Very good game, high production values, solid graphics (not optimized though), great audio and characters.
Some areas really tough and unrealistic, but hey, it's a great game!

This review has troubled me more than most as I’m still trying to decide exactly how I feel about WOLFENSTEIN: THE NEW ORDER. There’s much to like here. Visually, the game is impressive, the combat is fun and quite challenging on the higher difficulties, and the story, although a little cheesy, and not a match for such franchises as BioShock or Half-Life, is pretty good. And the voice acting is solid throughout. There are also some impressive cut-scenes and very enjoyable set-pieces. Despite all this, however, the overall lasting impression of the game is that it somehow falls a little flat. Perhaps it’s the fact that there are so many cutscenes where control is suddenly wrenched away from the player (I like a good cutscene as much as the next gamer and they are necessary to flesh-out a full story, but here there are so many of them it sometimes disturbs the rhythm of the game). Or maybe it’s the rail-like, linear nature of the game and the lack of variety in the environments. Or it might be the fact that, although the game tries to offer a mix of stealth and run-and-gun it really only gets the latter right. Or maybe it’s just me. It’s true to say the same can be said about many good games and it would be unfair to criticise WTNO too much for having these traits. But at the end of the day, although I enjoyed WTNO, and will stick with the franchise, I’m left with mixed feelings about the overall experience. Oh, and it’s yet another game with no quick save, which is annoying.

I'm an old fan of the Wolfenstein and I think this is one of the best chapter. Wolfenstein: The New Order is the "perfect FPS": have a great story, really cool characters, best weapons and a great gameplay. This is so funny and have a good difficulty.

Every time you go on a mission you leave all your weapons at home?! The home base characters aren't interesting and the game would have been better without the base sections or it being reduced to cut scenes.

But I encountered problems with the pc version of the game. Problems I didn't have with the console version. The game would often crash at the loading screen, making it difficult for me to play. Even when I got the chance to play, I encountered pop up textures and invisible walls blocking my objectives. This meant I couldn't go past a certain point early on in the game. Now I realise most people have not encountered these issues, but I did and this is MY review so I will review the game based on MY experience. Not someone else's. Shame really. The game looked great on other peoples pc's. Expand

I'm happy the developers decided to only focus on single player. You don't have to worry about some half ass multiplayer. Instead you get a strong single player that is definitely worth 2 playthroughs.

now the stuff i didnt like so much. The characters were really typical and seemed to not have much character. Max hass and bombate are the biggest offenders. I dont understand how the games story was praised? yes the setting is great but the game had so many plot holes and stupid moments where, oh its hard to do this without spoilers but you know what im talking about if you've played it. Moments where your like "how did he not see that?!?" or "how the hell does that even work?" i guess im being to cynical and should just like the story and forget the plot holes and stupid choices the character makes. Okay i cant write this review without spoiling the game ill do another but just buy the game its worth it. i want to keep this review spoiler free, because spoiling something in a review doesnt make it much of a review for the propose its made: to get people interested or not interested

Another scripted linear slow console port covershooter. Ugh, as if there isn't enough of those already?

This thing is as far from being wolfenstein as possible. If you want wolfenstein, play the known Return To Castle Wolfenstein instead. RTCW is now a bit older but it still holds up very nicely though and actually doesn't keep interrupting you every second like New Order does.

With the slow start that the prologue was and also the issues with low voice sounds in the cutscenes i was a bit dissapointed but lets just say after the prologue the game really starts and wow its incredibly well done, the story, voiceacting, characters, gameplay the surroundings and so on. These developers together with Bethesda knows what they are doing.

If you are looking for a a good FPS single player game with great story you should pick this up. There is also this new Wolfenstein: The Old Blood coming out soon and im pretty damn sure thats going to be just as good as this if not even better.

Wolfenstein: The New Order brings incredible gunplay, interesting story with some fantastic characters, along with optional stealth sections (you can actually blast through them). The graphics look nice, but aren't the best.

Also, be aware that you need a really good machine to run it at stable 60 frames per seconds.

Fun in parts, but intentionally held back by design problems (that were solved by other developers decades ago) just for the purpose of feeling "retro."

Graphics are really good technically, although there's nothing here that justifies a 40 gig download. Seriously, what exactly is that hard drive space going towards, because it doesn't look any better than 8 gig games.

    PRESENTATION - 7
Graphics are really good technically, although there's nothing here that justifies a 40 gig download. Seriously, what exactly is that hard drive space going towards, because it doesn't look any better than 8 gig games. Aesthetically, it looks okay, but nothing that impressed, and I got lost quite a bit because many rooms look alike. Enemies have ragdoll physics and gib and bleed, which is satisfying. A few interactive background objects react to gunfire here and there, but nothing on the order of Stranglehold or the Red Faction games. Sound is good. Menus are functional. The plot is...there...clearly alot of effort went into it, but it didn't grab me (Nazis were evil?! SHOCK!).

    CONTROLS - 6
Standard FPS controls, although the movement feel isn't quite as good as Halo's. I like the fact that hard vs fast tap distinguishes between knife-melee and knife-throw. But you can only really carry 6 guns at a time (with dual-wielded versions of each) and you can't mix-and-match which gun you have in each hand the way you could in Halo 2. The guns are fine for machine guns, but there really aren't any unique weapons that impress (like almost anything from Painkiller or Bulletstorm). There's a new mechanic whereby some (i.e., very few) steel catwalk guards can be cut through with a laser and then fired through, but it's barely used, and even then it's a mechanic put to shame by, say, Battlefield: Bad Company 1 or 2 or any of the Red Faction games.

