Having previously gobbled up the great Ghost of Tsushima, I was eager to find another love letter to Kurosawa in Trek to Yomi. On an aesthetic level, my expectations were completely blown out of the water — the famed filmmaker has been honored like never before. When it comes to gameplay, I’m completely satisfied, my desire for another Way of the Samurai fulfilled, but I can see someone who skipped this era of gaming less enthused. If samurai games of yesteryear were your thing, Trek to Yomi is absolutely worth side-scroll slicing your way through the belly of the underworld for.

This is ankurosawa style film grain and black & white is so great for me, it kind of reminds me of jackie chan stuntmaster from the PS2 era . This is an Indie game which is glitch free and bloody as hell. I like the combat, story and music but really only complaint I have is I would like some soft music in the pause menu. All games should some sort of sound in a pause menu besides silence. Definitely try this game if you can. Expand

I have to admit that after the first hour, there is not much that the game has offered that goes beyond my expectation, storyline, stage design, combat system, enemy design, puzzle. They all check the boxes and only check the boxes.

This is one of those games that excels in one aspect and does it really well. As it only cost a couple of hours to finish, i'd say it is worth trying.

A huge disappointment with repetitive combat and bosses plus lackluster story, but still worth a shot just for the art style.

Kurosawa vibe with simple gameplay. I had a nice playthrough, just wanted a game to casual play through and this was perfect.

The worst combat system - sluggish, unpredictable, and janky. The worst parry system in any game. Restrictive movement and camera.
