Simply put, this game sucks. It's worse than Vermintide II, and that game was already significantly worse than Left 4 Dead 2.

The game runs terribly. Constant FPS drops and performance issues that the game doesn't look anywhere near good enough to justify. The game averages a crash every 2 hours no matter how much the settings are adjusted. The game itself isn't unfun, but again,

The game itself isn't unfun, but again, it's worse than Vermintide II and the gameplay is essentially the same. Heavily melee-focused combat with weird dodging and blocking that don't seem to take when they should. The game's enemies are poorly balanced and are just obnoxious to play against. The levels are boring, lifeless, and ugly.

Legitimately, the only redeeming thing about this game is that some of the voice interactions between the different kinds of characters can be funny. That's it. This is an early access game that is years away from being even decent, let alone good, and it's still going to be filled with grindy, exploitative microtransaction nonsense that bogs down the good bits even more.

Take the $40 you could spend on this game and buy four copies of Left 4 Dead 2 to play with three of your friends. It runs better, it's cheaper, it wasn't designed by monkeys, and you can mod it to have more fun on it.

It's not the worst game I've played, but I have a hard time understanding how someone could see this as enjoyable or as how they would want to spend their time. The mechanics certainly aren't completely broken but they are nothing special; like most games in 2022 it's a repetitive dinosaur that was rushed out the door.

worst optimization ever. You can crash beacuse of putting one item on a equipment slot, can crash if you go to quickly while the game is starting, can crash in game beacuse yes, can crash in a raid beacuse of the frame drop, the frame drop itself is so brutal that i cannot even imagine a raid without two or three. Horribly classic gameplay with poor rewards and a ridicolous large progression.

Buggy unfinished mess. You're paying for early access even though it's a full release. Many key systems aren't even implemented, such as crafting and private lobbies. The developers and support team is a joke as well and will insult you and ridicule you if you have an issue.

Did anyone really expect FatShark to competently make a game? Terrible developer, always have been. They chose a fully functional cash/mtx shop over basic features or game optimization. Thats how little you matter to them. F this game and this company. 40k deserves better.

This game is the quintessential "Fatshark experience" with a sprinkle of greedy GaaS on top.

The developers ignored any feedback received in the last years of Vermintide 2 and went ahead with a vision they had that disregard everything that could have been good of the previous titles and implement some terrible user abusing mechanics that are meant to exploit the players.

Every single system in the game is designed around the idea of creating "engagement" meaning that things are either time gated (shop, weekly quests, missions types, etc) randomized or straight up locked behind some way of progress that require an absurd feat or amount of time to be unlocked.

You are not paying for the game, you are paying for the possibility to have your time wasted behind some abusive mechanics that will make you hate the time you wasted.

    Onto more details:

    - Items are not dropped either during the run or at the end of each mission. Rarely you will get a single item, randomly in terms of type and power level.
    - Items are meant to be obtained via the shop, which refresh every 60 minutes and range between the unlocked weapons type (for your level) and weapon rarity (white, green, blue).
    - Items of higher rarity (purple, orange) will be obtained via a "premium" currency that can be obtained doing some weekly quests in the range of "kill 1000 of this type of enemy in melee" or "find X amount of this secondary mission item" and so on. Usually you manage to unlock ~2000 units of this extra currency. Weapons of the orange rarity will cost slightly more than a week's quests so you'll need to weeks to buy one of those prestigious items. This system already stink of "buy X amount of this premium currency to save time farming" written all over.
    - Most weapons are just the same skin and a different name (MKIII, MKIV, MKVII, etc) that will simply change either the attack combo animation for melee, or the fire mode for weapons (single, auto, semi-auto, etc) which feel a very cheap and lazy way of introducing variety when things like that could be managed with weapons mods eventually.
    - There is an upgrade system which basically allow you to upgrade an item to a superior tier. To do that you need to find, in missions, some crafting materials that are randomly spawning around. The higher the upgrade, the more it costs in terms of materials. There are also advanced features like saving a stat of a weapon to be reused on another weapon or reroll the properties of a weapon... but they are not yet in the game.

    - Missions are randomly selected from a pool and you will usually have the same mission available in multiple slots but some "plain", other with a secondary mission, others again with a random "modifiers"
    - This means that the mission you might want to run, at the difficulty you want, might not be available and...tough luck.
    - Modifiers for missions makes it, most of the time, quite harder for zero improved reward
    - Secondary missions are simply "find X of this item that will spawn semi-randomly around and occupy your utility slot or have your health being slowly eaten away" for a meagre reward of experience and golds. Not enough to justify the effort and surely not relevant once you reach the experience cap anyway

    - Combat feel clunky compared to the previous titles from Fatshark. The overall feeling is that things are slower in terms of animation but that fade away after a bit of playing as you get used to it.
    - The previous beta had shown a frenetic and eclectic combat feeling, which is in contrast with the current state of the game in which combat feel more slow and clunky. Adjustment might be made but currently it's not leaving you euphoric after an intense fight, more like relieved that it's ended
    - Some enemies have pathing issues that lead them to do impossible movements and contribute to the janky feeling of the combat's experience (hounds, chargers)
    - Some physics are absolutely broken. Explosions tend to shove you in the wrong direction, charging enemies doing absurd corners and maintaining speed, other grabbing you when you shouldn't be grabbed (behind corners, warping back onto you, etc)
    - There is an overall "obscuration" of mechanics which benefit no one and makes enjoying the game harder

    - There are a grand total of 4 playable careers and most of the weapons for careers are shared between them, leaving a feeling of "already seen" when switching between them.
    - Most careers have broken feats, talents and mechanics. You'll quickly end up finding a meta that is working around the broken aspect and deal with it that way

    - Difficulty is currently an hard evaluation because, beside lvl 1-2-3 missions, lvl 4-5 have sometimes the AI director spawn so much stuff all at once that makes it a miracle to be able to survive, leaving a sense of "relief" when finishing a map more than feeling like you dominated the mission or anyway raised to meet the odds.

