Expand

Seriously though, some elements are **** stupid. Yes the AI is pretty damn good. Some mechanics like hiding in your car are awesome, but most times the game is just damn inconsistent.

How is it that enemies who don't know who I am are able to get alerted because they see me? This is in public, in broad daylight, and unless Aiden is wearing some invisible sign that only enemies can see that says "Shoot me I'm the main character", he looks just like every other joe walking around.
Nikki is broken out in a stealth sequence that you direct her in, kinda like in Blops 2 with the SR71 scene. Just shooting enemies would have been more fun.

Legend of Zelda-style zoom ins. Seriously I think every time a new enemy walked into the fray it required its own 10 second clip of me watching them enter. Hell there was one time in a campaign mission when the last remaining bad guy outside a warehouse was supposed to drive off, initiating a chase sequence. The game required me to watch him drive ~100 yards from the warehouse to the street before I could control Aiden again.

The game yelling at me to stay within the mission zone, with timers if I leave it. Seriously wtf.

Gears of War slow walk. Remember how in GoW Marcus has to walk super slow to talk on the phone. This game does that... a lot.

Zoom in on vehicle kills. If you take down a vehicle using your hacks, it zooms in on that vehicle in slo-mo, which since their often behind you, causes an inordinate amount of car crashes/civilian deaths when the camera returns to your perspective.

Story from a high level is awesome, but the details make no sense. Literally everyone in the city knows you're the vigilante before your sister does. Hell during one mission where you need to prevent some dudes from telling on your identity (even though they only saw your face and don't know your name) I had a lady on the street say "Hey you're Aiden Pearce, the vigilante". Wtf.

Also, despite the fact that the FREAKING RADIO says Aiden's the vigilante but has the support of the people, when your nemesis posts that to public tv, everybody goes bat **** crazy and tries to call the cops on Aiden.

Side note, somebody deserves a medal for Lucky Quinn's character design. He's perfect.

The focus is WAY too much on driving for a game that doesn't have great driving mechanics.

On the plus side, some multi player modes have been really fun, unfortunately they are quite buggy and pairing is patchy, sometimes can't get an online session for ages. overall, if if it wasn't so hyped i probably wouldn't be so disappointed, I have been playing it and enjoying it, all the while thinking how much better i thought it would be ;) If you pick it up in a bargain bin a year from now, you'll probably love it.

This game is great! Game play is fun and extremely interactive. Can't wait for the patches to smooth things out. That is why I give this game a 9 and not a 10, is because of the technical sloppiness.

    4. Muliplayer is well...it usually boils down to the target hiding in really empty place where you can't track him unnoticed or its just take the fastest car and leaves you. I kinda like the fact that you can be invaded all of a sudden but again it boils down to someone having a faster car.
    5. Gunplay is quite boring. All that hacking stuff becomes boring and repetitive at the 4-5th time.
    6. AI is ok. Nothing special
    7. Music is terrible except the part where you have to hack another player. Radio is just awful

Again. They had alotof experience with AC series and still failed to come up with something original. Minigames doesnt make the sandbox interesting. The world around you lacks on ambient noises and that makes the world around you even more empty.

first of all: Don't let the low user score scare you from this title. It's a good game.
Ubisoft made people wait a hole year for this game, and after that, another year. That made impossible surpass the expectations. That probably happened because the game is too ambitious.
The game lacks its own style and looks like a copy of GTA, but that don't make it a bad game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To be fair, this game is not as good as GTA V, but it is still a very decent game. No many games are playable if you always compare them to the greatest games. I really hope this game will grow in the future and offer more to things do in-game.

    Pros
Some unique city interactions, providing different kind of chasing/ escape gameplay.
Great stealth game-play compare to most open-world games.
Beautiful world. I know its not great, but beautiful still.

    Con
Very bad PC version. I have a decent PC and I still need to run it on medium settings. Hope this will be fixed
    Rather boring characters.
    Short story.
Side quests are boring. ( I had high hope for the serial killer, but in the end its just another crime prevention.)

Multiplayer is surpirisingly original and good, best hide and seek I've ever played !
Selection of weapons, cars and other unlockables is very good.
Bugs are few but there are some issues in multiplayer connection.
The bad part is for example side missions are extremely lazy and repetetive, grindy feeling they bring, game being too easy (to conform retarted casuals probably), story feeling cheesy, main character being sorta underdeveloped, most minigames are plain bad and pointless (apart from unlocks), day-1 greedy DLCs marketing. Meh.

It's a fun game but ruined by slopiness and greed (which game today isn't though)
    Gets a flat 7/10.

I liked this game! Obviously there are issues, starting from the failed promises the E3 Demo made. I played the game last year (2017) with graphical mods so I propably had a little better experience on technological wise than the gamers that played the game when it was released. Mouse is still terrible in this game, fortunately they fixed it for Watch Dogs 2.

Anyway, the game was better than I expected. Graphics are nice (with "E3" mods) , story is weak, but not annoying at least. Gameplay is the best part of the game, there could be more ways to hack etc but for the most part gameplay is just what can be expected, it is the first game of the series after all.

I don't care about graphics, and gameplay feels enough fun to f*ck around for a couple of hours a day.

The problem is, it makes me feel a little old and sad. Every modern game does, but this one does it the wrong way.

Honestly, the story here is your generic revenge story mixed in with a "Taken" style kidnapping plot. You'll be able to predict this story and there's no plot twist here. Another problem is that it takes awhile until the story begins to pick up some steam. The entire 1st act along with half of the 2nd act felt boring and actually made me stop playing the game for a few days because I'd rather play something else instead. The 3rd act is where things finally got interesting but the ending also felt like a disappointing conclusion to the 30 plus hour plot. Aiden is also a pretty boring hero. He isn't as boring as a mute protagonist but he has no interesting personality traits and he often does a poor man's Christian Bale Batman impression. The side characters are WAY more interesting than Aiden since they have more personality in them, more charm, and some of them have a good backstory. On a side note, why didn't they resolve Poppy's side plot well enough? It felt so unfinished to have an interesting character for only 1 mission then to just throw it away like that. Overall, the story here is bad and Aiden is a boring hero. If the sequel is being planned, give us a more interesting hero Ubisoft. 4/10

    Gameplay:
Watch Dogs's main selling point is in the hacking, and they did a solid job on delivering on that promise. With the help of some skills, you'll be able to hack objects like cameras, blockers, spikes, traffic lights, steam pipes, generators, and more. As said, you can unlock skill points via leveling up, or completing gang hideouts which are infiltrating a gang hideout and incapacitating the leader(s). You can use these skill points to unlock skills for hacking, driving, combat, and crafting. The crafting in this game contains a good variety of new gadgets to mess around with. You can craft devices that cause blackouts, jam nearby electronics (essential if you want to avoid the cops), IED mines, grenades, and pills that increase your focus. Focus is a feature that lets you slow down time while you're shooting, driving, or on foot. Think of Michael and Franklin's abilities from GTA 5 mixed together. Like with other Ubisoft games, there are a ton of activities to do outside the main story. You can hack cTOS towers to reveal items on your minimap (sound familiar?), take over cTOS control centers (also sound familiar?), solve crimes, complete gang hideouts and criminal convoys, hack into surveillance equipment and spy on other NPCs for a short period of time, and more. I also liked the stealth aspect of this game because instead of sneaking into a base and highlighting enemies as you infiltrate like in Far Cry 3, you can use cameras to highlight enemies, trigger noises and explosives, and generally mess around with the A.I. (go "Paranormal Activity" on them by making electrical objects go off around them). I also really liked the shooting in this game as it feels tactical compared to other open world games. Instead of going in guns blazing and shooting everything, you actually have to go behind cover and use your environment to your advantage. The driving in this game though sucks mostly due to how poor the handling is. I don't mind the arcade-y physics as it helps whenever your car crashes and trust me, you'll probably crash your car about a dozen times or more. I also DESPISED the cops in this game. They're way too accurate with their shots (I don't care about realism if it ruins the fun of a game), the helicopters are hard to get rid of unless you have the hacking skill or a grenade launcher, and since you can't shoot your gun while in a car, it can be a chore just to get away from them. There's also a lack of customization in this game as there's no gun or car customization, and the clothing options suck. There's also a reputation system if you're interested. The gameplay's fine, but its' missing some items. 7/10

