Intelligent game-play, great story, aggressive combat system, proper music. This is hardcore. Gritty, suspenseful, touching and at time hilarious, most of my weekend was absolutely ruined because I wouldn't get up from playing Wasteland 2.

Sure there are a few bugs here and there (what game doesnt?), but nothing that took away from my absolute joy of playing.

I am very optimistic about the future of CRPGs now that Kickstarter along with InXile and Hairbrained Schemes proved it can be done!

I have to be honest, at first, I wasn't sure if I like it.
After spending some hours with it though I think it's great and definitely lives up to its namesake and similar games like the Fallout series (1 and 2, let's ignore anything that came thereafter because it was a departure from this type of game)

After spending some hours with it though I think it's great and definitely lives up to its namesake and similar games like the Fallout series (1 and 2, let's ignore anything that came thereafter because it was a departure from this type of game)

    The Plot:
It's pretty much what you would expect from your post apocalyptic story line. The characters are a healthy mix of serious and fun, pretty much what I would have expected. The world is believable and yet never overly serious. It's enjoyable and frames the action and core game play well.

    The core experience:
I started playing on Ranger Difficulty. At first, I was shocked at how hard it seemed to be. I was constantly scrimping for ammo and trying not to get blown to bits. But well, I didn't give up. Instead, I re-adjusted my strategy. It worked. I can't say I am swimming in ammo but as long as you're not going gung ho on everything and everyone you meet and always do a "risk assessment" you will do just fine. (It's worth re-visiting areas to clean out safes as well!)
I think the game is hard but most definitely fair.

    The tech:
I helped kick-start the game but never touched it until it's final release. Perhaps that's the reason for some of the more negative reviews? Hard to say...
Being a game dev myself I've come to the point where I rather wait until something is done so I can enjoy the final experience.
I've spend 14 hours playing so far and the game has been extremely stable. Not a single crash or technical issue, so I'm most happy from that perspective.
Graphics and Audio design are great. They're not high end but they absolutely do the job. I very much love the visual aspect of the game. Audio design also works very well. The only thing that ever freaked me out a bit are the goats. But then, that's intended... Right?

    Overall:
I think it's a very well executed game. I enjoy the encounters, they force you to work on your strategy and think before you shoot. It doesn't need a lot of the modern baggage but instead concentrates on the core game play instead. I like that. Back to the roots and such...

I love finding those little references to it's great predecessors everywhere as well.

So yes. Definitely a good game. It's been way too long since I've had the chance to play a game like this. The only other recent contender worth mentioning would be Halfway. An excellent little gem as well.

Wasteland 2 is a retro role-playing game experience, and that won't be to every RPG gamer's taste. I personally love it. You can write your own character bios and make a party that is truly unique. One negative review here mentions this as a drawback, that the characters you create have no real backstories and therefore are not memorable. Well I created four very unique characters with awesome backstories that I wrote myself. Combine this with the option of importing custom portraits, and you have the tools needed to create some very cool post-apocalyptic badasses who will be memorable with a little creativity and imagination.

Another aspect of Wasteland 2 that's cool and retro is the text descriptions of places you visit. Most games are satisfied with just visually revealing a new area for you to explore. Wasteland 2 also adds a paragraph or two of well written text descriptions that definitely add to the world immersion. Sure you can graphically see how a mysterious cave entrance looks when you encounter it, but to also read about the smell of stale air and the foreboding sense of dread it gives you just adds so much detail to an already interesting world.

So that's just a couple of things that Wasteland 2 does that makes it so great and so retro. Newer gamers will no doubt find this game tedious and slow. Older gamers will find it refreshing. It's as simple as that. And please people, stop rating a game on how poorly it runs on your system. It's usually not the developer's fault, or at least it has nothing to do with the actual quality of the game. If it doesn't work on your system and you can't play it, then how can you rate it (I'm looking at you Chowda)?!? Of course it's frustrating to purchase software that you can't immediately play, but technical issues don't equate to a bad game.

I would say the game is comparable to something like the new XCOM games, or Fallout Tactics. So if you like those sorts of games, this is for you. LOT of options for character creation, and huge replay value as a lot of what you do can significant alter the plot of the game later on.

I gave it a 9/10 for really only one reason. The character model graphics are awful. I mean really... really awful... I just don't understand why they couldn't have put a bit more effort into them. But then again, Gameplay>Graphics so, enjoy. Maybe someone will come out with a mod that makes the character models not suck.

Combat is fun and engaging, the skill system is interesting and works well. The game is exceptionally well written and doesn't belittle its audience, as most games these days tend to. Only down side is that the graphics aren't the best when compared to other titles.

The graphics aren't special, and a lot of the character script is not voice acted, but the cost cutting in these cosmetic departments has allowed for more resources to be spent in making this game a long lasting adventure with great depth, role playing potential, and strategic options.

While not perfect (there is no such thing as a perfect game), it is a worthy sequel to the original Wasteland. There is a hidden depth in character creation and game mechanics that many overlook, but I found refreshing. Not a game for everyone probably, but more than satisfied to have backed the project on Kickstarter.

The writing is great, and the voice acting is usually decent (there's some dodgy examples). The story starts off a bit slow but by half way is really quite engaging. There's some very memorable characters, and your followers often have interesting things to say about the environment and your decisions.

Yeah, the game is a bit divisive - I think some people expected Xcom, and others Fallout 1/2, all games with much higher budgets than this. Even Divinity: Original Sin had a budget of around 10-12 million USD (the Kickstarter was for a product to show investors) unlike Wasteland 2's 6 million (including Early Access sales). But a lot of love went into the game.

The skill system is a bit much at first, and some skills could probably be rolled together to streamline, but it's cool having a bunch of different specialists in your team. The attributes could also probably have more of an effect on your skills, but the current system allows for more open roleplaying (e.g. a guy with no charisma still being a kiss ass, it's possible).

Overall, it's a great CRPG in the vein of WL1 and the original Fallouts. It probably still needs a bit of work patch-wise, and some design decisions may not appeal to everyone, but I think if you're into the older CRPGs you're in for a great time.

It is often necessary to move an item to a character with a particular skill and then again to switch back that item. Sometimes equipped items are not longer equipped, which signifies a bug. It is annoying equip the item again on the character. Skills like Demolition, Alarm Disarming are a risk to use and will require a lot of save-load sequences in order to handle the situation well. The audio effects are the only area where I get the impression of indie production values. I weighed all that against the fact that this is a USD $40 new release and USD $60 is now the norm for AAA productions in determining my score.

My only sage advice: have a strategy going into the game re: character development, trying to develop one as you go will lead to longer grinds for experience and take away from the pacing.

The wasteland is an interesting place to discover, full of both dilemma's and humor. You have to make difficult, morally ambiguous decisions and those can have consequences immediately or much later in the game.

