooters with classic ones. Keeping the health/armor system while limiting the regenerating health aspect, allowing you to hold on to all weapons at once and dual-wield them at that, somewhat linear level design but different ways to approach each scenario making it a nice addition. The game also gives you a sort of bond with each character. Despite only meeting the characters for a short amount of time, it seems like you've known them for years. The graphics are very nice, even on low they are still good. Sometimes framerate can drop at times, and if you don't have the right PC, the game may not even run. I'm sure they will eventually fix these issues because every game has issues on release. I have not completed the campaign yet, but as far in as I am, I'm already attached mentally and physically to this game. I was expecting a mediocre, bland Wolfenstein game but I was proven extremely wrong because this game is incredibly good. For everything, I give this game 10/10! This game is about having fun in a solid combat system, combined with good characters and a sturdy storyline. The gunplay is amazing, I have played this on Uber mode, i've collected all the items and finished the second storyline and still keep coming back for more, simply because it is fun to play (the same feeling I had playing Painkiller years ago). The game isn't amazing graphics wise but it is good enough and there has been issues for some users who I feel terrible for and hope they release a patch for them soon. Machine Games should be proud of themselves, it would be so easy in this day and age to throw on a half-a$$ed multiplayer just for the sake of it but they haven't. They stood true to their original goals of creating a solid singleplayer experience with a good mix between old school/modern shooter features and have pulled it off well. I very rarely pre-order games, maybe 1 a year if that but I did for this game and I wasn't let down. I hope for the ET fans out there the success of this game leads to a multiplayer standalone or spin off and everyone gets what they want. Overall this game is probably a 8-9 out of 10 but i'm going to give it a 10 simply due to the fact I think this is a step in the right direction for the future of the FPS genre and I need to reward a company who goes against the grain with the right motivation at heart. The only qualm I have with this game is that I have started the game on uber difficulty and I am on like chapter 4 and the first couple chapters were extremely easy but still fun, but then it got somewhat more challenging. Everyting looks fine at a distance, but when you get close, the graphics are very bad for a game that is made to run on ps4 and next gen. The texure quality is very bad, the anti aliasing sucks it is painfull to watch. Also, there is no option for triple monitor settings.

However, I was not prepared for New Order to be one of the very best shooters I ever played.

The storyline, for video game standards, is nothing short of spectacular - With great pacing, deep, well written characters, good construction, mature themes, astonishing at times attention to detail, excellent voice-acting; New Order can really engage the player emotionaly, something that very few games achieve, and is probably one of the very first shooters that based its storyline primarly on character developement rather than an overly complex plot. It's like watching a good movie or reading a well-written sci-fi novel.

Altough be warned the game sometimes is one the border of good taste. It's sort of a deconstruction of camp - It takes all the cliche wacky nazis tropes and plays them absolutely seriously. What results can be interpreted as a slap in the face of all the chessy nazisploitation media like Iron Sky, Inglorious Basterds or even the previous Wolfenstein games (no hate here - I love all of the mentioned, but trivialising nazism is a fault prevelant in all of them). With its dark, opressive atmosphere, Wolfenstein is one of the heaviest and most depressing games I played - Be prepared for that, in case you are counting for silly Hitler on a jetpack.

Other than the story, Wolfenstein offers very solid gameplay organicaly connected with stealth elements, as sneaking, slow, tactical shooting and dual-wielding rampages all have their place and time in the gameplay. The guns feel great, sound great, the player movement is excellent (brilliant leaning mechanic), enemy AI is agressive and actively tries to kill - It makes for one hell of core gameplay. The levels are large (game took me almost 15 hours to complete), open for exploration and varied, the visuals, while technicaly only decent, are extremely well done aestheticaly and very detailed. Sound design is impressive, and the music is one of the best I've heard in shooters. In a world filled with orchestras and huge electronics, you need huge balls to base your game's mood on calm and beutiful melodies played on a accoustic guitar.

The game's not without it's flaws, however. I found one or two levels to be slightly below the game's average in terms of gameplay and suspense. Some transitions between cutscenes and gameplay are less fluent than they could be, and once or twice the change of story location occurs a bit too rapidly. There are some minor technical issues, and the pop-in of objects at the edge of the screen is really something that shouldn't be in the game. Dual-wielding can be problematic as the game sometimes can't divide ammo between weapons. Lastly, I wish there would have been more guns in the game. The ones that are in all have their place and role and you are encouraged to switch between them depending on situation rather than stick to your favourite one, but given the setting one would hope to find one or two guns crazy not only in their design, but in function as well.

In conclusion, technicaly, the game deserves a strong 8. However, due to the amazing storyline, I raise the score by two bars. This is the direction I would love shooters to take, and I want to see more games as engaging and ambitious as this one. Thus, a 10/10.

One of the things that might get overlooked is the soundtrack, which is just damn amazing. The sound design as a whole is extremely impressive.

The game does feel a bit raw as a port however. I think the PC version was a bit rushed, but I'm sure the game will be patched as things go on. There are technical complaints, but I'm clueless on where they're emerging from because I've been running the game without issue on a somewhat mediocre machine.

