Playing it after six years I found it rather lackluster. Maybe it's because of all the hype surrounding the franchise. Nevertheless, it offered enough action and subtle humour to keep me going.

I have only good memories of this game but maybe it would change slightly if I played it today. But as far as I remember it has amazing combat, stealth is sometimes questionable but not bad and I love the story. Amazing wolfenstein game 8.5/10.

What a great idea it was! The alternative story of the trifting Nazis is immediately associated with Dick's books. Let's add an alternative '60s soundtrack and the possibility of sneaking around opponents! Even if someone does not like shoters but likes games like Dishonored - I think he will find himself here too! I will definitely use the option of passing the game in the second variant.

There are some areas where items don't spawn and you have to restart the level multiple times.

Save system isn't great. It can make you do tedious parts over and over because it saved at the wrong part and can't save again.

+ The game presents its story quite well. You play most of the time in the 1960's after Nazis won WW2 in 1946. I really liked the dire atmosphere.
+ Level design is superb with lots of diversity (even underwater, outer space). I didn't expect that moon level... fantastic.
+ Enemy AI is smart, shoots from cover, can be flanked, reacts realistically when the player is sneaking.
+ In many situations you have the option to sneak and kill silently use knives/throwing knives or suppressed handguns and avoid having to deal with large groups of enemies.
+ Firing your guns feels and sounds good.
+ Choosing the right weapon for certain enemies becomes essential in mid and end-game.
+ The game is quite challenging at the two highest difficulty settings.
    + No quick-time events

Much as Wolfenstein 3D set the stage for DOOM, Wolfenstein: The New Order set the stage for… DOOM (the 2016 version).

This isn’t a bad thing… but it also means that if you play DOOM before you play this game, this game will seem inferior by comparison in many ways.

You play as William Blazkowicz, a brick of a soldier, sent out to kill some Nazis. After suffering some head trauma, you awake in a world where the Nazis have won, and you, along with a small number of resistance fighters (but really, just you) must win the world back from the Nazis.

The game is broken up into 16 stages of various lengths. Some of these stages (particularly the first one) are pretty long, while others are extremely short, taking less than ten minutes to complete if you don’t bother exploring much. The stages theoretically take place in a variety of locations (though one location actually repeats itself four times, and three of the stages involve very little combat at all – though all of these are extremely short stages), from a Nazi science compound/castle to a concentration camp to… another Nazi science compound, actually, but this time ON THE MOON.

The game is full of Nazi iconography, due to the Nazis having conquered the world, and takes on a generally dark and somber tone – the Nazis have taken over the world and are horrible people. So the solution is to dual wield assault rifles and take them all down.

If this sounds a little bit jarring, it is because it is; the game is at times at odds with itself. You spend a lot of time sneaking around, and indeed, are rewarded for being stealthy (getting stealth kills on commanders not only stops them from spawning infinite reinforcements, but also reveals secrets on the map)… and yet, when you fight, you can dual wield pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, and even sniper rifles. The game is full of ridiculous elements, like Nazi robots, and a base ON THE MOON, and yet the game tries to take itself seriously, with horrible things going on all the time, and the plot as a whole being very somber.

The result is a great deal of tonal dissonance. DOOM solved this problem by making you a ridiculous killing machine who doesn’t care about the plot IN CHARACTER. Wolfenstein… doesn’t solve this problem at all, which sort of undermines itself.

And this is hardly the only way in which it does so.

The game is full of collectibles, and you also unlock “perks” by accomplishing specific tasks in game, such as killing 80 nazis with assault rifles from cover, or killing 20 enemies stealthily with throwing knives, or blowing up multiple enemies at once with a grenade. Some of these are pretty easily done, but others require more doing, and some of the collectibles and all of the perks give you benefits for doing them – which creates a problem.

The thing is, the game really wants you to keep on moving. But the collectibles encourage you to spend a bunch of time searching around, while the perks often encourage somewhat unnatural behavior to unlock them. Both of these mess up the gameplay flow of the game.

The worst of it is, this is probably deliberate; while the game has 16 stages, as previously noted, a number of them are very short. As a result, beating all of the stages can be done within 18 hours or so even if you do look for collectibles… but the game is probably half that long if you just go through without really exploring. The thing is, the exploration in most of the levels doesn’t really give you a whole lot of bang for your buck, and as noted, the tonal dissonance of the darkness of the story and its more ridiculous elements undermines your ability to take the story seriously. It is a grimdark world, and like most grimdark worlds, it verges on being a parody of itself, and it isn’t really clear if it knows how ridiculous it is being.

I may sound down on it, but honestly, there were a number of moments in the game where I had fun. The thing is, the game kept feeling like it was pushing back on its own fun, and it didn’t feel like it quite made up its mind.

In the end, Wolfenstein is a power fantasy that periodically disempowers its protagonist, only for him to overcome it and start murdering Nazis again. It’s fun killing Nazis, but nothing here is as much fun as killing the demons in DOOM.

My personal advice? This is an okay game, and if you haven’t played DOOM yet, you’ll probably find it decent.