    Graphics:
On max settings, the game looks good, but they seriously downgraded it from E3. I'd suggest getting "The Worse" mod if you want more from your game. 7/10

    Sound:
The sounds here are well made with the ACR gun sound probably being one of my favorite gun sounds in video games ever. The soundtrack is ok but it isn't as good as Saints Row or GTA. 7/10

    Multiplayer:
There are 6 available modes here: Online hacking and tailing which are my favorites as they create good tension for both sides, Decryption which I wasn't a fan of, races, free mode, and mobile challenges which are fine alternatives. At least the multiplayer here isn't tacked on BS for once. 7/10

Verdict: The game suffers from having too much hype and having an awful launch because of uPlay. I'd say lower your expectations and get this when the price drops.

    Rating: 7/10

Well, I find it more enjoyable than Ubisoft's Far Cry 3 and the combat mechanics superior to Sleeping Dogs.

For the most part, I'm like the game. Fictional Chicago feels real. The visuals and lighting are impressive. Although graphic quality is a sticking point with gamers lately, most are over zealous. Watch Dogs maintains high graphic fidelity while simultaneously pushing cool visual effects. When Aiden's profiler app is active, information is constantly streaming in about people and environments. Viewing Chicago thru a hacked camera takes mere seconds as the whole world is shifted to different perspectives. Even fast traveling is speedy. These seamless transitions are handled in true Ubisoft fashion. That's a good thing. Despite the huge world, it only takes up 22gb of space. THANK YOU UBISOFT!! I'm tired of 50gb+ games that offer less and look worse.

Hacking is easy, unlike the cumbersome minigames in Dues Ex HR. In combat, hacking can be combined with stealth to provide tactical advantages. Players can craft items that will distract opponents or knock out the power grid. Hacking bridges and stoplights while driving allows speedy getaways. So one touch hacking makes sense and keeps the pacing brisk. Or players can use lethals and blow up everything in sight. And focus mode slows down time long enough for players to pick off a few baddies. The cover system is perfect for stealth, and focus mode is a treat for those who like to place headshots. However, driving is clunky and cars handle horribly. Unfortunately, players are forced to complete dozens of frustrating chases.

There are side missions, but they don't feel quite as repetitive as Far Cry 3. There are different online game modes such as racing, and players can invade other people's games. Fortunately, the invasion mode can be turned off for those who only want to focus on the missions.

Unfortunately, the game is not PC optimized. There is micro stuttering, fps drops, and sound hiccups. Thankfully, ATI’s latest beta driver address those. Now, I generally only experience problems if textures are set to Ultra. For now, I'm forced to leave textures at High. Occasionally, the game force quits and frames still stutter. Without ATI's effort, Watch Dogs would be unplayable. The game is extremely RAM hungry. My system RAM will peak at 5gb but my GPU's VRAM won't go past 70% load. That's a console port legacy and explains the issue with Ultra textures.

Although gameplay is fun, there are frustrations. I can't tell Aiden which car door to exit. I've automatically exited the side of a car taking all the gun fire. Stupid. I wanted to exit the passenger door and use my car as cover while placing a few shots. Nope. And I agree with critics that hacking is superficial. It seems most beneficial while evading pursuers. However, I really think Ubisoft is trying to force players to use multiple play styles. If all enemies could be hacked, the game would be too easy. If hacking was complicated, then it becomes Deus Ex. The dilemma for Ubisoft was establishing the right balance. It wants players to engage in combat. So hacking is only advantageous for gaining intel, thinning out enemies, or escaping.
Aiden's carries every gun, lethal, and hacking device he touches. Also, his phone (the primary hacking device) has an infinite power supply. Even if the battery drains, recharges quickly. Need grenades? Just craft those on the go. Get the point? It’s way too easy. The missions can be challenging depending on the approach players take. But there is always the temptation to take the easy route: Blow everything up and shoot survivors. There is one huge annoyance. If Aiden dies during a mission, his car disappears. So players can be stuck with a POS clunker for one of the dozens of chases unless they restart the mission.

The story is OK. It doesn’t have the depth of Sleeping Dogs, but it’s more enjoyable than FC 3. The ceaseless propaganda is annoying . Even if car radios are disabled, advertising and "news" will still play conveying the same message over and over: Is technology evil? Are we giving up privacy for convenience? I'm tired of hearing that every 2 minutes. The lack of subtlety is irritating after the 10th time it plays. Dues Ex did a much better job conveying a similar message.

Watch Dogs is a great effort by Ubisoft into GTA's world. In fact, I say it’s a must own. Despite the gimmicky hacking, the game is fun. I'm disappointed by the buggy PC launch. The PC gaming market is much larger than big publishers acknowledge, just look at Steam's success. ATI did what it could, but Ubisoft needs to push more patches now. The game deserves an 8 out of 10, but poor optimization and poor driving mechanics are impossible to overlook.

But it is strangely intriguing to escape the police by stopping a train, jumping in and drive on.
Also there's some stealth gameplay when taking out gangs and racing gameplay when driving challenges (although car handling is waaaay out the window and actually quick frustrating as your over civilians for penalty).
There's gameplay where you stop crime where it can be difficult to avoid detection (eagle eye NPCs) and then take down the culprit at the right time. So there's a good deal to do - but as said - most of the time it's rather uniform and ultimately simplistic.
It's also completely overpowered that you can almost instant hack from surveillance camera to camera and blow up bad guys that way - but I guess it would be difficult to make a proper stealth game when the theme is hacking.
Money in the game comes from just randomly hacking civilians back accounts and then going to an ATM - again - rather simplistic.
The story I've not advanced much but it is also a minor thing compared to the sandbox game.

I did get some sort of hacking mini-game when hacking a cTOS tower, but there wasn't much game in the mini-game as it was just pressing some nodes to allow a data flow.

I did try an on-line portion and this might be where the game shines a bit more. There are a number of missions where you either hack or prevent hacking from real life player enemies and some driving contests (which given the handling of the cars could be quite chaotic). Unfortunately I suck in this game and failed my first on-line mission terrible - so newbies might get run over by experienced players and that would kill the on-line part for newcomers and detract a lot from their experience - but I think the online part could be an addictive and different experience compared to so many other games. Especially if they expand a bit on the missions and make a few more non-combat missions.

All in all - the game is decent enough in smaller doses (I don't see myself playing 4 hours in a row) and does have a lot of qualities. But it is let down by simplicity which makes me wonder what they've actually spend all the time on.

The city is beautifully created - but as always with all these games. There's not much to do as most building are closed to you. A lot of civilians are rendered giving a nice populated feel to the city, but these moving objects are little other than ways to get cash.

