I was looking for something like CoH, at least as far as the community. There really is little need to team up, except for the dungeons, which are decent. Definitely feels like too much of a grind and not very satisfying. City of Heroes fans,,, keep waiting.

There are so many quests in each zone, that i skip half of them. Quests are divided by category (story quests, fetching quests...etc.) you can choose to do what you like

This MMORPG is so generic and typical in all aspects you really don't miss out anything if you don't play it. If you choose to do so, you will have a fair amount of fun (at least for the first, free month). But I can't see any reason to actually subscribe to it, unless it's exactly what you are looking for (a generic, typical Themepark grindfest with no real soul).

    BTW: don't get fooled

BTW: don't get fooled thinking this game is somewhat more "hardcore" than anything else out there. It's not. Sure, you can die way faster in Wildstar due to many merciless, one-hit mechanics. But in the end it's the same **** like in any other MMO you've played so far. If you don't have problems memorizing the movement in other games, there's really not much difference here. It's simply an annoyance thing, not an evolution in game mechanics ....

Im hooked like a small kid (and i'm 30+), the game is enjoyable, quests are tons, clear, varied and never boring.
Content is not faceroll, it gives a challenge, mechanics are awesome, combat / pointing system is innovative, clear and fun.
Challenge Modes are fun and usually linked wiht quest objectives, and they give useful rewards, from the housing decor to bags, to gear with your class proficiency.
Few quests are for 2+ or even 3+ players (usually 1-2 x zone), and it's seriously easy to find a partner (or 2) to do those prime (elite) minibosses, because there's always some player around you or close that is happy to hop in your group and help you out.
Playerbase x server is big, but they not overcrowded to the point you cant find quest objectives/mobs.

There's already over 400 (411 at the moment) AddOns with the game old 1 month only. on Curse website, allowing you to really customize totally (wow style) your game in any way, from the smallest thing to the total UI restyle.

Carbine is active on ban exploiters/botters (and you can feel it while playing), they answer really fast if you submit a ticket (or even a bot report), they release patches and hotfixes on regular basis.
Forums are full of guides and tips.

This game can really shine like wow long time ago.

Very engaging - fun and addictive. The combat system involves a lot of highly active play, and like FFXIV combines the good sides of Guild Wars 2 telegraphing / mobility with the 'roles' systems of Everquest / WoW. The combat system involves a lot of highly active play, and like FFXIV combines the good sides of Guild Wars 2 telegraphing / mobility with the 'roles' systems of Everquest / WoW. Where FFXIV was slow paced and predictable in telegraphs to move out of, Wildstar's are all over the place, come in fast, and require a split second choice between dodging and trying to interrupt.

Each of the six classes has two roles to choose from: damage and then either tank or healer.
Unlike most other MMOs, healing here is very much about being fast, mobile, and keeping an eye on the battle - there is no grid of moles to whack. All attacks, buffs, and healing are area based effects that impact anyone inside the area they are cast into.

Two of the three tanking options seem taken directly from player wish lists of past MMOs: The stealthing tank, and the ranged pet tank. The third is your standard heavy armor sword and laser cannon tank.

The visuals are stunningly engaging and highly cartoonish. Even clouds in the sky resemble old Saturday morning cartoon clouds. Even when the game starts to get really serious, the cartoons do it with style and a toss to humor.

The dungeon content is truly challenging, and built with an eye towards players who enjoy them for that challenge rather than as a 'gold farming / leveling time sink.'

Unlike a number of recent MMOs, there are no dynamic world events, and no auto-scaling as you return to older zones - this is my only major criticism, as it means lower level content will empty out over time. Given the very high number of group focused enemies and tasks even in the initial zones of play - this may cause some issues down the road.

But beyond that, it is stunningly fun.

Characters have a vast array of individual customization options - being able to change skills and specialization bonuses on the fly.

Costumes are there from the beginning, letting you tailor the appearance of your character early on to exactly the look you desire.

Player Housing... becomes its own game. With all sorts of tools to customize your plot of land. And the plots of land are not some thing you need to keep paying to keep or shell out massive funds to get. Its given to you at level 14 (of 50), a few hours into play - and is yours to keep. You can put stylish homes on it, build a forest, plop down a mini-dungeon that you won elsewhere in the game, place private resource spots for crafting, and so on.

And crafting too, is highly customizable. You assemble needed ingredients, and then dial in the bonuses / quality you want, and attempt to craft. Boost it up too much and you risk a crafting failure, consuming the ingredients. But dial it down, and you can be guaranteed a sure thing.

This is an MMO that should withstand the test of time. All the right elements are there.

The usual launch issues of gold farmers and curious bugs are there - but those will be sorted out soon.

After playing Wildstar for a couple hours I've realized that I'm not looking at the game world at all. My vision got tunneled. In combat I'm looking at the telegraphs. While questing every clickable object has shiny icon on top of it. So all I do is run from one shiny icon to another. The bright world style and the full screen bloom effect doesn't help either.

Wildstar is a really great game. It did not reinvent the wheel, but really outmatch any other MMO's I have played. The telegraph did a HUGE different in the playstyle, making the combat and mechanics far better than WoW for example.

Everything is customizable and I like there is many different means to aquire stuff. Money of course, but also crafting vouchers, elder points, renown etc.
Those are all different means to aquire loot, mounts, costumizatons etc.

Although the game still have a few bugs, some of which can be irritating at time, but it has so much to offer that it fully compensate for its flaws. NCSOFT also promises a lot of content regularly, and the strain patch is an excellent example of this.