But honestly, I’d just recommend playing DOOM instead. You’ll probably have more fun with it, and it knows what it wants to be.

There are still some aspects that weren't that much satisfying, like the on-screen wheel to select weapons (I've seen myself dying too many times while trying to land on the weapon I wanted...) and the boss fights are not really the highest points of the whole experience.

Without spoiling the story, you play as us special forces operative captain blazkowicz, who’s been out of it for 14 years to learn its 1960 and the us lost
And you set out to rescue your squad and of course take down some Nazis…
The New Order is probably one of the most intriguing first person shooters I’ve played through…
not only thanks to the story of living through alternate history.. But because of how your characters story is told, there’s revenge, love, everything… your journey feels personal instead of generic...
You’re not some forgettable throwaway soldier like you get in most every other first person shooter campaign
And because of this this campaign immerses you deep inside of its world…
This isn’t your typical run and gun campaign..
There’s tons of variety here, missions will have you scaling buildings for targets... going in with stealth, infiltration, and undercover missions…
You never know what the game is going to throw at you keeping the campaign feeling fresh…
There are a variety of weapons and enemies to deal with, and the game mixes things up with a laser gun you get to cut through chain and metal in the game, giving you alternate routes inside of rooms and again stopping this game from just feeling constantly run and gun… you’re not forced to shoot here most of the time, as you can just go in missions with stealth taking out everyone from behind…
but if you do choose to shoot there are plenty of weapon choices and the ability to dual wield guns..
Enemies drop plenty of ammo... but eventually your laser gun is upgraded and able to shoot with unlimited ammo, though it has to be recharged so you’re not waiting for it to recharge on its own at a painfully slow rate after every couple of shots…
Combat can feel challenging if you’re not the stealthy type... especially thanks to the scouts that will call for back up if you don’t take them out before you start shooting...
You do have health that will regenerate slightly... but there are health packs and armor around which seem in abundance at the beginning... but towards the end you’ll be begging for them...
Mission structure all for the most part feels the same.. You’re given a map which rarely helps... I found myself just stumbling around the map until I found the item I was supposed to interact with...
Not the greatest natural progression... but I only felt lost a few times throughout my journey to the end..
I was having a lot of fun with this game thanks to its story and level design... however for me the 2nd half of this game really starts to feel a bit generic and I was ready for this game to be over hours before the final showdown…
While I do feel the final stretch of the new order is a drag, load times are painfully slow, and the occasional lock picking in this game is the worst and most annoying lock picking in video game history
The New Order offers a really unique experience worth picking up and seeing out through to its end

Wolfenstein the New Order is a mixed bag. On the plus side it offers up great visuals, a novel take on an alternate 1960's ruled by a global Nazi Empire and lots and lots of shooting. A great array of weapons are on offer and its nice how there is a modest evolution in weapon design to reflect the transition from the 1940's to 60's.

On the down side. The first and biggest criticism is buggy game design. This title does not work well on all hardware including machines that do meet its minimum specification. Worse still there is a lack of patches to fix these errors. I felt too usability could have been a lot better. Levels are clumsy as is the main character BJ who moves like a bus with a flat tyre. This would be forgivable were it not for the fact that some levels require a fair bit of agility. Falling off things, sometimes to your death for no good reason is a common and frustrating occurrence. Lastly I felt the tone of the game and violence is at times gratuitous and over stated. BJ has a maniacal hatred of all Nazi's in a world where everyone is obliged to live under a Nazi regime. Pretty obvious lack of logic in operation here combined with sometimes cruel violence and not just from the wicked Nazi's.

All in all a mixed title. I played this game but it by no means had me hooked and at times it can be tiresome for the reasons outlined.

This is a first person shooter that simply doesn't give a **** about appealing to a certain demographic, it's just a very well made game. It plays well, tells a story well, has a great soundtrack to back it up, and addicting fast paced gunplay that feels great with weapons that have plenty of punch and sound effects that bust out of my headphones just as hard I bust a nut over how great this game is.

So nazi's took over the world after winning World War 2, and you wake up from a coma in a dystopian nazi ruled world and have to find the resistance to battle the nazi scum. Now, this game doesn't give a **** about hurting your feefees or pushing an agenda, because there are swaztikas everywhere in this **** almost to the point where it feels like they're openly flaunting Nazi Germany's flag in the face of all those crybaby SJW whiners like "look at this does this make you mad? you hairy little **** **** off we're trying to make a game here" anyway it isn't the BEST story ever but it certain is effective at giving the player a reason to keep playing and something to fight for

The gameplay: where do I begin? It's very reminiscient of shooters from the days of old where you find powerups and the levels are designed in a way to be very mazelike yet still retain a very industrialized, urban look. The guns all have their own strengths and weaknesses but they all get used at some point. There are also some stealth elements but it doesn't feel forced at all. you can always go in guns blazing if you want to, or stealth kill some guys before you get discovered.