For a game with the hacking theme I feel this game misses it mark and it could have been much more fleshed out instead of just pressing Q to hack traffic lights, Q to hack trains, Q to hack signs, Q to hack for money, Q to .... well, you get my drift. It could just as well be any theme game.

But all in all - it still is strangely fun, but it just falls short. It's definitely not a 9 or 10 game but neither is it a 0 or 1 game.

Game is pretty fun and has some interesting dynamics but the fact that there is a save game corruption that you can't get out of and need to restart from scratch is inexcusable. Maybe when they get that fixed i'll bump up the score but taking 2 weeks already with no end in sight is not a good thing. Too bad, I was really liking the camera games.

    3. Driving has issues solely because they tried to make it realistic and failed. Sometimes it plays so good and sometimes really bad. I assume no one wants a realistic driving experience in a open world game. Also collisions and fog still cause weird fps drops.
    4. Shooting is not bad but gives you a hard time unless you unlock some skills.
A nice game overwhelmed by technical issues in the past but you can play it without hesitation now.

    It is not.

This point is actually important because if you keep comparing this with GTA you will fail so I suggest you to compare this game with AC series for more accurate feeling.

I'll start with the graphics. Although they are not as good as E3 demo, graphics are actually quite nice but there are some stuff like fake reflection that kinda throws you out of that universe but textures and waters are awesome. And by saying waters are awesome they are INCREDIBLY awesome. Seriously, Ubi should promote the hell out of people dealing with water stuff. Other than that graphics are not as bad as people say they are.

I'll agree with music though, it REALLY sucks. I mean I can understand that they don't want to spend a lot of money with copyright stuff but they should've thrown some famous hit songs here and there that will make you feel badass. You may have experienced some audio stuttering so for that I STRONGLY suggest you to do the following:

    -Create a shortcut of watchdogs.exe
-right click->properties->add "-disablepagefilecheck" without quotes at the end of the "target" section

Since this is a Ubi game, it is filled with bugs and optimization problems (as expected from Ubi) so I think you might wanna wait until a patch fix or Nvidia update for optimization but by adding -disablepagefilecheck, I managed to get all stuttering to stop and experienced an acceptable overall framerate

The story is actually quite good, I mean it is a little bit cliche but characters feel real (unlike Connor from AC3...god I hated that character...). Also hacking stuff is kinda fun but it might get repetitive over time. Also Ubi could have spent a bit more time and resources to make this game open as hell; for instance by adding hacking option to a lot of buildings to see inside of the apartments. I mean they have that in the game but they could've made it in every building and with random results (sometimes the apartment could be empty or could have several different scenes, like at first there are some couples arguing and at a later time those couples are divorcing etc...). Hacking through stuff to see everywhere is a giant privacy problem, one that could be used to create an amazingly immersive world. Random npc reactions around are good enough IMO so the city feels live enough.

Car physics feels really weak though. Most of the time it is just you driving a carton box around, it doesn't have the "car" feeling to it. Although there are a lot of side quests and collectibles around, it gets repetitive easily and you start to feel that they are just burden to you and skip them. On a side note, I STRONGLY suggest you to try out the spider-tank minigame, because that was THE most fun I've ever had in this game!

AI is really cool. They don't pop their heads for no reason and tactically they do fine against you (flanking and shooting at you the moment you pop your head out). Also I find the options of hacking before and while fighting satisfying. You can use cameras to see the battlefield and approach tactically to it by using different hacking tools on your opponents' technology.

Generally the game is actually quite nice and different, even though it doesn't have that "next gen" feeling to it so I can understand fellow reviewers' disappointment with it but I suggest you to buy this game and play it, you are not going to be sorry, as long as you don't see this game as "The ultimate hacking game" or "GTA-Killer" rather than "an action game in which you use hacking and guns to get around".

I'll be honest. I didn't like this game all that much. I didn't get into depth with all the main characters. The hacking was a good concept but the story was lackluster. The driving mechanics were passable.
The graphics downgrade was disappointing, but at least it could be re-enabled through a mod for PC.
I liked the gunfight mechanics. I liked how you could go for either guns blazing

The cut scenes are some of the best I've seen in a video game, very cinematic. Animations are really good, especially of that of NPCs, disregarding some.

Side missions, at first, seemed nice, but they get really repetitive later on.

Overall, the hype surrounding the game kinda made it a disappointment, but it was definitely enjoyable.

Anyway, Watch Dogs is a solid game. Solid hacking, gunplay, plot, setting, and graphics. While, like many others, I'm disappointed with the downgrade in graphics from the E3 2012 trailer, it still looks good, especially at night. Only thing I'm scared about is Ubi downgrading The Division, which would be blasphemy. The 'press button to hack' feature works pretty well, and I had some cool moments taking down traffic with them. It's not really as exciting as you'd think hacking would be, but it's alright.

Guns are good, with a wide, meaty selection, but apart from some scripted 'waves of enemies' moments, I pretty much beat the game with headshots from a pistol. If you can beat the game with an M1911 you get a quarter into the game, it's a bit broken. Stealth works well though, except why even use take downs if they attract every damn enemy when you use them on just one guy...

Environment-wise, Chicago feels like a gritty urban city with a wide variety of socio-economic classes. Pawnee...ehh, does every open world GTA-like game have to have a rural area a la San Andreas, who did it first? The story missions used Chicago well. Apart from that, I felt no need to explore the city; it was just darting from story mission to story mission. I didn't touch the vigilante missions (except for the introductory one) and unless I run out of games to play, I probably never will.

Finally, characters and story. The game is presented as ~ultra-hacking thriller~ but it barely has sense of humour. When it does, it comes from the stereotypical characters, which don't get me wrong, I liked, but it was a bit too predictable. Jordi Chin, the wise-cracking Asian-American; Clara Lille, the 'punk/underground' chick; T-Bone, the trailer trash. Now they did have unique features, particularly Clara and T-Bone, but surprisingly, my favourite character was Jordi.

Aiden Pearce himself? Bastard needs to smile. I mean, I get the game is meant to be hard-hitting and ponderous, but his stoicism just made him dull most of the time. He's a badass, sure, but I don't careeeeeeeeeeee about his damn nieeeeeeeeeeceeeeeeeeeee...why should I? I heard her talk for like 10 seconds. Why is her death so affecting? Take the time to make us care Ubisoft. Also Damien is **** annoying and not in an interesting way.

Yeah...game was solid, but not fantastic. Ubisoft needs to stop rushing/confusing endings as well, as yet again, Watch Dogs' is. I'd give it like, 6.8/10.

to the game it self: it tells the story abaut aidan apart from the mainquest and describes his person more passive, which has to be mentioned because even the magazines don't get that.
the missions are, ...well let's say not linear, but remind of crysis 2: they feel open but aren't.
city itself feels empty and sidemissions are not as interesting as we were shown.
the graphics are a bit ridiculous if we think of the specs. what concerns me the most is the bad port as expected. i really have to switch my graphic card from automatic to highspeed manually cause the program ignores that...this really gave me a shock on my first lunch when i saw the fps.

I previously gave this game a 4 due to several issues with the game. However, since then I've updated my driver [an update was not available when I first reviewed] and there has been a patch.

My biggest gripe was that the driving was near unplayable, since then the issue has been fixed. Now, I want to make clear that this is not the best driving game ever. The cars controls have been fixed to the point that they are functional to a reasonable level.