    DESIGN - 2
As a child, I remember having 30 minutes between when I got home and I could play videoames and my father got home and I had to start doing homework. So my biggest pet peeve in a videogame was always anything that I felt wasted my time, like grinding for levels or not knowing where to go or dying and losing all my progress. Let me assure you, reader, that this pet peeve has not at all changed now that I am older and have even less time for videogames.
In other, better games, waypoints (Call of Duty) or navigation arrows (Bioshock) have solved the problem of getting lost; regenerating health (Halo) solved the problem of having to waste time hunting for medkits; quicksaving/quickloading (Max Payne) solved the problem of losing progress on death. This game has none of those advances. Other than allowing you to carry more than 4 (or 2) guns at a time, W:TNB eschews every single advance FPS game design has made for the past three decades. You can criticize CoD games for being boring shooting galleries if you'd like, but Wolfenstein's distinction of adding in unnecessary design aggravations doesn't improve anything.
There's also an upgrade system, which is almost always a bad idea in action games, but at least it's automatic so it stays in the background.
But the absolute worst part are those fairly frequent sections of gameplay where the shooting just stops and you have to complete a key hunt in order to trigger the next scene, because some developer thought that would help "world-build" better than a cutscene. I don't play videogames to do busywork, I play to relax; I shouldn't have to "earn" the good parts of a game by playing through something that is manifestly un-fun to everyone. About half the 12-hour runtime (so I've read, I got bored and stopped halfway in) is spent NOT shooting people (either keyhunting in rooms without enemies or super-linear stealth gameplay). And it's not like that problem is solved in the multiplayer mode, because there isn't one. (No Co-op, either). There's little to recommend this game over those that let you just run-and-gun the entire length.

Make sure you have a powerful enough PC to run this game (you will still have pop-in, but it will be severely reduced). Okay so the TNO is set in the alternate reality where the Nazis won World War II. That is all you need to know because the story is just amazing and trust me, you will love it. The gameplay is described as "old-school" and it is, but at the same time, it is very refreshing compared the crap FPS that come out nowadays. Picking up health and armor (in my opinion) is better and more realistic than the covering behind something mechanic to get your health back. It just fits this game very well. You can also duel-wield weapons which is very fun. If you want a new, amazing FPS experience with a story up there with Half-Life and Bioshock, then get Wolfenstein: The New Order. Expand

This game is far from good FPS in general and its even useless to compare it to RTCW. Many people hated Wolfenstein (2009), but I actually liked that one. Now you cant upgrade anything with big pile of gold anymore and open hub areas are gone.

Story is bland and game has serious problem whether to be serious or not. Sometimes Blaskowicz speaks bravely about America but in next moment paintings drop from wall because he's screwing his girl so hard.

Sidekicks are lame and feel forced. Black guy having rhythm in his veins and big physically strong but mentally disabled guy who like girl toys etc. Are this type of characters _the must_ thing in a Nazi shooter FPS? Where is the martial arts master Chinese ninja guy and others?

Gameplay is somewhat good. Assault rifle actually feel like it has some pumping power. You can lean, lie down and slide on floor, but its pain in the ass to perform those key combos in tight battles. I didn't find much use for them.
Reloading and switching between weapons takes ages and you die needlessly often due to that. Oh, You can reload faster when you unlock Perks, but only after you performed 10 backflips in a row while shooting ten dogs with one hand gun and finally landing on spagat. Perks are unlockable abilities. You unlock them by killing enemies in different ways. Often the way to unlock them is too hard, because invariably all fights are so chaotic that it's impossible to think of anything else than finding ammo, health packs and cover. I find myself eventually just ignoring those perks.
Save/load feature is also gone. Checkpoint are mostly quite rare and you end up having same fights again, and they got just longer and longer as you go in game. What might dev's been thinking of when decided that...

Levels are quite tube-like, but sometimes you get barely a slight breeze of open areas, just barely. There are secrets things hided in places, but I couldn't find many of them in first playthrough. Oh and I got new checkpoint and I'm unable to go back finding them. Should I restart level or just go on? I rather go on. This game does no make me feel to explore places to find collectible or even play it ever again. It feels so clunky in many way. Malfunctioned (buggy) robot stuck in place, ladder become usable after killing hordes of enemies etc stupid things and AI just plays stupid. And Blaskowicz is tied on chair and Nazi commander stabs him with knife; Blaskowicz's health goes visibly down to 0, but raises to 20 in a brief moment. Quite cool.

Im trying to be tolerated, but it is really annoying when level are straightforward and there seems to be a lot o places where to go or hide, but you can't. I'm talking about bridge mission. It really did broke camel's back for me. "Stupid way to die" says he when I'm trying to jump on ledge where anyone else vg protagonist could jump in (in real life), but our William now just can't because of invisible mesh colliders. If you've played original Painkiller or Quake, you know what I mean by jumping all over places where's the skys only limit ((or water, heh).

Conclusion: It's not worst FPS by any mean and is worth picking for like 5-10 euros, but there are so many annoying dev's decisions which I mentioned, that I'm wordless.

Another boss in an earlier chapter had me shooting at it for about thirty minutes before I had to go online. I had no idea what to do. Plus a particular area lit up red in the crosshair but I discovered had nothing to do with defeating it. That's the main grumble out the way. The second aspect I didn't like was being made to search back and forth for items in the base. I like exploring the graphically well designed sets. Just not be made to whizz from room to room again and again when NPC's want something else finding.

8.6/10. Sorry no higher because those bosses made me scream. However I don't quite feel I want to round it off to 9/10.