The Nazis look great, very cool looking armor and designs. the game also plays on a fear of nazis too by making scary scenes involving them and they come across as genuinely intimidating at times. Neo nazis with robotic suits and weapons sounds very scary indeed

the soundtrack is incredible. it uses a lot of industrial machine sounds for it and it's generally a very memorable experience overall. sometimes I want to listen to the music outside of the game its that good

it's not perfect though (no game is) but what could have been better is there are some sudden difficulty spikes out of nowhere and the enemies are almost too accurate when you round corners instead of leaning out from behind them. I dont want to have to lean out of corners to shoot all the time, but if you just walk around the corner like its doom or something then you get pegged way too quickly.

also the ending is kinda ****e but you know there's another wolfenstein coming out so it's not that bad. for some reason video games tend to have the absolute bat****tiest worst endings ever, nasty habit that is.

Other than that, its an excellent game with top quality visuals, music, gameplay, and story that all put together makes for an awesome, nazi-blasting time. best shooter I've seen in years (apart from new doom)

The Nazis looks really tough and advanced but they fail at every turn to show any mental effort to fight back against the protagonists. They look evil, but they are always outsmarted, always defeated and always left behind the dust. To me, it is inconceivable that they won WWII but be this dummb afterwards, as the game really did build them up to be fearsome and intelligent enemies at the start. I don't like games that make the antagonists immensely stupid (but technologically advanced which is kind of ironic) just so the protagonists can very easily win. The "Nightmare" sections of the game give a solid throwback to the earlier games, which is just such so appreciated. Eitherway, Wolfenstein the New Order gets it right with many aspects and I recommend it. Just turn your brain off while playing it and you will have a great time. Expand

    Plusy:
    + przyjemność płynąca z rozgrywki
    + projekt niektórych etapów
    + postacie i dialogi
+ dwie bronie na raz = rozpierducha
+ Ania Oliwa i inne polskie nawiązania
+ prawie 10 godzin kampanii do przejścia

    Minusy:
    – słaba optymalizacja i średnia grafika
    – spłycenie niektórych elementów fabuły
    – mocno ograniczone pole działania i etapy…
    – na które da się jednak przymknąć oko ;)

A modern tactical shooter will ask of you to mow down countless enemy soldiers and then interact with a mcguffin at the end. Wolfenstein offers up multiple enemy types that need to be dealt with in more specific ways. What's more, it isn't afraid to slow down, offering interactive scripted scenes where you don't even have a weapon, as well as occasional environmental challenges.

It also rewards exploration, rather than punishing it, like the shooters of years past. You can use what skills you've learned, such as the welding tool. to find items stashed behind fences or in metal crates.

The weapons are all satisfying to use and the combat is intense and challenging, especially on higher difficulty settings.

I absolutely recommend this to everyone who is sick to the back teeth of the plague of Call of Duty/Battlefield games. If not, maybe you should just try playing it as something that features this thing we had in the 90s called 'actual fun.'

Simply put, it's a run and gun kinda of game for me that's got me yelling '***k you' every time i blow an NPC to shreds. A definite must if you're looking to enjoy a quick 10-15 hour FPS game (10-15 hours on max difficulty, while looking for collectibles) at no more than $20.

The combat is just average, yes you can dual wield almost everything, but that also means that you will burn ammunition much faster, and since the game is very stingy at giving ammunition and the enemies are the bullet sponge type, coupled with the fact that you will need to grab every single piece of ammunition from the ground (like a few rounds at a time), it just ruined the shooting part of the game for me.
The game is also riddled with performance issues, like really bad Fps fluctuations, and screen tearing, and it’s also locked at 60 FPS, but good luck at even getting to 30 fps with an AMD card without the Voksi fix. And even with it, don’t expect to play at the highest setting if you want to keep a 60 Fps lock (Spoilers! ............... You won’t).

P.S: And Bethesda, go f*** you self’s, for not fixing the PC port for Amd users.

Wolfenstein has been reborn. The reincarnation took Studio MachineGames, which is made up of people from Starbreeze studios, who did a great action scene in which a character has always been disclosed, the player could feel him, and always had a good story. Wolfenstein: The New Order, they have not changed yourself! They made an idol William Blaskowitz character! And it's not just the character, and personality, which even empathize. He as well voiced; the actor dubbing almost always speaks in a whisper, what makes the character closer to the player. Besides the main character we'll be a resistance headquarters, which is filled with characters. At first they seem to be just furniture to fill the space, but eventually all the characters will be revealed and you to bind him. The headquarters of the resistance will be your home to which you'll return after the task. You'll chat with your companions, it is better to know and get around the headquarters, which from time to time will change. If you sleep on the bed, even you can play a level from the original Wolfenstein is a great game (which in the game is not enough). Also I can not mention great music! The music in the game is simply gorgeous and gives the picture and gameplay richness.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is not a game in the open world, but the developers create the feeling that you are not just at the locations of the next mission, and at a certain part of the world. World, which was seized by the Nazis. Writers have written an alternative history and was even recorded alternate covers of famous bands! Notes interesting to read, and don't pass it by! They are immersed in the alternate world, and you realize that this is a deep game, it's a real thought out story with his world.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a shooter. Without a great shuternoy mechanics to play wouldn't be interesting even with a good plot. Developers here do not disappoint! Shoot fun! Run around and shoot Nazis with two hands! Buzz! Health itself is not restored, so you have to look for kits (you can even gain health above 100%, but it will very quickly drop to 100). Besides health, we also do replenish armor - just like in the good old days. The game also has stealth and a high level of complexity will have to resort to it often. But in this game it's best to set a medium level of complexity and fun to shoot Nazis.

