    The developers spent their money on marketing rather than making a good game.

    This is all I have to say, so I'll just keep on typing until this review is over 150 character and I can post it.

    DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

    Worst game of 2014? Could be. I thought Thief was bad but oh man, this game thinks way too much of itself as being the coolest open world action game out there. For a "next-gen" game, it lacks detail, reflections and atmosphere. The downgraded graphics aren't even the worst part... The game suffers major slowdowns, especially while driving and even on the lowest settings you'll be sittingWorst game of 2014? Could be. The controls aren't any better, with forced mouse acceleration, smoothing and lack of cursor in certain menus for navigation.

    What about game play? Hahahahaha, you must be joking if you think there's anything to do in this maze-like city they call an "open world". Driving is the worst of any open world game I've played. Car physics are so bad, it feels like you're driving a slab of concrete on ice. And the profiling crimes that take place are a joke. It's so repetitive and stale: Go help the woman being harassed, go chase the criminal with string A.I. No thanks.

    Digital trips are probably the worst aspect of all this. Cause mayhem with your spider tank! Run over demons with your car! But why? To compete in online leader boards. These side activities have nothing to do with the game itself and feel tacked on more than anything else. They are stupid, uninspired mini-games trying to be over-the-top and whacky just for the sake of it, without giving you any real benefit. I'd rather play Mario Party.

    Then there are the bugs and the horrible A.I. I just don't know what to say about this game anymore. It's a joke that's asking you for $60 and a few hours of your itme, a pathetic attempt at trying to be something profound and unique that just ends up embarrassing itself for all it's shortcomings.

    So I pay £45 for this game and find that I can't even play it because Ubisoft's servers are down all night.

    Fine, well implementing DRM was your choice Ubisoft, as was deciding not to ensure you had sufficient servers when launching a major title. Scoring this game a 0, well, that's my choice.

    First off, for whatever reason the moment I loaded the game the camera zoomed in to about twice what it should and made cutscenes akward and gameplay unplayable. PC gaming is more complex than console but I have no idea how slipped Ubisoft by.

    Second off, I own a GTX 780 and computer to use it and I can't run this game on ultra. I've even seen reports of people with the same high end card having trouble running the game on low. Not only are the graphics lower than what was shown in trailers but it's optimized like a joke. If you have a high end pc don't think this is another great game for you.

    You may have noticed my review had nothing to do with the game and that is true. This is because I cannot play the game!! I can't even speak of the controls, story, or system of the game as I can't get to them in a manor that they were meant to be played. How can a game that achieved gold before relasing and had this much hype fail harder than the PC port for Dark Souls or even Battlefield 4?

    It's very rare I preorder a game unless the compnay or ip has proven to be worth it (aka Valve or Bioshock) but this has taught me a lesson I should have already guessed. Never preorder anything from Ubisoft because I never will again after this failure.    … Expand

    I'm an NVIDIA user and I still hate this game. It's another boring, derivative entry in the Rockstar library of games for 15 year olds. I'm not going to pull out my nerd card and crap on this game's sad presentation of hacking. I mean come on, even Titanfall's "hacking" is minimized to a knife being jammed into a computer's circuit.     A really terrible game with absolutely no good quality's whatsoever... I really can't even believe it was released. I can't remember a more boring pointless game even if I tried.     Those people voting low are not just voting low for no reason. When you pull out a gun, people will suddenly turn around and look at you and people will see you take it out through a wall. When you shoot at a vehicle window, it doesn't do anything if you're not fairly close to it...     Ubisoft just gave the middle finger to 40% of the PC community who use AMD Radeon cards like myself. I won't blame Nvidia for ruining the industry with their proprietary crap and closed environment. I'm blaming Ubisoft for ignoring us. I'll update my review once the game gets patched, and if not I'll be requesting a refund.

    The game is amazing!!! This is the nextgen!!! The cars are handling like a brick and missing the deformation. Those amazing pedestrians with the same walking animation. The boring storyline, and press to win hacking. Oh god 10/10!!!

    Ubisoft is not giving a shiet about PC and thats enought for me to give it a big fat zero. Also the graphics are awful and this is important in a game that was marketed as "next-gen". What a load of bull crap.

    This is unacceptable. The game doesn't even start! It's not a problem of my computer, the issue is common among many gamers on Ubisoft forums. And this isn't the first time neither.
    Really, someone at Ubisoft needs to be fired. As soon as possible.