The overall look and humor of this game make it stand out and definitely deserve a look.

Now lets get to the review. I have played mmo's my whole life, played wow like most of you. This game takes all the things you like from wow and puts the challenge back into it. The stat theory crafting and pve feel rewarding when you accomplish something. The ravegraphs as everyone is complaining about make you actually involved in the boss fight instead of just looking at action bars and casting timers. The game actually looks amazing on ultra as well. The pvp of course need to get balanced, but thats something that never gets perfected.
Pros: Classes all have tank/heal + dps specs
    housing is amazing
crafting actually matters again for some of the best items
challenging pve content (what i have to get attuned again)
armor dye and well as costuming
content monthly to justify 15 a month
    fun and fresh combat system
    cons
the leveling sucks as in every mmo now, but honestly how are you gonna justify leveling in a mmo.. so stop complaining about fetch quest after fetch quest.
the ui does need a lot of work
couple of bugs still that need fixing

last but not least the game has been out a month stop hating on stuff that took wow 10 years + 12million subscribers to become a perfect game. this game is on the right path already

Until then DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

-2 pts for seriously bugged main quest line. I mean seriously bugged once you hit the level 40+ world quests. What makes it even more egregious is the poor instructions for the puzzles in the game and then after spending time doing the puzzles you get a bug and have to redo another 30 minutes.

-1 pt for nausea inducing quests. I suffer from vertigo and while doing the Secrets of Nexus in the center room with the rotating green platforms I got physically sick. You would think the developers would realize this and find a better way to create an artificial stupidity to their quest lines rather than this. At least the devs haven't decided to flash colors randomly to induce epileptic seizures in their user base.

-1pt for poorly worded terms of service. Namely, if you use a macro to chain your abilities, something that I've done in EQ, EQ2, WoW, and SWOTOR, it will get you banned. There is extremely poor communication of this bannable offense to the players. A lot of people will get perma banned because the devs decided NOT to educate their user base on their design decision. This -1 is permanent.

Aside from the bugs, this game is really fun. I am level 50 for 2 weeks now and I am working on my attunement. The endgame dungeons are very challenging, and it feels great doing the runs with my guild and we feel accomplished every time we manage to finish something. For once, I found an MMO challenging again.

I love the customization in your house, mount and clothing. The world story is also pretty dark in my opinion, so don´t be fooled by the looks of this game. There is a lot of cool lore to be found, but you need to look for it. My tip: read/listen to every data cube. The Eldan are some interesting aliens :)

    - Graphics look polished and the "overall" atmossphere of the game feel very polished - if you like the comic style
    - Sound was mostly good, though music was really annoying in some areas
    - Tons of possibilities to sink time into (skill trees, talents etc)
    - Tons of itemization slots
    - Focus on multiplayer experiences

Some need it, some do not:

    - Questionable release features like housing
    - Introduction of gamble elements into crafting (woah, I see FTP incoming)

    Negative:

    - Both tutorials and starting areas are not very imaginative. Especially the imperial start was boring as hell.
    - Mini quest boxes with walls of texts and no synchro (or some random sentences)
    - Quest hubbing is soooo 2007... and for a western mmo it starts feeling like a grind fest early on with the quests becoming increasingly boring and highly (kill that many of X) like - while at the same time the game annoys some highly disgusting mini mini games
    - World felt extremly generic - In my opinion one of the worst flaws of the game. Together with a non-existent coherent story (apart from "ow we found Nexus! And now we are here and fight... the others) the game does not manage to actually "draw" you in, zero immersion.
    - Animations often way too comicy and actually "overdone" - at one point it became really annoying to watch the hopping and sliding of my character waggling with every limb like some electro-shocked cat

    Fazit:

If you like fuzzy looking MMOs in comic style, a more action based combat system, tons (and tons, and tons) of features and the promise of a fleshed out end game experience, you should give it a try.
If you actually want to have fun playing - say, the first 40 hours of the game - you might want to skip it and go for other games that really offer a unique experience, like The secret world. Maybe they introduce a "skip leveling" button soon.

Horrible UI, horrible **** battleground pvp and lacking any tactics, the classes have bugs that still stand to this day.

The talent system is retarded. It seems some of the most important talents aren't gotten through leveling but through some low rate dropping items. Especially if you play a Spellslinger you will run into this: spellslingers have a really important talent called Trigger Fingers, now this thing is given by an item with a very low world drop rate and an insane price in the auctionhouse. Good luck with that.

My highest character level is 22, it's the highest level I was able to reach in this horrible game. I just entered the Whitevale map, looked at it and said to myself "You know what, **** this!" and deleted the game.

I see the servers went from heavy (the prime servers) to moderate and even low these days and I'm expecting server mergers really soon. Yeah, there goes another "wow killer". Too bad, the game did get a lot of the right ideas but the execution is poor.

Let me start by saying that anybody that gave this game a 0 is a WoW or ESO fanboy that has never tried the game. I looked at most of their review history, and they either had no other reviews or WS zero and ESO rated as a ten. Granted I only played ESO during beta, but it wasn't for me. That being said, I wouldn't give it a 0 (maybe a 5 in late closed beta, but I am not going to go rate it without a honest amount of time invested). Don't listen to the trolls.

Now for the actual review, short and sweet:

Let's start with the bad... The questing, like most MMOs if you have played a bunch of MMOs, can get boring (thousands of hours in WoW speaking). There are a lot of bugs, but that is understandable for a game this large and new. Most importantly, the optimization of their engine blows, my good computer doesn't run it nearly as well as it should (but even then it is completely playing and normally not noticeable). There are some other negative aspects, but I want to point out the major pros/cons.

