Wildstar is the best thing since TBC and WotLK (up to and including Ulduar, before all the casualization started). It's literally the game that WoW would be if it launched in 2013/14.

Wildstar is the best thing since TBC and WotLK (up to and including Ulduar, before all the casualization started). It's literally the game that WoW would be if it launched in 2013/14.

The questing. Many people complain that Wildstar has bad questing. It's not true. It's the same old questing that every other MMORPG out there has (maybe except of TSW, but I didn't play that game, so I can't voice my opinion). It's just the usual "kill X, gather Y, fetch Z". The difference is that Carbine didn't spend millions of dollars on voice acting (like SWTOR and probably TESO did) that becomes irrelevant after you pass the questing content, instead they spend it on dungeons, raids and developing new content. There is one more difference about questing. Wildstar's questing truly does teach you how to play the game. It's not hardcore experience by any means, but it's infinitely harder than questing in other MMORPGs. By level 50 you have to become a decent player, or you'll just die on every pack of mobs.

There's one annoying thing about questing - challenges. There's just too many of them. Fortunately, you can disable them if you don't want to bother with them.

Alright, I wrote about the questing first, because that's the first thing you do. Now let's talk about combat.

Combat is incredible. WoW has set the new frontier for fluid and responsive combat. No game has matched WoW's combat for 10 years. Well, now it has. Wildstar's combat is just as fluid and responsive. It's also more demanding and engaging, since you have to stay constantly on the move. And don't even get me started on healing - but let's just say there's a reason why healers have pretty much as long queues as dpsers. Spoiler: it's because it's just so damn fun.

Crafting is, generally speaking, great. I'll leave discovering everything about crafting to you, I'll just speak about the only flaw of the system. There's no way to repeat an old craft multiple times, every time you have to manually add the additives. Gets pretty dull if you have to craft, say, 10 of the same item. I'm pretty sure an addon will solve that soon, or Carbine will, given time. This is just a matter of polishing, really.

Now to the best part. Dungeons. Even the entry dungeons are equal to WoW's raids (I'd say they are equal to flex/normal raids in terms of difficulty). They are challenging, they require the whole team to know how to play. They are definitely not Deadmines. And the most important part is - they are just so damn well designed and FUN.

I can't speak for end-game content and PvP, so I'll leave it to the others. I'll just say it again: Wildstar is the new WoW. Whether it will be nearly as successful is to be decided (it probably won't), but it definitely deserves it.

Just try the game and get to level 15 for the first adventure and 20 for dungeons. You'll be amazed, that's guaranteed. This game is not TESO or SWTOR. The hype is real this time. Don't listen to idiots giving Wildstar 1/10 or 0/10.

Game is 100% broken. There are teleporting bots on every server which mine all the minerals. I am not joking about teleporting bots, the are real and Wildstar (just like Guild Wars 2) is overrun with them. Carbine will do NOTHING about this because the bots are paying customers, if they couldn't fix them in GW2, they sure ain't fixin them in Wildstar. Disgraceful game, disgraceful company.

While I really like the graphics and the universe the levelling is quite boring an repetetive which ruins it pretty much. The boss mechanicss of the first 2 dungeons are easy to understand and comprehend and offer no real challege (after 2 deaths everybody should know what to do). The craftig and cooking systems are quite unique and offer a lot of experimentation possiblities.

I tried this game looking for a new MMO. I admit that the art style and childish humor is not my cup of tea but my score is not based of any of that as it would probably appeal to a younger audience.

If you are looking for a MMO identical to all current MMOs but with a Sci-Fi Comic feel to it try this game, but if you are into a more serious MMO focusing on more than rushing to the end game there are better MMO's on the market.

Fighting in this game was rather fun but the rest of the game bogs down into a boring grind. I can see this game having a initial spike at launch due to the hype and a quick decline after a month when people realize its all fluff & no substance

Boring generic MMO in a bright & colorful wrapper.
I was initially excited by this game but the more I played, I realized that there is nothing new on offer here. Boring quests, long queues, bugs and broken mechanics.

Cartoonish mmo, which is really addressed to players up to 12 years old. Plot is non-existent and the whole game has a wow-clone-ish taste. I could stay logged for a maximum time of 2 hours and after that the game was uninstalled from my hdd.

I spent money on this game and cannot play. Why? The game isn't optimized at all, even though it's already launched! If you have a multi-core CPU or one of the CPU's that the Wildstar dev's didn't optimize for then save your money. Wildstar gets anywhere from 10-30 fps with everything turned on low, while games such as SWtoR get 60+ on ultra. The best thing about this game is its tech support. I've honestly never received personal responses so quickly from any game's support team. They were also very honest. What would be the right word to describe this game? Boring.

Fetch quest after fetch quest, unispired dialog and booooring PvE. Combat system seems to be decent enough to give you little enjoyment, but that's it. One of the biggest disappointment in years.

I really wish I could like this game and get to the fun part which I've heard is after level 20. From level 13 to 16 I would log in, level for 20 minutes and log out again because I was bored senseless.

To top this off I really dislike the UI and the lack of simple features that you are used to having in modern games.

