Feb 13, 2024If there’s any way to summarize Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, it’s that it’s amazing to realize just how well those classic games have aged over the decades. I've enjoyed powering through the games with the new modern art, but it's the level design and gameplay that keep bringing me back. With minimal changes to the formula, the modernized appearance is all these games needed to gain a new lease of life. Tomb Raider was ahead of its time back in 1996, and this proves that even today Lara Croft still has what it takes.

Feb 14, 2024Although the series’s core gameplay is action-adventure, it offers much more than that. You progress through levels and different parts of the world, and they are quite challenging with no guidance provided. Tomb Raider is a game that requires a lot of trial and error, so it’s always a good idea to save your progress frequently. Numerous traps in the game can catch you off guard, such as rolling boulders, spike pits, and even a T-Rex lurking around the corner. If we view the trilogy through a modern lens, we can see that it has the same level of difficulty as a Soulsborne game, while also featuring a Metroidvania-style design.

Feb 13, 2024For veteran gamers, Tomb Raider Remastered I-III is a great time capsule of a very popular trilogy of games that moved the action/adventure genre forward. For recent gamers, this collection is an excellent way to experience the games that the modern action/adventure games of today evolved from.

Mar 13, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered remains an excellent collection of Lara’s first adventures that allows fans, both new and old, to dive into Lara’s earliest days and see where she got her start. Here’s hoping that The Last Revelation, Chronicles, and Angel of Darkness will be part of a second collection!

Feb 26, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is a careful, respectful and well-handled re-proposal of three masterpieces now available for new and past generation consoles. It is a great proof of preservation in a landscape that, at times, cannot keep up with the times. Returning to the role of Lara Croft is always an absolute thrill, exactly like the first time, which for me was with Tomb Raider: Legend.

Feb 26, 2024Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is a blessing for fans of the series. It not only presents the first three games of Lara Croft with all their additional packages, renewed graphics and controls, but also remains extremely faithful to the original. But this 'loyalty' may alienate some of the new generation of players.

Feb 19, 2024Aspyr brings back the original adventures of Lara Croft with a respectful remastering that improves the graphics and controls, but also has some flaws and inconsistencies. The gameplay remains faithful to the essence of these classics, with a focus on exploration and puzzles that is rare to find nowadays, despite the outdated shooting mechanics and some quality of life issues in the menus.
-
Feb 13, 2024Tomb Raider Remastered is an impressive and authentic update. Too authentic in some places, though.

Feb 13, 2024No matter all this griping, nothing should take away from the most important thing: that this preserves three vitally important games from gaming history—in their original form—for at least another few years. The new art and controls can be switched off, meaning you’ve got those classic games on your latest console, and that’s not to be sniffed at. Every other aspect, however: sniff away.
