Feb 19, 2024Tomb Raider Remastered I-III is more of an updated version of the main games rather than a fully remastered one. Apart from the new modern control which still struggles to keep up with today’s standards, there isn’t anything new to the game. While that may be good for the old fans of the series, it will create a struggle for new players and therefore not be able to enjoy some of the best exploration games out there.

Feb 13, 2024If you're here for nostalgia's sake, more power to you, but if you're expecting a sweeping remaster of this beloved trilogy that brings it up to date in a meaningful way, you'll have to keep waiting.

Feb 13, 2024Tomb Raider Remastered trilogy works well as an interactive, renovated monument in a video game museum. It's a collection made for gaming veterans longing for those gone days when the sky was bluer and games were created out of pure passion rather than a desire for profit. Younger gamers uninterested in the history of the genre are unlikely to find anything for themselves here except a lesson in humility, through which they'll begin to appreciate the convenience of modern games.

Mar 5, 2024Quite an enjoyable remaster made with respect for the originals. However, the first game in the series was released almost 30 years ago and there’s no way to hide it, so you’ll endure some jarring here and there, sometimes painful. The collection will probably attract veterans and retro enthusiasts, but I doubt younger gamers will find it appealing.

Feb 14, 2024However frustrating Tomb Raider I-III Remastered may be to modern eyes, there’s no denying that these games perfectly capture the spirit of the originals. Whether any of that is enough to appeal to modern audiences remains to be seen, but if you want a game that caters to your PS1 nostalgia, this is definitely it.

Feb 14, 2024Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered is clearly aimed at nostalgics who are not put off by the outdated game design and who want to relive the old adventures with Lara in a prettier look. In its time, Tomb Raider was a game series that set new standards. But nostalgia is a tricky thing and often good memories don't stand up to scrutiny with modern eyes.
-
Feb 13, 2024The game design is completely outdated, but you get a lot of old-school Tomb Raider for your bucks!
-
Feb 18, 2024The high level of sentimental value brought by a trilogy of games that was an essential part of 90’s pop culture uner a solid artistic direction sees itself held back by technical issues around modern controls that makes the game frustrating and borderline unplayable.

Feb 14, 2024It's difficult to give a score to Tomb Raider I-III Remastered. On the one hand, some of the improvements are quite good. The inclusion of extra levels for each game to make them more accessible is always welcome, and the improved modern controls are certainly welcome unless your muscle memory is attuned to the old tank-style controls. On the other hand, the very slight graphical improvements are overshadowed by the fact that the game design fails to keep modern controls in mind, and no other changes have been made to bring it up to modern standards. Considering the pedigree of the games, the result is a package that's fine but could've been much, much better.

Feb 13, 2024No matter all this griping, nothing should take away from the most important thing: that this preserves three vitally important games from gaming history—in their original form—for at least another few years. The new art and controls can be switched off, meaning you’ve got those classic games on your latest console, and that’s not to be sniffed at. Every other aspect, however: sniff away.