You start out with a party of 4 rangers you create from scratch and you can recruit up to 3 additional NPC companions (or more if you dump a ranger or one gets killed). Character creation is fantastic. You get a lot of different options and each can be useful for solving different situations. You can create a balanced unit or create 4 elite soldiers all specialized in assault rifles, pistols, ... and rely on recruitable NPC's for other skills.

These choices influence your possibilities during the squad based tactical combat. There are different weapon, armor and ammo types, there is strategic positioning, ... The only thing they should have added was the targeting of individual body parts (fallout style).

Wasteland 2 has got it's own style and feeling and that's good. InExile did a great job in my view!

Compared to the original Fallout games, I didn't feel like the story was as engaging, or the characters as memorable. The system is a little more modern, but often irritating as some actions just waste the player's time for basically no reason. It'd also be nice to be able to enter turn based mode for certain actions, like if a character is bleeding out after a battle. I will say though, that skills in Wasteland 2 are more consistently useful than in the original Fallout games.

Compared to Divinity, I personally like the atmosphere and game world in this one better, but the Divinity combat system wins hands down. Also, while I thought the crafting system in Divinity could use some work, there's almost no crafting to speak of here, even though I think it would make sense thematically.

All told, Wasteland 2 is a solid game. Not perfect, but solid.

The gameplay is good. There is strategic fighting. People die in gruesome and satisfying ways. Objects get destroyed, explosions and energy charges look cool. Parts of environment can be destroyed.
That said, there is no proning. There are no reaction buttons (like in Fallout Tactics). The covering system is outwright broken (no cover where should be, too easy to hit covered objects). Some guns don`t have burst mode when they should. I`d say that the gameplay in WL2 requires a rework because the combat is really a roulette even to a Fallout fan.I wanted to see WL/Fallout get more with the times. I wanted to see some ideas from say XCOM, nothing like that actually hapenned. The ally NPCs turn hostile everytime you hit them (friendly fire).Critical hits are not portrayed graphically in any form other than red figures. You cannot hit individual body parts other than head - which has no influence on sight anyhow. The effects such as bleeding, shock, concussion are painfully random. There are only 3 types of energy weapons. Also, the damage they do is nonsensical. There is no AP/JHP ammo. The close range aim penalty for Assault Rifles and Sniper Rifles is nonsensical. Why don`t some enemies drop loot when killed?!You kill a guy carrying a minigun but as soon as you get to his dead body he`s empty….???Tha Attritubes system heavily prefers Speed, Strenght and Awareness. Other attributes are of no real meaning to gameplay or story. You will not be able to choose special dialogue options even if you choose high Intelligence. You can be a great Surgeon/Field medic with 3 intelligence. You can have 4 NPCs with you even if you have 2 Charisma. And so on.Moreover, in conversations, once you said something you can`t return to certain themes.. The characters can choose their clothes but the armor they wear is not shown - so I wear Power Armor but still look like a light armed commando. Really made me scratch my head on this one. Why did the developpers think that I`d like my player to wear jeans more than Power Armor…someone ask them please.
    STORY
I played Ranger difficulty. In every single map I was outgunned and outnumbered. Each and every type of enemy is better equipped and better trained than the Desert Rangers. No difference if you fight raiders, robbers, militia, the military commando or androids - all are big threat to your team every time. The animals such as badgers are enemies as fearsome as the Deathclaws in Fallout which is silly. Sometimes the quests broke because I did things out of the order - for example if I had a conversation with the quest giver AFTER I killed his enemy, he didn`t notice it or thank me nor could I tell him I did him a favor. No, you need to do the quests in a certain order or you`re in for a loss of your gaming time and XP.I cannot fathom why did the developpers think than boxes, crates and doors need to “level up” with the player. You can`t just get the skills to a certain level, you have to constantly work on them. It is not like a crate hiding a good assault rifle needs level 8 lockpicking to be opened. The difficulty depends sheerly on what level you are. So you open that box that required 10 lockpicking and you get 10 rounds of .45cal ammo…At the end of the game you need level 9 skills to open all but few doors/boxes or repair something. Again, who thought it was ok?
    MUSIC/FX
Very good, climatic music to go through the whole story. There are few background sets that put you in that postapocalyptic mood. They don`t get in the way of good fun and match the extensive reading in this game. Personally I`d add 3-4 more of those, because IMO every town and settlement should have its own melody, not so in WL2.I really like the FX of the guns, splatters, shooting and hitting different surfaces. Interface sounds, reloading sounds etc. all done very well and add to the gameplay and story a great bit.
    CONCLUSION
Overall, Wasteland 2 is a good game for me. It might feel a bit behind the times for a newcomer though. Some gameplay and story choises left me wondering but overall I enjoyed the game and felt bad that it finally ended. I also can`t help the feeling that a masterpiece could have been created but we just got a good game. Don`t get me wrong, for and indie game it is impressive but still it missed so many opportunities and few questionable design choices. It cost me the same as an AAA title so I grade it AAA-wise. So WL2 gets an 8 from me but it would take a LOT of reworking the game to get a 9 or even a 8,5.

This one is simple: if you are looking for a modern, cinematic RPG experience like Mass Effect or The Witcher, this is not the game you want.

What this is is pretty much Fallout 3 if it hadn't gone the "Oblivion with guns" way. If you like old RPGs like the original Fallouts or Baldur's Gate, you'll probably enjoy it.

I've enjoyed the game. Lot of attention put into describing areas, situations. Conversations are varied and rich. The game shows you early on that your choices have consequences.

Combat system is ok. Reminiscent of the newer X-COM combat system. I can't say I've been overly impressed with the games graphics. My impression is that Shadowrun did a better job with graphics, however

Wasteland 2 makes use of this rotating camera a lot, hiding boxes and treasures in nooks and crannies that you may miss if you aren't looking at the right angle. I liked that.

Skill system is interesting. Rewards you for overspecializing, yet there are so many different skills that you can't overspecialize in everything. I've encountered lots of opportunities to use my skills. Most of the time, though, difficulty checks are high - so it's not a good idea to have a jack-of-all-trades kind of character. Best to spec in 3-4 skills at most (per character).

The music is more like ambiance sound than music. It's not bad in itself, but sometimes it makes combat feel anticlimatic.