I was also unable to use a few graphics options due to bugs such as flickering lights, and motion blur not properly working. I am now able to turn all settings up to Ultra and run the game without issues.

The problem with frames dropping in areas with lots of dynamic lighting has also been cleared up. I think that same issue was what was causing the difficulties with driving the cars.

At any rate, the game is much better than it was in my initial review. It's not as good as GTA V by any stretch, but there are a lot of fun elements.

Hacking should be more involved than it is. I get one button for quick hacking options, but the hacking minigame for unlocking the areas could have been used more for some of the more stationary hacking situations, like ATMs and such.

Graphically it's very pretty, the shooting isn't bad. Again, it's not GTA V, but it took a few cues from that game and it works.

It's shorter than it should be. For an open world game the campaign is painfully short. There isn't a ton to do in the city, but it'll keep you busy for a week or so if you do everything. Again, it's not GTA V. The graphics are technically better GTA V, but the setting isn't as dynamic. Chicago isn't extremely colorful and diverse, it's got the same issue as GTA IV as the colors are rather bland and the neighborhoods look largely the same. It's realistic, but not visually all that appealing. Details are nice and it looks great on ultra, but the bland urban setting keeps it from being as interesting as GTA V.

The soundtrack isn't bad, but it's not great. I don't usually turn the tunes off, but rarely pay attention to them.

Don't expect a GTA clone. It looks a lot like one, and has taken some inspiration from GTA V in the interface and controls. I compared it visually, and yes you can steal cars and create havoc, but this is much more like Infamous meets Assassin's Creed. You're not nearly as nimble as either of those games, but mission structure, story, and the types of activities you'll be doing are more similar to those games than GTA.

This doesn't live up to the massive hype but, it's still a good game. Things have improved since it was released a great deal, just make sure you have the latest drivers for your GPU.

I recommend waiting for a Steam sale or a pretty good sized discount before picking it up. It's an ambitious title with a lot of neat elements. Using the environment through hacking is a lot of fun. This is essentially a superhero game, but your super power is your phone's ability to interact with the environment and NPCs rather than energy blasts. The morality system isn't the best I've seen, but it's not the worst either. It's no worse than the one in Infamous and works pretty much the same way. Your choices are essentially be Batman, or be the Punisher. I suppose you could go for all out murderous evil, but the game isn't really intended to be played that way. You can, but the mission structure is pretty much laid out for either Batman, or the Punisher, or some medium between the two. As with most morality type games, you're expected to go with one or the other for the most part.

Skill upgrades keep things interesting and work similarly to Infamous, though there are no purely good or evil powers that I'm aware of. It's more a case of picking what matches your playstyle the most, and then getting the rest just for the hell of it.

The game isn't near as bad as many of the current reviews make it sound. At present, the bulk of them are from the pre patch release. They are perfectly justified as the game should not have been released in the state it was in, but since then the issues have largely been resolved and the game has become a decent superhero game.

I recommend it, but I recommend a rent or picking it up on sale. It's a lot of fun, but not really worth paying full price for due to the length and bland setting. It's a cool idea and when it works it works well, definitely worth giving it a go when the price drops for sure.

I am a fan of Ubisoft, I love the Assassins Creed games.

Watch Dogs was misleading from the get go. It lured players into a fall sense of what type of game this was going to be. It turns out this game was restricted by the very thing that apparently made it fresh Hacking - while being able to hack into things is a cool concept, other than pressing a button at the right time, it in no way felt like a hack from a players 'gaming' perspective. (The game attempts to deal with this by giving what I think are supposed to be puzzles to break into networks, but are to easy to be granted that title.)

Hacking then directs the story. The story is what really lets this game down. A single Uncle putting his sister and her kid in danger, whilst in the process of trying to avenge the death of the other kid . It''s the dumbest story for a video game I have ever seen. To the point I stopped caring about why I was killing people and breaking into places.

What's worst is the games only difficulty is avoiding the police. That's it. And this doesn't matter what setting you are on. You use hacks to get away from them. This can be very difficult later in the game and may ruin the enjoyment for some.

I feel if the development team during the making process consulted players and asked for feedback during; they could have or would have made a very decent game.

Instead. If Sleeping Dogs was about Kung Fu to rip off Grand Theft Auto, then you have to think Watch Dogs was about Hacking to do the same. You cannot try and innovate by coping another working model and editing it. People will see right through this.

I think that's what is going on with all these mixed reviews. The "bugs" and low scores are just peoples way of venting frustration. I didn't have any bugs during the process of playing this game. The overtly high scores are I think other peoples way of combating the stupid low scores people are giving. This game is a solid 7.

Buy this game once its reduced in price. It was and is not worth the full RRP. Play it for the gaming experience that it is. It is not a horrible game and does not deserve the score of 4.6 by users.

Ubisoft should learn from this failure. Invest in better programmers, artists, story writers. They need to connect more with the people they make games for. Otherwise they risk repeating the same mistakes with future titles. Failure is hard on anyone, Especially a large company, but you come from a position of strength by admitting you didn't get it right.

I had to take my cards out of SLI in order to avoid random crashes. Game still plays on everything High with some Ultra settings and I only have 2x 560ti's. In one sentence this game is similar to AC but is a fresh start on a new story. Here is my list of pro's and cons.

    PROS:
    -Large(ish) open world.
-Controlling the city is a blast.
    -Good story
    -Graphics are great.
-Control scheme is intuitive and easy to use. Maybe too easy. Especially if you have a controller.
    -Missions are varied in context.

    Cons:
-Driving is atrocious. Like a newborn behind the wheel atrocious.
-While mission context varies, the way with which you approach them rarely changes.
-Open world is big but not GTA5 big.
-Hacking is fun but is far too simplified. Though this is good during chases or combat.
-Doesn't standout from the open world crowd.
    -Crashing bug in SLI/Crossfire

While I had high hopes that this games was going to be a new and exciting entry to the open world genre it just feels like another game in the long line of games in this genre. The story is pretty well told and fleshed out. The core mechanics work well. The game plays well. However, when playing you just don't get sucked in for hours on end like a big AAA title should. It is a good game that I would recommend to anyone. However, if you're on the fence then I would wait for a sale before purchasing.

Now the bad stuff, brace yourselves: Execution of the story is simply childish and feels like bull#hit (ubisoft does not evolve in story telling since AC2, on the contrary, it degrades). It's a good story but the way it's told and the way events happen in the game feel anything but realistic. Especially police chases. The Enemy AI is veeeeeeeery poorly written and does inhuman things from time to time. For ex: a sniper in a helicopter, who gives you headshots with 100% precision while the helicopter is flying with great speed. Plus it's almost every time one guy vs 20-30 in open combat. That. is. not. real. Ubisoft, get it already. On such serious idea of story telling and serious character the childish one man army idea does not fit. He's a hacker, not Chuck Norris. And then you find yourself not needing the hacking skills because you have to shoot the guys. And the hacking itself is as stupid as it gets. Now it would be fine if they just invented it that way, but they bragged that they'd talked with famous programmers and they do the hacking as realistic as possible - bull#hit again!

Verdict: 6.5 . Have to give 7 here because there is no 6.5. The idea of a god-like hacker in the city went to sh#t because Ubisoft clearly doesn't know how to execute such idea in a realistic and honest way. In the end you simply play as a headhunter who is pointed towards his targets buy other hackers. Just another assassin's creed. And there are a lot more things that suck about this game it's just getting too long. Thanks for reading, if you did :)

A lot of people have been giving this game very poor reviews based on launch reactions. As a result a lot of people colorfully added things such as "nothing to do in the city" which I might add is an outright lie and people saying things such as NPC's are lacking in intelligence, which is also a lie. I suspect this is the result of many people who could not actually play the game, but the fact that some people list their total time played regarding the game as two hours should be a big understanding.