People will probably hate me and mark my review down for saying this. However I don't much like WW2 concept games. W:TNO isn't in the same vein as you average WW2 shooter though. It's sci-ridden and it's excellent sci-fi. I got vaguley interested in the recent Wolfenstein because it had an occult theme. It's not on Steam though and too expensive on ebay. That is what lead me to looking at W:TNO. I am glad I did.

Beyond it's excellent graphics, the sets themselves are superb. I mean they are as imaginitively realised as any I have seen. The audio is equally well handled. There is music that fits the story, set, and tension. The sound effects are top notch. At one point I kept pushing up the volume to hear the music, which was a tech tune. I fired the heavy assault rifle and gave my self a shock. It was loud but it wasn't the volume. It was how realistic it all was for a couple of seconds.

One of the most underrated titles of 2014! "Wolfenstein: The New Order" sets a brand new standard to shoot em up games. With intriguing plot, stunning graphics, and a perfect representation of what current gen "remakes" should be.

Altogether the game is dynamic with actions which alternate well infiltration or shooting. A rather reactive IA (mode uber) which can surprise the player. Then the graphics is very correct and the well detailed maps if one stopped for all to visit:)

VSync does not work, or at least it doesn't on NVidia cards - you'll have to set it to Force On via Nvidia Inspector - and there are some terrible autosave points that completely wipe the fun out of the game. The worst comes in the final boss fight, a two-stage affair which requires a great deal of crate-raiding before proceeding to the next round. Rather than saving when you enter that final round, your save is after the end of stage one, and thus every re-attempt begins with the crates. However, look past the few rough edges and you get a great game. Expand

Level/environmental design is quite varied, yet the visuals are slightly outdated due to some noticeable low res textures and lack of anti-aliasing. Texture pop-in and framerate hitches were some other performance issues I came across occasionally. Disabling screen space reflections and shadow resolution decreased the stuttering greatly while also producing little to no discernible difference in visual quality, yet texture pop-in remained unresolved.

Gameplay mechanics are also quite solid and guns feel satisfying to use, though I do wish the game would automatically collect ammunition just to make it that little less tedious.

The story in my opinion doesn't work, it wobbles awkwardly between "f*** yeah" action shooter moments and super serious depressing depictions of war abuse, and the tone shifts are often so abrupt that it rivals Duke Nukem Forever. There is a romance, but it boils down to "hurr I f*** her sometimes and it feels nice", which might be appropriate for a main character who is basically a big slab of concrete that loosely resembles a person, but doesn't exactly make for engaging storytelling. The only character that works is the woman in the wheelchair.

From a technical standpoint, the game is nearly unplayable due to texture pop-in. This is the absolute worst case of pop-in that I've ever seen. Running on my pretty beastly system (4790k, 16g ram, 780 Ti, Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD), the framerate is very smooth, but the game is constantly replacing blurry low res textures with normal textures right in front of my eyes, and then promptly switches them back to low res as soon as I look elsewhere (and that's at absolutely maxed settings). It doesn't even load the area you are in, if you stand still on a specific spot and just keep looking around 360 degrees, the game will be constantly trying to texture the environment. It feels like, when in any other game you load a save file or enter a new area after a loading screen, it may take a second or two where things look blurry, only here it happens ALL THE TIME. The graphics are not even impressive, and even the "high res" textures are pretty low res, it's completely inexcusable for a game to perform like that.

It has some good moments definitely, but do you really want to sit through 15 hours of migraine-inducing pop-in and facepalm-worthy story to see them? I'd suggest avoiding it.

W:TNO starts out giving the player choices between gun-play and stealth, but the stealth gets phased out as the game progresses. The last 3 missions of the game had only 1 stealth moment between them. The gun-play is put together well and all of the weapons have a satisfying heft, but around the 7th mission the game just becomes of a slog of rooms and corridors filled with Nazis and few to no options on how to kill them. Just mow them down with a huge gun and some explosives. I wasn't expecting Hitman: Blood Money, but I did want a little more variety.

Then there are the cut-scenes. I understand that storytelling has become integral to big budget games, but wrecking the game play and pacing in service of the story misses the point of what a video game. It's an interactive medium, we do not want to simply sit and watch. In W:TNO, all too often control is wrenched away from the player so a Nazi can subdue them to advance the plot. Sure, I just stabbed 10 healthy young Nazis to death, but in this cut scene an old man will beat me up. Running around with two shotguns is a power fantasy, and these cut-scenes are like a bucket of ice-water on my good time.

W:TNO has some really fun parts, however the game becomes more generic the further you get into it. The first half felt like Far Cry 3, the second half felt like COD, and the amount of cut-scene defeats is unforgivable.

The weapons are implemented well and there are just enough of them. Graphics are high value and look convincing and interesting. The 'Perks' system is fun while not getting in the way. It has fair addictiveness factor as oppose to the latest CODs' single player, which in my opinion are worse than not playing any game at all. Some atmosphere is also there, though it is noticeably less than the Metro series (for ex.).

And while I don't try to compare this game to older Wolfenstein games and didn't really have high expectations at the frist place, I am pleased to say I thouroughly enjoyed it and I whould be happy to play future games in the series based on the experience with this one.

-1 point because of pure technical reasons - the 60 frames cap. (yes I know - the human eye...blah blah). I did enjoy some 120+ fps gameplay just before this one, and this limitation was a bit like a cold shower (only after getting used to the smoother performance, otherwise it is fine enough. Still, the point is: such technical policies should not be tolerated, especially for the FPS genre).