4h in and it's fantastic, it would've been a 10 but for the installation: 1.5h to install from optical media and then a huge 10 GB day 1 patch, which my router didn't like, so 4h to install in total. 1080p running on "High" settings on an i7-920, GTX 470 SLI (which is fairly near minimum spec) and no problems with low frame rates or pop-in at all, it works great, story is great, gameplay4h in and it's fantastic, it would've been a 10 but for the installation: 1.5h to install from optical media and then a huge 10 GB day 1 patch, which my router didn't like, so 4h to install in total. 1080p running on "High" settings on an i7-920, GTX 470 SLI (which is fairly near minimum spec) and no problems with low frame rates or pop-in at all, it works great, story is great, gameplay too. Could have been great if fun, but the difficulty level is wonky: sometimes you have to take it down to survive other times you've left with plenty of ammo/health. Was this game balanced? In any way?
Other thing deal-breaker for me: EVEN THE 1ST WOLFENSTEIN HAD SAVE/LOAD BACK IN 1992... Why do developers always have to think on the level of the console-gamer? It's a shame.

Playing this game is like going back to the single player classics from the nineties but with the graphics of today. I'm so glad they put all the effort on the single player story. Some people will tell that is not worth paying 60 for a 15 hours-long story, I tell them that I prefer that, to play the same maps over and over again as they do in their MP games.

Many gameplay elements are almost a 1:1 copy from F.E.A.R. 3 (mainly the mech ride.) The enemies are not stylish in a Nazi way, more like the same regularly armored steel soldier we've seen in post-apocalyptic games. The levels are painfully small and offer no exploration. The pace is like a snail, only the snail is dead and being dragged by a string. Not worth a $25 price never mind a $60 one. Also warning for German, Swiss and Austrian users, your governments have blocked the game in your region because of the use of Swastikas. Expand

Great remake of Wolfenstein. Great mechanics, story, guns, boss fights. You will be happy you got this! Only reason I didn't give it a 10 is there are a few shadow bugs here and there and AI but I didn't notice it that often

No, it's not perfect. Yes, it's decent. Don't expect a real reboot or remake: it has some 'modern' input to please the casual gamer (waypointmarkers, 'press X to Y' pop-ups, replenished health, glowing items). On top: the checkpoints can be annoying at higher difficultysettings. Levels are not totally lineair, so that's good. Really: it's an 'ok' game.

I don't understand the low review scores from some users, because the game has great shooter mechanics, a real treat for run and gun players. You can also stealth through many parts, taking out the damn commanders before the call for backup. The story is appreciably better than many games, quickly establishing it's own identity. Great game, totally returns to old school style shooters. This game must be played in 'I Am Death Incarnate' at least. Graphics are a bit disappointing, but once you are merged on the history and game play, it doesn't matters anymore. The huge size of the download, almost reminds me, how I felt, when I bought physical games and the long wait from the store to the house.

This game is waaay better than I expected. I was expecting an on-rails generic shooter. What I got was a semi-open, charming, eerie, exciting shooter with stealth elements. Not bad! And the story is good! This is one of the few game where I am actually looking forward to hearing more of the story through the cutscenes.

I am very happy I decided to buy this game. Certainly lives up to it's name.

I love the art. The gameplay is solid mix of old school from DOOM and Q universe, this is the best modern game that brought solid old school gameplay to 2014.

i gave it 9 out 10 because i expected better texture with 40+ GB of size.

4 hours to download, install, and patch on a 50mbps FIOS Quantum connection and 12 hours to finish the game on "Death Incarnate" difficulty. Despite the claims about the improvements offered by MegaTexture, they don't justify the file size when, on the highest settings, they still don't look all that great. at 1080p. Maybe 4k resolutions will get a benefit but that's debatable. Not a game I'd recommend at the $60 price point and if you have slower internet or download caps, don't even bother (even the retail disk version requires a 10+GB day 1 patch).

Although not bringing masses to the fps market, Wolfenstein is propped up by successful writing, plot and graphics. The characters are relatable and Wolfenstein is an overall very good game.

A very poor offering indeed. The texture quality is very poor, even on the highest settings. The game requires you to perform finger gymnastics to get past certain scenes which is awkward. The game feels laggy with the mouse, no matter what settings I use. Finally, I had to manually set SLI. It seems the game prefers non-SLI? WTF? ... not impressed at all.

This is a refreshingly classic shooter. The start isn't promising, and it takes a while to get into its stride, but it's worth the effort. The gunplay is great, and the visuals are very nice. Popping nazi heads whilst dual wielding automatic shotguns is [perhaps disturbingly] good fun. There's also lots of blood and missing limbs. If one likes that sort of thing.

The only negative worth mentioning is that the AI can often seem a bit dumb, but you'll likely not care. It doesn't spoil the game. The New Order is a big, brash, bold shooter that seeks to thrill, and succeeds. Yet it's also pinned together with some solid voice acting and a very foreboding atmosphere.

Tons of stuff to like, and not very much to dislike. Any fan of classic-style shooters will find much to love.

Wolfenstein is back! It is really amazing the creators of Wolfenstein can come with this and make alternative history. The single player campaign is awesome and a good story. The only problem I have with the game is that it looks like Activision made it and It looks too much CoD style. Beteshda did a good job on making a new unique Wolfenstein game.

I found the game fun and challenging with much homage to the original games. Fast guns blazing hilarious action or stealth knife kills you get to do it all. Dual wield mayhem is a rush. It's a mature themed game to be sure the Nazi's are not holds barred evil and portrayed very true to life and creed. My only gripe was having no auto pickup on guns armor and ammo.

The only thing in the new Wolfenstein that turned out really well is music. Shooting is decent and some weapons give proper sense of power, but developers failed to build an interesting game on these foundations. It has some good moments but none of them lasts long enough to be satisfying. Plus the writing is terrible and the way the game constantly forces all that ‘war is evil!’ preaching and Blazkowicz’s moral dilemmas down your throat is ridiculous. I actually couldn’t decide whether the game is being serious or not. [07/2014, p.56]