Before I get into a review of the game itself, let me just say that PC version of the game is buggy to being outright unplayable right now (that should change at the end of the week or sometime next week when a patch comes out) as well as poor optimisation issues. Once this changes I will go ahead and amend this portion to let people know how well the game runs. So if you're looking to get the game, I would recommend waiting till they patch the game.

Now for the content, after playing about 6 hours I just got done with the main starter mission and just entering Act 1 (which took only about 15-25 minutes getting through btw) I spent most of my time actually using ctOS system to hack away at people's account's, profiling people to see what they've done and what their footprint is, stopping randomly generated crimes and hunting down people who just decided to cause a public altercation. The wealth of this content kept me quite busy when I finally realised I was playing way for over 4 hours before I decided to do one of the Digital Trips.

The one I did was about the Spider Tank and I can tell you it is as fun as it sounds. You control a Spider Tank and wreck havoc on the city itself. It is so fun causing chaos and destruction I had to force myself to get away from it when I realized I hadn't eaten for 8 hours. When there comes a time I have to force myself to stop playing in order to eat because I hadn't had anything in the last 8 hours, to me that is a great first impression.

Now about the hacking, a lot of people complain that the hacking is one button contextual notions and has nothing to do with real hacking. To those of you have similar criticisms or to those of you have seen them and agreed, might want to understand how script hacking works because most people need to understand one obvious thing, in a central computing system where the security is overarching and the same, such one button exploits are not only possible, they're inevitable. This is coming from someone who actually frequents hacker forums where these kinds of discussions are almost routine among the political forums.

So how is the hacking you might ask? It's fun as **** I can't tell you how much I began to laugh my ass off when I started a traffic jam by screwing with the freeway lighting system, which systematically ended up turning into a riot after a few people started punching each other after arguing for about five minutes about who's fault it is. It was a natural chain reaction that felt totally emergent and it literally made my insides hurt.

With the profiling there is a bit of satirization that makes me just laugh my ass off. One person I profiled had an internet footprint of actually purchasing a crap load of hentai... I'm not making this up, I literally died laughing when I saw it, it had an almost GTA style parody feel to it which made it all the more interesting.

Car's handle like **** not much to say, but then again with the keyboard and mouse I tend to hear car's don't work well together. Will give a better detailed impression once I try it with a gamepad, but suffice to say, the car's handle like they should, but just not optimized for keyboard and mouse.

Now just to let people know I have given this game a 7 simply for the fact that I have not played that much of the content so far (even though I get the feeling I'm going to be playing the game for the next 6 months and not get tired of it) but I will amend my score based on more gameplay and will probably rewrite this review as time goes by. As a result, the score will also change. But I have a feeling that this game will probably get a perfect 10 if not a 9 from me.

You hack a target and get a random result - the game will automatically rob a NPC of their money - no option to choose to rob them or, perhaps, give them money. Shallow gameplay - other than hacking, the game has nothing new - it's like a grinning turkey that cost £45.00 just to press a key and auto-hack a target to get their money, whether you want their money or not. You don't buy houses/hideouts - the game auto-magically creates them for you across the map. The game gives you the option to make money - but you have so little to spend the money on. Shallow, shallow, shallow game. I don't hate the game - I just truthfully believe that it fails to deliver anything other than the 'shallow' hacking element - take that away and the game is a fail. Without the 'shallow' hacking element, this game would be DOA. Other than that, I had no problems running the game - minor log-in problems. Just astonished at the lack of immersion - yeh, you can play poker, solve chess puzzles, come across a talking moose head - but just check the things to do in other games compared to what you can do in this game. I know to avoid a Watch Dogs 2 until it goes on sale. Expand

Then we come to the driving. The driving is mediocre and leaves much to be desire. This sucks because 60% of the game you're in a car so illlll.........

Watch Dogs being one of the most (if not the most) hyped games of 2014 so far, we have to wonder if it lives up to the hype train behind it, so hop on and lets find out! Chu-chu!
You play as a character named Aiden Pearce, a highly skilled criminal hacker in a futuristic day Chigaco which is hyper-connected to a centralized system called CtOS. After his niece is killed in an attempt to shut Aiden Pearce down for good, Aiden seeks to bring his own form of justice to the ones who caused it making him a vigilante.
From the start of the game you are thrown into a short (and I mean short) tutorial mission, afterwords being given a huge city to run around and explore. You can tell Ubisoft put lots of effort into this games environment because it feels alive. From citizens taking on random actions such as forgetting coffee on the roof of their car which they go back to retrieve or a police chase soaring past you while you're using your phone to manipulate the world in your favour. This leads to many interesting game mechanics, the obvious one being a highly skilled hacker with the entire city at your fingertips.

Hacking traffic lights to cause major crashes, stopping and starting trains, and blacking out the city with your smart-phone to help escape or pursue left me feeling extremely powerful. Who thought such a tiny concept could leave such a huge impact to both the player and the in-game world. Now, an in-game progression wheel does limit your hacking abilities until you can level up to gain skill points which can then be allocated into a skill tree but a really neat thing that Ubisoft did is that once you beat a couple of missions in the game, you unlock ALL the skills. This means it doesn't require you to become a certain level or beat a certain side task. All you need are the appropriate skill points and you can choose what your strengths are. The system isn't extremely in depth but you can tell effort was put in to try and balance it.
Another system that was brought into Watch Dogs open-world game was a morality system. Stopping petty crimes and saving peoples lives grants you vigilante status, meaning citizens will often come to you and take pictures. While killing citizens and causing chaos leaves you to be a villain, causing citizens to be fearful and more likely to call the police on you.

This game is definitely huge, Ubisoft was right about that. The sad thing is, the game looks heavily downgraded from their E3 demos which seems to follow their recent bait and switch advertising techniques. Along with a PC port that causes fps lag even on high end computers and a bunch of bugs/crashed even after first day patches really makes it hard to recommend the PC version. I haven't played the console versions of the game and after having my save file become corrupted due to a known game breaking bug, I don't think I want to go out and purchase a console copy, no matter the hours of entertainment the game gave me.

One thing I never got to try was the unique multiplayer, pitting hackers versus hackers sounds amazing. Definitely something I might watch online but playing through the game again to get my save back isn't appealing enough.

I would rate Watch Dogs for the PC a 7/10, boosting it up to an 8 if the bugs/optimization are fixed.

Disclosures: This game was obtained via publisher and reviewed on the PC. Approximately 6 hours of play was devoted to single-player modes and 0 hours of play to multiplayer modes.

Parents: According to the ESRB, this game contains: Blood, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol. There's no question that this game is absolutely intended for adults and no children should play or watch. Some scenes reference sexual and violent manners, even walking down the street with the profiler on can reveals possible offensive material. I still would consider the GTA series to be far worse.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing: Subtitles are available for all of the dialogue—and there's a lot. Multiple languages are supported as well. I have not personally tested them however so things may very from language to language.