Overall, I think the game is good. I believe it is true to Wasteland's spirit, it has a lot of funny and grim moments. It is a game, however, that is meant to be appreciated by taking the time to pay attention to details (through dialogue and description), otherwise, you miss out on the majority of the game.

great game - strong story, very immersive and lots to tinker with. I had a part run thru which i threw out to re-create a better group comp.
Skill points are hard to come by so the game really makes you tune each characters specialty (you can't do everything). This works well as your party needs to work together.
The combat is good though it would be nice if you could assign formations

The combat is good though it would be nice if you could assign formations to your group, generally they enter combat all bunched up risking friendly fire. (unless you pre position the party before hand - this is a bit tedious)
I like the travel/water system, though hopefully travel might become faster later on?
Unfortunately there is lots of > save game - try something - reload game and retry.
No stealth option in the game seems a bit lacking
All encounters seem pre-set so not quite sure on the replayability. (random encounters during travel tho)
Worth a go if you like the genre.

I feel like they did very well with this. Everything from Toaster fixing to Perception has a major affect on your game play (believe me, I've rerolled 3 times now). There is a good amount of role play, or perhaps we'll call C&C. Not New Vegas level, but it's there.

It's definitely nailed down the CRPG feel that they promised. You know, that type of game they don't make anymore? Well, this is basically it. I feel it's a solid 8, held back by terrible graphical optimization. It's not that I need the game to be gorgeous, but damn does the frame rate clunk even on an i5 4690 processor, which handles New Vegas/Diablo 3 very easily. But it's a great start, and a solid sequel. And I can't stop playing.

The writing is quite good also. Tons of characters and they all received solid characterization, very little cardboard here, folks. (Find my [Sweet Roll] in the cave! You found my [Sweet Roll]! [Thanks] to you [Hero]!)

Combat: It's getting some flak for that. I'm one of those who loved FO: Tactics, so I think it depends on your tastes. I get pleasure out of taking advantage of cover/ambushes/using terrain, but beyond that, it is somewhat limited, if you're the type who wants more nuance. But for tactical squad shooty combat, it's a solid foundation.

I've already put in about 100 hours (from re-rolling, what? I'm a bit OCD!) and still thoroughly enjoying myself. Haven't even gotten to California yet! Hopefully this is first of many more great CRPGs to come.

Some people don't even own the game, let alone played it, yet they write reviews like a champion.

They either praise the game as the new Jesus or they condemn it to be the worst scam ever. This is going on all over metacritic, not just for this game. How can any sane person, who is not retarded and older than 12, rate this game zero or ten? This is not how rating works and defeats the purpose of this website. Roughly half of the 700 reviews here are written by trolls. You people are effectively making this site completely useless - but hey, it's what trolls do... In order to push their own ego, they destroy working systems that decent people created. That goes for all aspects of life, not just gaming and trolls are everywhere, making this planet a bad place to live on. Congratulations.

Wasteland 2 is not a better Fallout 3, but it's a solid, enthralling, postapocalyptic RPG with nice visuals and audio. From a technical point of view, it could use some improvements, but the story and gameplay make up for that. The game is not for the casual Xbox gamer, but for the mature, hardcore gaming enthusiasts who are into turn based combat.

It is not the best game ever, as those 10/10 losers say, but it's also not the worst game of all times, like the 0/10 trolls claim. You people think about what you're doing, because if you keep this up, you'll break yet another system that was working before. It doesn't help anyone. When this website goes down because decent people stop using it, your agenda goes with it.

Second some of the quests in the second half of the game were a bit disjointed. They weren't broken, but I was left scratching my head wondering if something had broke.

Great game, but highly recommended that you read up on a strategy guide (see Google) before you create a party with "less than ideal" stats/abilities, as these have a huge effect on gameplay and you can easily make things quite difficult for yourself (in my case I actually had to restart the game with a new party after reading up on it, because I basically got stuck!). With that caveat, great game

The selling point in this game i would say is that the quests are none repetitive, fit the theme and are custom tailored for the setting making it more enjoyable.

Its also worth noting that actions you take ( Spolier ) will affect the final outcome of the game where it all shows as a summary of your actions.

The downside of this game, is that the quests / Journal doesnt really tell you what you must do, however, it does remind the player through notes and quest log.

I like how the game was created and funded. I don't like that it cost $50 for non-backers.

I like how much it resembles the original Fallout games. I don't like how it is missing key elements from the very same games.

I still think it is very good and enjoyable and because I am more or less passionate about the series and the teams behind them, I will list the big cons I've experienced so far:
    - Skills and attributes have very little connection. Attributes affect skills in marginal or indirect ways. I hoped to see an improved version of Fallout where each attribute matters nearly equally. Instead, I really only need intelligence and/or strength and/or coordination. The rest is rubbish.
    - It feels painfully linear. Painfully linear. One of the awesome traits of the predecessors was their non-linear nature. In Wasteland 2 I feel locked to the point of claustrophobia.
    - As some others stated, the overall feeling is that the world is hollow.
    - Near the end of the game, and particularly in Hollywood, all quests are completed within 10 feet of where they begin. Do something super trivial for this stage of the game, get xp. Very disappointing.
    - Outdoorsman skill. Oh boy. It is not an investment in something useful. It is extortion. Put points in it or you can't get from city A to city B without 5 random encounters that bring you nothing.
    - At some point I found a very cleverly hidden sniper rifle - decent one. 5 minutes later a salesman comes in town and he has all the best weapons for this stage of the game. I have enough money to buy them all. It feels so unrewarding.
    - The landscape is filled with safes and chests. Half of them are rigged. Most contain junk. Very unpleasant.
    - In one of the cities a shopkeeper has all the top-tier weapons of each class. I can buy them all and still have some cash. I can buy all the armor, as well. And all the good explosives. And still have cash. Very unrewarding.
    - Hard Ass, Smart Ass, Kick Ass don't feel unique enough. The conversation branches which are unlocked with these skills are one-liners with instant xp reward.
    - The only aiming option, headshot, is unbelievably useless in most cases.
    - The game pushes hardware to the limit without amazing visual effects.
    - I expected a ton of bugs due to the nature of the game. The case was the same with Fallout and all those patches. And it is :) But, seriously, patch 1 is a gigabyte, patch 2 is 2.4 gigabytes. Really?
    - The discussion thread on steam had a message from a dev. He asked for a specific way to report bugs: reproduce at least a couple of times, have a savegame, describe all the steps and conditions for the bug, send an email with attachment and fill in all the details. No sir. That's not how you do it.

It's still a 8/10 game for me. I was expecting more, after a year of delays.

like all good RPGs, a well-rounded party is a must and you have the choice of using pre-built characters or creating 4 entirely new and unique characters. while it doesn't really change inherent game play, the choice to add a 'biography' for your created characters is both interesting and really helps the immersion and role-play value (if such is your thing).

the game play mechanics and skill trees are simple but interesting. the cover-and-shoot mechanic in this turn-based game makes for slightly more strategic game play requiring characters to take cover as well as flank and provide suppressing/cover fire (not a must on lower difficulties - but it makes the game more fun and is pretty much a must on the harder difficulties).

the game can be unforgiving. there isn't a whole lot of hand-holding (some of the tool-tips and help/hints could probably be clearer). while it is somewhat linear in terms of where you should be going, you are allowed to wander about within a certain tolerance/variance. entirely possible to enter into encounters and maps with enemies that are whoppingly higher levels than you resulting and your entire party being wiped. the concept of perma-death for your characters also raise the stakes and forces you to play more strategically or thoughtfully than you might normally do so.

overall, i found this to be a very fun game with high replayability and highly recommend it especially to the older gamers who had many hours of fun on text-heavy (oh some of the dry/dark humour in the game is hilarious) old-school CRPGs.