PS: It totals to about 8-9 hours of gameplay

Having the actual possibilty to choose how to deal with a situation between stealth and going full frontal in most level is quite welcome (although I don't recomment doing the latter too much on the highest difficulty level).

The storyline in itself is good, and the cutscenes don't feel like nuisances even when you know what isgoing to happen and you easily feel immersed in it, although the ending could have used some work.

The game in iself however is slightly short (10 hours to finish it), and unless you did the game full stealth and you want to do it again full assault (or the opposite), its replay value is quite low and the exploration is quite limited. The graphics are also slightly disappointing.

Overall, it's a good game, but it is not a revolution that will relaunch the classical genre of FPS.

As for the gameplay, it's a good game. It's a lot like Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It can be difficult, but it's not impossible. Dying a lot adds to the game because it means you can't blindly run through it. I like the way the game handles NPCs. The guys that fight alongside you are invincible, so you don't worry about them running off and dying and you getting blamed for it. They're also useless, so you can't camp and wait for them to kill everything. Enemies completely ignore your buddies, so you can't use them as decoys. I like the game's perk system. It's based on doing things rather than getting free **** just because you're a unique snowflake.

B.J. is like dumber brother of Max Hoss most of the time. Things doesn't work properly in most of the cases, like you cannot go with just sneaking and silent killing because nazis will see you even in darkest places, you can get stuck on the place by invisible wall or just held by some furniture. Half of the game is boring platforming, cut-scenes which I really hated and helping people who doesn't give a **** about you. Seriously there was a guy with assault rifle crouching and yelling at you but he never made a single shot. And who's idea was putting knife throwing button on mouse 3?! This game is so "console" made it hurts my eyes. Every time I saw a chance to let B.J. die I let it happen. Because he deserves that. If the B.J. from first Wolf 3D would live he would definitely smash the face of this **** for good. He is so dumb and other characters just use him for their own purposes. At the end of the game he crawls bleeding to the crowd of people and than fell to the ground when he reaches them. But they just shout some **** and let him there to rot . Even his great polish love! Seriously! And in next cut-scene another character needs help from him in stuck elevator, because dozen of people standing out of elevator cannot do it. The game, B.J. and most of other things are so stupid it hurts. Dumb nazis are damn sharpshooters and they can hit you even behind the corners. They also know how to teleport and most of the times spawn out of nowhere when you reach certain spot. You want to get all golden items and other collectibles? Ok, there is just one chance to do it so run around all corners and peek into every hole, because once you get through some point, you cannot turn back. Seriously that big muscled man cannot jump on most objects and don't know how to climb! So if you missed something, restart your checkpoint. And speaking of checkpoints, they are most evil thing of this game. What the hell is wrong with good old quicksaves. Instead of saving you got some weird checkpoints and when you die, which happens a lot, you will load from the checkpoint, which is far away and mostly behind big battles, where you will die again and again and again ... So my humble opinion after this horrible experience is, there is something very wrong with people these days, if they like games like this and make games like this and call it old style FPS's and other bull****. They probably never played old style FPS and doesn't know what they're talking about. The days of Carmack are certainly gone and this game is another tombstone to FPS games. Expand

Of course, the graphics are really dated, and there is some visual problems that are jarring, but the art direction of the game pulled of a superb job.

Same with the story. I mean, even if the Americans failed to free France, the Soviets were pushing hard at the east front, but ok... Nazis won the war. Then we have all sorts of crazy inventions. Robo-dogs. Giant mechs patrolling cities. Nazis in the **** moon. It is ridiculous, but it feels... real, I don't know.

It's only a shame that the game works with a clear dichotomy between good and evil. It's so... manichaeistic. BAD AND DUMB NAZIS. GOOD AND SMART ALLIES. And I find it funny, actually, because the game depicts the Nazis as totally dumb people, but, let's be honest, in this universe they not only won the war, but they have a **** colony in the moon with drones patrolling it.

Anyway, the story is filled with humor, but it's not in your face at all the times. It's more of a nice touch. And I ended up caring for the characters at the end, because they felt real, and they had great development along the game.

The gameplay is a mixed bag of old school and more recent gameplay. But it is really good, challenging and addictive. And the level design is really nice too. Not anywhere near Half Life levels design, but it is good nonetheless.

This might as well be my personal game of the year. It has many flaws, like dated graphics or some gameplay mechanics that just don't connect... But it was so damn funny. And after 12 hours, it was over, and I was wanting for more. I recommend it for anyone tired of recent titles of first person shooters who miss the old days of glory of the genre.

A nice story and old school FPS playing style Wolfenstein:The New Order worth every penny you pay.
The musics of the game is great and fun. Maybe AI could be better and deeper characters would be better but overall, thsi game is a very good game.

