  1. If you enjoy playing "Battlefield 2" and would like to experience a more frequently changing and updated gaming experience, War Rock is definitely worth trying.
  2. War Rock is not a special title, but it is a quite interesting alternative to people who’ve had enough of Counter Strike and Battlefield, though the attempt to combine them is not all that new.

Likely to remain a bog-basic, reassuringly free shooter that you might just pick up and play in an idle moment on your laptop. Very, very occasionally, in other words. [Apr 2007, p.72]
  4. With so many military FPS types available I just have a hard time recommending this title simply because you have to pay a monthly fee to enjoy benefits that in some cases are still not available.

It's an ugly game, its sound effects get annoying very quickly, and the shooting mechanics aren't very sophisticated. It's free, however, but that's about the best thing that can be said about it.
  6. War Rock is a mediocre online first-person shooter that feels more like an economic experiment than an actual retail product.
  7. In the year 2007, subscribers shouldn’t have to worry about sever stability and debilitating amounts of lag, nor should they have to suffer through a substandard interface or bargain-bin audio.
  8. As a free, unlimited, online shooter, War Rock fits the bill quite well, however the more money you put into it, the more you will begin to see its flaws.

A free massively multiplayer tactical first-person shooter in the vein of "Counter-Strike" and the "Battlefield" games? Sounds too good to be true! And, guess what? It is! [June 2007, p.66]
  10. The biggest problem here is the dated feel of it all.

A decent enough online shooter. If you really need another one. [Apr 2007, p.89]
  12. It's not that War Rock doesn't have a good idea for gameplay direction, as the persistent ranking and economy is an idea that the genre has yet to fully explore. At the same time this direction has no momentum behind it and sometimes seems haphazard at best in its implementation.

Paying money for something like this shameless and undercooked feels like shaking the hand of the guy who's shagging your wife. [May 2007, p.76]
  14. The nagging question is why on earth should a second-rate FPS game that's so indebted to its peers - and one of which, in the case of BF2, does a persistent character thing for free - think it can get away with demanding a subscription fee for any of its content? Answer: It really can't.

Not that great of a game... but still better than any F2P Title released by Electronic Arts.