    I was very excited for this game. Wasn't playable on release and is not yet. DON'T BUY IT!!
    Ubisoft really messed it up. I want my money back ! Relase a game like this is a slap in the face of every honest customer. People who downloaded it on the pirate bay played without any problems.

    Bait and switch from E3, playing watch dogs I jumped into the river to escape cops, the water disappeared and i was running on the bottom of the river ground with no water and looking up I could see boats but sense there's no water I could not swim up to them, what was the extra six months for?

    I wanted this game to be good but unfortunately that wasn't the case. It's the same game as Far Cry and Assassin's Creed re-skinned. The graphics have been considerably downgraded to be the same on consoles. And between the bugs, childish memes, and boring gameplay, this is quite possibly the worst game I've ever played.

    Lazy works can be clearly observed in this game. There are great deviations in lighting from various environment, either too dark or bright. Vehicles or NPCs get jammed in street. Crazy physic like people or vehicle flying like a rocket when being hit, is also present in this game.

    The game mechanic is also an epic failure. The character animations and control are apparently direct clones from AC4 and Splinter Cell Blacklist. The hacking and driving mechanics are both laughable, you can just play the game as a mediocre TPS without any compromise in mission objective, in the ways limited by the developer, e.g. can't shoot when driving vehicle.

    I won't talk more about the technical issues of this game, as it is mentioned by other reviewers many times already.

    Basically, PC players are doomed due to some "nice" works by their "beloved" developers.

    A game of such low quality with intention to play trick on PC players, can even break the sales record of the developers. Do you think that it is ridiculous? This presents a serious problem in the game community. Buyers, please learn to read the reviews, don't believe the trailer blindly and just pre-order. And most importantly, do not forget what the unethical companies have done to you, and boycott them in future.    … Expand

    If you somehow manage to log into your UPlay account (which sucks like all DRM does), you get into a terribly developed game, which won't allow a High end PC to run any higher than Medium graphics. Disrupt doesn't support such systems (the engine), so I had to install it on my powerful laptop with a dedicated Nvidia GPU, which worked as Nvidia is in bed with them. It stutters like **** and makes the game unplayableFirst of all, this game is broken beyond repair.     The crime system is a joke consisting out of three different cases in six different locations, each the same. The repercussions are a joke, getting money is a joke, there is two types of police vehicles, two models... The helicopter and the generic vehicle.

    There is no dynamic lighting (not even on ultra), the game looks like **** during the day. The drving mechanics are a joke, cutscenes are pretty much the only thing that's okay. But you can't drive anything, it was developed by a goddamn toddler.

    Stealth missions are an automatic fail on the first sight of discovery.

    Where is the pride? Big review houses are giving this game huge scores (8+), but it doesn't deserve 3. It's a piece of **** go around it if you can.    … Expand

The driving is absolutely horrendous, you almost have to have a motorcycle to escape on realistic. The story line is ok, although the dialog felt really bland and boring. The only interaction I actually preferred was Aiden and Clara and they ruined that. I won't even start on the performance issues about this game. Honestly it burned two nights of boredom but that was about it.… Expand

    I played in the creation of a new Ubisoft - do not know what 's so grand - engine - clean AC: BF can be seen with the naked eye with the 90% trimmed parkour . Physics in the game - the whole campaign she left a cloak protagonists. Machines behave inappropriately - simple details tkakih traces of burnt rubber - no. Physics destruction cars - about anything. In passable signified miracleI played in the creation of a new Ubisoft - do not know what 's so grand - engine - clean AC: BF can be seen with the naked eye with the 90% trimmed parkour . Side missions did not want to pass because of wet and empty plot. And fantasy writers have really not as such - a good idea - the result - a complete PE. Less than at the end of the second chapter is becoming clear that there will be at the end of the fifth .
    Ubisoft is a failure . Trying to keep up with the GTA V - not successful . Absent any fan . Empty city and live their lives. Size 13 or 22 gig , it does not justify itself . 8 gigs ceiling.
    But what's really there - in Assassin Creed and that was fun to play - even though the story was surreal .    … Expand

    Now about the game itself. Ubisoft has promised us a true next-gen experience (whatever that actually means) but Watch_Dogs fails to deliver in almost every regard.