I have picked up the game without paying the full price for it, so far i reached act 2 and this is what i have to say about the game. The game itself is amazing the city feels alive with plenty side missions etc, i do not recommend picking up the game for PC simply because its poorly optimized. Apparently the 4.6 AMD beta drivers help boost the fps and gameplay.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Watch dogs is a truly unique game which provides a great open world to explore and a hacking experience which is uncommon in modern day games. However, it does have many bugs in its game play such as lag and stutter issues. The people who are complaining about their unbearable game play and giving it 0/10 for just that reason should try to be more patient because Ubisoft are working on updates to fix those issues. The combat system in watch dogs is well refined with the addition of focus. Also, the driving in the game feels very realistic unlike GTA V where the driving was ridiculously sensitive (im not going against GTA V in anyway but Watch dogs driving mechanics feel right). Car chases in the game are always entertaining because of the many ways you can take down cars from ramming to road spikes to disable wheels. However, after about halfway through the storyline hacking becomes quite repetitive and the storyline is not very engaging to the player which did not live up to the expectations during the long wait for this game. Overall Watch dogs is a great game which provides great 3rd person action but could use a few more tweaks to make game play more enjoyable. Which is why i give a 7/10 Expand

    Let's face it:
    - Uplay ruined the game with their servers, but that isn't Watch Dogs' fault.
    - The PC Optimize - wow, just wauw. Luckly I have a SLI GeForce setup, but others haven't - it just doesn't work. A high-end graphic-card can't even play Watch Dogs stabil at 30 FPS on medium/settings. Hope they will fix it like they did with AC4: BF on PC.

7.5/10 Expand

Despite all the bad reviews I actually enjoyed the game, the story was great. Yes its not optimized wary well but I was still able to run it on high with about 60 fps with my 770. Assassin’s creed 4 was far worse. And I agree Ubisoft needs to focus more on optimisation WAY MORE. But still I think this game was great and it defiantly does not deserve a 0.

When Watch Dogs works, it works really, really well; when it doesn't work it flops spectacularly. The game is seemingly getting a lot of bad press for no real reason, but it isn't quite that bad. However, it isn't particularly great either.

The game's selling point (and its best moments) all come from the new hacking mechanics, which are quite well implemented. Those of you who complain about its simplicity need to keep in mind actual hacking is incredibly time-consuming and not suitable for a blockbuster video game. The ease of actually hacking things combined with a simple control scheme make jumping from camera to camera exceptionally easy, and the game shines in combat sections where you can scope everything out- maybe even knock a couple enemies off the battlefield with a generator explosion, or distract one by texting him about his heart transplant. These smaller conflicts can also be avoided entirely through stealth and there is a lot of freedom in each individual combat situation. I would have liked to see more segments with vertical movement involved, but overall the smaller combat missions with hacking are very fun: hacking brings something new to the table and is well implemented.

The rest of the game suffers. not only because it is mostly imitation of other open world games but because sometimes elements are poorly implemented. The driving system could seriously use some work; cars are slow to respond and rarely work as you want them to, making some of the driving missions frustratingly annoying. The side missions are unremarkable: you have the choice of ambushing a convoy, more small combat missions, incapacitating a criminal, or driving a car somewhere. They seem to repeat themselves over and over (I think there is seriously only 3 scenarios for the 'crime detected' side missions), but they can be a welcome reprieve. The rest of the minor missions are hit-or-miss: some, like the 'phone apps' NVZN and Cash Run, fit well with the game's theme and are enjoyable for a brief amount of time. Others, like a cup game and poker, make no sense in the context of the game.

The campaign is passable overall, but it has some seriously low points. Starting around Act 3 (out of 5), things become fairly cookie-cutter, and the ending left a bad taste in my mouth. It's really nothing you haven't seen before.

Overall, Watch Dogs would be a pass if not for the excellent hacking mechanics that play such a big role in only certain parts of the game. I would try it and see if you enjoy it; if you can get past some of its open world shortcomings it's good fun.

I feel the negativity seen in these "reviews" is purely the fault of the hype. That isn't to say that some of it isn't justified, but i don't think many of the player reviews have been completely fair.

Sure there were some technical issues at launch for PC, and sure the graphics aren't quite the leap into "next gen" as many of us had hoped. Sure the options are limited in terms of customization and online, but when you get past everything the game DOESN'T let you do that you thought or hoped it would, you CAN have quite a bit of fun with it.

My major complaint with the game is that I wish the online would have been expanded and more thoroughly realized, but this is a first installment in a completely new franchise and as such it is highly conceptual. While it often falls short of it's potential, some of Watch Dog's strange choices (Strange as open city sandbox games go) do begin to make sense as you continue to play IF you keep and open mind.

Now before I go any further, please notice that I only gave the game a score of seven. I am not arguing that it's a definitive next gen title, but rather that for what it is, it's nowhere near as bad as people have made it out to be. Once you filter through your pre-conceptions and get past all the pie in the sky promises and expectations your local Gamestop clerk indoctrinated you with to get you to pre-order, you'll find a fairly decent game that can actually pretty fun to mess around with.

I will concede to one poster that the music choices you have while driving are limited. (And that they're meh!) Those of us used to GTA and Saints Row like our "radio stations" and the variety the offer. Instead you get whatever Aiden has downloaded to his mobile streamed in the vehicle. It was odd at first, but when you think about it most of us do the whole Bluetooth / Pandora thing these days anyhow. It sort of fits in a world where technological modernization is the norm. The exception being the interviews with the mayor you're randomly forced to listen to.

The NPCs are nuts. I've enjoyed the shootouts so far, but every now and then you either hear something REALLY stupid said, hear dialogue repeated excessively or see clones everywhere. Once I intervened in a crime and while rushing to the victims rescue I realized both NPC's looked identical! It was a poor design flaw, but comical nonetheless. These types of things happened occasionally but not so consistently for me that it became a problem.

The story so far hasn't really grabbed me. Its interesting to see the CTOS technological systems effect on the city, and it makes you think about where things are advancing for us in the real world. THE SINGULARITY! OH NOES! All craziness aside its enough to make you a little paranoid as to wonder who could be looking at your texts or listening to your phone calls...... Good thing we have the NSA to keep us saf--...... Crap....

I think the biggest letdown for me was the online. Unlike other open world games like GTA, RDR and SR the online in watchdogs isn't separated from the game's story mode meaning no real customization, no great co-op, etc. lot of missed potential, but honestly I felt the game was more reminiscent of Far Cry 3 set in a city in third person. Hacking the CTOS towers to open up the maps, gang hideouts and convoys, and even the "crafting" felt a lot like FC3 to me in terms of the structure. Although the crafting was just... there... and the lack of customization to the weapons was very disappointing.. Ubi has implemented these types of features quite well with Far Cry 3 and Assassins Creed. it's a shame the same amount of polish didn't go into Watch Dogs.

That brings me to combat. I seriously don't know what people's gripes with the cover system were about. I've had no issues. Also the driving is not as bad as the trolls posting red dot reviews on this game are claiming. just depends on the vehicle, and whether you drive sensibly or like a moron.

The hacking isn't bad either. It's simple, and nothing you haven't seen before in some form or another in some other game, but I guess some people went and learned binary just so they could pwn Watch Dogs like a boss. It's not incredible, but its a bit deeper than your sisters facebook password.

Regardless of what people would have you believe, the game is not a complete failure. It's no GTA or Saints Row, but I honestly don't think it was intended to be. It's a little bit like mashing up concepts from Far Cry 3, Assassins Creed, mixing in some awkward yet simple "hacking" mechanics and pouring it all in a Chicago shaped sandbox. it isn't the orgasmic experience some expected, but it is by no means horrible

Most realistic open world game I played. Car driving is smooth. Music is very good. Characters that won't leave you indifferent. Beautiful city, weather changes, daytimes change. Hacking features are really special thing of this game.

