I will get straight to the review, go to the end for my "MMO resume" to see my previous experiences and if that helps you determine my credibility on this review.

I'm having more fun in Wildstar than I feel I have any right too. I thought I was done with MMO's a few years ago, though I kept trying out new ones. A buddy of mine told me about Wildstar and by luck, I got into the closed beta from a key of another person who didn't have the time to get into another MMO. Even in Closed Beta, I was pulled in enough to submit bug reports, do surveys and everything a Beta is supposed to do. I was shocked how much fun I was having. Sometimes, I'd lose myself for half an hour or more and forget that I didn't have any quests where I was. The game is just fun at its very core.

The gameplay is based on telegraphs and skills, RNG and tab targeting do not determine your fate in this game. Besides Tera, it was probably one of the first games that really made me feel in control of my own fate. When I died, I learned something and felt that it was my fault (and not that of a cheating or buggy AI, or gear for that matter). Every skill you use is one that you must aim and connect with the enemy. The more powerful ones from the enemy AI come in various shapes, patterns and sizes that increase with difficulty as you move throughout the game.

Dynamic encounters that utilize their telegraph functions, double jumping, messing with gravity and other features constantly draw you into the combat.

And there's more than combat! The tradeskills are rich and dynamic as well. If you are a miner, then there are mineral deposits that when mined will land you in underground caverns. If you are a lumberjack, there are trees growing in wild places and you can plant your own to saw at your house. Relic hunters often find their prizes in ancient ruins and fascinating environments. Housing helps with buffs to your gameplay choice (PvP, PvE or Group Content).

And the Group Content! It's important than an MMO has systems in place for something that is Massively Multiplayer. ESO got this wrong with punishing grouping players with broken phases and instancing. SWOTR made it too easy to solo through content with a companion, with little incentive to share loot and exp.

Wildstar gives you a special currency called Renown, just for questing with people. Renown lets you get awesome gear, flair for your customization mount, decorations for your house and more. Guilds let you get access to perks that help with repairs, buffs, gear and more. They have free "guild light" type things called circles that allow you to group friends into identifiable social circles, letting you have a common chat and the ability to find each other throughout the game without the guild costs/ perks. You also can belong to multiple circles, so you can join one that might have a bunch of people interested in Firefly... just to chat.

This game is the first to make me excited enough to join review websites and share that excitement with others. As promised, here's a short list of MMO's I've played for at least 30 hours...some hundreds.

World of Warcraft- Played from Vanilla until Cataclysm, only heavily in Raiding in Wrath, but did Arenas in BC and Wrath.
Guild Wars- Only did their endgame stuff briefly in a guild, maybe 3 months.
Guild Wars 2- Played their World vs World at max level for around 3-4 months.
Rift- Always changed characters before getting to end level.
Tera- Played until endgame, didn't do anything major there as the cash shop turned me off the game.
SWOTR- Failed to get to endgame, but spent many hours and quit a few months before it went F2P.
EVE Online- Never got past 1-2 months of playing in a row.
FF IV- Only got about 15-20 hours in before I got bored.
ESO-Only MMO where I couldn't even make it through launch due to bugs.

Wildstar recaptures that feeling I got when I started Vanilla WoW. The game has a slow start, but don't let that fool you, Battlegrounds and Dungeon content ranks among some of the best stuff I've ever played.

Coming from a vast experience in MMOs, WIldstar is truly a masterpiece. It is engaging, challenging and fun. For those who seek great rewards for small accomplishments (Most other MMOs), Wildstar may not be your cup of tea. Do not expect to roll through PvE content. Do expect to be challenged to the max.

Wildstar is a game for MMO enthusiasts. If you're like me, and you've given everything on the market a try then you know it's hard to find something to really invest in. The movement of the game alone makes it worth checking out and the combat is second to none.

And that housing system... I was totally blown away!

I got in the beta the head start few bugs but by far the smoothest MMO launch I have ever seen! The development team clearly listens to the playerbase for input. The classes are fun and feel different. Both Factions are enjoyable.

One thing I will say now. It's a Cell Shaded game. Which is an Artistic choice. Many mistake this for "Bad Graphics." Another thing people are claiming to try and make the game sound terrible would be the lack of ability to play well on AMD processors. Okay first off if your using AMD and expecting it to run video games Made recently then your out of your mind! AMD used to be good. The operative word "Used".

Also people claim Wildstar as a Wow clone. Ignore them as it's clear they never played this game or World of Warcraft. When the Genre, the Classes, gameplay, and features are nothing alike then how is it a clone exactly?