I strongly recommend Wolfenstein: The New Order! Few people makes the shooter a real adventure with a memorable story and characters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. love the gameplay and the story of the game very much and only for those two things I would advice you to buy this game however i do have some negatives I want to discuss.

    - first of all the performance is sub par. on a setup that can handle alien Isolation, metal gear solid v and many more games on 100+ fps and at places in WTNO i drop to 33 is rediculous! you can unlock the fps if you put in a command but that **** up all the in game cutscenes and voice over so not really recommended.
    - secondly the story is way to short for the price they ask for it. I clocked in at 10 hours on normal difficulty looking at every little details in the game. (granted there is a alternative timeline you can choose but that only changes like 5% of the game...... (not worth it at full price)
    - and the ending is just a waste of good potential.... the boss battle was way to easy and the payoff was **** (really a shame)

    a solid 7 from me!

The action picks off only by the 10th chapter and from this point on until the ending the game is pretty good. If the whole game would be like these last 7 chapters i would easily rate it an 8/10 because the gun-play is fun, the enemies are challenging and the soundtrack is awesome.

Fast forward to 2014, and they release a short mediocre console shooter on the crappy engine of Rage. Game is a huge download while being really short with few assets. What are they storing in those files, blu rays of the developers weddings or something?

Bad graphics for the hardware it requires, crytek makes it look like a joke. Gameplay is not that bad, but we have seen it all before.

You wouldn't excuse repetitive run of the mill shooters from a smaller developer, why overrate this? Because of id, Wolfenstein brand, and Bethesda? Meh. Avoid it unless you are a hardcore shooter fan.

BJ Blaskowitz feels like an interesting protagonist and isn't some empty self insert with no voice.

Combat itself is fun while nothing revolutionary. While I understand for narrative reasons you lose your weapons after each mission I kind of end up really enjoying one and being dissapointed not to see it again and finding a different version of it all the time. The game gives you the ability to dual wield also, but for someone that prefers precision and focus when it's offered and preferred as a method of approach, I dont see as much purpose behind crazy run and gun, and this is coming from someone who LOVED the new DOOM. I feel this is a much slower shooter in that regard (which is fine) but I'd prefer more weapon options than the ability to dual wield.

The game also lets you use stealth, and it usually works well in your favor, but the stealth system itself is very shallow and while it serves the narrative and feels fine in the game, it could have used much more work to make it feel more challenging and more dynamic. If I'm able to use stealth, let me use it more to solve the games problems and give me more abilities while doing it.

One thing I loved about Wolfenstein was it's occult side of the story and the nazis pursuit of power through it. This time they go some more grim and scary technology, so that aspect is missed, but it's not truly a major detractor.

With a satisfying story and gameplay, Wolfenstein is a worthy purchase. Ideally i'd give it a 7.5, but because I appreciate the older style of FPS, Im gonna go with an 8 over a 7.

Damn. There are a few games out there that look and play as well as WNO. I had little to no issues in any respect. In this digital gaming day-and-age that isn't as common as it should be.

Back to the actual game. Wow. Kick ass all over the place. An experience both visually and auditory. I ran this at full with no problems. The UI is simple and easy. The weapon wheel is straight-forward

The weapon wheel is straight-forward and clear. Menus are perfect and easy to navigate through. Sound is awesome. FX, foley and music are terrific and the voice-over work is excellent.

The game is brutal, unforgiving and exciting. It's a great story with lots of depth that works perfectly with the gameplay. Controls are effective and responsive. Key mapping is completely accessible. The game features a bunch of hidden goodies and a wonderful arsenal of single and dual-wield weaponry.

The flaws I found are insignificant compared to the amazing bullet-hell fun that the game is. I'd say it is a tad easy even at Uber difficulty but not throughout the whole game. Some areas are ridiculously hard.

It's an amazing game. Nazi killin' never looked and felt so good!

The game feels so smooth and streamlined to play, and the 60fps feels good. Intriguing story, characters you care about, and good ol' fashioned Nazi killing are what make this game great. My only complaint is that I wish it could've been a bit longer

Wolfenstein the New Order is a smartly designed first person shooter that places its emphasis on its single player campaign. There is no multiplayer and I don't think the game needs it. The inclusion of multiplayer may have diluted the single player experience which would have been a shame. Its rare to get a game that focuses purely on delivering a solid campaign. Its rare to get a game that focuses purely on delivering a solid campaign. Even the venerable COD series has long featured a single player next to its multiplayer. I don't play COD much these days but I always leaned towards the campaign more than the multiplayer.