Fun game to play but not a masterpiece. If you are waiting for a new game to play then pick it up for a few hours of fun, but don't bother if you are looking for a complex game with an in depth story line. Overall, if you want a GTA style game and are looking for a new game to play then pick it up, but otherwise, stay away.

Not a bad game as people have been calling it, its certainly not gta 5 but the story is good enough to hold your focus and the bugs aren't even notable after a while. People give it a bad rap because of how amazing Gta 5 was and how this was nothing in comparison.

Nothing like the graphics shown in E3 shows of the previous years.
Multiplayer is awesome in how many games have you been to other people's game and beat the **** out of them(This new concept is definitely a cult concept).

Sound & Music: OK, not special.
Gameplay: Perfectly functional for me. Hardly groundbreaking, but OK.
Car controls: Not good, but doable, especially with a controller. Hope they'll patch this up.

I hesitated buying Watch Dogs after the onslaught of complaints, but now that have it, I do not regret the purchase (for PC). AMD apparently has problems, so I can understand the frustrations there, and I hope this will be sorted out. My setup works without a hitch. Also, the PC version looks better than PS4, I've seen both. This is a decent game - not a great one, but certainly not the disaster some people make it to be!

I did after a while, and then it wasn't quite as bad... but there are several things about the game that are lacking, and yet I still found it very entertaining... I probably wouldn't recommend buying it for $60, but if you see it on sale for $30, I personally think it's worth it

Cons: the driving could have been much better, the game is a resource hog (with 12GB of RAM, I had to reenable swapping on my system in order to be able to play it), police chases can be extremely frustrating (especially with the helicopters with snipers)

Pros: I personally enjoyed the story and although the missions were repetitive, I still enjoyed playing through them, the game looks and feels great if you've got the hardware to run it, the side challenges can be fun and challenging, and they do offer some benefit to the game play... this includes the various investigations, etc...

GTA would never be like Watch Dogs due to its lack of sophistication and obsession with gang violence. Walking the streets of Watch Dogs' Chicago might initially look and feel like GTA, but it is quite different. For a start the game provides you with the names, occupation, salary and some random bit of information (maybe they are into dog grooming) of all the citizens you walk past on the street. This humanises the citizen a little, but the citizens will help you in a minor way if you don't kill them on purpose. Because if your reputation is good with them then they won't immediately report you when they see you with a gun or when driving recklessly. This means that you start to respect the lives of the people around you, something that I haven't experienced in an open world game before. Normally my favourite thing to do is to drive down a pavement and kill as many joggers as I can, but in Watch Dogs I haven't done this because I don't want the hit to my reputation. I actively avoid killing people in car chases and avoid using explosives and causing collateral damage.

Many reviewers have complained about the unnecessary stealth sections, but in a similar way to the encouragement to not kill civilians, I found this to be a refreshing change to both GTA's gang warfare and Saint Row's madness. It encourages more of a Splinter Cell style of gameplay where you explore the area, setup your encounter and then execute a plan, often with gadgets to aid you. Watch Dogs is not about killing hookers or running around naked. It is about exploring a more realistic city and manipulating its systems.

The hacking in Watch Dogs is more limited than I would have liked. I really wanted to steal from the rich and give it to the poor, but this isn't possible as you can't give money or dig into a civilian's life like that. The citizens exist, but not beyond their name, age, occupation and income value. These aren't people you can follow home to meet the family. It would be overly to be able to be more intrusive into the civilian's lives, but obviously this shows the limitations of the current game simulation. Hopefully in sequels Ubisoft will start opening this up, but at the moment you are limited to playing with traffic lights, blowing stuff up, changing traffic lights, controlling automatic bollards and playing with computer controlled bridges.

For the PC version you need to get the graphics patch as Ubisoft has purposefully changed and degraded the graphics on the PC version of Watch Dogs to make it look similar to the console releases. To achieve this they removed a few shaders, changed the fogging effects, the lighting, shadows and degraded the texture quality. Get the community graphics mod, trust me. Plus it runs better with the mod.

Some of the side quests are a little lame, but it is a big game with many different side missions, Chess puzzles, drinking games, poker that you can partially cheat on, slot machines that you can't hack, gang racing matches, gang hideout missions and random crimes to stop. One of the unique Watch Dogs experiences is driving around and then having another player invade your game. This takes the form of another player connecting to your game and you having to find them before a progress bar reaches its limit. Then when you find them, you have to chase them down. This is a fun and sometimes an annoying surprise, but refreshing and different as it doesn't feel scripted or forced. Hacking is the central theme of the game and this enforces that theme more than anything else that Watch Dogs does.

There is an Android and iOS app that allows tablet and phone users the ability to connect to games and play a cat and mouse game where the app user tries to control the city resources to catch the hacker, but as the hacker I had so many disconnects that it wasn't worth my time to play. I suspect players were disconnecting before I won the matches because Watch Dogs takes experience points from players for poor performance.

Some of the characters in Watch Dogs lengthy story are cool like his sister and nephew, and his ex partner Damien, but Pearce himself is very bland and although given a reason to hunt down the people who tried to kill him, the game never shows why he is drawn to hacking as an individual or why he is called a vigilante and not just a normal hacker or criminal by the police. I would have liked to see more motivation and more demonstration on the vigilante part of his character. Or even an explanation of how he got the vigilante label.

Am I disappointed by this game's graphics? A bit, I expected better. Did I try to compare it to the E3 demo? no, because the point is not to compare the game to it's E3 demo, it is TO RATE THE GAME AS IT IS.
The whole "fake E3 demo" thing doesnt show that this game is bad, it shows that some guys at ubisoft are liars. You know what? welcome to the world kiddoes, because it is common knowledge to not believe everything you see or hear !
And it's not the first time there are blatant differences between an E3 demo of a game and the published game itself.
There are, I'll admit, some issues with the game performance wise, I had some lag spikes myself, however, Skyrim has lag spikes too, do you see me giving it a 0/10 because of that? no!
I haven't had any other problems apart from some very rare crashes (only three times during my playthrough of the game).
If you had any more than that, considering the average age of the people who reviewed, I'm guessing you didn't check to see if your PC had the minimum specs for running the game.

This was my message to the +1000 who came here just to give this game a 0/10

    Now to my review.
The game is quite good, the gameplay is innovative and interesting, though there are some problems like the fact that police can sometimes be evaded too easily with the use of a boat.
The game comes loaded with side content: the girl rescue missions, the Augmented Reality mini games the High-on-drugs mini-games.
It's definitely a fun game to play, even if it doesnt last very long.
Gunplay wise, I appreciate the fact that you can use cover everywhere and stealthily approach your enemies, though I believe that maybe having access to 20 weapons at once is a bit exaggerated.
I personally thought that Aiden Pierce was quite a realistic character (obviously not many people think the same way), he shows that he has human emotions and throughout the game he has difficulties coming to terms with his actions.
I personally love the way cars handle, I might as well remind you that this is NOT a racing game.

Would I recommend this game for purchase? Absolutely, if you like GTA-like games that is, However I strongly recommend you try out Saints Row and Sleeping Dogs first if you haven't already because those two games deserve more praise than this one.
Still, this game is far from bad and shame on the people who say otherwise.