Now for why you should buy Wildstar. It is plain fun... the humor, the beauty, the story line and lore, all great. The single best part of WS though, is the combat. Having dynamic battles where you need to dodge enemy attacks, and maneuver yourself into the correct position to attack is brilliant. After about level 15 or so, no fight is a cakewalk and you can die if you get lazy. I also love that dungeons are extremely challenging. I am a bit of a masochist, so the joy of beating a ultra-hard boss for the first time after wiping multiple times is one of my favorite rewards. Finally, the housing system is much more fun than I thought it would be. Being able to do whatever you want with items you find throughout the world to make your character unique has been a surprising bonus, that I didn't think I would enjoy nearly as much as I do.

Let me finish by saying that I am not a hardcore player, but MMORPGs have always been my favorite games. I have been playing them since the launch of EQ, where you would fight a random mob, and site for minutes to get your health back. I played WoW for more than I would like to admit (who hasn't). That being said I honestly believe that this will be the game that overtakes WoW, and I am excited to be a part of it from the start. I am giving this a 9 based on the belief of what I think it will become, but cannot truthfully give it a 10 with the problems it has at the present.

The new housing is okay. The paths were a great idea. I was interested in the settler as I like to help others. But after gathering mats, and finding out the areas to place things were shared with other Settlers, it got old fast.

They tried with the combat system, but other MMO's have done the same system already. It's tough as they are trying to fix MMO's by adjusting the combat, but it just feels like rip offs of old console games. Just not nearly as well done. If your using a regular mouse it seemed way to click heavy. If you have a gamer mouse it will feel like a massive cheat.

I found the game world to seem very small. Smaller than most of the new MMO's and that is small. And like most MMO's these days, you almost feel punished for grouping. Unless it is a raid or instance. You simply have to kill 100 times more mobs just to make the same amount of XP and money.

In short there's nothing game breaking for me. It's just not good enough to keep my attention. And certainly nothing I would recommend to other MMO fans.

I give it an average rating, but all the new MMO games, I've tried just aren't that good.

First Id like to say if you go on to review any game and just give it a zero because you think its cool your lame. A zero would be a game that's so broken there is no way it could be played. There is no simple auto attack you must aim watch your cool downs and time your attacks. The game has a very funny laid back vibe kinda has a borderlands feel. Crafting is a nice tight system that will be easy for anyone who play's MMO's to jump into. The housing system is top notch and I haven't had this much freedom since SWG you get your own plot of land in the sky you can build hundreds of things on your land. Want to garden got it personal mine got it, crafting table got it, a train full of hobo's got that to. If you like MMO's enjoy raiding, pvp, building your own place ine the world Wildstar will wrap you up in its arms and love you back. The game has some bug still they do updates and server maintenance almost daily and are working very hard to get the game at 100%. They have already had a much better launch then most MMO's and are doing large wave bans to get rid of bots and hackers. The game is top notch with your normal launch bugs but is fast on its way to a 10 in the MMO world. Do yourself a favor and get wildstar see you on Nexus. Expand

Game is 100% broken. There are teleporting bots on every server which mine all the minerals. I am not joking about teleporting bots, the are real and Wildstar (just like Guild Wars 2) is overrun with them. Carbine will do NOTHING about this because the bots are paying customers, if they couldn't fix them in GW2, they sure ain't fixin them in Wildstar. Disgraceful game, disgraceful company.

Wildstar made MMO's fun again with what seems to be looking at what was good about Vanilla and BC WoW and building on it further. The telegraphing system brings a real-time and skill element that is missing in most MMO's and may have just re-invigorated my interest in the genre!

This game is lucky that it is an original IP. It is just the same bug riddled, unfinished, unoptimized, bot laden dribble that MMO developers have been passing off as finished products the past few years.

Had this game been called Star Wars: Wildstar or The Elder Scrolls Online: Wildstar, it would have received the same harsh criticism those games got.

    - Buying extended mount is bugged. Buy it but there is no item.
    - Buying storage is bugged. It buys all your gold
    - PVP is full of AFK. People just afk because even they loose, they still have XP and gold.
    - Quest is bugged. At level 35, we cannot continue the main quest (the main way to levelling). So we have to do all the optional quest to get to 60.
    - World bosses are bugged (those bosses are required to be able raid later on).

There are more, but I don't remember all of them. I don't understand why publisher lets the game released while it has full of bugs like that. It shows that dev is carelessly doing their job. I played 2 weeks and I gave up because I wasted at least 4 hours everyday (it is too much for a causal player) to do instances without finish them properly.

The pve content in Wildstar is not difficult, it is different then other games so it is something to get used to but it is not that difficult that you need to be a "no lifer" to be able to raid.

It is however more difficult then most content you would see in Wildstars direct competitor World of Warcraft while leveling.

I would suggest really to find a guild while leveling just to make sure you can have a group you can talk to on voice comms to make the content go easier.

As for raiding, i can not first hand tell you if that is really that easy or difficult that is something that has yet to be seen and something someone can see from watching streams.

As for the questing, this is pretty standard just a basic simple questing system.
You go to a questgiver who gives a quest and you kill some mobs, nothing special here without giving to many spoilers.

    3. Graphics

Carbine has chosen to go with a comic like graphics with this game, whatever their reasons are or were this is not really that important.
It does however not look good for a game that runs so slow on high end pc's and is released in 2014.

