If you’re a fan of the Sim City series, then give this a look. It’s a nice diversion for a few hours, but I really can’t advise spending a lot of money to buy it. You’ll be more than happy if you play for a week, so try renting it.

PC Gamer UKTrue Crime is a trashy, lazily converted, shamelessly derivative and occasionally buggy game where you get to crash cars and hit people a lot. On those terms, I rather enjoyed it. [Sept 2006, p.94]
-
The PC port feels very sloppy overall, almost as if Aspyr simply got it working and then left it at that. If you're interested in this game, check out either of the console versions.
-
PC GamerThe contrived plot gets spiced up with convincing voice acting and smooth cinematic animations, but slick style doesn't hold up against bland levels and repetitive missions, making this just another GTA clone, but with even more f-bombs and bloodshed. [July 2006, p.55]

On paper, it's got the potential to be more than a match for "San Andreas"; in practice, it's nowhere near it.
-
As more was revealed, however, numerous bugs caused the game to become unbearably frustrating.
-
The controls need work, the engine needs work, the collision detection needs work, the AI needs serious work, all in all I wouldn't be surprised if you told me this was a beta.
-
Even if you forgive the flimsy story, cliché characters, and derivative gameplay, it's impossible to look past the myriad frustrating technical problems that plague this game.