    - The PC Version is very unoptimized and is crash prone, there are also crashes related to AMD AND Nvidia drivers but you can't fully blame them for this.
    - Graphics on ultra doesn't look that good yet the game requires big hardware for it (see point above for why)
    - Car Handling is really bad
    - AI is overly scripted and generally bad; Examples: When you are in a vehicle and drive onto the rails the trains will do a full stop for you - even if they have just 4m to hit you which brings us to the next point
    - Physics are very, very bad. Generally the game feels like GTA on training wheels, Cars and trains will do physical impossible full stops to get out of your way, there is no real deforming/damage models on vehicles, you can hop out of moving trains without any injury, drive your bike with full speed into a wall and it just stops, then you drive backwards against a pole and your car is flung 100m into the air.
    - Missions are repetitive and not fun after a while, the story is also a kind of hit and miss. There is really no character development
    - The most notorious flaw however is lazy developers/ Lack of detail: Poor Water detail (no spray when you shoot it, static waves etc), static shadows, reflections are phony - they only reflect static images no cars, NPCs or even the protagonist, lack of vehicle damage model, most decorations are static and can't be destroyed by driving your car into it, no scratching walls with your vehicle, invisible walls everywhere, overdone minigames with little to no change to them, shooting civilians always kills them with a single bullet even if you hit their pinky. Hacking is very boring after 1-2hrs in the game, always the same pattern (very much like a problem with the AC series), speaking of Assasins Creed: They even copied the run animation for Watch dogs, do some sprinting and you will recognize it.

    There really is no excuse for all that laziness for a game that promised a nextgen experience and even went so far to compare itself (in it's own ads) with GTA. GTA4 does everything in the detail category better and was released 2008! Also it's highly modable which can put it above this game graphic wise and still perform better.
    I'd give this 3/10 but as so many idios give it 10 to "even out" the bad reviews, well I'm doing that too.    … Expand

    Ubi$oft really dropped the ball on this one. I guess the delay didn't help at all.

    The game launched with many bugs and complaints. One of the biggest ones is the need to install uPlay and launch it through steam everytime before you play as a sort of middleman who really hates you.

    The game crashes constantly, if you can even get in the game that is.

    Uplay is down, I can't download the game. Judging by the slew of similar problems reported here I can see that I'm not the only one.

    Maybe it is a blessing in disguise, the game seems to be a lame duck of a console port judging be the sites that I trust like Rock Paper Shotgun.

    Can't even launch the game because of Uplay, until Ubisoft gets rid of the idiotic 'service' don't buy anything from them. This isn't the first time Uplay has caused issues for me either, having previously deleted 6 hours of game progress in AC4.

    The game as shipped is unplayable, even on a high end machine it jumps and stutters at the lowest of settings. The graphics are less impressive than those of GTAIV or the latest in the hitman series, leaving this game with few excuses for poor performance. Ubisoft should be better than producing this shovelware.

    Terrible PC port. The optimization is abysmal. The story is completely boring. Regarding the game play, think of it as a glorified assassins creed set in current time. I have a pretty high end PC and suffer from fps drops while driving or doing any other stuff. Also, ultra settings don't live up to the quality of the demo shown a while back. Don't buy it, or just wait until Ubisoft fixes it.

AI is just plainly and simply completely down syndrome ridden, even on hard, and the NSA-esque digital prying becomes irking and never gets any funnier than stupid allusions to NPCs' sexual preferences. The only mildly entertaining character here was the azn with the funny hair, and even he wears thin quickly. Textures pop in and out constantly, yet this is merely a tidbit of what I've been hearing about the more common technical difficulties my brethren have been experiencing (RANDOM CRASHING; need I say more?).

    And the worst aspect of it all: even on Ultra with every setting cranked up to the max, the game looks NOTHING like the E3 2012 tech demo that we've been salivating over for 2 years. We were brokered a fairy tale by snake oil salesmen, yet again. When will we learn?    … Expand

    The vehicle physics though is what makes this game unplayable and most of the crashes could have been much better made, even GTA IV which is a current gen game have much more realism to crashes than this game so this game made me disappointed and I cant tolerate those physics at all so I do not recommend this game. Horrible game physics 0/10 but if the game had been much more realistic in that aspect I would gladly recommend this game and even give it a perfect score but this was close to being the best and most realistic game that I never had played.     The game will force you to play in ways you just don't want to play. You will spend hours on just trying to get one action done. You will even go to YouTube and watch people fail over and over on the same mission you're on and commenting how frustrating it is or how they'll have to do a lot of editing to take out the 2 hours of attempts to do this one action that is blocking them from enjoying the rest of the game.

    They did not care about PC customers when they released the game. Because if they did, they would not. Unplayable at the moment. No fix helps. Controls are just hell.