Optimization of the game engine is another part where Carbine has really failed in trying to score some points.
Many people have been reporting issue during the beta and are still reporting issues about having poor fps on high end pc's

When reporting Carbine support about this they are very eager in placing the blame at the client and not by themselfs.

    4. Others.

Oops, forgot i have nothing to mention here ^^

    5. Conclusion

Wildstar is a pretty standard mmo, nothing special apart from their telegraph system.
If you would buy it just remember that you are probably going to run into some key issues with your class.
The score of 6 that i gave is because the game is nothing special and it is a score it deserves, it has many faults which should have been fixed before launch which are unforgivable.
If i would suggest anyone to buy this ? not for the first few months.

If you can wait with playing a new mmo 2 or 3 months i suggest you do that and see how the game evolves and how active the community stays.
If you really are to eager to buy Wildstar i suggest you look at some streams on twitch, they often have discounts to buy this game for a decent price.

This is where i end my review on Wildstar, hopefully you enjoyed reading it and any tips you can send me a message on twitch.

A sad day indeed that MMORPG's like these try to distinguish themselves under the guise of "skill" when all attacks, powers and spells have these huge, obnoxious targeting boxes, charge-up time and delays.

Even after hours of playing some of the PvP, I always found myself in the situation where I either 1. was spamming the same attacks over and over and over and over again, or 2.

The combat is different enough and works well enough to class it as a refreshing change. The story again I couldn't care less about it, maybe that's because I play games like RuneScape and LOTRO which has amazing story content, but yeah the wildstar story never gripped me during my time with the game.

Overall It's worth a look if you're an MMO player just to test it out, but I personally see Wildstar as a secondary MMO something I'd turn to when I get bored of grinding in my main MMOs, it's like the Chromebook of the MMO world.

Some are passive in that they don't require you to actively collect the materials (Yey no more skinning). Crafting materials are stored seperately from your bags with no limit, so no need to worry about conserving space. Each profession has "achievements" that build up to grant you talent points in that specific profession. These can consist of lowering failure rate, better chance of rune slots, etc.

Combat : No more face rolling enemies. The telegraph system that highlights the range of their special abilities requires you to be reactive, and to try to avoid as much damage as possible. Most enemies will have a combo of sorts that do tremendous damage, but can easily be learned to be more efficient at defeating them.

Dungeons/Adventures : Bored with 5 minute heroic runs like WoW? Then you are in for a treat. Bosses, and even some of the trash packs can be difficult to overcome. Adventures literally mean an adventure taking up to almost an hour to finish. Instead of a linear dungeon, you will have the chance to pick what scenario you want to pursue. A bunch of rebels are being held captive? Or some farms being terrorized? You get to vote amongst your 4 party members what you will do. Regular dungeons will scale you level down to when you first unlocked it. Think of this as challenge mode in WoW where all your gear is brought down to a 463 item level. No more power housing through with a level 50 player to carry you.

Player Housing : I really didn't know what to think of it at first other than some random place you could visit at your leisure. As you progress and find new things to add to your decor, you will get certain benefits. You can have your own crafting station for your professions, a dedicated node for a particular profession, or just items that increase the amount of rested experience you accrue such as a bed, couch, etc. There are also mini-games that are associated with what you place on your land as well.

Quests : It does have the standard kill this many, collect this much, or go here and there. The interesting part here is that it isn't based upon how many. Instead it is percentage based so that the harder difficulty the enemy is will give you a higher percentage of credit. You have your standard enemies, but there is also tough, and "elite" enemies. There are a handful of goofy quests for comic relief that lighten the atmosphere to show that the game is about having a good time.

Abilities/Talents : Abilities come in 3 seperate categories depending on their function. These abilities can be further improved by allocating a point in them to make them more effective. At levels 25 and 45 you unlock a Tier for them that gives them a special benefit. Wildstar did make it a point at customization, and you can easily swap out your abilities and any points allocated to them by simply removing them from your bar. You just leveled and purchased a new ability that is more effective? Then go ahead and remove that starter spell and put all those awesome points to make that new ability that much stronger. The talent system (AMP) has 3 tiers. The 1st tier only requires one AMP point to allocate, but the 2nd tier requires 4, and the 3rd tier requires 6. Some are available immediately, but some require the use of an AMP that can be dropped by enemies, somewhat akin to Glyphs from WoW. Unlike WoW though, these can unlock profound abilities that can bolster your current role/play style immensely.

Wildstar overall is not exactly innovative, but still a refreshing change of pace. One thing that many players miss is the sense of accomplishment when you get something done. If you have played WoW (Which who are we kidding is most of us), you could consider this an alternate universe of the Burning Crusade/Wrath of the Lich King era. The difficulty is there, the investment that is required pays off, and after it is said and done. You feel like a boss. In otherwords if you miss what WoW used to be, then I would strongly recommend giving it a chance.

Difficult content is rewarding content.

The hard-to-define sense of adventure is very much present. World, zones feel alive and full of surprises. It is little unfortunate how first few hours of game feel quite uninspired in comparsion to what comes next. I almost dismissed the game after 2-4 hours. The art and environment is simply beautiful and even dynamic. The art is somewhat cartoon-y, but it has various colors and lighting that immerses you in the world of Nexus. Also, all zones have hazards such as man-eating plants, sand tornadoes, toxicity clouds, falling meteors, etc.

