This is really disturbing. I always felt like Blizzard stood out among all gaming companies for their style and quality. Does it have to be a choice quality or profit? Can't you do both? Very concerned for D4....

This is an absolute travesty ... Blizzard how DARE you release this garbage game and completely destroy a near perfect game that pioneered an ENTIRE genre. This... i... i don't even know what to say...

How does blizzard make a remaster of a 17 year old game worse than the original, just how? So sad to see what Activision has turned blizzard into.

Original game was better not really worth to pay another 30 for a game I had already bought almost 20 years ago. The most expensive skin I have ever bought.

Worse than the original. Full game price for a half baked set of new models. Cinematics previewed last year didnt make it to the final version.

If it were just for that, but no, they also killed the modding community, responsible for the success of the old game with games like DotA, Tower Defenses and other thousands of mods that people only bought the game to play them. They imposed intellectual property over any mod made using their platform, so they could milk more any players that is doing something to make the game better.. a Along with that, they removed some features from the old game and forced the old client to update to a “reforged lite” version of this, killing the joy from from those still playing the original Reign of Chaos and The Frozen thrne Expand

What is the purpose of a remake for an intellectual property that is still relevant? For some, it is the ability to play a game again with new quality of life features or even to make the game playable whatsoever in a new generation.

What is the purpose of a remake for an intellectual property that is still relevant? For some, it is the ability to play a game again with new quality of life features or even to make the game playable whatsoever in a new generation.

However, perhaps the strongest motivator for someone to wish for a remake of an old game in a relevant franchise is not to play it, but to share it and it's relevance to your history with the franchise with those who entered the fandom at a later date.

I recall someone close to me looking forward to the release of Warcraft III: Reforged, because they had never experienced the game themselves. It was for that reason that I decided I would pre-order this game. I wanted to support a product that allowed me and friends to geek out about a game that I have played to the metaphorical death. There's no reason for me to go back to a campaign that I could practically recite word-for-word. I could provide context for every detail in the campaign and how it helped shape our perspective of the Warcraft continuity and also how it didn't; how we thought certain details were not important and are no longer remembered, but how other details are cited to this day as ironclad evidence of how superior the story was back in the day.

And so, I resolved on the idea that, if the game was going to offer both the old maps and new, updated maps, I would have a reason to play something with new content, but also to then discuss the game with players who had never tried it before and discuss how the updates differ from the original.

That is, in a sense, what was promised. A contrast between old and new and an opportunity to catch new players up on lore that has been lying dormant for an actual human generation at this point.

That is not what I and others have received. This experience combines two sins; saying nothing and saying too much. Not even in the way most people would argue.

In the original, the ability for the models to communicate complex emotions was limited to simple lip flaps. Loading the game for the first time (and after enduring my first number of visual bugs doing it), I was severely disappointed when seeing arguably the main character of the franchise, Thrall, rendered so lifeless and dead-eyed and savage that he would have just as easily fit in the Undead faction.

This is due to the simple fact that, in the original, the eyes and pupils were not even rendered, requiring the user to read into the lipflaps and not-so-subtle animations using the voice performance as a guide. As a result, Thrall appeared to be calmer than his orcish brethren, staring into the distance with a studious brow; like a young, but promising chess player surrounded by supportive jocks. Instead, the added detail of the model makes the gaze of Thrall unambigious and not for the better, making him seem unhinged as he stares into nothing with a permanent snarl on his face, with features that do not suit him. The character no longer reads as he ought to. Worse, the lack of animation to his face in sharp contrast to what was done for Starcraft 2, makes me question whether it wouldn't be better to just replace the talking faces of the characters with static paintings instead.

The utter lack of new content, new angles and new perspectives meanwhile, mean that this poorer, less ambiguous experience is not overcome with new perspectives. The strengths of the creative choices made have gone completely unutilized, making the weaknesses of the graphical updates that much worse.

This review should serve as a strong indictment of the creative vision behind this product, undoubtedly cowed by managerial corruption and misdirected outrage culture.

The only good thing about this experience has been how smoothly my product was refunded and I gather that this is not a universally shared opinion.

    Added to this the myriad technical bugs, the unnecessary rush to release, the content vacuum of Blizzard games, the changes to the original executable, the utter lack of transparency and many other reasons, I question again;

What was this product made for other than to bring the fanbase closer together? Given that it didn't, one can only say that this product has failed it's most basic purpose. This further cements that Blizzard's decision to lay off community managers who could have seen this coming is becoming Blizzard's new origin story for all it's horrid product launches and further division of a jaded costumer base.