    I registered on metaritic just so I can state my frustration with this game. Ubisoft clearly does not care about its PC consumer base as this game is barely functional with very little thought put into the PC port. Also hacking is not very fun when it boils down to a point and click QTE. Characters were not interesting. Overall an over-hyped disappointing game.

The stuttering while driving can make you go insane! At a solid 60 fps I can't drive a sports car because if I go too fast the game will stutter too much, thanks ubisoft. Not only thatHorrible. But Ubisoft preferred to spend money on marketing than to invest in game itself, so I subtract 2 points. A 2 more goes for DUBLICATING POSITIVE USER COMMENTS. Cheating in post-publish reviews is not cool Ubisoft, not cool at all. I guess more than a half of the positive comments are either fixed beforehand or dublicated via web-tools.    … Expand

    < i could play till 85%, then my savegame got corrupted and everything is resettet.
    < only ONE savegame possible, so if broken -> new game

    uplay = **** ... servers suck like hell, online playing impossible, etc etc etc.

    Terrible game. Very bad optimisation for PC. Entire game is scripted as hell, plot is so bad that I cannot believe that someone really made this. Everything is about hunting for mcguffins from the beginning to the end. A lot of bugs and Watch Dogs is sooo booooring.

    Do not buy. You will waste your money for this piece of crap. This game should never be released in this state!

    Oh yeah, the gameplay... the first mission seemed cool, the simple hacking mechanic is novel and fun to use, character models and animations look good.

    Vehicle mechanics are lacking - you won't feel connected to road, even when using a gamepad. Handling is just all over the place.

    I'm less than an hour in, with 6 hours of wasted time trying to get it stable and playable, so I'm done with Watch Dogs for now. I'll revisit once (or if) it's patched and playable.    … Expand

    As this game is a colossal failure beyond my abilties to write in the form of sentences, I'm simply going to list all the problems in this "Sandbox" game:

    Watch_Dogs automatically tries to force you into the "Good Karma" route as doing literally any actual "random" event on the world map is just "DURRR, EYM A CRIME SOLVUR, I LISTEN IN ON YUR PHOON N DEN GO 2 SUM PLEYC 2 WITNES SHET LOL". Playing as a bad guy? Well, you'll have no opportunity to say, take advantage of a situation but the worst crime here is the system itself. You need to stay close enough before & when the crime is being commited and If you step in just a little when the game deems it to be 99% close to a crime being commited (as symbolized by the PROBABILITY OF BEING A VICTIM TO A CRIME PERCENTAGE METER above a person's head), both parties (the robber and the one getting robbed, for example) will both fitz into a seizure, ignore eachother and start to casually powerwalk away from the location, and the game saying "HAHA, YOU FAILED TO PREVENT A CRIME, THE CRIMINAL SAW YOU THROUGH THE EYE IN HIS NECK AND NOW HE WILL GO AND COMMIT A CRIME ANOTHER DAY XD". It's just development stupidity beyond my imagination. What did I do subsequently? I shot the criminal in the back of his head and went away smiling. But shame that I got no reward stopping a future crime, nor did I get the opportunity to loot his corpse as the only thing I gained was a "MURDERER!!!!" popup at the top right of my screen.

    The police in this game has to be some of the worst I've seen in a while. They are either ignorant, deaf and dumb clutz when you are sneaking around, taking them out loudly with a baton or they're all super-cops, unloading a 100% accuracy barrage of bullets from all directions after rushing to a scene at 160 km/h because they got a report that someone got bumped by a car. I even had the audacity to try and lose them by driving in reversed traffic at full speed in a sports-car. Nope nope nope, said Ubisoft, they have cybernetic implants along with a 600% boost to their handling and breaking capabilities when chasing you, Ubisoft states while jerking off. Don't ask why, our game is perfect and completely justifiles a 60€ pricetag that will drop faster than my libido after orgasm once people start reading reviews for our rubbish. Another police problem would be that patrol cars don't react to traffic laws being broken whatsoever. Drive in opposite lane? No problem. Bump and scratch into people? No problem. Be inches away from driving over a dozen pedestrians? No problem.