It's been a while since I played Wolfenstein: The New Order but what I remember was a solid shooter that, better than many games, manages to create a strong atmosphere that doesn't let up (for most of the game anyway).
The gameplay is indeed solid, if you are willing to overlook "atmospheric" QTEs that should have been replaced by cutscenes rather than bothering you with button prompts (when will devs finally realize that QTEs are DO NOT COUNT as gameplay?), with some weapon choices that leave you a fair amount of freedom in how to kill the enemies and even some stealth options - Yes, there are missions that are almost impossible to win with the head-on approach but it is almost always an option, just not always a smart one.
The graphical fidelity is certainly adequate, with nice amounts of detail to see in the Nazi architecture, weaponry and propaganda you see around you. Character models are very decent and there's really nothing that outright detracts from the experience. Now, it's not the best looking game in history but unless you have a texture fetish (and should see a psychiatrist), you won't pay too much attention to the walls.
The story, however, is the real sellingpoint. You heard right, it is pretty good, with A LOT of holes and quite a bit of ye olde cliché sauce all over it but the atmosphere really carries what the game aims to do: To give you the feeling of exploring a Nazi-controlled world. The other characters and the events that explore their personas are few but relatively interesting, some outright touching (but again, few and far between). Not to mention a few quotes and cutscenes that give you actual goosebumps.
BUT there is one thing that makes me want to slap the devs around for: The German "originals" for the articles you can find ingame. WHAT THE **** KIND OF IDIOT DID THEIR TRANSLATION WORK?!!! As a German native speaker, English and History student, you bet your ass I take offense at the atrocious work done there in a game that so obviously tries to be atmospheric? Did somebody's first-year German student cousin do the translation into German? A guy who has no ****ing clue about what propaganda speak was like in German newspapers under the Nazi regime? ****ing hell. I could have done a WAY better job than that, not that that says much, because pretty much EVERYBODY could have done a better job. And this is infuriating because the English version of the article is okay, better even! But the German version is "pseudo-censored" and not the slightest bit authentic but full of "politcal correctness" and thus weird expressions that have no place whatsoever in a game with this content or context? But even if the political correctness was done on purpose (which would be reason enough to slap all the devs in charge several times with the Duden [think Oxford Dictionary but for German]), there are still sooooooo many grammatical and spelling errors in the German text and signs you find in the game. What a letdown in an otherwise strong atmosphere, and a real kick in the teeth.

But you know what's an even bigger kick in the teeth? That's right, the German version itself! Not only do we get no access to the original, English voicework (but are stuck with the mediocre-at-best German voiceover and translation that doesn't even come close to the atmosphere), they also screw us over with "no less atmospheric alternatives" for the Nazi symbols. ANY REPLACEMENT IS LESS ATMOSPHERIC AND AUTHENTIC. That is the thing about authenticism. Now, I know why German laws are as they are but this is stupidly exaggerated in this context.

All in all, the game is worth a look and buy if you don't have to put up with the kind of **** German citizens and Steam users will have to put up with.
And for those who do: I explicitly don't condone piracy. Should you be presented with legal or grey-area ways of acquiring or playing the game in its original state, however (like playing it while you're abroad, which is what I did), don't hesitate.

An absolutely amazing game overall. The gameplay feels smooth, the animations are nice, the aesthetic fits the grim tone of the story, and the story is just legendary. It dethrones popular story-based titles like Bioshock and Portal without trying. While it may lack the replay value of games such as Dishonored, it's an amazing title that is on sale on steam at time of writing.

It literally made me feel like crying at the end because of how well the game goes with making you CARE about the characters. And not just love the characters but ACTUALLY hate the abd guys, which is something pretty much no other game made me feel. Sure it is naive at times (very naive, making nazis look rather incompetent) so some suspension of disbelief is in order.
The graphics are good but not great, progression/shooting/collectibles/levels are all top notch, with multiple routes to take. There is support for both stealth and rambo gameplay although I found myself doing something in between. Enemy AI is very good, agressive and always trying to flank you in a smart (well, usually) way.
The world is crafted in an epic way immersing you into the story since mission 1.
There is enough guns and enemies to keep you interested till the end of ~15 h campaign. You constantly get something new to do what Blazkowicz does the best, that is kill all the nazis !
There is one issue though and that would be the pacing. Sometimes I found myself grinding my teeth on a stupidly long fetch quest or wondered why the hell this great level ended so quickly.
Ever wondered what would happen if nazis won the war with laser guns and robots ?
Wolfenstein New Order answers this perfectly. 9/10

Honestly, I was really looking forward to a game with what was billed like a game with great graphics silently killing Nazis with a knife, instead I get just might as well shoot them in standard linear COD format, with beautiful NP cutscenes and somewhat atrocious gamplay graphics. Not to mention an auto lockon bug which prevents stealth kill shots. I had seriously been waiting months to play this, and the wait and expectation was considerably more fun than the actual game

Basic shootemup hoping once again for more. Killing some Nazis was the only thing that earned it a 5.

1 Originality Factor: Machine games has done a great job keeping it old school just like the old Wolfenstein we all know & love whilst also adding in some new age style to it as well with a new perks system this game really feels like a old school shooter from the 90's.

2 Game Play & Mechanics: There are two different ways to play this game through most of it. You can run & gun all day long make lots of noise with HUGE! guns & let mayhem & carnage reign supreme or you can take the semi new addition stealth sneak up behind the enemy kill the commander before he has time to call in Reinforcements The stealth element is surprisingly well done and the kills are extremely satisfying. (Much better then metro last lights stealth elements) The game allows you to chose which play style you like. Mechanics wise there are perks that can be unlocked to provide bonuses, such as faster reloads and greater magazine capacity etc. The perks can be useful but aren't really needed in this game.

3 Artificial Intelligence: The AI is no dummy in this game a single gun shot or the wrong step or noise can set off a alarm screwing your entire stealthy tatics not to mention if they hear a dog attack they know you're there & if you're playing run & gun you'll find yourself restarting a little more then anticipated because they will actually go looking for you if they know you're there once a alarm has been tripped they are on alert. It's not the best AI I've ever seen but machine games did a very good job at making the game difficult but enjoyable.

