Gameplay is a refined, rogue-lite take on the run-and-gun gameplay of Doom and its contemporaries, where players need only find a series of keys and return to the entrance to escape. However, matters are complicated by a unique "heat" mechanic: any actions by the player, opening doors, picking up items, etc. have a chance to increase your heat, and when it builds up enough, a new wave of enemies is spawned into the level, and almost never where you can easily spot them. This essentially creates a situation where you are desperately on the run, pursued by the agents of some malign force.

Combined with the creepy appearances and jerky movements of the enemies, the withered look of the environment and the masterfully atmospheric score, as well as the bits of disturbing lore revealed by the photos you collect, it all lends a sense towards a single, irrefutable fact: You are not wanted here.

You are able to collect trinkets with which to upgrade your character to better face higher difficulties, but there is some definite mid-game grind where the only way to get better trinkets is to have higher-level players carry you through the two highest difficulties, Beast Mode and Unearthly. In addition, there are some troublesome lag issues resulting in a noticeable input delay when you are playing in other people's lobbies. There is also no way to create a friends only lobby at present. Updates continue, however, along with the requisite bugfixes.