The dungeons are very challenging, but rewarding. The combat style is much more intense than that of open world combat. I have wiped many times on the first dungeon. There are bosses that require a different strategy for different parties. None of these dungeons are "tank-n-spank". You simply cannot afk (idle) and expect someone to carry you to win the fight. Tanks cannot just tank, dps cannot just dps, and healers cannot just heal. They all have to learn to adapt to the enemy abilities and combat. If you lose one player, the fight becomes much more challenging.

Housing. Housing is by far one of the best aspects of the game. I have never dug into housing before in other MMOs sans this one. The amount of customization is astounding. You can add air conditioning to your room, open bars outside, and even change the sky and lighting of your very own plot of land in the sky. The cool part is that housing decorations give bonuses to your exp, known as rest exp.

I ended up spending 5 days in game leveling to the level cap. Most MMOs i can hit the level cap in no more than 2 days of grinding. The warplot 40v40 pvp, the housing plots, the 40v40 raids, the dungeon and raids actually take skill over gear. If you dont play this your missing out, Wildstar is going to dethrone WoW.

Wildstar has a vast amount of content for a newly released game and certainly delivers on every aspect.
It's gameplay is fast paced and fluid and will require more attention than you normally would need for an mmo.
It also feels and plays like a traditional MMO, making the obvious comparison to that other hugely popular MMO that came out 10 years ago, wildstar makes you feel "the same"

Unlike many others that came after ."That MMO", that were heavily based upon their IP names and failed to deliver a great and satisfying experience in the long run, wildstar delivers just what everyone pretty much wanted from an MMO, hence it's "lack of originality". But do not let this deceive you, it's that same aspect that makes this game a great MMO, since it feels and plays like what the community established as an MMO.
I suggest you give this a go if you were ever into mmorpgs in the past, it will definitely keep you engaged for years to come.

You can't get free epic loot without working for it and the legendary gear is a big slog, attunement to raids, 20man, 40man etc.
Graphics are great when you get past some of the performance issues Carbine are hotfixing out. but generally they have had a positive launch, not too many problems. I played wow, swtor, secret world, gw1 and 2 hardcore and I can recommend Wildstar to the real MMO fans. For the casual there is plenty to do and see but don't expect great rewards unless you work for it. Housing - Fantastic.

I WAS very excited about this game, until the lack of customer service ruined it for me. After 2 weeks of logging in and hoping the game would 'grow' on me, I was suddenly not able to anymore (even though my credit card had been charged for mine AND wife's copy). There is no phone number to call. NONE. You "get" to use this lame 'file a ticket' system. I have played almost every single MMO that has come out in the last 14 years including the original EQ. I have never had an issue like this with any of them, including when I played other games under NCsoft (Aion and Gw2).

So I have sat here all night tonight wondering what happened. The closest I have come to an answer is that "some" accounts the purchased the game and got charged, and never got the serial codes emailed to them. (I didn't get serial codes in ANY email except a XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-1234 serial code has been used on your account. The irony is that the forum topic under billing that describes this is dated May 31st saying resolved, and here it is June 18th. Their recommendation is for me to buy another copy of the game... LOL HAHAHH! As if I am going to do that with the charges from my last order (June 1st) still sitting on my bank statement.
IF I am able to actually get in and play I will come back and redo this rating but until I can, I have paid for something that is unusable. I'd give it less than 0 if I could.

Wildstar is the new MMO I have been waiting for. It brings MMO to a whole new level with big changes in the combat and questing system.
The game, its self, is already insane good - but it also got potential for more content later on - it's what we pay the developers for!
Keep it up, Wildstar, and win all MMO-lovers heart

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wildstar has some good design elements, but also a slew of poor design decisions. On the plus side: the art and animation are good quality, but the designs tend to be goofy. Housing is very nice, maybe the best part of the game, if you're into housing.

On the minus side: Controls can be awkward, since there is no auto attack. Multi-tap skills are just a bad idea. Combat is repetitive and spammy, similar to the Secret World. Some of the quests are just stupid, such as the initial Save the Sentient Vegetables quest in the game intro. Paths aren't too in-depth, just a little bit of add-on skills and gameplay. The UI is still a real mess and needs consolidation. Challenges get annoying when already busy with another task, or even another challenge. The game also gets boring in a hurry.

I'll go with the pros and cons of this game according to me

Cons 1)Questing. Pure questing in the game is boring and it brings to my mind games of past decades or modern f2p ones. From the Age of Conan and beyond some mmorpg games tried to get rid of the endless fetch quests. Wildstar brings them back. Questing feels a lot like WoW so old school MMO players may dig it. ESO questing

From the Age of Conan and beyond some mmorpg games tried to get rid of the endless fetch quests. Wildstar brings them back. Questing feels a lot like WoW so old school MMO players may dig it. ESO questing was a lot lot better

    2) Optimization : I could run games like Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, ESO and many more at high settings with 40-60 fps. In Wildstar i run the game with an average of 20 FPS at medium. If i compare it with ESO which is a recent mmo, there i had around 40-50 at high settings in every area but crowded cities and mass pvp ( 100 people and more)

    3) Some major class bugs. Even though the game had quite a smooth launch there are quite a few bugs in the class i play. I play engineer. 20-30% of the skills are not working properly and tons of them have hit detection issues especially in pvp. I can't talk for the other classes though.

    4) Path system is weak. It's a good innovation but right now it adds almost nothing in the game.

    Good things

1)Dungeons. If you like Dungeons this game is for you. By far the most satisfying dungeons you can find in an mmo game.

    2) Wonderful art direction.

3)Interesting classes. Yes there are bugs, yes some of them luck visuals but at the end of the day you're gonna have trouble picking a class because almost all of them are fun. Even if i don't have a high level warrior, if you are into warrior dps wildstar managed to make the most dull class in MMO games actually FUN.