4 In Game Options: The in game visual options are sadly a tad bit lacking with only a few options these would be Graphics Quality, VT Cache Size, VT Compress, MAX PPF, Shadow Resolution, Deapth Of Field which can't be turned entirely off, Screen Spaced Reflection, Additional Quality Settings & Haze Flare & A FOV slider, Very simple but they get the job done. You can't bind 1 key to lean left or right which is sad but you do get a toggle lean which allows you to look up & over down & about or left & right it takes some getting used tro but it's not actually that bad. The rest is very simple key bindings resolution & sadly no audio controls except for master volume it would have been nice to be able to force the game to run in surrounf instead of what windows runs default but hey again it gets the job done & it's nothing that really effects game play.

5 Stealth: Now for some this is a touchy subject many people have said "It looks like metro last lights stealth" well yes & no its no splinter cell or thief game, But you can't just kill somebody right in front of another AI enemy whilst their back is turned because if the two enemies are cloes together or within their peripheral vision they will notice it so stealth is a bit touchy in this game but it does a great job with it. It's actually pretty hard to do stealth on uber mode & it does a much better job then metro last lights stealth elements.

6 Weapons: Everything from Unreal Tournament's flak cannon to underslung rockets on your assault rifles this games gun play is beyond satisfying dual wielding Unreal Tournament's flak cannons? HELL YES!!!! the guns are loud, proud & HUGE! just like you would expect in a 1990's shooter. Weapon upgrades can be found throughout the game's levels & each one of them offering something fun.

7 The World & It's Story: Visually this game surprised me the graphics of the world are compelling & lots of atmosphere especially the moon level visually again the textures are very good I don't think I have seen a single texture over used all be it not the best graphics but definitely better then a lot of games these days. Trapped in a vegetative state for 14 years, Wolfenstein hero B.J. Blazkowicz awakens to a 1960 dominated by Nazis and a life no-longer solely defined by the killing of them. A alternate history reality where nazis won world war 2. The story is very compelling & it gets you hooked in imediately especially if you're a scifi nut and/or history nut I don't want to ruin much but the ending is sad.

8 The Characters & BJ's Relationshhips With Them: I can't help but feel drawn into the world of wolfenstein the new order because of the way the characters react to you & what's going on around them there is just a lot of emotion between you & all the others lots of sadness lots of love lots of hatred & anger. New characters introduced just in time to die tragically, old war buddies now confined to wheelchairs, a ragtag band of misfits overcoming adversity and making a stand. You get to see a side of BJ as well filled with remorse over an early-game choice. During slower moments to his innermost thoughts reflections on childhood traumas and dreams for the future. & if you sit & listen in stealth mode for a bit the nazis will have convos about real world issues they actually have a personality. I can't help but feel drawn into the world of wolfenstein the new order. My rating 10 out of 10 keyboards.

When I bought the game I promised myself to be open-minded and not to judge book by its cover. Was I disappointed? In a way: yes. Don't get me wrong, the premise, the atmosphere and the story itself are thought-over and executed well enough to satisfy my sentiments (mind you: I count myself as an avid id games fan), but there are too many things that let me down.

Sin 1) Checkpoints: you cannot save game, when you make mistake, you have either to "live with it", or restart from checkpoint - of which some are scattered unevenly across chapters. Even worse, sometimes you aren't even able to backtrack between them (see sin 3). Just think about a piece of action when you silently killed 15 Nazis, but somehow the 16th managed to avoid the execution and sounded the alarm... Kaboom! You have no option but deal with the mayhem or do everything from the beginning.
Sin 2) The cut scenes - they irritated me rather than moved the story forward. In fact by developers' choice some of the player actions are cutscenes as well. Take the attack of the panzerhund: not only you don't have choice of weapon (knife), but in some cases made the dog invincible to any weapon when attacking (because the cutscene took over while I was firing at it).
Sin 3) Open world? Where's the bloody open world? The game and gameplay is annoyingly linear (don't be fooled by "choices" it offers you - not only they are marginal for the action, but they don't influence the outcome). Also you are VERY limited in exploring the surroundings, even to the point that finding an alternate route makes the game "glitch" - like Nazis spawning behind you in corridor you just explored.

Not a sin, but still a thing to think about: the fun factor. Lets face it, I'm still having more fun with trusty, TEN YEAR OLD Half Life 2 than The New Order. I don't recall ANY game that made me curse so much as Wolfenstein - not because it challenged me, but because I was powerless to affect what was unfolding.

Now, I have played many of the "recent" FPS titles but always ended up leaving the games aside for a reason or another. CoD: Ghost got me bored after only 3 hours of gaming, Crysis 3 was graphically stunning but kinda got repetitive and more like a chore to play for me.

The problem with many new titles these days (not only FPS) is that they try to be "unique" and sometimes focus too much on "new" gameplay features rather than the actual content of the game. Wolfenstein: The New Order is not original in that regard and offers a rather traditional game play, so no surprises there.
Progressing through the waves of enemies can be a bit dull in the way that there is not a huge variety of them but the AI is not the worst I've seen in a FPS game.

All of that aside, Wolfenstein: TNO kept me hooked until the very end. The strongest point of the game is clearly the story, and more precisely the way it is integrated to the game play. Some people might not like the "lack of originality" when it comes to controls but after finishing the game, I thought that the play through was rather "natural" and intuitive.

The graphics are not "next gen" but pretty good. Crysis 3 did a bit better in that regard but people who rate the game 0 because they are not satisfied with the textures are a bit silly. (But hey, it's the internet!)
I didn't find that controls were a problems in any way ("finger gymnastics" as mentioned by some people) and experienced one minor bug only through the whole game (went through the floor while trying to jump where i wasn't supposed to). There are occasionally however as mentioned by a few people collision issues with bigger sized enemies that basically make them harmless.