If a game could receive negative ratings, I would give them to this game.

I am very disappointed about what Blizzard has presented to us!!
I pre-purchased the game in November, 2018, at the first moment BNEU launched pre-purchased, expecting a modernized Warcraft 3 with 2020s technology like what was showed on Blizzcon. However, what I got was ****

I have pre-purchased this game the moment it became available. WC3 is one of my favourite games of that era. I remember the countless hours spent playing various custom maps (dota mostly). I became interested in map making with my friend around the time TFT came out. Spending countless hours learning triggers and the nuance of not putting too many doodads on the map. Spending countless hours learning triggers and the nuance of not putting too many doodads on the map. While I can't claim that I would have made any maps for reforged I can say that with the new TOS any inkling to do so has evaporated. I am mostly baffled by the amount of issues at the launch of the reforged version. This seems almost deliberate, which might be weird to say but deliberate sabotage sounds better than sheer incompetence and indifference of the company towards its maybe not flagship title but one that certainly help put them on the map. I will cling to hope against hope and will not refund. However I will not be purchasing any new products until this is fixed. Expand

Gosh dang it blizzard... So much potential for this game to be amazing... Atleast keep the features fr the game you are remastering. And maybe not outsourcing the game do another company that made 20 fps character models in 2020 and visuals that DOESN'T look warcraft...

false advertisement and broken promises; a LOT of cut content from what advertised on their website when in reality what we got is hardly a graphical update. they also cut the classic wc3 client and merged it with reforged's new client, thereby ruining the original game

    > Promised new GUI and new Cut scenes weren't in the game but that's forgivable. The bugs are forgivable. Being a terrible remaster is forgivable but ruining the original with the "merge" is unforgivable.

The Culling of Stratholme cutscene was a total lie, and it was what was used to advertise the game back in 2018. Excited to hear Patrick Seitz doing a voice over on Arthas implied that the voices would be remastered.

Instead, what we got was buggy mess that failed to deliver even the rehauled cutscene. The UI is the same, I couldn't even play games vs. AI on the first day of launch.

Let this game remind you that Blizzard is a completely different company, and that it's corporate driven. The marketing for said game is really deceptive, and it offers only 5 of the ten features I looked at. It's heavily unfinished, buggy - and a corruption of what we knew the original Warcraft 3 as. And to make matters worse, you can't play the original Warcraft 3 online (sans LAN) anymore.

This is no upgrade. This is a severe downgrade to how the game has been. I was going to buy Shadowlands too, but if this is the quality of what I would be preordering, I am going to pull my funds away from Blizzard IPs and focus on other ones who would give some care and love to the games they make. Bungie had it right in splitting from Activision-Blizzard.

Amid the slew of broken promises, missing features, and cash grab antics - the biggest offender, in my opinion, is what they did to custom games. To squeeze some lemon juice on the cut they just poured salt on, is that they took down the original servers people have been playing on for 17 years. The Blizzard of my youth is dead and that breaks my heart.

The game is perfectly fine. Everyone complaining about it has a bone to pick with blizzard. I grew up on warcraft 3 and the updates are good and they were careful to stay with the spirit of the game. Most of the graphics updates are phenomenal. I would've enjoyed the cinematics getting updates all around but i can live without it. Havent run into a single bug.

Blizzard has addressed some of the complaints and criticism hurled its way, and has promised to work on many of these issues. Naturally, one must ask why the game was released in such a state, especially considering the negative attention the company has garnered over the past year with the reveal of Diablo Immortal and the Blizzard/China controversy.

In the end it’s worth noting that when viewing a remake or remaster what needs to be taken into consideration is the source material, how it looks, feels, and plays. That is, in addition to the work carried out to recreate moments, update visuals, and change any of the presentation. To do otherwise would be silly, a terrible game with a wonderful remaster doesn’t warrant a high score. In the case of Warcraft III, the inverse to that is also true. So, what we end up with is something in-between. A classic reborn, in a package that doesn’t warrant all that much in the way of celebration.

If you set your expectations a little lower, then Warcraft 3: Reforged is a game worth of your time and money. Sadly, for many of us out there, we were expecting a little more.