Point is some of the reviews here are misleading or just blatantly done by people who haven't played. I'd recommend the game in a heart beat. If the fun engaging combat, the player housing, the Minigame styled crafting system, the engaging story, the Humorous tones at times, the PVP, or the simple fact it's fun doesn't get you hooked then there's simply no pleasing you.

Like others have said, combat is a refreshing change of pace. Nice to have a bit more action as compared to WoW.

I guess my only criticism at this point is that I wish there was more starting areas (i.e. each race getting its own starting area).

As for the subscription fee, $15 / month seems nominal for some casual fun. I'd rather pay a small, flat monthly fee to encourage them to develop/invest in regular new content.

If you like WoW, IMHO, definitely worth a try.

The endgame dungeons are very challenging, and it feels great doing the runs with my guild and we feel accomplished every time we manage to finish something. For once, I found an MMO challenging again.

I love the customization in your house, mount and clothing. The world story is also pretty dark in my opinion, so don´t be fooled by the looks of this game. The artwork and graphics is different but refreshing for me at the same time. Some may think its "cartooney" or to "comic book like" but i think it adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game. I have only pvped a couple times but found it to be fun. I love the fact that they are making the players earn raiding and earn your gear by way of bringing attunements back. Sorry if you will not like the game because you have to put skill, teamwork, and effort into it. Only word of caution i give to some people if you are a performance junkie is make sure you CPU runs at the recommended system requirements. AMD optimizations are coming shortly but AMD folks will struggle for now with framerate. Other than that this is by far the most refreshing and best MMO to come out since World of Warcraft. I highly suggest you at least try the game and see for yourself if you are in the market for a new MMO to play. Expand

Combat: Not clunky, fast-paced, and unrepetitive.
Graphics: cartoony, humorous, fresh, and fitting.
    Sound: marvelous space opera themes
Gameplay: evolution, next-gen MMO, it's got a lot of good traits from past MMOs while addressing the bad ones such as repetitive grinds, bad queueing, end-game issues, etc. PVP is great!

Wildstar is an incredibly fresh and fun MMO. The combat feels new and engaging. PvE demands and rewards skill. Most importantly, it's a modern MMO with the depth of WoW that just feels better. It needs to catch on and gain a larger playerbase, though.

It literally is like they took bits and pieces I loved from other MMO's and crammed them into one package, and I'm so thankful for that. Add Pixar quality graphics to the mix, and you have a game with both form and function.

Innovative? No, I don't really think any MMO is. The combat is a blast, but it's far from innovative. But that doesn't stop Wildstar from breathing a fresh breath of life into the genre.

This is all my opinion on this game. Let me also point out that I don't ever write reviews. I think the last review I wrote was for Halo Combat Evolved to give you an idea of how rare this is. I also only even consider writing reviews for truly exceptional games, especially ones that I don't believe get the credit they deserve.

I'll also point out that I have a lot of experience in MMOS, or I should say experience trying out MMOs. The only MMO I've actually enjoyed for more than the first few hours (until I played Wildstar) was WoW. I easily have over 300 hours of gamplay in WoW, though my interest is finally almost depleted. Having enjoyed WoW so much I've tried multitudes of other MMOs. I've tried Tera, Rift, Aion, Guild wars 1 and 2, Vindictus, LotR Online Neverwinter, SWTOR, Skyforge, FFXIV, Eve Online, Blade And Soul, Star Trek Online, and I'm sure several others that I can't think of. And most of these I quit before playing more than 10-15 hours so I'm not even qualified to review most of them. I'm sure most of them are really good games but they just didn't hold my interest, even though I always wanted to and expected to love each one of them prior to playing. Maybe the end game content is great and I just never got there, but if the game can't hold my interest past level 10 than I'm obviously not going to play it.

So what's my point with all of this? My point is that out of all of these MMOs, Wildstar is the only other game besides WoW that I've continued to play for many many hours and I think anyone who has enjoyed an MMO should give it a try. It has amazingly fun combat, the character creation and character models are awesome, it has fantastic end game and raid content. I could go on and on but other reviews have already gotten into the specifics of the game so check those out if you want more specifics on the actual gameplay.

I am super picky when it comes to MMOs, I'll try any (and have tried a lot) but if I don't love it I won't play it, and I love Wildstar and I think it deserve more attention. Please give the game a try and see for yourself!!

