    If you want pure action with spectacular shootouts, then Trepang2 is here for you. Although don't expect too much. You get adrenaline and intense action with decent numbers of enemies and poor story.

    Trepang2 could have been a gem in the FPS genre, as it has an enviable combat mechanic, but the rest of the structure is mediocre. However, the foundations it lays are solid, so a potential sequel is capable of being a milestone for the genre, as was the case with its inspirator.

    Trepang2 does nothing to hide its true nature, which is to be a decent fps, very fun in the shooting phases, but poor in all the rest of the game package.

    Trepang2 misses the target on several aspects like its story or construction. Its basic but efficient gameplay succeeds more or less to "save" the game.

    I can gripe about Trepang2's tone and I can shrug at its plot and I can pout about its length but that's all fine, really. Criticisms fade when I launch it to double-check a detail then get lost bursting heads for 20 minutes before remembering I have a review to finish. I already fancy returning to check out higher difficulty levels or the many cheats and modifiers unlocked after finishing the game (ranging from 'Only Headshots Kill' to 'Squeaky Voices'), or just to shoot faces all over again. Oh, I do enjoy shooting these faces! I'm hoping new missions might follow if it does well, or even that 2005 FPS staple, an expansion pack.

    I wanted to give this game a high score. It's such a love letter to games like F.E.A.R. which remains a personal favorite and one of theI wanted to give this game a high score. The combat is very visceral and punchy, it overall reminds me of if F.E.A.R. and modern Doom (for the amount of blood and gore) had a baby together. The soundtrack is also really good!

    However when confronted with the fact that the developers thought it was acceptable to gate weapons, attachments, and VIP targets behind a minimum difficulty, I can't do so in good faith. This is compounded by the fact that the required difficulties for at least two targets is accompanied by an actual warning stating that even the Devs have issues with it. There ARE mods that can address this issue but in all honesty, you shouldn't NEED to use mods for something like this. This goes for any game. For all their faults, FromSoft figured out that you shouldn't gate achievements behind difficult tasks pretty quickly after Knight's Honor, it's not a 1:1 comparison but it gets my point across. It's very sad that Trepang Studios didn't get the memo.    … Full Review »

I've already replayed my favorite levels and must say it gets even better and more fun as your skill increases.