    Another huge immersive problem would be the people themselves in the city. Apart from a few heavily scripted instances, the personality and overall consistency of the inhabitants are completely off. I've seen dozens of hobos playing virtual reality videogames on their high-end phones while listening in on people that "recently had a panic attack" talk in very deep, collective and calm voices about casually commiting illegal activity. And when that Isn't blatantly obvious, there's also the fact that ALL pedestrians are capable of literally pouncing away from your car If you approach them at even miniscule speeds. This includes eldery people and while seeing an old lady in her 80-90's spasm 4 feet away from my car's hood within the blink of an eye, It's not very realistic while also concreting in the "Good Karma" ideals that the developers have in mind, not letting you do mass murders so easily or realize the absurdly bad car physics to hitting a human body. The cutscenes also look abyssmal with every single NPC set of teeth resembling the detail with that of carved bricks of limestone.

    Cars and every aspect of the driving element in this game is copypasted from Sleeping Dogs. While functional, It's FAR from what people expect in this kind of game and more importantly, it's way different from what was advertised as the only "dynamic" thing about cars in this game is that a few plastic covers will fall off after enough damage. The fact that some cars will THROW themselves on the horn 0.0000001 seconds if you slightly bump their rear end is also another example of horrid game design when combined with the constantly occuring scenario where I'd be driving through an intersection, have a truck drive past, I speed up, and the truck suddenly slams on his breaks as he's 85% done crossing the intersection, causing me to crash into his backside because the turd AI in this game told him "SCARY SCARY SITUATION, HE CLOSE, U SLAM BREAKS NOW OK?" It's cheap, It's false advertising and It's Watch Dogs. Stay away.    … Expand

    -The AI characters/cars spawn and despawn like 10 meters from you. It's the **** that GTA 3 did, that cars behind you despawn instantly, and a few meters ahead also. Same goes for any AI that is not story driven. Shame.
    -The combat is unfair. The tips say that when you move, the AI will lose track of you. Ok, but when they know where you are, they see you and shoot at you through anything you are hiding behind. Succesfully
    -The 1 button to hack is mediocre at best. Not many things at all you can do with it, and it gets boring. You can get rich by spending 5 minutes at a highly populated square and then you just don't care
    -Side missions are repetitive as **** and appear way too often. I don't even bother anymore, stopped doing them after 2 hours of gameplay
    -The mini games ,,, well good to have them, but they are not "that" great. Slot machines, poker, trips, AR game... boring.
    -No matter what I do I cannot find anything to do while I'm not in a mood of going through another painful and stupid part of the main story. I just end up killing everything that moves or ramming a truck full speed into incoming traffic, watching the bad physics handle the crash
    -Yeah, physics aren't that great either. Gravity works, sometimes, but that's probably it...
    -If it ain't a sniper rifle, you won't hit anyone that is further than 5-10m from you. No chance. Well, a bit but not in a combat situation while covering.
    -Yeah the cover system. I expected and still expect "Press C to cover, C to exit cover", but no, you have to walk away from the surface you are covering behind to "uncover". And it takes a few seconds of holding the right directional key for it to really work and unstick you from the wall.
    -Weapon wheel is bad. I get killed so many times while switching weapons, just because after each load of game it puts a sniper rifle as my selected weapon. I really don't know why.
    -Who thought of putting character progression into an open-world action game. And levels. And skillpoints. Why ? Why ???? Just teach me how to do what in the process. Gain "skills" by going through the story, completing objectives, not by spending ****ing skillpoints and leveling up.
    -The mouse. Oh the mouse. That's the first thing that **** me up. It acts just silly, it starts as if you are moving through maple syrup, then it starts responding lightning fast. Really great in combat.
    -The damage to the cars is stupid, except for blown tires which are awesome, i mean look awesome, the physics are broken on that one more than anything else.

    The short version:
    Don't you dare buy it. Don't support Ubisoft for developing and releasing a game that had so much potential, yet still managing to **** it up so bad. If you want to play it, just pirate it. Please. Don't give them a single cent for this.    … Expand

I couldn't log into uplay for 3 hours+ when I tried it said some stupid error code and lagged. When I finally got to play the first story mission, it crashed about 10 times in 2 hours, and I have a very good pc.     Ubisoft's flagship title has a really, really repulsive protagonist. The entire storyline feels like it was cranked out of a automated story generator. On the positive side, Watch Dogs looks really good on PC, especially after modding the graphics to match the visual splendor of the early E3 demos. [Aug 2014]

    Nothing could have realistically lived up to the immense level of hype that Ubisoft stirred up for this game, and while I value strong narratives and envelope-pushing technological advancements, I place just as much importance in the ability to enjoy the gameplay that's being offered to me. Watch Dogs is one of the more exciting sandbox games of the last few years, and if this is to become Ubisoft's next big franchise, I'm excited to see where they take it.