Playability and Entertainment: The gameplay is heavily tactics-based and enjoyable nonetheless. There’s definitely strategy involved but the adventure isn’t an impossible one. The story and journey as a whole is definitely ingrained with wit and darkness in equal portions here and there.

Yes, models of characters are simplistic but they look okay in game. Environments are decent for game's setting. Yes, dice mechanics is RNG, but it surely provides you with situations you are unprepared for, forces you to think on a game, not just smash 5,6 - 5,6 - 1,2,3 - 1,2,3. Surely you can't master everything and if your character is average than his choices are average, what's wrong with that? Carefully plan your party, this also enriches replayability and since the game is full of choices your next walkthrough will not be boring and tedious. Surely some people prefer to read few words in 3-4 round dialog options, I couldn't care less about them. All important dialogues have great voice acting, and for all others we have one of the best writings I've ever read. It's a small price for the amount of content, reactivity, choices that truly mean something (unlike the facepalm "choices" in ME3), numerous ways to solve quests and the ability to truly roleplay.

Seriously, who decided that the one game should please everyone? I've waited for something like that since Fallout 2, and nobody was able to fulfill my wishes. Wasteland 2 obviously has flaws, but they are nothing compared to what it delivers - truly apocalyptic roleplaying experience.

I'm crossing my fingers and waiting for Numenera.

The good: -main plot is interesting enough
-there is plenty of side stuff to distract you
    -tactical combat
-the ability to solve stuff on different ways and your choices actually do matter(well on occasion at least)

The bad: -textures are really bad at times and probably the worst thing is that you actually see your char zoomed up close on char creation makes it just even more obvious

-some balance issue simply to say some weapons are far better then other, now this have more to do with fact that range wins all most of time especially if you play on harder difficulty as you want to kill anything before it comes to you

-certain skills are useful only on few occasion sometimes you will wonder why i wasn't able to do this or that

-save scumming is the thing that you actually want to exploit as it eliminates not that fun RNG which usually wont do much except make you grind for few hours random encounters so you can buy stuff that you actually want

Now what i noticed is that ppl expected from this game fallout clone and this is not one. Brian Fargo stated that in start. Mostly there is no perk system and there isn't even need for one as there is lot of different skills which are only useful if you specialize in them and you don't even get that many skill points per level so your one char can't be good in everything. And there is no need for it either as you control squad (4 rangers) and not single char + 3 other npc that can join your party.

Over all game is still worth its money and its 8/10 for sure. Now it was delayed once already but i get feeling that they should have extended that with more time it could easily be 9/10.

I was wary due to other experiences with Kickstarted projects, but they did a phenomenal job with Wasteland 2.

I have never been a fan of the classic RPG, but have always been a sucker for the post-atomic setting.

This is a very well written, clever, engaging game.

The AI cheats and the quests often are bugged, eventually you will get stuck but I can't stop playing it. Rebalance the combat system with a better AI and I will give it an 8 or a 9. I would allow the camera to go higher, sometimes it is very annoying to find your way around.

With some flaws mainly in polishing: attributes has little influence, most weapon skills are useless and other skills seem interesting but in game has few uses because most maps seem designed to classic combats instead of multiple strategies, leaving the sensation that could be more variety.
Although InXile made an excellent job in all what really matters: the game core; and the flaws can be solved by patches, DLCs or even an Expansion pack. In fact some mods have already solved things as the rebalance in combat (search them in Nexus mods).
In average is a superb game core (that deserves a 10 by itself), with a tightly acceptable campaign, and minor polishing flaws (so rules and level design deserves a tight 6 only because we feel that could be much better). Patches, DLC or Expansions could easily improve all those polishing issues, but I think that when the Toolset will be released this game would show its real potential.

As observation it needs a complete combat rebalance because Assault Rifles and Brawling are the best viable choices for range and melee respectively, followed by Snipers, SMG, EW. Actually are mods that solves that but it would be nice an "official" answer to have wikis and guides updated.

The average feeling about this game is a foundation of ideas that could be polished, and with the toolset will be even better, meanwhile is one of the best RPG I've ever played and also have inspired me to write a novel.

If that bothers you, or if you must have cutting edge graphics you are better off skipping this tile. On the other hand, if you are looking for a deep, engaging and huge RPG to sink your time into (and it will take a lot of your time) your wait is over.

It's dark, challenging, frustrating at times and completely enjoyable but it's not for everyone. The graphics and sound are passable and the mechanics are antiquated but this game is laser focused on a certain demographic. I feel that this demographic is gamers that are well over 30 and have the time to invest in something like Wasteland 2 - probably why this was only possible through a Kick-starter campaign. I fit this demographic and am having a blast with it. If you fit it as well, you'll be well served by dropping 40 bucks on Steam for this one.

I'd go as far as 9/10 if the graphic engine was akin to Divinity : Original Sin but I take a point because as good as this game is so far (I have NOT completed it yet, obviously) the graphics leave a bit to be desired.

I think a lot of reviewers will make mention of Divinity : Original Sin in their review of Wasteland 2 - it just makes sense to compare the two. If you could only play one of the two, as much as it pains me to say it, I would recommend Divinity. It pains me because I adore everything Brian Fargo has done and Wasteland 2 is terrific, but it does suffer a bit in the graphic department. Divinity : Original Sin 9/10 Wasteland 2 8/10.

Whereas I expected a real Fallout 3, the truth is this game feels like turn based Dungeon Siege. Strategy-wise, combat is pretty light with a few options like "headshot" or "ambush" that keep it short of being a total Dungeon Siege. Wasteland 2 however, manages to establish a setting which is believably well...post-apocalyptic. And more importantly it manages to detach itself from Fallout cliches.

    Cons:
    - Minimum combat. Tactics are often nothing more than moving your characters away and closer to enemies. There are few hiding spots and even so they get overrun with melee units in the first turn. This is not to say that combat is not fun. It still is but it's not deep.
    - Probability nightmare. Everything in this game works on probabilities, in and out combats. And these probabilities don't always feel like they should be. A weapon that has 4% of jam jams like it was 20%. I often faced multiple consecutive jams in a fight. Also, spending a lot of time loading the game just to successfully unlock a chest isn't really fun
    - Dungeon Siege/Diablo-esque progression. Things are more difficult to do simply because you encounter them later. In Diablo, monsters you face in later levels are the same ones you faced before, but with more HP and different name and color. It's the same here except they don't have different name or color. Sometimes it feels anachronistic. Why can't I unlock this chest when yesterday I disarmed a nuclear missile ?

