Within The Backrooms takes a concept now mostly known for YouTube videos rather than it's origins, and decides to do something more original, opting for an exploration and expansion of the original concept rather than the tired spooky monsters, loud noises and jumpscares that plague the wider area of online horror writings, videos and games.

Where many Backrooms games have failed, relying on the same collection of vague humanoid killing machines, this game decides it doesn't need any real threat to terrify you. Instead, it uses what made the idea of the Backrooms terrifying in the first place: the location. You will inevitably get lost within the hallways and mazes put before you, and many pathways will lead to dead ends or huge mysterious rooms with no immediate purpose. While you do have goals in this game, finding these huge spectacles is often it's own reward, and makes this version of the Backrooms feel vast and immeasurable, despite the relatively small sizes of the maps.

Obviously, this game won't appease everyone; there's a very specific audience that will adore this game for what it is, and I'm a part of that audience. If you are interested in the idea of a Backrooms game that is focused on exploration and replayability primarily, then I would highly recommend this game.