There's another unique feature called Paths. Besides the usual race, class and tradeskills, you chose a path. And this decides a lot of what you will be doing. For example soldier gets you new bosses to defeat, zones to defend and so on, all with it's own story. Or settler which I am right now, let's me build stuff around towns and cities, useful stuff. I'm loving settler tbh.
The skills are very interesting and cool (I was shocked at thow boring skills were in FFRR, the last mmo I tried). And the skill and perk system is very configurable, letting you switch skills on the fly, which I like too.
The crafting system looks cool, but I still have no idea how it works, it's not just click and craft, you have to select different ingredients and put them in a kind of grid.
The world is full of stuff. The path system helps in this regards. There aren't any boring zones, because besides missions, events, ingredients, or the usual things, the world is also populated with things related to your path.
The graphics are cartoonish. They don't look awesome in the sense of technical power, but they are pretty and very detailed.
Oh, and the game has a kind of Borderlands humor.

All in all, very good mmo and I'd say right now the best you can play.

I've been playing this quite a bit lately and have been very surprised by how much I am enjoying it. It is the cure for the itch that fans of early day WoW/TBC have been having for years now. A return to an MMO experience less insulting to the intelligence of the player.

The game looks very good, though it's visuals might turn some off. I was wary at first, but I find them charming and pleasing to the eye. It's a very colorful and lively feeling world that doesn't take itself too seriously, but still manages to capture your attention. The "loudness" of the game's silliness may turn some away, but I haven't found it to be overbearing. I've been pleasantly surprised in that respect.

The combat is very pro-active and demands your attention. By the first dungeon you will be having your chops tested in a way that recent MMO's have been far too scared to do. It's a refreshing change of pace and really adds to the game's appeal. You feel like you accomplish something when you take down a really hard enemy and you know it was because you played well, not just because you're OP.

The PvP feels fun and fluid, and is very fast paced. Again, skill seems to play a large factor here as well, as someone who cannot aim their skill shots will not be doing very well at all. Also, this game supports open world PvP, something that recent games like GW2 and ESO have shied away from entirely. You -will- see the other faction in the world, and on a PvP realm they will try to kill you. Great!

Audio in the game is pretty good. The tracks are fantastic and capture the spirit of the game world pretty well, but I do wish there were more variety in the tracks in-game. I've found myself re-listening to many of them as I've played, and you start to recognize the ones you hear often. The music is good, but they could use more variety.

Group content is in tall order, but you can solo as well. Wildstar's landscape is riddled with elite enemies, world bosses, group quests, and mobs that will generally just wreck your face. The dungeons require coordination and some communication. No more sleeping through the leveling process. This was a return to form for the genre imo, and I've been really enjoying it.

The housing system feels fully fleshed out, and doesn't feel tacked on at all. I've been enjoying it immensely. You can pour quite a bit of time into just tinkering around with your house and land, planting in your garden, and going out into the world with the sole purpose of finding new pieces of decor. For instance, the last boss in the first dungeon I did dropped an epic quality statue! I won it and now have a bad to the bone huge dragon statue on my front lawn! Cool!

Overall, if you've been disenchanted with the "e z peezy" philosophy of recent MMO's and have been waiting for a fully featured theme park MMO that got back to the roots of the theme park genre in terms of teamwork, expansiveness, and systems complexity, then give Wildstar a shot.

My only gripe is that the UI is a bit buggy requiring frequent reloads of the UI. For instance, name plates often disappear among other things, but they seem to patch nightly and things slowly come together day by day. The meat of the game is stable and runs well for me. I have found a total of one bugged quest. Regardless, it is a quality product.

Wildstar is hard, but it is FAIR! If you die, it's most likely because you messed up and thanks to the telegraphs you'll usually know why you died.

The other features, like warplots, pvp, housing, adventure mode, paths, the crafting all great but the selling point of this MMo is the telegraph mechanic by far...

But for those of us who love mmos, love the questing, the exploring, the crafting and all that an mmo can offer the developers at Carbine have created a wonderful game that they've obviously poured their hearts into.

The dedication of the developers is evident not just in the game however, but also in their direct and honest interaction with the community. The folks at Carbine have reset the standard when it comes to community involvement. When there are problems they own up to them and work diligently to get them fixed as quickly as possible and update the players every step of the way.

Launch for me was the smoothest I've ever seen in an mmo. That being said those who chose pvp servers were faced with incredible queue times due to limited available realms and there were a handful of account and login issues. However before headstart had even finished the devs had worked out patches to address the major issues and were ready to roll out free server transfers to ease the queue issues while also bringing up multiple new servers to handle the additional load. And that's what matters, every game will have bugs and other issues, it's how they're addressed that matters to me most and Carbine has proven time and again that they want to make this the best game experience possible. I hope to be playing this for as long if not longer than my time in WoW. I think I've found my new gaming home.