    PROS
    - Excellent writing, at least in the fist half of the game. Witty narrative and character interaction, dark humor, it's all there. However that the longer you play the more you will feel the game was rushed. The second half of the game is like a copy of the first. You fought barbarians, religious fanatics, and robots in Arizona. Well you fight barbarians, religious fanatics and robots in LA too. The finale is the weakest of all.
    - Excellent voice acting. This is something that Fargo games excel in. I particularly like the radio chatters which play when I walk around the wasteland. They even hired a church choir to sing radio commercial of a demented church gang.
    - Bold story branching. If you have played RPGs from Bioware or BlackIsle, you must have seen the "third option" option in dialogues or other interactions that requires a lot of points in speech or other particular attribute. When you pick it, you will pacify two conflicting sides or save everyone in a distress. In Wasteland if you pull this off, you would kill everyone. Wasteland is grim and bleak world and even if you think you have given it the best, you will still screw it.

So is it a good game ? It is, in the way that Dungeon Siege was not a bad game either. Maybe it is not Jagged Alliance or Xcom as some of you expected but it is still fun and satisfying. Still, I can't help but feel that Fargo will have more difficulty convincing his backers of future projects, Torment Numenera comes to mind.

Since I had spent so many hours, I feel stupid if I gave score lesser than 8.

However, I quit the game quite early in the story.
I just can't get over been forced to be part of Desert Ranger. I know that Fallout Tactics also force you to be in the Brotherhood of Steel but I have no issue with that as BOS seems competent.

However, in the very beginning of the game, the Desert Ranger are hit with 2 crisis at almost the same time. Yet they only have the resource to send to tend to 1 crisis. This give me the feeling that the Desert Ranger is at a decline, without capability to deal with more than 1 crisis even though they are veterans with 15 years of experience reacting to the crisis of the wasteland, If the wasteland is as harsh as what I'm been told, I personally believe that handling more than 1 crisis at the same time is quite common for the Desert Ranger when it's not at a decline.

Someone told me that the Desert Ranger is stretched too thin.
In Fallout New Vegas, the NCR is also stretched too thin and I always did not choose the NCR ending as I did not have faith in them.

But this game forced to be in a team that I don't want to be in (for a game).
Thus the more I played, the more frustrated I get.

An instant classic for fans of Wasteland 1 and Fallout 1/2. I loved every bit of the 60 hours I played. Haven't been this hooked on a RPG since Dragon Age. I would rate it higher but there are some bugs, especially in the second map and it is easy to break some quests if you are not careful. Things like that are fixable and at heart it's a grand time. Just don't expect the combat of Fallout 2.

    2. Balance issues, I can’t believe that a rifle does more damage than a sniper or a brawler... fortunately this issue is corrected by mods, but should be well balanced from vanilla.

    3. The lack of the official toolset. Is enough great from vanilla, no complains, but a toolset would make it unlimited with plenty of mods.

The rest is very good, you can enjoy this game without any mods, double with mods, and infinitely with the toolset, I just needed to say the few flaws I feel and the best wishes to Wasteland 3!

Knowing that, there is not much into playing multiple times. I played it to half first time, then restarted since I realised I made wrong weapon skills choices. Next time I made better team and finished the game. It was cool, nice, fun, but kinda easy this time when I had proper team.

I played it once more on Supreme Jerk difficulty, but this time I didn't come to finish since it is all pretty much the same.

    Bad sides are:
    1) there is no "perks" from Fallout 2
    2) character "skills" are not related to character "attributes" at all
    3) you are forced to look on-line for "followers" information if you want to plan proper team setup with supplementing skills, or you can gimp your party (game-play) heavily
    4) wearing "armor" does not affect your look :/ - instead there is clothing you can change, but it doesn't change anything except actual look, which is pretty pointless in single player game - you can just sell all cloths on start to get some extra money :)

    Overall, well worth the money.

The bad: The attributes don't have much influence on the characters skills or abilities, enemy melee fighters can walk up to your toes on their first round, and the special dialog choices I was hoping for were just a one-line comment and some xp. The combat was fairly fun but I'm not big on combat anyway. I play crpg's for the plot twists and convoluted dialog trees so was very disappointed with the special dialog.

The Good: There are some great conversations, and the inter-faction rivalries are quite clever if you take the time to screw people over and change alliances on the fly. The game has no good/bad morality, just shades of gray. I plan to play the game again making totally different choices just to see new content.

Again, it's not Fallout! It doesn't have prone firing or aimed shots, you can't play as a loner or search for the G.e.c.k. either. Fallout is a great game but it is a different game. Besides, if Obsidian had made it any closer to Fallout canon Zenimax would have sued them and we'd never have gotten to play it.

Not so suprising, as I am a great fan of turn based strategy games, I find it vital that a game has solid story, offers relevant choices (both tactical and strategic ones) amd I don't mind (actually like) to read a lot. And I find that the added-value of flawless graphics are somewhat overrated, so I am ready for compromises in this department. If you agree with me upon these things, you will have great time playing. If not... then maybe W2 was not meant for you.
To explain why I did not give 9 or 10: I find some parts of the games are too long, like a book that should have been more carefully edited. The ability system is also a bit disappointing, as it binds your hands before you could understand the game (forget about advices on the net, where you can find anything as well as its contrary). Considering the slow progression, 1 additional point per each ten levels gives practically no margin to reshuffle later on. I understand that 'the wasteland is a harsh and unforgiving place', but this is simply evil. Thirdly, things are a bit overcomplicated (again, editing). Despite the time that I spend to understand what is going on and why, I often do not have the info for solid choices. So I guess. Then I am simply surprised to see that sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don't ... But why??? Dunno... The 'harsh and unforgiving' covers a lot of ground, but at the same time it is me who plays and if I am pushed around too much, that easily becomes irritating.
Anyway, on balance, this is a great game!!

Ammo is scarce and PC's miss most of their shots unless you spend heavily in combat skills, which means you neglect the massive number of other useful skills which make up parts of the game which are actually fun. Melee weapons beyond a nail board seem to be completely forgotten.

Most of the fights, save a few, seem to be standoffs with little in the way of tactical cover, rather two teams blasting at each other until one crew dies. This is a major let down. Even setting up ambushes becomes a tedious tip-toe forward trying not to aggro the enemy, who can run at you like Usain Bolt and get into melee range on their first turn. There is no kind of CC or even debuffs.