4)Smooth launch at the part of pve content. Even though as i said there is poor optimization and some class bugs, pve content is really smooth.

    5) Housing is awesome

Who should play this game? People who enjoy being in a guild 'cause the quality content of the game is made for guilds. Old school mmorpg players who don't mind tons of fetch quests and people who enjoy dungeons and raids. If you plan to play solo you better stay away.

I tend to play MMO’s as a drifter: roll in, pick up some quests, do some, skip others, get distracted en route to the next one. I rarely read quests texts and just go where the arrow points and hit what’s marked for me by the quest tracker. I don’t care about completing anything unless I have to do.

I get ganked. Return the favor. Help out a /zone request, get in a random raid trying for a world boss achievement. Stand around doing nothing, enjoying music and the general sound stage of the location, then veer off for a spot of resource gathering. Queue a battleground on a whim, then leave to take naked pics on a mountain.

I love to play the auction house, especially in a game where everyone’s new, with some selling stuff below vendor price. Get rich. Spent a ton on vanity (it’s all vanity, in any case, ask my buddy Marcus Tullius). I love to help out randoms, or choose to watch them gain a repair bill – random kindness is random.

I love fast, fast combat with a careful selection of skills in my bar, with constant repositioning and aiming and a nice spray of loot for my troubles.

And I’m up for getting my ass handed in any dungeon a couple of times, to bask in the pay-off of eternal, virtual and meaningless (but highly satisfying) glory. Wipes fill me with glee and determination.

I love messy world pvp - Aurins. Must. Die.

    Wildstar is my game.

They know what they're doing and it shows. Rather than making yet another WoW clone, they took what really worked in WoW, ditched some of the annoyances, changed up the combat, and created a unique universe that may have a familiar art style, but also a very unique and magical feel. It's the first time I've felt that same sense of magic since the old days of WoW. To be honest, this is the game that I was hoping Star Wars: The Old Republic would be. A sci-fi MMO that gives you a seamless, vast open world and doesn't take itself too seriously.

The only other worthy competitor currently on the market is Final Fantasy XIV, but since it is more of a story-driven game and thus very different from WS or WoW, I don't think it should be compared to either of them. It has succeeded in its own way and caters to those who are turned off by WoW-style (cartoony, less story-driven) MMOs. In short, WildStar and FFXIV is where it's at.

I have no idea if this game is actually good or not because it freezes and crashes constantly on a system that can easily play other games on High settings (GW2, ESO, WoW, SC2, TSW, D3 to name a few). Carbine rushed this product out the door at the last minute without taking into account that their paying customers had a wide variety of system configurations and now the most popular topic on their forums is "Why won't this game work for me? My system meets the requirements!" Seriously, check it out before you gamble away $60 on this game. If you do buy it, don't be surprised if you're one of the many unlucky people who were dumb enough not to see into the future and know exactly what kind of hardware Carbine would design this game to work on. I have been left with a product that I can't even play for 5 minutes before it crashes so spectacularly that I have to restart my entire computer while in a "major city" (I'm stuck in Thayd, and I can't get out because the game just crashes after I log in!). Before I got stuck in Thayd, I could only get 20+ FPS by turning the resolution and rendering down to the point that everything just turned into a blurry rainbow colored pixelated mess. If you think it's unfair to give this game a 0, ask yourself what score you would give a $60 product that you can't use, but by all rights should be able to play. My system is no slouch, and I bet yours isn't either. Like others have said, combat is a refreshing change of pace. Nice to have a bit more action as compared to WoW.

I guess my only criticism at this point is that I wish there was more starting areas (i.e. each race getting its own starting area).

As for the subscription fee, $15 / month seems nominal for some casual fun. I'd rather pay a small, flat monthly fee to encourage them to develop/invest in regular new content.

I have tried to like the game, I really did, especially since I have nothing else to play these days, so you can't accuse me of not giving it a chance.

This game is one of these MMOs that get the right idea about how the perfect MMO should be like. Unfortunately they got only about 80% of that idea, and the rest of the 20% - the part where they messed it up, kinda broke it for me.

I don't like the UI. I don't like how you are forced to hold the RMB to do anything in the game. Sure, there are addons that the game is built around the thought that you will not use any such addon to hide the cursor. Let's just say that the 1000 time you suspend an addon so the cursor appears on the screen, becomes really annoying to do.

I don't like the pvp mechanics. It's all a **** of telegraphs. There are no tactics, no aoe ccs that matter, healers are immortal unless focused by more than 3 people, and melee are screwed as ranged classes reign supreme.
Considering pvp is really important to me, this is the first time in any of the MMOs that I have played, where I don't like playing battlegrounds. This is saying quite a lot, tbh.

Leveling by questing. UTTER BOREDOM! I mean it. I didn't think questing can be even more boring than Elder Scrolls Online's questing but apparently it can. I can't take it and I'm not an impatient person. I have leveled about 6 characters to level 16 and the same thing happened everytime - I just couldn't go on anymore. No way am I going to make it to max level if the level 15 questing area makes me think that watching paint dry could be more fun.

Housing. I'm sorry but I REALLY don't care about this feature. If you do, ok, but I don't.

In conclusion, this game is...MEH! Same as ESO. It's better than ESO, ofcourse, in many aspects, but at the end of the day it fails just as much. It's not a bad game and the devs put a lot of effort into it but unfortunately some poor development decisions were taken along the way.