There is no simple auto attack you must aim watch your cool downs and time your attacks. The game has a very funny laid back vibe kinda has a borderlands feel. Crafting is a nice tight system that will be easy for anyone who play's MMO's to jump into. The housing system is top notch and I haven't had this much freedom since SWG you get your own plot of land in the sky you can build hundreds of things on your land. Want to garden got it personal mine got it, crafting table got it, a train full of hobo's got that to. If you like MMO's enjoy raiding, pvp, building your own place ine the world Wildstar will wrap you up in its arms and love you back. The game has some bug still they do updates and server maintenance almost daily and are working very hard to get the game at 100%. They have already had a much better launch then most MMO's and are doing large wave bans to get rid of bots and hackers. The game is top notch with your normal launch bugs but is fast on its way to a 10 in the MMO world. Do yourself a favor and get wildstar see you on Nexus. Expand

Anyone that gives this game a poor review based on server availability during launch isn't grading the game itself. Anyone saying this game is a WoW Clone hasn't actually played it. Unless they are referring to the fact that there is PvP, PvE, and Questing. That is where the similarities stop. The leveling experience is fresh and fun, adding in much more than the normal dull grind. Every subtle detail that Carbine added in to Wildstar makes it a game that every MMO gamer should have in their collection. This game is the next step in the MMO genre.
The only thing keeping this game from a 10 is the lack of optimization and the inconsistencies in frame rate.

I will aim this review to the more Hardcore MMO'ers.
Firstly I think MMO's are the hardest to review and I only enjoyed UO/Everquest 1/Daoc/Wow/GW1. Everything after was just "meh" Imo.
Wildstar so far has exceeded in every expectation so far. I am lvl 30 when writing this. I will just some it up in Pros and Cons, since you cannot really explain an MMO until you try it yourself. -

    - Pros -

    - Combat is solid...fun and it works! I enjoyed combat way more then I thought I would. Keeps you on your toes.
    - It is hard! Challenging...and dungeons are difficult, you will die alot and when you nail that Boss...you feel like a Boss!
    - Not boring/Grindy...The experience from lvl 1-15 to 15-20 to 20-30 so far are quite different and different playstyles.
    - Great Music/Sound
    - Once ingame , it is pretty stable for release.
    - Housing is pretty addictive and well implemented, i have never been one for MMO Housing but WS have done well here.

    Cons

    - The paths are meh...It really does not matter which you pick in the end. They offer different play styles on the side, but all of em I never really went deeply into or found anything new here. They could a done better with Scientist too.
    - UI still needs a bit more polish.
    - Server queues

So far WS has been great, this is only from a leveling up point of view. My worry is end game content, which is what kills most MMO's for me. They get boring quick.
Looking at the list of current content and the difficulty of WS I am sure for now WS will be fine if you wanna raid/dungeon hunt end game. Where WoW went wrong...(Pre TBC Imo) WS is doing right. Great classes/Great combat/20-40 man dungeons and WS is hard...very hard but in a good way. It mocks you when you die....yet you learn from your mistakes and rewards you well for accomplishing what you were doing.

Yeah, the queue problems exist but that is partly due to users because they all want on the same server. I decided to move to a server that wasn't full and haven't had a single login issue. The quests operate similar to most MMOs, but I feel like they have more purpose and add to the storyline. Adventure mode is a lot of fun and I'm gearing up for my first dungeon. The housing is a fun feature and I like having access to my own challenges on my plot. The class/job system is great since every class can fit into multiple roles (tank, dps, healer). Pat hang adds a new aspect to work on. Haters are going to hate, but I'm a very jaded, cynical MMO player but this game has charmed me. Expand

Carbine has managed to craft one of the better MMO's in a long time here. I've played a lot of recent MMO's lately, from SWToR to FF14 and Wildstar will have me hooked for a very long time. The only issue I have with the game right now is the really crappy optimization, but that should be fixed and the FPS issues should be ironed out.

Wildstar is the new MMO I have been waiting for. It brings MMO to a whole new level with big changes in the combat and questing system.
The game, its self, is already insane good - but it also got potential for more content later on - it's what we pay the developers for!
Keep it up, Wildstar, and win all MMO-lovers heart

Now before I start, you should know who I am so you can decide yourself if you wish to read my words. I'm pretty old-ish, I played EQ (dark elf cleric) L2 (dark elf SK) and WOW (Undead rogue, Belf Mage) to the beginning of WOTLK. So I know a thing or two about MMO (though I now prefer strategy games like the total wars). So I know a thing or two about MMO (though I now prefer strategy games like the total wars). Now after wow I left MMOs , was done because I looked at AION, SWTOR and I tried ESO beta, and I laughed cause they weren't great. I was certain I would never go back to PC MMO gaming!

Now two days ago I bought Wildstar early access and had a three hour wait while they worked through a back log of creating accounts (wow, lots of folk wanting to play) But after that I logged on Oceanic PVE, and started my game. I'm casual now, too old for rushing but I felt no need at all. In fact once I left the starter area, a quick zone chat (said "hello") had three friends and a party to share the questing experience.

