It's a masterpiece, a game that you start in the morning and finish in the evening, to never play it again, then you smile watching the credits roll on the screen while also watching the sunset outside your window.

Trek To Yomi offers simple but still fun and challenging side scrolling combat in front of a beautiful backdrop; crafted alongside full voice acting and enjoyable linear level design.

This game is a piece of art that you must play for yourself to admire. It's very short and there's nothing to not like about this game. Combat is simple yet elegant and finishers are satisfying. The experience is more akin to watching an old Japanese samurai movie but you're in control.

This linear action adventure may seem simple at first but is as deep as the ocean with story, voice acting, cinematography and skillful sword combat.

Explore and check nooks and crannies for upgrades to your health, stamina and ranged attacks. Be careful as you navigate areas to only be swarmed by 3 or more enemies. Defend and use precision to strike and slay the villains.

The linearity of the game is similar to Limbo, as you head either left or right to navigate levels. Yet, you can break away at times and explore, climb and search around for collectables, upgrades and shrines. The fixed camera angles that hide secrets and hidden paths reminds me of Resident Evil. As you navigate around a corner, the camera will adjust, revealing a new area.

Your path through the game gets emotional, yet Hiroki will gain more combos and ranged attacks so you need to strategize to make it through the many many fights you will endure as well as the bosses you encounter.

The visuals wow! This game is all atmosphere. The controls are basic but didn't expect much more from this kind of game.

Personally, I really don't understand any hate for this game. The combat isn't great. However, the art is absolutely incredible and, its certainly a fun experience. Overall, I enjoyed the game despite the mediocre combat and shortness of the story.

TREK TO YOMI IS as close to a movie as a side scrolling slasher can get. Trek is a simple game on the surface you can win fights with the bear minimum move set, but if you are anything like me and want to add a lot of flair to your attacks it offers plenty of diversity. Trek is not a AAA game and yet it feels comparable somehow with its incredible cinematics and outstanding performances by the Japanese cast. I must warn anyone playing the english va is terrible you can tell it was an after thought so I wouldn't even bother. This game is best played in its native tongue. Trek to Yomi is a beeath of fresh air to side scrolling slashers/beat em ups and I hope to see this trend of incredible cinematics in other games like it become a staple in the future. Expand

It's a fact that the black and white treatment helps the game a lot. In the end, it's a nice little one-shot that works more as an atmospheric experience than a game. Especially if you're into samurai and old movies. [Issue#320]

Trek to Yomi is a game with great promise that, unfortunately, fails to live up to expectations. Despite this, it also succeeds in areas where most games fail. Few games can lay claim to this level of stylistic fidelity. However, its shortcomings are too vast and all-encompassing to ignore. It feels like a game that tries desperately to be more than it is, to have more nuance, more to say. Unfortunately, it's not just the color scheme that's black and white.

Trek to Yomi’s opening chapter really builds expectation for what will follow, but what does follow doesn’t live up to that promise. It’s a gorgeous game to watch, but the gameplay simply falls short of matching the quality of the visuals.