Loot is randomly generated apart from medical supplies and some mobs. You can easily get starved of one type of ammo so the pressure is on throughout the game to conserve as much as you can.

The story is quite good so far, with a hard choice early on with real consequences. The dialogue is well acted and written, although sometimes you will want to turn the radio transmitter spam off so you can actually focus on your story.

The "isometric" (3D) view is great, although the graphics in general lack a real polish, looking much like the first "Dawn of War" game which came out 10 years ago this month. The maps are exactly like the old Fallout games or even New Vegas, mostly brown but with some fun variations on the theme. The sizes are fine and walking them does not take too long. Loading times between maps were around 10-15 seconds for me. I have not found any bugs.

There is a lot to like about this game, and like Divinity Original Sin its probably more fun with a guide on how to set your party up (which I think is a really lame thing). The combat is tiresome but the dramatic parts are good and the environment is what you would probably want. I don't think it is worth £30, if you liked fallout wait for it to be £20.

I probably would give it a 6, but it gets a bonus point for the nostalgia.

Wastleland 2 definitely brought back memories of the original, but it did get a bit tedious.

Wastleland 2 definitely brought back memories of the original, but it did get a bit tedious. Kill the baddies, sell/salvage the extra loot to free up encumbrance, buy more ammo, repeat. I can also see how it could be tough going without having read up on how to make a party before starting off. You definitely want to understand the CLASSIC system before you start and do not spread skill points too thin.

Multiple ways to solve problems (and decisions affecting the side stories) was nice.

I had no problem with the graphics. They are a nice mix of modern meshed with old-school (if you are a young'un, don't expect top of the line HD stuff here).

The story was a little shallow, but it was very similar to the original (which I think was a nod to it). I also thought the final battle was a bit of a let down.

One thing I did notice (or rather did not notice) was the lack of bugs. I know this is one of the reasons Fargo and company extended the deadline...they wanted it perfect. I can say I never had an issue whatsoever with anything going haywire.

Overall I liked it, but it could have had a little more story and a little less monotony. Perhaps a Wasteland 3 will get the score up in the 9-10 range.

At the beginning It definitely gives you that sweet feeling of an old style RPG, but as you go deeper into the game, you start to realise that it's just the surface and Wasteland 2 is pretty dull at the inside. It's not about some major issues, the problem is that there are huge number of small ones.

    1) Game mechanics is not transparent. Do you know that high combat initiative allows you have more than one move in a turn? Do you know how luck affects drop rates? How charisma works, is it party-based or character-based? Do you know that formula for action points is (STR+INT+SPD)/4+CRD/2. Sure, you can dig forums and find answers to most of your questions, but you can't find them in game.

    2) Boring levels. Maps are quite big and full of hidden crates and containers. There are no shortage of mobs as well. It makes progression tedious and dull.

    3) Most skills are poorly designed. Computer science, demolitions, lockpicking, safecracking, toaster repair - in 95% of the situations you use them to get access to some loot. And you really need that loot and those skills, because ammo is sparse. I found that Mechanical Repair and Animal Whisperer to be enjoyable, just because they are not used routinely.

    4) There are dosens of crates, safes, and blah-blah on the map. Almost all of them contains some junk, a little bit of ammo and tiny amount of money. It makes the gameplay grindy and tedious. Instead it would be much better to remove 90% of the crates and fill remaining 10% with cool items, and give the player feeling of the accomplishment.

    5) The storyline is not engaging and full of cliches. It really fits theme of original Wasteland, but what was good back in 80s is boring and repetitive now. It reminds me of Fallout Tactics, which is not cool. To be fair, there are good things about the story as well: i really like emphasis on hard decisions and "you can't save em all" attitude.

    6) There are times when game really breaks the immersion. First time you see a honey badger - it's really funny. Second time, it's ok. But when you see a whole valley full of them, you just facepalm. There are no day/night cycle (fallout 1/2, arcanum, hell - even Ultima 7 had that). And yeah - dosens of crates full of staff in what was supposed to be a wasteland.

    7) And list goes on and on.

Note, that none of these issues are gamebreaking or something. They just take away some satisfaction of the game. So if your are a fun of post-apocalypse theme and turn based combat - by all means get it, but wait for the sale. Otherwise - avoid.

The game is overall quite fun, it's a nice nostalgic trip back to the days of the Fallouts that were Fallouts and not Oblivion with Guns and Mutants, so if you liked those older games - you'll enjoy this one.

However there are many issues; not simply bugs but design decisions and lack of polish, which scar the playability of the game.
The issues range from combat situations where range is seriously limited on weapons and the enemy can run as far as you can shoot in one turn and hit you on the head with his club, to other combat issues such as how the NPCs seemingly don't run out of ammo yet you loot no ammo from them.
Other issues are with how skills are used. Instead of simply using the highest skilled PC automatically - you'll have to select him, select the skill, select the object. Might not be an issue the first hundred times, but it gets bore-some as you have to drudge through ever container you can find to stock up and that means using perception, trap/alarm disarm, lock pick/electronic/safe crack and that's likely spread out over multiple characters. Something that was fine in the 90s and 00s, but even though it's an "old school RPG" we do not need all "old school mechanics". Polish and quality of life features came into existence for a reason.
The dialogue, and levelling up system is also a bit annoying and again - it gets tiresome because you have to do it over and over and over.

Character creation is what creation is, but the models used aren't that "pretty", so if that's your thing - then it'll cost on the score. It's not for me, so I'm fine with it - but again, I can't help but think that it's 2014 and not 1994. Even if it is a kickstarter game.

But the game does have that nice "wasteland" feeling, combat and questing is otherwise acceptable, and even though bugs exists - I've not found any to be gamebreaking (yet).
So as mentioned - if the likes of Fallout 1, 2 and/or Tactics grapped you back then - you're likely to enjoy this game, but a masterpiece of score 10 it is not.

7 to 8 because is feels and plays as a solid game. I'm properly leaning a bit more towards 7 than 8 now after having played some more hours because the lack of polish is a grinding factor.

    - 1% Jam rate on a HMG and it still jams every gunfight...
    - Bad introduction to the game, nothing is explained so you are destined to make some wrong character creation errors. Although the game lets you figure stuff out yourself, some info about some crucial things (gameplay/gamemechanic wise)would be nice.
    - Every single thing is percentage/stat based. Sure, you can get 100%, but every single thing, from combat to lockpicking, to breaking walls to hacking computers is chance-based, with the occasion of a critical failure, making the objective perma-useless. Very annoying and a lot of quick-loading because of this. Should not be necessary.

I list my humble complains here:

The loot system is a pain. Random-drop makes the game experience unstable. Opening every safe and box provides very little fun. There should be less containers and better loots.

The difference of weapon strength between every tiers is very queer. If only there are several characteristic weapons of similar power, player can combat with more play styles.