I had no expectations and knew nothing about this title before actually playing it. I felt that some parts were a bit over the top but overall it had been a while since I enjoyed a FPS game like this. I liked the characters and their development through the game.

Despite being a bit linear, I feel that the game should keep most people interested until the end.

Gameplay / controls: 6/10 (because a bit linear / not innovative)
Graphics: 8/10 (It's not next gen, but it's good)
Story: 8/10 (It's not perfect, but it does the job well)

    I give it a 7 out of 10.

Gameplay: The shooting mechanics themselves are solid as a rock. Each gun gets it's own secondary firing function which you unlock gradually. Some of the weapons you don't even open fully until the very end of the game, so you're always getting something new to play with. You also have skill trees, which unlock bonuses for performing certain objectives in your play style. Like to run and gun? It'll reward you by giving you bonuses for that. Like to play stealth? Same deal. The great thing is when you die, you don't lose what you did previously. Example : Get an extra knife in your sheath by performing 25 stealth knife kills. Now if you killed 5 guys in that run and died, it doesn't reset on you.

Graphics: Graphics are good. I'm not a huge graphics guy, so I don't really have much to add to it. No screen tearing, no slow down, every thing visually is good.

Story: This is where the game shines. The story is almost something out of a Tarantino movie. It has an outrageous plot, but it's taken seriously. You care about every character (there's even a scene early on where you can make a pivotal choice with your crew that changes the way the entire game plays out) and the love story between you and the female lead is something mature and not silly. I mean, it's an alternative time line where the Nazi's rule the world in the 60's using technology such as mechs, lazers, flying fortresses, etc. But surprisingly enough it still manages to be completely serious and compelling. There's a train scene that has as much tension to it as the opening "The Jews are like the rat" scene from Inglorious Basterds.

I recommend picking this up. I almost feel spoiled now for the rest of the year because I know I won't be getting something of this quality for awhile. You WILL NOT regret it.

I played it on game-autodetected medium and I was, again, glad I could limit the framerate to 30 to save some watts on the GPU. It had texture pop-in, but not as bad as the release-day Rage. What really stunned me was the easter-egg Wolfenstein maps: even with minimalistic texture details and level geometry complexity, texture pop-ins. We have come far in the past 20 years, right? I bought it on sale which was well worth it at half price. Expand

Even the graphics make up for the tech limitations with a clever art-style and quality character animations. I honestly haven't had this much fun with a FPS since Far Cry 3 (which is a very different animal). The game lasts longer than most and creates a creepy/campy/fun atmosphere in which to slaughter Nazis. I can't wait to see more from this developer. Minus one point for the hour I spent tweaking graphics with console commands. Otherwise, a top notch shooter that feels like fan-service to the id and 3drealms of yesteryear. Expand

I wasn't expecting much from this but have not had so much enjoyment from a game in a long time. I think it is the best FPS I have played for years. Unashamedly old-school and at times very silly, Wolfenstein is the game that Duke Nukem should have been. In a market where over-hyped tedium like Watchdogs gets the sales it is worth remembering that games are supposed to be fun. Buy.

Leading up to the release, I thought it was going to be just another shooter trying to market itself using the franchise's legacy. For the case of Wolfenstein, the legacy of being the first one there - thats right, the original Wallenstein from id software is pretty much the first game that let you see through the eyes of the protagonist as you go from room to room, clearing enemies while wielding a gun on the bottom of the screen. Yep, it was the very 1st FPS in history.

The story takes place during the high point of World War 2 in Europe, you crash land into a Nazi occupied castle, accompanied by a small group of soldiers scattered from various regiments, you have a clear task of cutting the head of the snake and end this war. The game captures the agony of defeat at your most vulnerable time - just when you thought you had it won. It carries a very powerful and emotional punch to the gut itself, but what transpires during those darkest hours will haunt you throughout the rest of the game. It further connects you to the game on a very personal level. The characters that you meet to help you fight against the Nazis aren't just there to move the story forward, they aren't your typical forgettable characters you find in most shooters, oh no, they feel like real people going through real hell thanks to the New World Order of the Nazis. Everyone here lost something dear and precious in the 'Old World' to the Nazis and hence have very personal vendetta against them. While on the other side of the fence the cruel and horror nature of the Nazi is brought to life through very well written, well designed and I can confidently say, well hated antagonists in the game. You just don't want to save the people around you, but you also really want to hurt the Nazis and give them no mercy of a quick death.

First impressions are always going to be the visuals, and this game looks good, very good. Not just id tech 5 looks amazing here, from ultra crisp textures, great attention to detail in every corner to bring the world to life. What really caught my attention was the cinematography and the art style of the game: The game uses colors and their contrast to great effect, combined with the sheer attention to detail I mentioned before, it creates a visually orgasmic experience! The environments are very distinct and crafted with a lot of care and thought just like the rest of the game, no two places ever feels the same. Another thing to note, not only the game takes you to a wide variety of places across the world, but across the time as well. The art style, the condition of the world and it's inhabitants reflect this brilliantly.

The level design also gives the player a lot of options in dealing with situations and change tactics on the fly, which the game actually forces you to do so when playing in harder difficulty modes, which I suggest. The weapons are mostly standard you would expect from a sci-fi shooter with some cooling alternate firing modes and there is something incredibly satisfying when you can dual wield weapons like assault rifles, shotgun and even...rocket launchers..thats right..dual wield rocket launchers.