Wolfenstein presents an alternate take on history. You play as Capt. Blaskowitz as you shoot your way through all manner of Nazi's. These can range from armored dogs, to mechanized ones known as panzerhunds. You also have giant hulking nazi mechs with advanced weaponry like lasers. The ways of dispatching these enemies are as varied as the enemies themselves. You will pick up weapons ranging from knives, assault rifles, shotguns, grenades, and yes a lazer cutter.

Beyond the varied weapons and enemies the game also does a good job of varying your gameplay. One moment you may be gunning down a room of nazi's while dual wielding assault rifles (yes you can do that), the next you may be sneaking about and trying to knife the enemy commanders. The game features open level designs in that you can approach a given situation in a number of ways. As you take out enemies you will unlock perks which further increase your effectiveness. Stealth kill enough enemies and you gain access to throwing knives for instance.

The story is engaging and as you progress you will come to love your comrades in arms who support you in your mission. The game features a variety of options from graphics to keybindings, etc. It also has plenty of collectibles to be found as well. There are a number of different difficulty options as well. I have been playing on "I am Death Incarnate." It isn't all that hard though the difficulty does seem to spike as you get into the later chapters.

Wolfenstein the New Order is a fantastic shooter and well worth picking up. I purchased it during a steam sale for $10.

The game would have been a lot better with a bit of the fluff removed IMO. That being said the game is fun, the gunplay is great and I enjoyed it and would recommend it. It's one of the best FPS campaigns in many years, but if you're expecting balls to the wall action like in Doom you may want to lower your expectations a little, especially when it comes to TNO, OB is definitely more action packed though. This incarnation sees you as that monkey wrench in the strict order of the most terrifying government imaginable: a world where the Nazis won World War 2, leaving them free to impose their irredeemably twisted ideology on everybody. But they and their sinster General "Deathshead" made the most fatal error of all: Believing one B.J. Blaskowicz down and out. As the genre's original badass, you will wreak holy havoc with an arsenal of dual-wieldable weaponry, with the strength of numerical health and armor pickups at your side. The way you fight will earn you perks from Stealth, Tactical, Assault and Demolitions trees, and all throughout the levels are collectables, some for collecting's sake, and others that upgrade your maximum health or armor or give insights into the world and its characters. Any level can be replayed to scrounge for items you may have missed, and any unlocked upgrades are retained unless you start a fresh playthrough. The game's setpieces and musical accompaniment are also excellent, and the implemenation of modern shooter features is very subdued: You can use ironsights, use cover and lean around corners if you want, but it is completely optional, as is attempting to sneak through levels and use throwing knives and backstabs. Several of the weapons have useful alternate fire modes and one weapon in particular, the Laserkraftwerk, recieves several upgrades over the course of the game and goes from a novelty to a powerful heavy weapon. You also regenerate only a trace amount of health, forcing you to conserve it and search out healthpacks as you would in the typical 90s FPS. The explosive action is accompanied by a suprisingly lucid inner monologue from our hero, coupled with brief but powerful moments of quiet interaction with his friends, raising this Wolfenstein from a simple fragfest into a category occupied more often by films then games. The campaign is riddled from beginning to end with surprising twists and a number of moments that made me smile, tear up or throw my arm in front of my face in disgust. The New Order is a true cinematic experience and embodies what I love best in the genre. I intend to revisit at a later date. Expand

The problem lies within gameplay design choices that make actual gameplay repetitive and less adrenalinic compared to classic title....for example checkpoint system save only; enemy recycled through levels with some minor visual changes; no auto-pickup of ammo and armour but you'll have to press "E" every time; tiresome and very basic stealth section (stealth in a fps game of Id software? why? If I want tactical action I'll buy a different kind of game); exploration for unnecessary side quest; dull boss figths; weapons feels all the same; some mandory and boring driving sequence, very little interaction with background....and so on
When you reach half of the game (Chapter 8 of 16) the game begin to get more interesting, with some in game sequence that give some emotive impact...but there is nothing new under the sun.

    -No quick saves

Amazing design and universe will keep you exploring, staring at devices, vehicles, posters and reading newspapers and after all, believe in the world beyond the corridors of the levels. And that is a rare and extremely important achievement. I have not had such an experience for years, and for that I am thankful to Machinegames. Quite a touching, long and insignificantly, but branching story will only fasten the impression. Voice acting deserves additional praise. Germans speak good and correct German, Poles speak Polish, and when both try to speak English, we hear correct and realistic accent. British speak British English, Americans - the American way. May be not really much of an achievement nowadays, but I literally experienced a linguistic orgasm. Flavour all that with awesome soundtrack and you'll get one of the most influential shooters of the last years. Only graphics might spoil this game for you: idTech 5 simply made me hate it with its dynamic resolution textures and shadowmaps and consider it to be one of the worst modern game engines. Looks like nothing is to be done: the industry is far not the same, Carmack is not the same, and now he isn't even at id Software, so I've little hope at idTech 6. Years later you wake up from your injuries to find that the Nazis have won the war and now rule the world. Its up to you to resume your assault on the Nazis with the help of other resistance fighters to take back what the Nazis have taken from everyone.