When Wildstar launched, I was concerned that I will have difficulties choosing between Wildstar and Warlords of Draenor but now, after 2 weeks of playing it seriously, I have decided that it's not going to be an issue for me anymore.

PS: "But why are you making a review if you didn't even play it to end game?". Well tbh, if a game doesn't even motivate me to get past even level 20, then I don't see why I should put up with the pain of leveling in hopes of some promised land to be found at max level, especially since since core mechanics and features bother me, and these are not going to change at max level obviously.

Combat is cool for a little while. There is no auto attack is not really true. You do have an auto attack but you must aim and cast it constantly. You will be hitting the 1 button 10 to 15 times per mob at higher levels (20 ish). This wasn't horrible as i bound my AA to my mouse thumb button which made strafing and dodging much easier.

The paths system is just another unrewarding grind much like achievements in games.

These are things i could live with in an MMO but were WILDSTAR lost me was in character development.
When you level up in you have no decisions to be made. For those of you who have played diablo 3, leveling in wildstar is like leveling your paragon level in diablo 3 ros. You have very limited options and what options u do have do very little. (4% crit severity). Compounding this is the fact that your rotation for level 2-50 and beyond will be exactly the same for the most part.

The housing system is also top notch and i really liked it but the game play was so boring and uninspired.

Ive played this game about half way thru and felt like i was just as powerful and was doing the same attacks as when i was level 2.

I really like theorycrafting and messing with specs and builds. Wildstars talent andskill tiering is so shallow that they should have just left it out.

GW2 perk system is extremely complex compared to wildstar. im giving a 1/10 to try and make metacritics score more objective. As i type this i see tons of 10/10 reviews from people written on june 3
which is the day it was release LOL

Hell I thought it was amazing the first day as well. Im sure most people will. But i desired more strategic depth and character diversification.

In a nutshell Wildstar is stunning at first but lacks the progression that MMO players desire.

i had lots of fun playing the first 20 lvl. but after that the grind and other stuff i dont like about MMO and reminds me why i have quit playing wow.
to me this is certainly a better wow, but nothing ground breaking for me to stay.

if you are exhausted from wow and looking for similar alternative, you should try this

This MMO gives you so much content yet remembers to not give you everything all at once like many online games have begun to do. The active "telegraph" combat system is nice and brings much needed "action" to the normally mundane MMO combat.

As with all online time/money sinks it is up to player taste and I think Wildstar is to sweet to miss.

AMAZING. The combat style is amazing, the housing feature is a really good feature of this game, the quests are a bit grindy but I can overlook that. The community is one of the best MMO communities around I really recommend getting this game

One of the best mmo's to come out in recent history. The combat is a lot of fun, the dialogue is hilarious, and it is very challenging, which is a breath of fresh air for the mmo market. Absolutely love this game!

Wildstar is really a great MMO - though its not perfect.
What dissapoints me is the boring quests and the overall slow leveling. But once you hit 20 and can access the first dungeon, WS really starts getting funny and you want to rush to lvl 50 as fast as possible to see the raids and other dungeons.
PvP is also verry funny and - if you want so - you can level entirely through PvP.

The game mechanic are great with its doding and telegraph system. The UI is (at least for me) clear and understandable. Another good thing is, that you never get lost while questing - there is always something which comes up and leads you to the next zone or area.

The game runs smoothly (i5-3570K, 16gb DDR3, GTX 470, SSD) and the servers are quite good. At the start they had some issues, but thats normal if there are so many people who want to log in.

One thing (thats why I dont give 9/10) which dissapoints me the most, is that stalkers (the rogue class) I played turned out (at ~lvl 40) to be the ABSOLUTLY worst class for arena (which I´d like to do). This class is verry bad balanced compared to the other classes, has no sustain and only burst dmg and gets eaten up by almost every other class in 1v1. You can check out the forums - there are already many people complaining. In the end, I stoped leveling the stalker and switched to the warrior - and I have to say (compared to the stalker in pvp) hes amazing. If you look into playing PvP - dont play stalker. If you wanna play PvE stalker is quite good. You should also notice, that the hit-boxes can be laggy in some casses and since the stalker has a small attack-area you sometimes miss with your skills (warrior has way bigger attack area -> easier to hit even due lag).

So - in the end, I think this game is a big deal. Everyone who likes MMO should try it in my opinion. But I would not suggest to play stalker.

    Greetings

A breathe of fresh air ! Not only is mobility finally key in an MMO but we also have to be aware of our surroundings. Nothing is given to you in this game, it's a challenge. Yeah it can be "grindy" BUT what MMO isn't ? WoW = Grind Fest, Rift = Grind Fest, SWOTOR = Grind Fest. Hands down the best MMO to come out in years due to it's originality and the combat systems !

While Wildstar doesn't bring any ground breaking new features to the MMO world, Carbine has definitely made a very feature-full and well rounded MMO for the players.

Everything in the game has been well thought out and crafted with care by the guys and girls at Carbine. They only launched a week ago, which was a very, very smooth launch, especially for MMO standards. I give a 9/10

I give a 9/10 because nothing is perfect, and there is always room for improvement. I would say that game optimization and animations are lacking. There is that jolty, jumpy sling shot type lag right now that will hopefully be ironed out, as most games seem to over time.

The classes are all very cool and have some pretty unique abilities that set them apart from other game's typical warriors and mages. Healing and tanking in group play has been pumped up to a new level, and group play in general has been brought to center of attention.

Great soundtrack, interesting dialogue, deep lore, story, and characters, unique and beautiful artwork/animations. The mix of wild humor and over exaggerations mixed with the seriousness of the main story arc is perfect.

