Apr 28, 2021Rome Remastered is the perfect way to experience Total War's antiquity offering in 2021 short of a third Rome title.
-
May 24, 2021Not a new game, but a good updating of an older classic. Gamers new to strategy, and those who missed the original, will find this well worth playing.
-
Apr 28, 2021This is a perfect example of how to remaster a classic: by adding many technical improvements without forgetting what made the original so special.
-
Apr 28, 2021The very heart of the playf experience has been remodeled to adapt to the current times and this means a functional user interface, revised in a minimalist style, stripped of distortions and unnecessary frills. Better management of menus and visuals, the introduction of a new type of unit in addition to the unlocking of 16 new factions (and of course all the DLC and mod support), finally, complete an offer that both the old centurions desk as much as the new Tribunes of the Plebs should not be missed.
-
Apr 28, 2021Excellent throwback to memories of our younger selves, Total War: Rome Remastered reminds us how good the basics of this series were and how far it has travelled in the last seventeen years.

CD-ActionDec 7, 2021Does ancient AI ruin the fun? No, and neither do some graphical flaws. There’s a reason for Rome being so cherished by Total War fans, and the developers did great job at rejuvenating this magnificent classic. Grab your pilum, Carthage must be destroyed! [07/2021, p.66]

May 13, 2021All in all, if you're a Total War fan, especially someone who loved Rome: Total War back in the day, Total War: Rome Remastered is a fantastic way to jump back into the older game with some modern improvements. You'll have to get past some of the more archaic bits of the design, but the core experience: conquering the world and ushering your faction through Rome's civil war period is still so satisfying.
-
May 9, 2021Like revisiting a long-lost friend: Total War: Rome Remastered immediately sucks in strategy-fans with a newly polished map, the fantastic soundtrack and a couple of quality-of-life-changes. Just the AI is a little wonky from time to time and the newer games of the series deliver a more complex campaign.
-
Apr 28, 2021Total War: Rome Remastered is the perfect way to relive the old memories and conquer the ancient world once again. The hugely improved graphics, general bug fixing and the with new control schemes and interface also make it a more accessible product for newcomers as well.

Apr 28, 2021Total War: Rome Remastered is a great remastering of one of the most influential and important strategy games in the history of gaming, though it is warts and all. Certain improvements are invaluable in bringing the original closer to modern sensibilities, though they only go so far, allowing issues like pathfinding to remain, as well as a dense-as-concrete AI, even though it has been improved. However, no matter the issues, the gameplay is engaging, exciting and most of all, fun. This is a massive game, featuring two extensive expansions that have also been remastered, and one that I would recommend to any fan of the original, any fan of Total War and anybody who wants to ease themselves into the series with a game from simpler times.