What really stood out for me is also the main reason I will continue to come back to this game long after I finished it is how precise and satisfying the shooting mechanics felt. It is just pure joy to point your gun and just shoot. Further, the weapons feel solid, distinct and carry satisfying feedback all of which combine to make one of the best shooting experience possible . It is the most basic mechanic for a shooter, but you would be surprised that most fail to deliver here. Modern shooters have made great strides in graphics and other enhancements through this medium, but it also came at a price of deteriorating the key functionalities which made this genre timeless. A lot of the essence of the genre is getting lost with modern 'refinements' being made into the genre. It is very pleasant to discover that Wolfenstein have gone back to basics with their approach to shooting. I found the firefights challenging without being frustrating most the time on the 2nd highest difficulty mode I played. The AI was definitely smart to box me in, flank and even find higher ground to get a upper hand during combat situations.Oh yeah one more thing, the game doesn't even have regenerating health, Win!

Wolfenstein is very likely not just my game of the year, but it is one of the most important games to come around in my opinion with a clear message: sometimes you have to embrace the past to guide you a better future.

A really good shooter with immersing storyline, which takes quite a lot of time to complete (compared to MW* and BF* that's a big advantage). Shooting Nazis has never been so enjoyable before, with a variety of weapons available, and a semi-rpg trait system to kill the Nazis even faster and more spectacularly.

I have enjoyed the rest of the game, it is well put together and the preceding scene on the train worked incredibly well and then that pointless and crude scene came along and completely ruined it. it was completely out of place and felt like it had been forced in to objectify the characters and take away any compassion I might have had for them. what was the point of that? am I supposed to feel more caring for the characters now? now they have been reduced to sex objects? the entire connection with the game world has been destroyed by that and I now feel very negatively about the game, I have no motivation to continue because I now see the game world as a porn set and the characters as sex puppets. I don't even understand the motivation behind this tasteless stunt. how does it fit in with the characters ethos? the scene at the beginning where he clearly states that family is not for him. so instead he screws this nurse he had the hots for? am I supposed to feel empathy for his actions now? or maybe his entire persona has changed now? am I supposed to find the world believable?
I honestly don't feel like continuing now.

The wall and object textures are lackluster, but the character models are just beautiful. The objects on a table aren't acually THERE there they are just drawn on. Some times you will see a pencil drawn on a desk and it's almost hysterical. But that didn't bother me. I'm not the graphics and "Next-Gen" type of guy so I appreciate the developers for what they did. Even if they did cut some corners. MachineGames never did anything to the game that brought me out of the immersion, I was always focused and ready to bring the free-world back.

How can this be "wow so cool!"?? And the game has this kind of strange stuff like taht non stop. It was seriously a pain going trough the story.

For gameplay, it's ok. The fact that you can have double gun with rifles is nice but overall its so useless because your aim is awful, you spend so much ammo and you walk slower. You use it 2 times and then see that uts an awful way to shoot at ennemies so you just hide yourself and do headshot.

And GOD, for a shooter that is named Wolfenstein stop asking me to look non stop on the ground to press a button to grab ammo or health. God... This is not an RPG. Its a shooter where you want to destroy your ennemy. Each time you enter a room you must search for ammos and hp because if you dont you will die so its alwahs taht mini search game looking at the ground for ammos. Sounds loke fun?

    No.

And the laser gun... I suppose they wanted their gravity gun or something like that, but overall it seems pushed on you and plain annoying to use and recharge. Its powerful yes, but man I am playing wolfenstein: I want to shoot shotguns and non stop rifle on the ennemy. But you will be forced to use that laser gun.

Its an ok shooter for 10$ max. 60$ is way too much. And also way too short.

within the first 15 to 20 minutes of the game, the feel of wolfenstein hit me like a ton of bricks, in that old castle with some overdone, unrealistic Nazi inventions roaming around, alongside the 37 helmets that I guess he stores on his knees, and the food that he instantly inhales to fix his bullet wounds. the game feels like it should, like wolfenstein.

but from ID software, i'd expect a little more.

now here's the thing EVERYBODY NEEDS TO GET ACROSS THEIR MIND. ID software had nothing to do with this wolfenstein or the last, with the exception of licensing their engine to another company so they could do every last bit of designing. you haven't seen anything from ID software since doom 3 and quake 4. so for those of you saying ID is dead because you didn't like the last two wolfensteins, stop being ignorant, buy doom 4, and come back with your opinion.

The last programmer worth at least his weight in short-grain rice from the bulk food aisle, John Carmack, is longer working there, and even then his most brilliant idea for this engine series in the past decade or so has been megatextures, something that no one is terribly likely to use in the near future even with multi-thousand-dollar graphics and storage setups (not to mention the bandwidth required to download these games). What is so horribly wrong about id Tech 5 here? Lack of graphical options. Lack of scaling. Options that are forced off on the consoles in order to get it to run on 10-year-old technology are not present on the PC. The game doesn't even go below 720p!! You can't turn off antialiasing, nor anisotropy!! These things must all be forced off manually from your graphics drivers' control panel. Currently I'm sitting on a $60 turd that I cannot play despite meeting the minimum requirements because of the poor technology - also catalogued in the RAGE release, by the way - released by one of the former greatest graphical engine programming teams. The only thing in the new Wolfenstein that turned out really well is music. Shooting is decent and some weapons give proper sense of power, but developers failed to build an interesting game on these foundations. It has some good moments but none of them lasts long enough to be satisfying. Plus the writing is terrible and the way the game constantly forces all that ‘war is evil!’ preaching and Blazkowicz’s moral dilemmas down your throat is ridiculous. I actually couldn’t decide whether the game is being serious or not. [07/2014, p.56]