A few things I noticed: 1, grouping is worth while at almost anytime, there is no reason to play alone. 2, the art style is refreshing and humorous. The back story and world is fully engaging (yes I stop to read all the books), in one particular cave is a boiling cauldron and a sack with an intelligent creature in it mumbling to itself, that's awesome. 3, progression feels natural. 4, I got my own house and garden and workbench and my friends came over, I nearly spent an entire day there.

Now issues I saw, one, a taxi type creature's feet did not move while taking me a new village....that's it for me, I guess I've been lucky.

So you can not go wrong with this game unless your one of the few that has technical difficulties (devs and CS are very open to the community, speak and they shall likely answer). I can easily see this gaming actually being worth the sub fee which so many recent MMOs were not. I am now once again a PC MMO player and will likely have to split my time between Wildstar and destiny. You should be too.

This game has a lot of content, and I mean A LOT. There is something for everyone, whether it be questing, choosing a specific path, working on housing, professions, etc. I have not gone to end game yet, so I can't comment on that.. but from the dungeons I've done, I can see a fun and exciting challenge awaiting.

    Cons:
Of course, not many games ever had the perfect launch... not even WoW. Server queues were pretty bad at the start, but only because EVERYONE was trying to get into a specific one (they made a few more realms to help resolve this issue). My BIGGEST complaint will have to be some of the sloppy UI. The questing system is a bit hectic, and not as compartmentalized as some of the other MMOs. I'm sure they'll fix it and make it better, just as WoW did... and for now Addons help with this problem. Another con people might have is the art style (a bit cartoonish), but the graphics are nice. If you can get over the cartoonish artstyle, this game is great.

TL;DR: This game is amazing in terms of content, gameplay, and game mechanics. Cons are sloppy UI and questing system, however just like any start of an MMO, give it time to be refined. Definitely a game made to last.

WildStar does a good job of taking MMO staples and making them fresh again. From combat to questing, dungeons, raids and housing they have put their spin on traditional conventions and IMO, it feels very fresh and fun.

Find a friend who has purchased the game and see if they have an extra 7-day guest pass for you, and play up to level 15 to decide if you like it. For me, it's a blast.

Two, because the crazy amount of community outreach from Carbine Studios has given me a taste of the passion this company has for the game. Three, because the game is PHENOMENAL.

Notice how I said the GAME is phenomenal. I am actually pleasantly surprised to see so few negative reviews on such a large release, especially on Metacritic. I say this because the launch had quite a few issues, but most were expected (long server queues, login issues, serial problems, etc.). The ones that weren't (Optimization problems, memory leaks, crashes, etc.) have been largely addressed by the community surrounding the game with people finding workarounds for the big problems while Carbine tries to get them sorted out. Usually the Negative Nancys come running at the smallest sign of weakness. But I know why they didn't this time. Because this game, unlike the ones they usually complain about, is freakin' amazing.

Currently, my highest level character is a level 20 Granok Warrior (Soldier path). I have done quite a bit of PvP and have had my first taste of group PvE and I gotta say, I am having more than a blast. The leveling experience has been rewarding and fresh, with plenty of small things like secret areas, path missions, and the occasional Challenge (CHALLENGE BEGINS) to keep it from feeling like too much of a grind. Lore is positively SEEPING from every nook and cranny from this game and you can get a MOUTHFUL of it without even looking to hard. The polish of the visuals is nothing short of sublime (provided you have the hardware to do the good stuff). Its world is rich and full of charm (the kind of charm us grown-up-WoW-kids really want to see). It's crazy when it wants to be(which is to say usually), wacky when it's appropriate, and impactful when it needs to be. My face lit up when I first saw the blazing light and pyrotechnics flare up around my character accompanied with a giant LEVEL UP in an awesome heavy metal font, complete with a bad*** anouncer (HOLY $#!% YOU LEVELED UP) and a guitar riff. It hits all the right buttons and fires on all cylinders.

Not into all that craziness? Chill out in your house. A big plot of land that you can truly call your own. Floating in the sky. By far the deepest and most robust housing system in an MMO to date. (wow im going to go over the character cap at this rate). Feeling bored? Buy a giant floating rock formation for a little jumping puzzle action with some rewards at the end for your trouble. Feeling lonely? Make your house public so anyone can see the abode you have created! Scared of strangers? Make it private and have a select few neighbors to see your creation. This and tons of other tradeskill bonuses and other things make it obvious why it was a selling point for the game.