Apr 28, 2021Total War: Rome Remaster is the perfect way to enjoy a milestone of the past: it still has flaws but Feral Interactive did a very good job.
-
Apr 28, 2021Total War: Rome Remastered is a top quality remaster of what remains an engaging strategy game. While I can’t directly compare from experience, the modernization of many of its gameplay aspects, the introduction of a host of new playable factions, and the strength of the existing systems allow it to stand alongside more recent editions of the franchise without any trouble. If you haven’t experienced Rome: Total War before, I recommend playing this remaster.
-
Apr 28, 2021Total War: Rome Remastered reflects quality and care from every raised gladius and stray denarius. We think you’ll love this, says the remaster. If not, no worries, you can change it. It's more difficult that modern Total War games to get into, but it's undoubtedly a great package. So, two thumbs up then. Or to the side, if you want to be a stickler for history.
-
Apr 28, 2021A lovingly crafted refresh of a classic Total War game that manages to recapture both its triumphs and its tragedies.
-
Apr 28, 2021Decent remaster, which not only revives the strengths of Rome, but unfortunately also the inept AI.
-
Jul 9, 2021Total War: Rome Remastered cleans up the original, but the game won't win a beauty prize. There's a ton of content, with all of the Rome: Total War expansions included and the freedom to play all nations right away. Although it is certainly not a bad game, it is clear to experienced Total War players that the technology has moved on. A somewhat stupid artificial intelligence prevents Total War: Rome Remastered from claiming a place among modern strategy games.
-
Jul 12, 2021A decent remaster of a great game. I just hope the devs will squash all the remaining bugs, tune-up AI, fix pathfinding and add mod support.
-
May 11, 2021Total War: Rome was the really big breakout moment for the series, and as a bona fide classic, the remaster makes sense - even if it is just for the sake of nostalgia. I don't think the strategy genre necessarily lends itself to modernisation when the thing that needs moderising the most would have taken Rome Remastered and turned it into Total War: Rome 3, but if you remember what it's like to enjoy older strategy games like Rome, the remaster is going to be quite the rush.
-
May 1, 2021If you're a fan of Rome Total War and still play it, this remastered version will probably enchant you with its more modern controls, HD, workshop compatibility, 16 factions unlocked, and a healthy dose of nostalgia to top it off. all. In that, this remake is rather successful, especially as the formula is generally still effective. On the other hand, we must admit that certain elements show the weight of the years and in particular AI. The new interface is also not very intuitive and the graphics remain below those of Total War: Rome 2. Finally, if you do not have a particular aversion for the latter, it is rather advisable to turn to it because it is more complete on almost all points.
-
Apr 28, 2021This remastered gives a new look to one of the greatest Total War ever made, but the series has gone too much forward in the last years and Total War Rome Remastered sometimes feels like a trip into another era.
-
Apr 28, 2021Total War: Rome is still a stand-out strategy game, and this remaster makes it more fun to look at and easier to play. It's a little underwhelming to go back to for a series veteran when newer Total Wars have modernized the campaign design, UI, and AI opponents so significantly. But there's plenty of nostalgia to be had, and those pre-battle speeches can give me chills just like they did in ancient times.

Apr 28, 2021Quotation forthcoming.
-
Apr 28, 2021Total War: Rome Remastered is a solid technical remaster of a classic game, but fails to legitimately improve and adapt for modern sensibilities.
-
May 26, 2021The old design failures are still here, coupled with new ones - mainly annoying bugs. It’s true, however, that some parts of the game, namely its graphics, are far better than they used to be. There is still a place in this world for Rome.
-
May 4, 2021It's difficult to recommend Total War: Rome Remastered to anyone who didn't already play and love the original game as the series has significantly evolved for the better over the past 18 years. A new lick of paint and some quality of life improvements aren't enough to make this remaster an appealing option for newcomers when better Total War games already exist. That's not to say it doesn't deserve its place either. At this point, Rome: Total War is unaccommodating on modern hardware, so this remaster solves that issue with an improved and updated version of the original game. It might not stack up against its contemporaries, but Total War: Rome Remastered is the best way to play a series classic, warts and all.
-
May 3, 2021Total War: Rome Remastered is a blast of nostalgia for those who have fond memories of losing hours of their night as they attempt to conquer just one more enemy city. Nostalgia is also the primary selling point for the game, however, as new players would be better-suited starting with a more recent title and experienced fans will miss certain quality of life features present in modern strategy games. While Total War: Rome Remastered does an honorable job of reviving an old classic, the fresh coat of paint does little to cover up its outdated mechanics, and it's likely that only established fans looking to return to a title they loved once before will get much out the remaster as a result.

Apr 28, 2021Total War: Rome Remastered is an interesting update of the 2004 classic. However, the improvements in the graphics can end up knowing little in some aspects such as animations and lighting effects on the battlefield. The addition of the two expansions and their available features from the start make it a definitive edition to consider. Quality of life improvements, improved camera and zoom, and accessibility options make it a product to be reckoned with, but not attractive enough to catch up with contemporary Total War games.
-
Apr 28, 2021The result is a competent remaster and the best way to play this classic Total War, but it still can't compete with its modern heirs.