The skill success rate system is just very troublesome. If the game allows saving and loading, the check should better set as a threshold of all or none. Asking player to ponder for a proper action before an object may be funny in 1988 but not now.

The 3 kinds of speech check make confusing in my skill-picking but not as much enjoyment in doing those speech.

The maps are way too wide thus make too many running, as many user commented.
    The mini-maps are irrelevant.
Tactic component of the battle is too thin and covers are difficult to use. The combat is not interesting.
The story of NPCs are either very short or coming as a big mass in a very short moment. I was hoping a storytelling that allow their story to be discovered step by step.

Not as deep a CPRG as Fallout 1/2, but way better party based combat that is a lot of fun. I'd say this was more combat heavy than story rich. Stuck playing the Rangers wasn't a problem. Well, I was severely disappointed by the game itself. It certainly has some appealing things, but most of the time it's just boring, slow fights again and again and poor level design. You always have to go back numerous times, picking this and that, hacking, breaking and so on. First couple of hidden chest locations were fun to memorise, but it became really tedious after the count reached 10.

Now this one is up to personal taste, but I really think that RNG system in hacking/picking locks/disarming alarms/etc. is bad for any gamer who's obsessed with exploration and collecting things. I instantly started abusing quicksave-quickload if I didn't lockpick something successfully. Would be much better if there just was a skill threshold, in my opinion. As soon as your skill was above it, you could lockpick chests of lower level and so on.

I am completely disappointed by the combat system and the leveldesign. More content on each map or less maps with the combined content of several maps and a combat system alike to Jagged Alliance 2 or even X-COM would have increased the user experience dramatically. However, some gamereview state that Wasteland 2 is first a RPG and only second a turned based strategy game. Yet, the rpg part cannot convince me either. Skill increase means that your chances increase for lockpicking, hitting, hacking etc. but the gameplay does not change, with exception to dialog based skills. While new weapons do increase the damage output, other loot like new armor (that has an some use other than new looks) does not really exist, similar to Mass Effect 2.
True, the dialogs are great, the choices have severe impacts which is always nice for multiple playthroughs. But the tedious level design and the unnecessary often and boring fights interrupt the otherwise interesting story or sidequests, which already make my first run unenjoyable.

I can only recommend this game to fans or people who like mindless grinding and backtracking for about 3/4 of the game just to see some hours of real RPG gameplay. Instead of creating a 50+ game, which game mechanism just don't fit the developers should have focused on a more dense, more capturing world by improving the combat system and reducing the size of the maps.

Wasteland 2 captured my interest after I was allowed to play it for free for a short while. Frankly, I decided on it for the lack of games to play. This is actually my own problem for I have this rule not to spend money more than 15 euros on a game unless I am certain I want to have it. The next one I am looking forward to is Cyberpunk 2077.

Wasteland 2 is positioned as an old school rpg, which is more a sales pitch than anything else. It is old, therefore it is good? Like wine that has matured over time giving us a rich bouquet of flavours? But perhaps it is more an excuse for the vinegar taste it might turn out to be? Perhaps both depending on the situation.

For me a game is made in the here and now and not in the back and then and although it might have the same features in a way I hope we have progressed somewhat and learned to make things better. But next to that, a good story is a good story as a bad story is bad one. As far as I know the only difference the technology makes, for that is what discerns old from new basically, is in the delivering. And is that not what the sales pitch tries to smooth over?

So ignoring the old school blurb we can say it resembles games like Blackguards, the 2014 tactical role play game set in a fantasy realm. But Wasteland stresses roleplay more and feels less combat oriented therefore. The world is also more open and allows you to travel about although there are 'guides' and barriers keeping you from spinning of into the wrong direction.

The game strikes a decent balance between combat and role play, but unfortunately for me I never quite liked it. One way to suck away the fun is the tedious scavenging. The country side is littered with boxes, safes and landmines which you have to discover, examine, disarm, crack, open and empty of the random generated paltry contents. Since ammunition is scare and expensive and well paying jobs are far and in between you are almost required to live of the land and the droppings of your enemies, which is at times unrelated to what weapons they bring to bear and even at times your opponents do not drop anything at all.

Another annoying feature is to stuff the contents full of items listed as junk, which isn't always junk we are warned over and over so, you carry around a lot of excess baggage just in the offhand chance it might be required for something.

What I find even more damaging for this game, which is why I liked games like Torment and Baldurs Gate, is that most of your team members have almost no personality. The basic team has non and only a few of your npcs have something of their own mind. Even Blackguards gives more personality to your team members. If this was a deliberate choice than the lack of original personalities ought to be off set by a good combat system. But wasteland doesn't deliver much. It is decent enough, but nothing special or spectacular as it lacks depth.

What remains is to evaluate the story line. And here Wasteland is the most weak. It has no general story line that draws you in. The stories are fragmented and you feel more like an emergency response team that is running from one unrelated crisis to the next. So yeah, there is the murder of Ace. So yeah, there is the synth tale. So yeah, there are the mutated plants. But it is unrelated and often feels like a distraction for a main plot that has yet to develop.

Overall the game is decent and works in a fashion, but it lacks a good story line and well develop characters. Ironically that is exactly my criticism for Fallout 4. Perhaps old school and new school have something in common?

So... this game is basically not polished. When you go to switch your gun for a gernade to throw the gun suddenly unloads all the bullets. Just weird stuff like that. With Jagged Alliance 2 if you walked around the corner and you were 2 feet from an enemy, if they hit you close range with a pistol you'd be dead. With Wasteland a pistol shot from close range is like a slap on the wrist.

So... basically... this game is not a classic. It doesn't suck, but it isn't a classic. If they thought out the fighting as much as they thought out the RPG, yes, it definitely had a chance.

Doesn't change my opinion of the game however..

I put so many hours into the game. Fun at times, but frankly the majority of the time it's just slow, dull and boring.

Furthermore it was hard to progress as it was hard to tell where anything important was at.
The wacky map setup didn't help it either. The map always faces relative North, but then you can spin the camera around so you can be facing any direction. It's too bad this wasn't shown with some kind of circle, and, or cone shape et al. I had to switch between rotating the view camera around to into into orientation with the map to figure out where I was on it.

Kind of cool to go back to an old style, but then if a game is not good it's not going to help, just making things worse. A 1990's style, done worse.
It sat on my hard drive for months now, it was time to uninstall it knowing I wasn't coming back.

P.S. It looks like their are shills making +10 reviews. Look at some of them. This is the one and only game they made a review for. Go figure..

The combat system of WL2 has almost no tactical aspects in it and the rules and physics of a gunfight have are not from this world. The cover system was a nice try to bring some tactics in to the game, but the logic of it is just silly.