On the positive side the combat system did look promising and I liked the crafting system although this too suffered from UI problems.

I played it regularly with friends and even the co-op action didn't help. Maybe it's an MMO for action junkies and for Hardcore people. You choose a side, based on who wears the most stylish uniforms, and are soon dropped into the open world. Where you wander around, doing standard MMO quests- "fetch ten bear's asses for a reward". I didn't play very far through the story, because it's boring and pointless. I honestly don't believe anybody cared once about their story content. This brings me to the combat. The combat is smooth, with GW2-esque style. The combat, in PvE, at least, is passable. O.K. meh. However, after enough of it, it just feels like a grind. The animation style, which... ugh... looks pretty bad, reminds me of borderlands 2 in the worst ways. Come to think of it, it reminds me of BL2 in a lot of ways. Crappy art style, boring quests and garbage storytelling. Also, I didn't finish either.

Interestingly, I never bought this game. I played about ten hours of it in the free 'beta' about a week before release (IE, the full game, but just a trial). And that told me everything I needed to know. Including that there was no way in hell I would fork over $60 and a subscription fee for this. Funny, how this game has a higher rating than ESO, a superior MMO by all means.

Until then DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

-2 pts for seriously bugged main quest line. I mean seriously bugged once you hit the level 40+ world quests. What makes it even more egregious is the poor instructions for the puzzles in the game and then after spending time doing the puzzles you get a bug and have to redo another 30 minutes.

-1 pt for nausea inducing quests. I suffer from vertigo and while doing the Secrets of Nexus in the center room with the rotating green platforms I got physically sick. You would think the developers would realize this and find a better way to create an artificial stupidity to their quest lines rather than this. At least the devs haven't decided to flash colors randomly to induce epileptic seizures in their user base.

-1pt for poorly worded terms of service. Namely, if you use a macro to chain your abilities, something that I've done in EQ, EQ2, WoW, and SWOTOR, it will get you banned. There is extremely poor communication of this bannable offense to the players. A lot of people will get perma banned because the devs decided NOT to educate their user base on their design decision. This -1 is permanent.

This is the first MMO that I have played since UO (and I have played most of them) that I am not motivated to level beyond 15-20. The game is MMbOring and empty. TWO weeks played and I am not motivated or interested in this at all any more. That too is a record - considering I gave SWTOR many solid tries to my dismay.

I have played almost every single MMO that has come out in the last 14 years including the original EQ. I have never had an issue like this with any of them, including when I played other games under NCsoft (Aion and Gw2).

So I have sat here all night tonight wondering what happened. The closest I have come to an answer is that "some" accounts the purchased the game and got charged, and never got the serial codes emailed to them. (I didn't get serial codes in ANY email except a XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-1234 serial code has been used on your account. The irony is that the forum topic under billing that describes this is dated May 31st saying resolved, and here it is June 18th. Their recommendation is for me to buy another copy of the game... LOL HAHAHH! As if I am going to do that with the charges from my last order (June 1st) still sitting on my bank statement.
IF I am able to actually get in and play I will come back and redo this rating but until I can, I have paid for something that is unusable. I'd give it less than 0 if I could.

I have no idea if this game is actually good or not because it freezes and crashes constantly on a system that can easily play other games on High settings (GW2, ESO, WoW, SC2, TSW, D3 to name a few). Carbine rushed this product out the door at the last minute without taking into account that their paying customers had a wide variety of system configurations and now the most popular topic on their forums is "Why won't this game work for me? My system meets the requirements!" Seriously, check it out before you gamble away $60 on this game. If you do buy it, don't be surprised if you're one of the many unlucky people who were dumb enough not to see into the future and know exactly what kind of hardware Carbine would design this game to work on. I have been left with a product that I can't even play for 5 minutes before it crashes so spectacularly that I have to restart my entire computer while in a "major city" (I'm stuck in Thayd, and I can't get out because the game just crashes after I log in!). Before I got stuck in Thayd, I could only get 20+ FPS by turning the resolution and rendering down to the point that everything just turned into a blurry rainbow colored pixelated mess. If you think it's unfair to give this game a 0, ask yourself what score you would give a $60 product that you can't use, but by all rights should be able to play. My system is no slouch, and I bet yours isn't either. Do yourself a favor and research it before you gamble away your money on this game because you might end up like me- down $60 with nothing to show for it. Expand

A sad day indeed that MMORPG's like these try to distinguish themselves under the guise of "skill" when all attacks, powers and spells have these huge, obnoxious targeting boxes, charge-up time and delays.

Even after hours of playing some of the PvP, I always found myself in the situation where I either 1. was spamming the same attacks over and over and over and over again, or 2.

When I play an MMO, I want to feel part of a different world. It's about escaping into something cool. The Nexus was the stalest world I've ever set foot in. When I say bland, I'm not kidding. The quests are boring, the storyline is cliched and unoriginal, and the visuals are marginal.