The setup for the story is great, and for the most part the character you play (William J. Blazkowicz) is fun, though he can feel a bit flat sometimes. I played through the game twice, and the ability of making decisions within the game that will impact the characters and story is a great addition and replay value.

As far as gameplay goes, I played on PC with both controller via steam big picture and mouse and keyboard, and some of the button mapping on the controller are a bit odd. The grenade button is also switch weapon. If you play on PC I would recommend using mouse and keyboard.

Playing though the game on the Uber setting can be somewhat frustrating/challenging as well. For the most part the game gives you a good challenge for this setting but some sections felt cheap as you can go from full armor and health to dead in a matter of seconds. You might move slowly down the hallways with little to no cover and suddenly 3 soldiers run out and kill you and you have to start 15 minutes back, or have to pick up all the loot you just had spent 5 minutes running around the room picking up. This to me felt not so much as a challenge, but cheap if you were not expecting it to happen. There are some moments where you will be moved from one location to another via cut scene and be thrown into an area with no cover. Shotguners will slowly approach you with a lot of armor and will instantly kill you if they get too close. Overall the game is fun, but can seem a bit cheap sometimes when the checkpoints are before you spent all that time picking up that armor and ammo.

The only real negative i had about this game was the final boss. I will not spoil anything here but on higher difficulties its more of a frustration with high density of smoke and particle effects filling the room making it even hard to see enemies.

Last issue I had with the game is as far as the gun pallet went, it was very boring. Shotguns, pistols, assault rifles. There was no tesla guns or any wacky guns i was hoping for. They seemed to go with a lot more grounded game including guns, characters and story, and i really liked the direction they went, i just wish there was a bit more diversity in the guns.

Overall good story and great gunplay. This game for me falls into the same category as Shadow Warrior where it had only a single player experience. I feel if this game came out as a 40 dollar game it would of been fantastic. But now as the cost has come down I would say this is a must own for any FPS or Wolfenstein fan.

You have to find a resistance, save some important pieces and kill tons of nazis in order to defeat the "New Order".

The gameplay is really good for a shooter: you can select among about seven types of guns, grenades, turrets, cut through fences, run, jump, strafe and slide. The battles are extremely fluid (the movements of the characters looks really real), but the AI is "medium-dumb" (they have some intelligence in covering, but you can easily kill lots of sequential enemies just because they keep coming). Something really bad is the stealth: if you don't literally run towards a guy, nobody see you. The game is extremely linear, and the difficulty is medium to easy.

The graphics are amazing (see Anya's eyes), though they are some renderization delay due to the way they did the game. The art is awesome, the places are extremely well represented, what makes the ambiance really well done. The soundtrack is present more at the end of the game, where it takes a more sad aspect, giving more veracity to the ambiance.

The history line is interesting following this "what if nazis won" background, with really good characters (really charming, with amazing dubbing, and really characteristics, since the awesome BJ Blazkovicz till the amazingly bad ass Dr Totenkopf).

Therefore Wolfenstein, the New Order is an amazing Action FPS, with a dropping tears plot, amazing ambiance due to the graphics and concept art, really good fights and also some extras (like golden objects, letters and other information about this parallel word where the nazis won). However, the bad stealth system (forgivable, if you think that blazkovicz is practically a Rambo) and the linearity of the game makes it not PERFECT, but that's it. The rest is amazing: 9/10

Graphics, music and level design are top notch.
Graphics are surprisingly light on system resources even if they managed to get amazing visuals, to a point that it feels like the concept art itself, just better because you're "moving" inside it.
The amazing background music of this game moves from industrial metal to German rock'n roll and I couldn't think of something better. Just one thing I didn't think was fitting was the ending/credit bgm, you'll decide yourselves when you get there.

Now the actual gameplay. There are a lot of cutscenes, always pleasant, there are almost no QTE (thank god) and the game is fairly easy on normal difficulty to enjoy the plot. Actually, about that there is an issue, I think, the game is FAR too easy on start, it's like they're considering you never played a FPS before, but overall, you get to die like 15~30 times throughout the story on the first run and it's never frustrating.
About replayability I'm not really sure, I guess you won't beat the game a second time on higher difficulty levels unless this is the only game you own, or at least you're not THAT encouraged to do so (there are a lot of achievements and secrets though).

All in all I really enjoyed this game from start to finish and I can only recommend you to get it.
Finally, to my linux fellas, even if the game is not for linux, it runs natively on OpenGL and outperforms many linux "ports" I own, not to mention that you get the exact same detail and performance levels you'd get on MS Windows.