I would now like to talk about that first dungeon. I played a lot of World of Warcraft. I raided, I dungeoned. I had some of the best gear. I come from a solid background of PvE in MMOs, having tried most of them in recent years. I've never seen its like, and that's saying something. I was transported back to my first time in Wrath of the Lich King doing Ulduar for the first time. I was in Ventrillo with the tank and the three dps in our group (the healer was a random who turned out to be a hardcore raider from back in Vanilla WoW). For those of you unfamiliar with the lingo, do some reading. I had already heard these dungeons were hard (dying from trash, tough mechanics, etc.). I was prepared for a challenge. I was not disappointed. We died on the first pull. Then the second. Then the third. All the while, I'm grinning ear to ear. The feeling was awesome. After figuring out what we did wrong we got to the first boss. Thankfully, one of us had read-up on/done the fight already so we went in knowing what was going to happen. Now, as everyone knows, knowing whats about to happen and being ready for it are to different things. It took us an hour,(An HOUR), to beat the FIRST boss of the FIRST dungeon. The last time it took me an hour to do anything in an MMO was before I even knew the touch of a woman (well before it actually...Moving on). Needless to say I was as giddy as a kid on Christmas. In the end, we couldn't finish the dungeon(othe obligations got in the way, as if there are any) and I DIDN'T EVEN CARE! It was that much fun. It's all uphill from there.

If this sounds like you kind of game, strap in cupcake. You're in for one hell of a ride. See you on Nexus.

I honestly can't think of an MMO that has ever challenged me this much.

The substance of Wildstar isn't limited to combat though. There are truck loads of lore and story, but it doesn't get served up on a platter. You must find lore books and journals and read. The zones are chock full of easter eggs and the sheer verticality of many of the zones are very impressive. The questing system bombards you with quests and challenges - so much so that you need to learn to control what you want to do and how your want to do it. There are loads of instanced PVE group content as well and a very substantial end game - with lots more also to be released on an montly basis.

Wildstar is probably not for the ADD generation. If you don't pay attention, you won't have a clue what's going on and you will pretty soon find yourself running into a brick wall. But for gamers that love substance and deep games with loads of content and incredibly fun mechanics, Wildstar is absolute GOLD.

I was pretty much won over after my first dungeon run and the fast-paced combat style, but all of the other little things that are done well in the game are all coming together for a great experience overall. It isn't reinventing the wheel, just taking the best parts of it and building from there.

My only main gripe is the fact that solo quest grinding is by far the fastest way to level. i wish dungeons/adventures gave competitive amounts of XP, but such is life.

From the point where you step out of that character creation you're introduced to a world that is full of life and zanny, sometimes outrageous characters. Don't judge this book by its saturday morning cartoon cover, because there is a great deal more depth underneath.

Disclaimer: I'm no expert reviewer, but I consider myself a very experienced MMO player. I started in FFXI, played WoW, GW and GW2, both versions of FFXIV, Champions, CoX, and numerous other MMOs. I'm no pro, but I've been around the block.

So why do I think Wildstar is a good game? Let's break it down!

Story: On the surface, Wildstar is about two factions racing to claim as much as they can of the planet Nexus. But Nexus is much more than it seems, and the ancient race that once inhabited it has left many secrets for them to discover. On top of that are memorable characters, rich story lines and pages upon pages of lore. My only real complaint is that the story loses cohesion in early zones, and switching from zone to zone in quests is a bit disjointed.

Combat: Like most MMOs, you don't get the full measure of combat until around level 5. But even before then you get a taste of fast paced combat where movement and positioning matters, and where you aim is important. Attacks are smooth and enjoyable, both in use and in their display. It has a 'traditional' hotkey system, but attacks play out more like an action game than your standard MMORPG. While you're stuck with your class you choose, every class can fit into any role you really want. You can be a DPS, tank or heal or any mix inbetween. Even in that MMO trifecta there are numerous different abilities and power-ups to use based on your tastes, so no two characters will be the same.

Graphics: The cartoony look is not going to be for everyone. But if you can get over it, you'll find a lot of personality in every visual this game has to offer. Colors are bright and vibrant, attacks appear suitably powerful and shiny, and the armor is some of the most appropriate I've ever seen in a MMO. No bikini chainmail here! (Yet, anyway.) Character design is a bit lacking; Unfortunately you cannot change everything about your character, but you can still make one that's unique to your individual tastes.

Sound: 'OH YEAH, CUPCAKE. YOU LEVELED UP!' Just the leveling up graphics and music is enough to suggest that this is one game where the sound won't bore you with bagpipes and pipe organs. Most musical tracks are very lively, but still manage to keep to the theme of the area you're in. There's some voice acting, but most quest characters have some canned sentence to say that probably has nothing to do with the actual quest. There's a great deal of atmosphere in the sound design, from the rumble of an engine to the buzz of electricity; combined with the graphics it makes the world feel a great deal more alive.