Classes are dull, can't tell one from the other (big one aside) while playing. The graphics are great, but again, that doesn't make a good game on its own.

This game is not finished, and they say that this is a final version!
    - The game keeps crashing again and again.
    - The optimization is a real disaster (even with the settings at their lowest)
    - the crafting system is missing, although it was announced.
    - it misses other characters (vs Vermintide)
    - There are a lot of ergonomic problems. A lot of things in the interface have been very badly thought.
    - At the creation of the character, you are asked several questions, with the validation of these choices, to know a little better the type of character that you take, your planet, your life etc.. I love the LORE, but this is not it, because there is no immersion in the game according to the choices. you have to go through 3-4 windows of choices to ... nothing... No interest.
    - The number of different bugs reported on the official forum shows how the quality control is a disaster.

This game has a lot of potential, and they should have waited, at least, 6 more months before being clearly announced in final version.
It's a bit of a shame though, they're not afraid of anything...

You copied systems design, fundamental enemy decisioning, enemy types, etc. from your last game, and while I understand enough about game development to know that this doesn't mean you were free of work on the backend, it does put you further ahead than almost any other company releasing a game - sequel or not. The number and type of things transposed from Vermintide seems unparalleled in the industry. And yet, somehow, you did not spend the extra time this gave you in the above-average development time you had for this game on optimization or content. You have fewer classes than VT2, the game only looks better because of RTX lighting in dark environments, it runs on my 12700K/3080/nvme SSD at sub-60 FPS in 4K even with medium RTX, your "70" weapons are mere variations on theme, your "story" is an intro cutscene that leads into a style of campaign that even F2P pseudo-MMOs like Warframe and Global Agenda before it have executed better, and your shop UI/UX simply screams that you intend to fleece your community further post-launch. Maybe some of the monetization model could've waited until the game, you know, actually functioned with a comparable amount of content to your last release.

At the point where you have to frontrun a beta release with multiple press statements "setting expectations" for your product, it's time to sit down and have a conversation about why you're not ready to go to market. I sincerely hope Darktide doesn't get a pass simply for being in a genre that's been going the way of the RTS for the last ten years. If it doesn't, and the game is treated fairly by fans and the media, this release will be incredibly damaging to your brand.

But I guess you don't need to care about any of that: Once the Tencent acquisition retention bonuses are paid out, you'll probably lose more than half your talent anyway, just keep working with your fantastic cash grab partner. Great job, Fatshark.

Then you realise that there was the high point of the experience as there is virtually no content and no game behind it. One you can finish in a couple of days but will wonder why you wasted your time waiting for it to get better and feel more satisfying. This is an exercise in bad game play, poor game design and blandness (again except for the art style and graphics which are very good).

Unfortunately, they forgot to make a game that makes anyone want to play it for long. The weapons are limited and feel like unsatisfying to use. Reloads take forever and spamming melee with 1 button is basically most of the game. You could make the worlds most simple macro and its done.

There is almost no purpose to your objectives and missions. There are 4 maps you basically do over and over as if the game was never finished and the character development and customisation is practically non existent.

It doesnt even tell you how many enemies you killed etc after each mission. There is literally nothing in this gameplay that is not done in a way that feels like it was just to tick a box without really delivering anything.

Definitely a contender for worst game of the last 12 months. I wont list all the ways in which this game is badly designed and a poor experience but just think, pretty much every aspect of it but how it looks.

Where this game SERIOUSLY fails is in the optimization, with some players even on high end rigs seeing load times of 10-15 minutes, graphical errors a plenty and FPS drops left right and center. The Playable classes are not good in my opinion, The Ogryn can flat out break the game and renders the veteran unplayable in some circumstances (Due to blocking every single corridor they stand in and stopping the Veteran in particular from being able to do what they're good at) and there's not enough that makes each one feel unique, to add to this even now nearly 3 months after release there's no career paths available at all.

The main Hub is pretty to look at but pointless, yes you can see other players but there's no interaction and you can't even have fun shooting things, breaking things or even jumping. The missions all feel pretty much the same and have minimal interaction past shooting things and maybe scanning something - this leads to it getting boring pretty quickly for a lot of people. Honestly I would say it's not worth buying in its current state unless you have a good group of friends you just want to have a laugh with.

You can also enjoy the game on your own, as the game searches for mission partners automatically, or you can play against a bot. However, since it is mainly a coop action, it will always be better with friends. [Issue#324]

All of these details come together to form a fairly lifeless game – one with all the fixings and foundation of another epic showcase but without any of the polish or love that is so evident in the team’s previous undertaking. Now I know for a fact this game is going to be incredible. I have confidence in Fatshark; they’ve earned that by showing how much they care about their work and their player base. But, right now, in its current state, there’s simply no way I can call it a worthy successor. The gunplay is wonderful and I’ll no doubt continue to dip in here and there, but longer sessions quickly become dull and there’s no real hook, no grand finale, to motivate me to push on. I can’t wait to see what it’ll become but, in the meantime, I think I’ll take a look back and revel in the masterful predecessor, Vermintide 2, and all of the juicy extra content I never got to dive into. TL;DR Age of Sigmar > 40k.

Darktide has a lot going for it — a beloved IP, crunchy gunplay, and a gorgeous presentation. Sadly, it’s not the endlessly-playable showstopper some had hoped, instead offering a repetitious gameplay cycle made more apparent by slow progression and little mission variation. It’s clear Fatshark has further plans for their latest endeavor and it may yet reach its full potential after a few patches and expansions, but for now it’s best to set expectations.