My one minor complaint is that the game is fairly easy and even on the hardest difficulty I found it to be more on par with what I expect from Normal difficulty, sprinkled in with some harder sections in between. Moving on to the story, it's fantastic. Excellent pacing and intriguing dialogue, and even the inclusion of a moral choice near the beginning of the game somewhat alters the story, which gives it some replay value if you are really invested in the characters. (P.S. Moral choices make me feel guilty about my decisions :C) Overall, it's an excellent story-driven FPS and I definitely recommend it. Expand

Spent all day today downloading it to my other 2 systems and had the same problems. Spent 3hrs until now researching and reading tons of forums on the serious stuttering problem many people are having. I have edited game files, tweaked this and tweaked that and have checked all my drivers for each system and not yet found a fix that works.
I own 3 Alienware systems (1 laptop and 2 desktops) that are each more than capable of running this game. I have learned from forums that it doesn't matter how awesome your system is with specs etc., the issue with game is with AMD and NVidia. I will list my systems that each have had almost identical issues at the same point.
    #1 - Older M17xR1 w/SLI GTX 260m (with latest drivers), Q9000 Intel, 8gb DDR3 - 11FPS
    #2- 2yr old X51 w/GT 640, Intel i3 3.3ghz, 6GB DDR3 - 17FPS
    #3- 6 week old Area51 w/GTX 970, Intel i7 5820k, 16GB DDR4 (downgraded from win 10 to 7)- 25FPS

All 3 are NVidia cards...all drivers updated. Have tried all the fix tweaks for this game on each system with no change in FPS at all to the original. Have moved ALL settings to lowest possible for this game with only minor changes....and with these systems I consider it a crime to run this game at low settings.

If you are mature this game is fine however there are a few sexual parts (does not directly show) that could be problematic for immature adults and young children. This game doesn't need to be multiplayer either, there are already thousands of multiplayer shooters and this doesn't need to be another one. A Coop would be nice but is not needed, especially for PC. Expand

I enjoyed this game for what it was, but it does have quite a few shortcomings. Played on max difficulty which wasn't as difficult as you might expect. Going through stealthy is pretty much required in order to get all the special items (gold, enigma codes, etc), however it really distracts from what the game really should be. Going through stealthy is pretty much required in order to get all the special items (gold, enigma codes, etc), however it really distracts from what the game really should be. Hidden health upgrades (+10 permanent health) are worth it, but not required since there's a ton of health packs which can "overcharge" your health quite high.

Speaking of stealth, the AI is rather bad. I feel that stealth sections are broken due to this. There's no reason to use your knife to kill silently when you have a silenced pistol that kills practically any enemy with a head shot with sniper-rifle accuracy... and no one cares even if there's another enemy looking directly at the guy you just lobotomized. You can't move bodies out of sight, but that doesn't matter since enemies walk right over their dead comrades without care. It's not fun... there's no challenge at all. I would rather there not have been a stealth option, but I guess they had to shoehorn it in there. The most enjoyable way to play is with guns blazing. At least then there's a challenge due to the endless hordes of Nazis that swarm you (until you kill the officers... which seems a little odd that the swarms stop when you kill them). When you do get into a gunfight with them, they don't try to flank, and very rarely or effectively use grenades. Rush you, stand in the open, or hide behind a crate... that's about it.

The game looks great, feels great (thanks ID)... controls seem good, though I kept forgetting what number my weapons were. 2 is usually your pistol, but here it's your grenades. These are minor of course - you can change your mappings, and I was using the mouse wheel most of the time to change my weapons. Picking up items is kind of a chore, as you have to manually pick up every item you want, and sometimes it's difficult to get something under a body / bodies. I really dislike turret sections of FPSs, and the first combat you get into is a turret section... and the second, too. They did add some interesting areas to explore, and I love the gothic-style architecture that's been a mainstay in Wolfenstein (wish there was more, though). Enemies are well designed, and look different based on the environment you find them in.

Your weapons are pretty basic fare, with maybe one exception which is underpowered, in my opinion, for what it is (the sound of it is underwhelming, too). Battery charged weapons are a pain to use due to very low capacity, but there are charging stations everywhere to compensate - why not less charging with more ammo... it breaks the flow of the game. Dual-wielding is done right. I found myself using the assault rifle(s) the most throughout game, with the silenced pistol for specific stealth, due to their accuracy. You don't get a sniper rifle often, but there's barely a reason to use it when you have a super accurate assault rifle that's almost as strong. Shotguns, while they do feel like they're powerful, are worthless even when dual-wielding.

One last thing. I hate Nazis as much as the next guy, but these particular Nazis take evil to a new level. There are no redeeming qualities to them in any way, which I wasn't really fond of. It's truly a black-and-white good vs (pure) evil kind of thing. The game forces you to feel no sympathy for them in any way shape or form... I just felt it was quite a bit heavy handed in its approach.

I've been debating in my head between a 6 and a 7 for this game, but ultimately enjoyed it enough for a 7. Good for a single play-through, but I probably won't be picking it up again.

    - Moon nazis.

    - Wolfenstein 3D easter egg.

    - Collectibles and perks that feel really out of place and are often useless.

    - Linear corridor shooter gameplay - basically a CoD clone with nazis.

    - Quicktime events.

    - The difficulty setting translates into gameplay experience like this: very very easy -> very easy - > easy -> shotgun-nazis-more-powerful-than-bosses

    THE BAD

    - Silly, ridiculous narrative which is totally unbelievable. It would have been fine if the authors had presented it as such. Unfortunately the game takes itself too seriously.