Questing: I'll be honest, they don't break the mold on questing. Most quests will revolve around seeing an exclamation point over someone's head, you talk to them, get the quest, and go get or kill what they want. Hard to break out of that system, but at least Wildstar keeps things interesting. Some quests involve interesting puzzles or exploration, and even if you need to kill something it's represented by a percentage instead of a strict number; Harder enemies represent a higher percentage, and fewer you need to kill. There's also Path quests for the path that you choose at chargen, which spices things up and gives you more varied quests to undertake.

I've praised the game a lot here, and for good reason; it does a lot that's good. But there are some down sides. There are a slew of minor, but irritating bugs that have cropped up, from buttons that can only be pressed if you hover at the exact right angle, to some bugs with account items. While robust, the story can seem a little discombobulated if you miss certain quests. And even with mixing the quests up, they can get a little repetitive. None of these are game breaking, but enough for me to take a point off.

All in all, I think it's a game that's at least worth a good look before you turn it down. For some it might take some getting used to, but I think that the game has polished everything that makes MMOs fun to a fine shine.

I am going to give this a super honest review and point out some key features (and failures) with this game. First off, I gave the game a 9 but I sat here for a good 30 seconds flipping between 8 and 9. It definitely is a solid game that deserves a high review.

Key features that make the game amazing:
    - New combat system. Seriously awesome. It makes pvp more intense and dungeons a lot harder. You can't just run around like an idiot and keep someone targeted. You have to manually aim your moves which is incredibly challenging and fun.
    - Crafting. Crafting is a lot more hands on than other MMO's on the market. It isn't simply a "Craft this item 4000 times and level up" system. You follow branches and unlock stuff manually. It's cool.
    - Player housing. Although it isn't as cool as SWG pre-cu housing, it definitely is awesome. Plus it serves a purpose other than entertaining me for hours on end. The fancier the items in your house are, the more rested XP you get. So I spent a solid 1 platinum on making my house the coolest thing around for both my entertainment and practical use.
    - Great Community. People seem super friendly and are willing to help.
    - Super easy to Mod.
    - Very challenging PVP and dungeons. I swear these level 20 dungeons are harder than most other MMO's raids.
    - Different quest paths
    - Class paths on top of your main class. They have classes called Soldier, scientist, explorer and Settler. While you are leveling your toon, you can run around and do side quests to level your other class for cool unlocks. It makes things interesting since you won't always be doing the same thing on each alt/friends quest line.
    - Lots of end game content (just research it, Im not going to type it all out).

    Faults:
    - The game is sort of hard to run. It's not like the graphics are ridiculous or anything, but for some reason this game taxes my computer more than Mass Effect.
    - Some zones are just your same old grind and repeat quests. Gets old after a while, especially because some quests want you to kill a total of 25 mobs when each one is tough to kill.
    - Some zones feel like they never end and make you want to pull your hair out.
    - Dungeon and PVP experience is kind of... weird. You can spend hours doing dungeons/adventures and feel like you didn't get any xp at all. Same with pvp. At first it seemed great, but now the time to pvp vs the xp gained isn't equaling out.
    - Sometimes you will be questing and suddenly your quest line just ends. I don't know if its a bug or I did something wrong, but multiple times I have been questing and now I am stranded and have to find the quests myself.

I'm tired and hungry, so I am sure I missed out on a lot of stuff but this is a basic overview of the game. It is a solid game, I really freaking enjoy it and I would recommend it to anyone. It has the "great mmo" effect; I get tired of grinding, I log off, but now I suddenly have the urge to play again. It keeps bringing me back. I get tired of doing quests so I craft, then i decorate my house, then I figure ill pvp and before I know it I am questing again. It is a great game. It is very challenging though, so don't expect to launch this game and have your hand held the whole way. You have to actually try and put effort into your character. You aren't going to be AFKing pvp and dungeons in this game.

9/10. Solid game. Would play again... in fact... I am launching it now.

As a long time beta tester of Wildstar let me say this is the best themepark MMO to release since World of Warcraft. It is the most feature packed MMO to date at launch, it is well polished, and well crafted. Even the most basic design decisions from grouping content, to customization have been handled well.

It is hard to fault this game, in any respect that isn't just minor nuscences, personal taste, or an unwillingness to give it a go (which makes up the bulk of negative reviews).

However, the best part of this game isnt in its content, it is in fact found in its content generators. The developers, Carbine Studios. They often say "the devs are listening", and this is more true than most realise. These guys listen to their players, make changes based on feedback, and don't lie or sell half truths to their player base, the final product is more player influenced than any mmo has been, and will continue this trend into the future.