Driving a car is pretty **** After I upgraded my graphics card it was a bit better but still ****.

So if you have set up your details too high then you'll probably have a car which will steer very crazy.

Apart from the small main story with just some missions (compare GTA's more than 100 missions, here about 50 or less I don't know exactly) and the opportunity which isn't existing. There are some online missions which you can play with friends but, well, there is nothing for single players.

All in all it's okay, graphics amazing, it's worth a try. Weapons are cool, story okay but not more. But it's not worth 70€ for digital deluxe edition and not 60€ for the standard edition.

As everyone said, it is badly optimized for PC. I could only enjoy it after using a joystick. Also, it doesn't deliver it's best performance even on a good machine, keeps randomly lagging and with some lights/shadows bugs.

They could have improved many of the challenges and the gameplay, so it wouldn't get that repetitive. With so many flat challenges, it seems more like a fun and extensive demo than a full developed game.

Then, the story starts really interesting but then gets clichéd to oblivion.

I played that game a few years ago. It was not the best game I have ever played in my life. But it brought me entertainment. It is certainly not a very remarkable game.

The story in game was really good. Game work well on modern PC. Really annoying was system of hiding behind covers. Once you try to hide and you will either miraculously peel off the cover or you will run from one to the other.

Expand

A typical Ubisoft game no more, no less. I wonder why it is keeping gain so much hate even today, 7 years afterwards. Dowdy plot, boring characters, poor gameplay mechanics - everything in the best traditions of Assassin's Creed games, nothing new. But... That neo-noir style the game was made in kept me glued to screen throughout whole campaign. Only because of aesthetics i'll give it 7/10.

Watch Dogs - '' Hacker game about the future world ''

The game surprised me the most with its details and how the surrounding future will look. When I started talking about the story of the game, I personally enjoyed the start of the game, the game felt at first like a movie series, I mean the cutscenes. The goal of the game's story is about revenge and fighting corrupt bandits and so on, but story - writing was sometimes funny or dumb, without logic. Personally, I liked and disliked how they made the game's gameplay. The most interesting thing was to hack certain things you could. The story mission of the game was very boring, those missions kept repeating only there were a few missions that really felt like a good game, even the side missions were better than the story mission was, and some game missions were repetitive and were boring. But what I really disliked in the game, the Auto Aim, on the PC platform - WHAT Really? Auto Aim annoyed me a lot because it was too easy to play and very uncomfortable. The enemy's AI was very bad, they only knew how to shoot very accurately and think dumb. The game had quite a few bugs that interfered with playing the game.

So the game isn’t too bad I still remember what event happens that day, when Ubisoft cheated players that Watch Dogs would have brutally good graphics, but things were different. I may have played the older version, maybe everything is fine now, but I wanted to start with the older version. I enjoyed the details of the city and that life in the game felt like the future. The game has problems, and it is not the best. I would dedicate 7/10 to this game.

Ignoring all the downgrading crap Ubisoft pulled on everyone.... The idea is amazing, a good start for a nice franchise of games. The story was good enough for me, the gameplay was fun but not amazing, the worst part for me was the setting. The city was just boring and damp, no real will to go around and explore honestly. The second and third games had a way better

A game with an interesting story and decent game play, but a lacking open world. The story kept me interested until the end with enjoyable missions and memorable characters. My biggest issue with this game is that after everything with the story and side missions are done, there isn't anything else interesting to do. This isn't the kind of open world game where you can simply wander the world and find something to play with. The NPC AI is basic. The only good part about the AI is how the police AI can weave traffic like it's nothing, something all other games with vehicular pursuit I've played struggle with. Overall, I enjoyed it, and it's a game worth playing for the story and missions. Expand

Watch Dogs were so over-hyped and in the end didn't deliver. But it's not a bad game, just not a great one.

I've played this game just because get it free in EGS and don't have any hope I like it. But, it was interesting experience and after all this years I can say that WD series do the same story as AC series - strange but interesting first game, great second game and frustrating third.

Visual (7/10): So graphics is good, but as I know at the start there were too many problems and differences between prebuild and the game, even years after release on new videocard - the game lack optimization. Music was not very memorable, it was average just for atmosphere. Interface and visual design was ok, I don't feel the city is living I feel like it's my big sandbox, similar feeling I had in Prorotype years ago.

Gameplay (6/10): Gameplay is not balanced, first mission on stadium - WOW, hacking city - WOW, virtual drug mini-games - cool, but it's first couple of hours in game, than you need to play a bit boring linear storyline, a hue minus of the game balance - in the end game it's better and easier to kill everyone using weapons rather than do some hacking staff and it's really frustrating, because WD is bad shooter game with strange physics.
Story (7/10) Story is very average, but I really like characters and interaction between them. Really good job for direction some missions , very cinematographic. And it was a bit interesting at the beginning to understand how everything works with this cityOS. All other things are just average - we are god guys, all others are bad guys, and of course super bad guy who will tell us the plan before shoot us.

So all in all WD is not an AAA game, but it was good AA game with some unique mechanics that I really like. and that's why I've tried other games. So like first AC this game is not balanced, was not optimized a lot, and have some boring moments in a super serious story, but I feel that developers and designers really like what they did and tried their bests. I think I can recommend this game to everyone who likes open-world games, or want to check WD series. But it's not a masterpiece or must play game, just good ambiguous game.

I played Watch Dogs on the PS3 when it was first released, at first I was sad about the downgrade but considering that I now know a lot about gaming and the technology behind it I realised for a PS3 game it was above par. So a few years after I decided to play it on PC, I tried it on max settings and played around with some mods and enjoyed the story still to this day.

This is a game that deserves a second chance, this needs to be Remade, I love the idea of a Lone Vigilant cleaning up the streets of Chicago using Hacking as his weapon. This game shows so much potential but was limited by the technology and possibly the creativity of its time.

If I ever get into the gaming industry and somehow end up in Ubisoft, this is the first project I want to tackle. This game can be so much more.

But for what it is, it is a fun game, with a deep story that doesn't pull its punches, Aiden Pearce is a Bad@ss with a dark past...Ok, this sounds generic, but believe it or not, it's true.
Every time I play it I can just play the story threw with no problem it's not a hassle at all, perhaps it's just because I like the premise.

There are a few bugs you'll encounter and they are irritating, literally, the end credits screen bugs out.

Other Things like the characters the music, sound effects, weapons, and hacking enemies. they are really great, they are just let down by some poor level and mission design, it's not as cinematic or interactive as you think like an Assassin's Creed Game.

The music is really good, it's one of my favourites in gaming, once you hit the helicopter chase scene you'll realise that you like the vibe and the music.

Ubisoft, give Aiden Pearce a Second Chance, this is the perfect game worthy of a Remake.

Ubisoft's flagship title has a really, really repulsive protagonist. The entire storyline feels like it was cranked out of a automated story generator. On the positive side, Watch Dogs looks really good on PC, especially after modding the graphics to match the visual splendor of the early E3 demos. [Aug 2014]

There are some strong gameplay elements in Watch Dogs, but overall it's merely an adequate open world game. [July 2014, p.46]

Nothing could have realistically lived up to the immense level of hype that Ubisoft stirred up for this game, and while I value strong narratives and envelope-pushing technological advancements, I place just as much importance in the ability to enjoy the gameplay that's being offered to me. Watch Dogs is one of the more exciting sandbox games of the last few years, and if this is to become Ubisoft's next big franchise, I'm excited to see where they take it.