Combat 10/10 - very responsive, fluid, and engaging. Plays much more like a 3rd person action RPG than a typical MMO. Especially with some addons, like Keybindfreedom, and Steer, you can rig your setup to aim with your mouse, and mouse buttons as attacks.

One thing, a minor detail that really stands out in my books is the way you can customize your play style. Everything from HUD and UI customization, to how to interact with the world. You can play it like a hack 'n' slash top down RPG, a 3rd person action RPG, hybrid of the two, or you could even download a crosshair addon and play first person.

    9/10 Carbine, great job!

While it's the subscription model or not, the troll to cool person ratio seems to be pretty good. I like to RP and have found a small community, but even outside of that, there are people who are willing to help just to help.

I can't wait to see where they take the system as it has one of the best foundations I have seen in an MMO yet.

Quests, setting & story, graphics, everything ranges from forgetable to downright tedious. It has all been done before, even the suposedly novel telegraph-based combat gameplay which is nothing more than what all action-MMO (such as Neverwinter) have been doing for the past 3 years... Spells and abilities are remarkably scarce and generic. I appreciate their decision to grant two roles (from among dps, healer or tank) to every class, but the very reduced number of spells ends up negating any diversity : as role X, class Y will always be played the same.

The passive (talent) system succeeds in being both ultra-generic (nodes are named "Critical I, Critical II, Critical III", etc...) and grindy as some higher-tiered nodes can only be looted, or bought, or farmed. The UI for skills and their assignment to the action-bar is remarkably tedious. Oh and let's mention the crafting system : it tries to be original but manages to be unintuitive as hell, in addition to being of course much more expensive and time-consuming than it is rewarding.

One of the game's arguably biggest strength is its dungeon-system. While very classical, the instances are indeed challenging. That's a good thing if you have a stable companion group, if you don't it also means you'll soon reconcile with every hazard you have known in pugs : leavers, whiners, ninja-looters, afkers, etc...

It pains me to be so harsh as it's obvious a great deal of work has done into the making of Wildstar. The content is indeed plentiful, and the polish is undeniable. But at the end of the day, it's the same ol' MMO stuff we have been fed for the last 10 years. Some players mention having felt the "vanilla wow magic" again, that's hardly surprising as, let's face it, despite a few ugrades, this is nothing more than "Vanilla Wow in space", minus the well-known background.

Easily the best mmo in the market.
A game full of quality options, with a great combat system and highly polished, by a Dev team that looks they know what they are doing.
Dungeons and Raids are a masterpiece and alongside adventures, shiphands, zone events, world bosses, paths etc are great ways to enjoy PvE. Warplots are a great addition to PvP while arenas and BG's are very well made.

One of the most important things is the promise of the monthly content updates. Dungeons, Raids, Zones, BG's Arenas, Adventures etc will be added every month.
For ppl who they dont know it yet, there is CREDD, a system to pay your sub with gold (like EvE PLEX system).
Last one is Guilds and group play. This is at last a mmo who really promotes this play style in every aspect of the game and it was missed for many years from mmo.s.

When I play an MMO, I want to feel part of a different world. It's about escaping into something cool. The Nexus was the stalest world I've ever set foot in. When I say bland, I'm not kidding. The quests are boring, the storyline is cliched and unoriginal, and the visuals are marginal.

It does everything else right. The mechanics are solid, and the systems or old but stable and work well. Monsters are a bit tougher since you need to learn to dodge specials, but after a while that becomes routine but tedious. Perhaps I could have gotten over the shortcoming of the game except the grind is something aweful - easily the longest leveling process in any game I've played.

I think the game is geared towards hardcore players that enjoy a very long and tough grind and don't really care about fluff like story or atmosphere.

Saying that NCSOFT took a big risk by not following suit with the MMO trends is a good description for nearly every aspect of this game. I got in the beta the head start few bugs but by far the smoothest MMO launch I have ever seen! The development team clearly listens to the playerbase for input. The classes are fun and feel different. Both Factions are enjoyable.

One thing I will say now. It's a Cell Shaded game. Which is an Artistic choice. Many mistake this for "Bad Graphics." Another thing people are claiming to try and make the game sound terrible would be the lack of ability to play well on AMD processors. Okay first off if your using AMD and expecting it to run video games Made recently then your out of your mind! AMD used to be good. The operative word "Used".

Also people claim Wildstar as a Wow clone. Ignore them as it's clear they never played this game or World of Warcraft. When the Genre, the Classes, gameplay, and features are nothing alike then how is it a clone exactly?

Point is some of the reviews here are misleading or just blatantly done by people who haven't played. I'd recommend the game in a heart beat. If the fun engaging combat, the player housing, the Minigame styled crafting system, the engaging story, the Humorous tones at times, the PVP, or the simple fact it's fun doesn't get you hooked then there's simply no pleasing you.

For those burnt out on WOW's content, WildStar is easy to endorse. Immediately familiar to anyone who's visited Azeroth and with enough new twists on the tried-and-tested theme park formula, Carbine's game is so overflowing with stuff to do that it's certainly justified in asking for a subscription - even if less people seem prepared to sign up to one.

Wildstar banks on hardcore raid and instance difficulty as well as its excellently implemented "dancing" real time combat mechanic to offer something significantly new and fresh to the MMORPG scene. Low server population and annoying hints of a "Pay To Win More" model hold it back in certain areas, but it has all the potential of becoming a well established and much loved setting for years to come.