If your looking for a new home, whether your a veteran MMO player or a newbie. Know that the devs plan to look after you and earn your monthly sub.
It is this gamers opinion that this is the first game in a long time to justify its sub, and you only need to research their aggressive post launch plans and extensive and already present Endgame content to see that.

I look forward to many years of wild star to come :)

This is as good a MMO as I have seen at launch. It seems to have tons of content, the leveling curve is interesting, the classes have multiple functions and there never seems to be a lack of things to do. Add that to a visually exciting style with diverse environments, player housing, a remarkable profession system, mini games, and dynamic combat and you have the makings of a great game. This is as good a MMO as I have seen at launch. While it's the subscription model or not, the troll to cool person ratio seems to be pretty good. I like to RP and have found a small community, but even outside of that, there are people who are willing to help just to help.

I can't wait to see where they take the system as it has one of the best foundations I have seen in an MMO yet.

While Wildstar doesn't bring any ground breaking new features to the MMO world, Carbine has definitely made a very feature-full and well rounded MMO for the players.

Everything in the game has been well thought out and crafted with care by the guys and girls at Carbine. They only launched a week ago, which was a very, very smooth launch, especially for MMO standards. I give a 9/10

I give a 9/10 because nothing is perfect, and there is always room for improvement. I would say that game optimization and animations are lacking. There is that jolty, jumpy sling shot type lag right now that will hopefully be ironed out, as most games seem to over time.

The classes are all very cool and have some pretty unique abilities that set them apart from other game's typical warriors and mages. Healing and tanking in group play has been pumped up to a new level, and group play in general has been brought to center of attention.

Great soundtrack, interesting dialogue, deep lore, story, and characters, unique and beautiful artwork/animations. The mix of wild humor and over exaggerations mixed with the seriousness of the main story arc is perfect.

Combat 10/10 - very responsive, fluid, and engaging. Plays much more like a 3rd person action RPG than a typical MMO. Especially with some addons, like Keybindfreedom, and Steer, you can rig your setup to aim with your mouse, and mouse buttons as attacks.

One thing, a minor detail that really stands out in my books is the way you can customize your play style. Everything from HUD and UI customization, to how to interact with the world. You can play it like a hack 'n' slash top down RPG, a 3rd person action RPG, hybrid of the two, or you could even download a crosshair addon and play first person.

    9/10 Carbine, great job!

This MMO gives you so much content yet remembers to not give you everything all at once like many online games have begun to do. I felt lost through my first few levels of play, but I suppose I could choke that up to the hand holding that I am so used to. The active "telegraph" combat system is nice and brings much needed "action" to the normally mundane MMO combat.

As with all online time/money sinks it is up to player taste and I think Wildstar is to sweet to miss.

The most I've enjoyed an MMORPG since the heady days of The Burning Crusade. WildStar has fun combat, a sense of humour and tons of content. Dungeons are long and challenging and even if you don't think you're interested in housing, you will spend days playing with it.
The only reason I haven't given it a 10 is that the game isn't very well optimised yet and I can't run at a steady

I have to say I haven't had an experience like this since playing wow (vanilla) when it launched. I was skeptical but having hit 50 and played all the adventures and dungeons, this game rewards skill and dedication. It will spank you silly if you aren't focused. Sword Maiden silver+ runs are probably the best example of this so far. it hands you nothing for free. You can't get free epic loot without working for it and the legendary gear is a big slog, attunement to raids, 20man, 40man etc.
Graphics are great when you get past some of the performance issues Carbine are hotfixing out. but generally they have had a positive launch, not too many problems. I played wow, swtor, secret world, gw1 and 2 hardcore and I can recommend Wildstar to the real MMO fans. For the casual there is plenty to do and see but don't expect great rewards unless you work for it. Housing - Fantastic.

Carbine never was set to reinvent the wheel. But they put a nice set of custom rims on their vehicle. And then they strapped the whole thing on a space shuttle and send it into space.

For those burnt out on WOW's content, WildStar is easy to endorse. Immediately familiar to anyone who's visited Azeroth and with enough new twists on the tried-and-tested theme park formula, Carbine's game is so overflowing with stuff to do that it's certainly justified in asking for a subscription - even if less people seem prepared to sign up to one.

Wildstar banks on hardcore raid and instance difficulty as well as its excellently implemented "dancing" real time combat mechanic to offer something significantly new and fresh to the MMORPG scene. Low server population and annoying hints of a "Pay To Win More" model hold it back in certain areas, but it has all the potential of becoming a well established and much loved setting for years to come.
