Computer Gaming WorldEven more than Anna Kournikova, US Open 2002 makes me more interested in tennis. [Nov 2002, p.130]
-
PC GamerTennis nuts will like it, but I'm still pining for a control-perfect "Virtua Tennis" port. [Nov 2002, p.132]
-
Arguably the finest PC-based tennis simulation to date. It is strategic, positional, somewhat realistic, and at times extremely challenging.
-
There are plenty of modes, surfaces, and players, combined with some sharp visuals, but unfortunately, the slow gameplay and weak intelligence of opponents dampened the overall experience for me.
-
Where "Virtua Tennis" was tight, precise, responsive, polished, and complete, US Open 2002 is clumsy, awkward, and very straightforward.
-
Computer opponents are simply too good, too tireless. Points constantly drag on, as your foe can get to almost every ball that you hit.
-
From the shoddy AI, to the animation and controls that make it seem like you're always playing on mud, U.S. Open fails on an amazing number of levels.