I wish it all had gone perfectly and we could've witnessed a cinderella story of gaming, but it did not go that well in all honesty. I'm sorry to say that this game is far to simplified and stupid for me to keep my interest in it and it only made me more hungry for a good turn based RPG.

I played the early access and was expecting the final game is better, but its not. I am very, deeply disappointed. I enjoyed

I enjoyed the post-apocalypse settings of the game, it has some smart writings.

However, the graphic is really meh, even for Unity, they are not using it to its full potential I guess. Characters models really hurt my eyes. And it doesnt even change according to the armor you wear.

Combat is boring and simplified, it just doesnt give you the satisfaction of fallout. Most cases that you are forced to use melee in order to save ammo instead of letting you play the way you want.

main story is short and often lack of orientation, I really got lost in the railroad nomad camp. Some of the dialog are just too long and does not give you a better insight.

Gameplay-wise the player perks are redundant such as smart ass, kiss ass and hard ass. Also you need 3 "lock picking" skills to open different boxes is just BS why make a differentiation for Toaster, Safe and locked boxes??
And I really dont get the part where you can type keywords in a conversation.

Performance issues, clunky and sometimes unreliable game play, and confusing aesthetics ground Wasteland 2 firmly in the Indie / Unpolished category of games these days. It delivers exactly what it promised, but it does so in a rather poorly constructed package. The game is far from bad, but it's frustrating to play a game that you know in your heart of hearts is an absolute masterpiece hidden behind underdeveloped game play, not-so-spectacular aesthetics, and an underwhelming role-playing aspect.

If you can look past its flaws and enjoy it for what it is, Wasteland 2 is perfectly enjoyable. Amazing story-telling, incredibly immersive hooks, and absolutely outstanding character writing will give you a truly wonderful RPG experience. But don't be surprised when you find yourself feeling that the game is lacking that special something that would put it over the top.

A mixed bag you got here. I like "Choose and take the consequences." aspect of quests.
I really do. It is one of the best in that aspect.
But other than that, it is not up to expectations. Most of all, the combat is way too boring. Can you believe it? It is no better than the text combat of original Wasteland which was made nearly 30 years ago. No, it's worse, because it is

No, it's worse, because it is slower.
What is worse, you have to repeat it endlessly.

    And the skills.
There are bunch of pointless skills and it requires you to use it over and over and over and over and over and over again. Oh god, I cannot overemphasize how boring it is.

And there is no creativity of what so ever in using skill.
Just a sickening amount of grinding.

You may think it's not really a problem. But it is.
It takes too much time just to pick a lock on a random box, or to open a door.

If it had been an adventure game(combats and skills stripped off), it would have been better.
But as an RPG, it is not a masterpiece they promised.
It is just an ok game.

Wasteland 2 could be a great game but right now (October 6, 2014) it is rigged with too many bugs and balancing issues. IMHO, this games was not ready for full release.

Pros: - The post-apocalyptic feeling is great. - Dialogues and story are well written. - The huge amount of references and nods to the 80s is rather enjoyable. - Old-school cRPG are so rare nowadays and Wasteland 1

    - The huge amount of references and nods to the 80s is rather enjoyable.
    - Old-school cRPG are so rare nowadays and Wasteland 1 was always one of my favourite.

    Cons;
    - So many fights and so little strategy involved, enemy AI is meh...
    - Lack of meaningful choices: open-ended quests are uncommon and mostly leads to flavor-only consequences.
    - A lot of skills feel redundant and artificial (there's 5 different skills for unlocking things, 3 for persuasive dialog,...).
    - Current attributes balance promotes character builds with 2 to 4 dump stats.
    - Ranged weapon balance is terrible: Assault rifles are OP, Sniper and SMG are OK, there's only one good Energy weapon in the entire game, the rest is garbage.
    - There's too much randomness in loot and skill success, savescumming will lead you anywhere.
    - UI is clunky and not user-friendly, too much wasted time in skill usage delays,...
    - Poor optimisation. For example, any activated alarm makes the game unplayable because of lag.
    - After first patch, there's still lots of bugged quests, combat related and inventory management issues (clicking dragging an item fail 2 times out of 3),...

The most serious issues of Wasteland 2 comes from really bad design choices (randomness, artificial skills, balancing issues,...). This game seriously needs a huge re-balancing patch (or modding tools) to live up to its expectations.

This is definitely not a Fallout game that many of us have been waiting for. If you're a fan of Fallout 1 and 2, do not believe the polygon quote that you see on Steam. "I loved the old Fallout 1 and 2, Wasteland 2 makes me feel like I never stopped playing".

The game is essentially a glorified Fallout tactics, with very minor RPG elements tossed it. Now if you ignore that, the game

Yeah, actually it could be a 7/10, but the second half is very buggy.

Well, first the good: I like the graphics. Weapon models in particular are nice. Though kill animations could be more varied/weapon dependant. You get to control 7 characters. It has turn-based combat with a cool Combat Initiative system. Oh and it has a GREAT atmosphere. Not so good: Its full of plotholes.

Oh and it has a GREAT atmosphere.

    Not so good:
Its full of plotholes. Like if Rangers spent the last 15 years strenghtening their ranks and fortifying their position, how could they NOT secure their nearby respective water and food supply towns.
Combat system is kinda simplistic. Flanking doesn't work well, as cover provides full 180 degree frontal protection. And you get the cover accuracy bonus even against enemies behind you... Ranged enemies run into melee range and want to hug you. You can't target and disable different body parts (there's only "headshot", which cannot score a critical hit). The critical hit system is pretty basic. Weapon ranges are pretty pathetic, especially for sniper rifles.
    There are no Perks/Talents/Feats!
There are many redundant skills, such as Field Medic and Surgeon.

    The BAD:
The attributes are weak, have very little impact on gameplay. The difference between 1 and 10 in Coordination or Luck attributes provides less to-hit bonus/critical chance then 1-2 weapon skill ranks.
Skills are entirely severed from the attributes and function in a void. A Strenght 1 character will be just as good in the "Brute Force" skill, as a Str 10 body-builder. The skillschecks get progressively tougher in this game (regardless of what the skillcheck concern), only maximum skill ranks count. Which means that you designate some skills to each character in the start andalways onlyraise these skills. Level ups are monotonous, as you only get some hp and a few skill points which may or may not be enough to raise one of your chosen skills. It could just as well be automatic.
The loor is entirely randomized. It seems in Arizona it was raining booby-trapped safes and boxes with master locks, as they are scattered everywhere, regardless if their location makes sense or not. Unfortunately they contain mostly useless, random junk.
Armor is useless. The system is pathetic and actually it may be harmfull in the second half of the game.

The epitome of old-school that doesn't reek of decay. There are a few bumps along the road, but oh, is it a road worth taking. [Issue#246]