    - A lot of cutscenes, including a totally unneeded and pointless love subplot with a sex scene.

    - Crappy close-up textures and vegetation, courtesy of idTech 5 engine. Devs tried to hide it with film grain effect and a ton of lens flares. Unsuccessfully.

    - Stealth system & AI is beyond atrocious (AIs don't even flinch when they find their killed comrades).

    - Throwing a knife into a Nazi's palm insta-kills him even though he can otherwise take multiple shotgun blasts.

    - You lose your weapons after every mission.

Tl;DR: If you like this kind of games, grab it while it's on sale. Otherwise you are not missing out on much.

First of all I'll comment on the technical aspect of it. Well it's no wonder that Carmack left Bethesda after he made idTech5, because the engine is currently the worst game engine there is. It isn't even on the same leage with other engines such us Unity, Unreal, or Cryengine. This game is made with idTech5, which is a very bad engine. First of all, the engine uses textures in such a way that they take way too much space, something obvious by the 50gb this game is. But while the textures are themselves big, don't make the mistake to think that they are appropriately detailed. In the game you will find many textures looking as if they were taken from a Playstation 1 game. Return to Castle Wolfenstein had better looking textures, and RTCW is a game from 2003, for God's shake! The game's lack of adequate anisotropic filtering even on the ultra settings makes the game's image too blury, and along with the nasty Depth of Field effect, visually, the game looks like a way overblurry pixel soup. Add to all that the unexplained fact that the developers decided to simulate color blindness for some reason which ended with the game being in various shades of gray, and you got a really ugly game, that's uncanny to look at.

As if these weren't enough, the engine as I wrote earlier is awful, and thus the image is grainy kind of like how there was snow in old CRT analogue TVs when the signal of a TV station wasn't good, plus there are incredible amounts of screen tearing, and even on Ultra graphic settings, there is no Antialiasing, and as a result everything is juggy and lots of things flicker. Your head starts acking after an hour or so of playing this game because of all of these. There are also bugs, like for example enemies hitting you through walls. Oh, and the game randomly crashes...

So now that I've told you about the technical side of this game, I will write about its bad design. Supposedly it's an FPS, though since I started a new campaign, 40 minutes passed until it gave me a gun to shoot and do what is done in a real FPS game. For 40 minutes the game was playing cutscenes and had me either doing stuff boring and unrelated to FPSs, like finding tools and fixing a pipe, or having my character just stand without me having to do anything because NPCs were talking and I had to listen. That's bad. It's not normal for an FPS game to pass 40 minutes without having a gun and something to shoot with it. Aside from that, who in the world thought that the first ever moment that character control is given to the player, it would be a good idea to have the character in a tight place were he can barely move, and with a timer counting seconds and killing the character off, before the player even have had the opportunity to try out pressing buttons / keys to see what each does and how the game reacts ? Bad, bad, bad! The developers should go back to a Game Design 101 class.

Playing the game isn't such a fun experience. Even when it gives you guns, and you have enemies to shoot, the weapons feel weightless, weak, and fake, let alone that they cover half the screen. It also managed to be less interactive than past Wolfenstein games. When you go to the castle level at this game, and you shoot at the Knight Armors that stand there, nothing happens, you shoot at the paintings and nothing happens either, while in Return to Castle Wolfenstein, the Knight Armor would fall and break, and the paintings would break to pieces too. I thought that as time passes and hardware becomes more powerful, and the industry more experienced, that interactivity would go up in video games, but instead, if we look at the Wolfenstein series it seems that games become more and more unresponsive, non reacting, non interative, things.

And it isn't much of a Wolfenstein experience either. Don't let the supposed medkit system fool you. There are medkits every 10 steps you make so its practically the same thing. It's a Call of Duty clone, complete with iron sights, cover system, simplistic linear level design, 3-4 other soldiers to help you open a door, others talking to your cliche earpiece and giving you orders, waypoint arrows that show you were to go, and all that poop.

If you are a Wolfenstein fan stay away to not get the series and your childhood ruined. Even the Wolfenstein game from 2009 that in its time was considered bad, feels way better than this.

Anyway, this does not happen often - sometimes levels are really full of enemies everywhere, sometimes you can enjoy beautiful landscapes. Travel to the Moon was good idea, though I cant say I was impressed. The game was fun at the beginning and at the end, quite long and sometimes boring. Anyway, it is hard to make good shooter. While plot of Wolfenstein is far weaker compared to, say, Bioshock: Inf, combat system is weaker compared to, say, Dishonored, this is very good shooter overall. I know its hard to make good game nowadays, and this game is good. Not perfect, but good. Expand

The only thing in the new Wolfenstein that turned out really well is music. Shooting is decent and some weapons give proper sense of power, but developers failed to build an interesting game on these foundations. It has some good moments but none of them lasts long enough to be satisfying. Plus the writing is terrible and the way the game constantly forces all that ‘war is evil!’ preaching and Blazkowicz’s moral dilemmas down your throat is ridiculous. I actually couldn’t decide whether the game is being serious or not. [07/2014, p.56]