It does everything else right. The mechanics are solid, and the systems or old but stable and work well. Monsters are a bit tougher since you need to learn to dodge specials, but after a while that becomes routine but tedious. Perhaps I could have gotten over the shortcoming of the game except the grind is something aweful - easily the longest leveling process in any game I've played.

I think the game is geared towards hardcore players that enjoy a very long and tough grind and don't really care about fluff like story or atmosphere.

Combat is cool for a little while. There is no auto attack is not really true. You do have an auto attack but you must aim and cast it constantly. You will be hitting the 1 button 10 to 15 times per mob at higher levels (20 ish). This wasn't horrible as i bound my AA to my mouse thumb button which made strafing and dodging much easier.

The paths system is just another unrewarding grind much like achievements in games.

These are things i could live with in an MMO but were WILDSTAR lost me was in character development.
When you level up in you have no decisions to be made. For those of you who have played diablo 3, leveling in wildstar is like leveling your paragon level in diablo 3 ros. You have very limited options and what options u do have do very little. (4% crit severity). Compounding this is the fact that your rotation for level 2-50 and beyond will be exactly the same for the most part.

The housing system is also top notch and i really liked it but the game play was so boring and uninspired.

Ive played this game about half way thru and felt like i was just as powerful and was doing the same attacks as when i was level 2.

I really like theorycrafting and messing with specs and builds. Wildstars talent andskill tiering is so shallow that they should have just left it out.

GW2 perk system is extremely complex compared to wildstar. im giving a 1/10 to try and make metacritics score more objective. As i type this i see tons of 10/10 reviews from people written on june 3
which is the day it was release LOL

Hell I thought it was amazing the first day as well. Im sure most people will. But i desired more strategic depth and character diversification.

In a nutshell Wildstar is stunning at first but lacks the progression that MMO players desire.

    - Auction house is bugged (I do not use auction house, but that is what I have read on the forum)
    - Buying extended mount is bugged. Buy it but there is no item.
    - Buying storage is bugged. It buys all your gold
    - PVP is full of AFK. People just afk because even they loose, they still have XP and gold.
    - Quest is bugged. At level 35, we cannot continue the main quest (the main way to levelling). So we have to do all the optional quest to get to 60.
    - World bosses are bugged (those bosses are required to be able raid later on).

There are more, but I don't remember all of them. I don't understand why publisher lets the game released while it has full of bugs like that. It shows that dev is carelessly doing their job. I played 2 weeks and I gave up because I wasted at least 4 hours everyday (it is too much for a causal player) to do instances without finish them properly.

Most of AMD card owners do not have huge problems with the game, but even GTX1080 players on onf forums say that they can't even get stable 60FPS... So forget to play the game on 600, 700 or 800 GPU versions. Also instead of fixing code problems they are forcing players to use side guides and changing gamer optimized systems to somehow normally run Wildstar and make all other games unplayable on this systems, also some of that fixes may harm you machine if you don't know what and how to do... So take care. Very strange that Wildstar graphics level game can't run better, even same like Black Desert or Star Citizen... (some funboys say that Wildstar have Better graphics than Black Desert or Star Citizen... Happen... O.o)
Graphics are way old for resource consumption, even Legion expansion provides same level graphics with very low resource usage, will say nothing how far Wildstar is from WoW.
But ideas of the game on lunch was cool and really fun, but all even live features (don't wait new ones at all) are cutted off and optimized for very low online Steam helps a little to increase player base, but anyway there are very low number of players who play it.
Can't say do not try it, maybe you will like it, cos game still have nice ART and still left some interesting features, but game which developers don't want to fix 2-3 years old problems and make game somehow playable for its level can't be scored by me. Meanwhile combat is slow, quests are boring, there's absolutely nothing that is new except nominally, and once again NCSOFT is providing the worst customer support in existence.

Unsurprisingly the game went free-to-play within moments of its release, as will be the case for most MMOs from here on out, along with mechanics that increasingly resemble freemium phone games such as 20 different currencies from 20 different sources, AFK passive gameplay, data mining, daily DLC that requires more research than investments, over-emphasis on copying video games from the early 2000s, deceptive marketing that makes the product almost indistinguishable from a more successful competitor, utterly cluttered user interfaces, and, of course, a much higher price hidden behind exploitative marketing tactics.

Thank you o NCSOFT for this blessing (turd) you have bestowed upon the MMORPG market. Now bring back City of Heroes or sell it already.

REVISITING THE REVIEW IN 2020: support was indeed discontinued in 2018. Wow, who could have guessed? It's as though I'm more familiar with the workings of NCSOFT than the people who rated my review.

For those burnt out on WOW's content, WildStar is easy to endorse. Immediately familiar to anyone who's visited Azeroth and with enough new twists on the tried-and-tested theme park formula, Carbine's game is so overflowing with stuff to do that it's certainly justified in asking for a subscription - even if less people seem prepared to sign up to one.

Wildstar banks on hardcore raid and instance difficulty as well as its excellently implemented "dancing" real time combat mechanic to offer something significantly new and fresh to the MMORPG scene. Low server population and annoying hints of a "Pay To Win More" model hold it back in certain areas, but it has all the potential of becoming a well established and much loved setting for years to come.
