First of all, the first thing I want to point out is don't buy or play this game if you want to feel nostalgic. If you are a true Total War fan and would like to have Total War: Rome REMASTERED in your library, you can buy it and play it. However, I would like to point out that the game is Remaster, not Remake. By knowing this, buy and play the game. Otherwise, you will be grievously disappointed.

Although there are new elements and improvements, naturally, there are mostly improvements without going beyond graphic enhancement. However, I prefer the AI of Rome: Total War to the AI of Total War: Rome REMASTERED. In the REMASTERED version, both the campaign map and battle AI are disgraceful; at least that's how I experienced it. Units change formations just randomly. Sometimes they are acting like I'm not giving the order them to do something. The only bad thing about the REMASTERED version is the AI, and it is bad, really bad. I mean it!

However, the game has its advantages, too. Total War: Rome REMASTERED appears to be a completely new game that was not released as an improvement over the original Rome: Total War. This is the point that makes me worried. So, it also means they're changing artificial intelligence. If only they hadn't... From the graphics improvements to the game's REMASTERED version, there are more user-friendly elements in the game, also new contents that we haven't seen in the original Rome: Total War. The game supports ultra HD resolution. There's also amazing updated 3D unit models and textures, widescreen and ultra-wide monitor support. Not to mention the new agent Merchant, of course. The atmosphere of war, campaign map and visual effects are also included in the graphic development. The new pieces of information and lines on the faction, trade, summary, etc. screen and unit information screens on the campaign map of the game have also been improved. In addition, improved camera and control settings have been added to the game. In addition to these, there are also quick access lists to facilitate access.

Overall, it is a good game to experience Rome: Total War with good graphics and atmosphere, but as I said before; "...don't buy or play this game if you want to feel nostalgic. If you are a true Total War fan and would like to have Total War: Rome REMASTERED in your library, you can buy it and play it. By the way, I started with Julii, and defeated the Gauls, fought with Britannia and Spain to the death, did Marian Reforms, conquered half of Europe, hit to top on the economy; that was a good experience. But, I'm not talking about AI.

I really liked it. But has battles really show their age now. However, I really hope this game did well enough for us to get a M2TW Remaster.

Adding the new improvements from games like Napoleon or Empire Total War, the remastered of the masterpiece Rome: Total War is a good game.

Rome 1 was the best Total War game. You don't even have to take my word for it, it has a 92 on this site, 2 higher than Shogun2, the closest competitor. What the remaster did was truly faithful to the original.

I will say that if you are expecting a remake, you will be disappointed. Its a remaster, not a remake. The amazing thing about the remaster is that it allows you to toggle back to

I will say that if you are expecting a remake, you will be disappointed. Its a remaster, not a remake. The amazing thing about the remaster is that it allows you to toggle back to the original settings if you wish. They added medieval2 merchants, overhauled every piece of art in the game, improved campaign ai, and increased modding potential. Sadly the battle ai is unimproved, which was the weakest part of the 2004 release. You can expect to have the same enjoyment as the original, with some benefits. Currently there is work on a remaster for a famous mod, Roma Surrectum. Roma Surrectum is a mod which extends the campaign map, adds factions, and overall improved the original experience. Now that 31 factions are possible in the engine, as well as more regions,, you can expect an experience like no other when it releases.

Overall this is the best way to play Rome 1. Rome still surpasses it's sequel, especially now, and if you deal with some jank, it is a game on tiers with Ocarina of Time in charm and quality. I give this game a nearly perfect 9/10.

All is great and improved, the only thing that is not so great is the campaign map interface when dealing with cities and armies, rome 2 interface is way superior in that respect.

The remaster has been waiting for a long time. I am very glad to play this game again in new graphics. The interface has been conveniently redesigned. There are questions about random lags and artificial intelligence.

Does ancient AI ruin the fun? No, and neither do some graphical flaws. There’s a reason for Rome being so cherished by Total War fans, and the developers did great job at rejuvenating this magnificent classic. Grab your pilum, Carthage must be destroyed! [07/2021, p.66]

A decent remaster of a great game. I just hope the devs will squash all the remaining bugs, tune-up AI, fix pathfinding and add mod support.

Total War: Rome Remastered cleans up the original, but the game won't win a beauty prize. There's a ton of content, with all of the Rome: Total War expansions included and the freedom to play all nations right away. Although it is certainly not a bad game, it is clear to experienced Total War players that the technology has moved on. A somewhat stupid artificial intelligence prevents Total War: Rome Remastered from claiming a place among modern strategy games.
