There is a lot of missions, bosses, PVP, underground farming, etc. Although almost all activities, all missions in "The Division" are pretty much the same - go from A to B by killing everything in your way (solo or with group) it's still quite fun for me.
However, I believe this game is worth buying only for those who are true enthusiastic gamers and have a lot of free time, because "The Division" is very time consuming game and it takes quite a while to get top end gear. And that's the problem with this game - you HAVE to have best gear if you want to get maximum fun of it, because without best weapons and gear sets you will do no damage at all, you will die quickly and you will be pissed off because of it in no time.
In conclusion I would recommend this game, but only if you have much time to play it, because it demands a lot of grinding to acquire better gear and to get you among the best.

Graphics and gameplay mechanics are great, but in contrast to Ghost Recon Wildlands the story is no good. Do not get me wrong: I do not criticise the idea of the story: restore order, but there are hardly no dialogues, cut scenes or other ways to communicate the story.

There is so much wrong with this game. The absurd bar of entry in the multiplayer, repetitive missions/encounters, 60% of my time was spent running around, and fast traveling, A.I can be really dumb, and maybe more I missed. But I still enjoyed it. New York here, is amazing. It's barren, cold, and unsafe due to the Dollar Flu. Never really felt boring to look around. The combat, it's a mixed bag. Unlike Outriders, cover will actually be necessary. The first combat encounter will emphasize this, standing out in the open is not a good idea, at all! The cover system is fine, works pretty well, and is a moderate annoyance at worst. I don't like that you can heal instantly. I thought D2 did it better where you had to take time to do it and you were very vulnerable. Gunplay is pretty nice, the recoil makes sense, the sound design is pretty neat, and the impact is noticeable. Enemy variety, is unfortunately lacking here. There are generic rioters, the cleaners with flamethrowers attached to them, which will force you out of close range, and need to take them down from a distance. Rikers don't feel much different from normal rioters. I said A.I can be really dumb, and sometimes it is. But the enemies do flank you from time to time, and can create interesting encounters depending on where you're fighting. Now of course, the loot, basically the only reason to play this genre. It's great, especially when you finally get to move to a higher loot tier. The mods are a nice way to slightly alter your weapons, and aren't insanely complicated. The skills are pretty nice, and can be used to compliment your build. And build flexibility, is at its best here. Loadouts in this game can be used to save a certain build and can be changed when out of combat in an instant. This applies to armor, guns, and skills. It's especially useful when needing the right tool for the right job. Now... The always online bs is a bad practice. Give us an option to play offline. PLEASE. There are so many things wrong with this idea, crashing servers, screwing over console players with no ps plus or xbox live gold, annoying players, the list goes on. And for what? So I guess I need to talk about the story, and characters. Not interested. Not bad, just don't really care. Borderlands 2 is the only game that got me interested. So I guess that's it. Love it or hate it, the Division is something unique, a unique dumpster fire, or a unique game that's not terrible. Expand

It's an average game, simple entertainment for the simple mind. Division is a typical AAA product, on the outside nice and shiny, on the inside mundane and primitive systems reveal themselves.

Carrot on a stick: Basically the whole game revolves around you searching for loot in order to be stronger than your enemies, there no other real substance right now, but this will probably be covered by all the pay DLC that they have planned out for the 1 year to finish their game and provide more worthwhile content, or they deliver a batch of more stale Fast Food, we will see.

This gear dependency alone makes PVP a chore to balance and to set foot in as casual gamers, let alone enjoy the Dark Zone with it's severe penalties to engage in PVP. It's like the game highly encourages you to stick to pve or create a second character where you can cut away the risk of losing loot.

I can understand when people enjoy the simple things, but this turn off brain & shoot everything game shows me that the AAA industry has no balls or are simply not willing to release something really worthwhile. This is basically the Destiny formula in a modern setting, with a nice carrot on a stick as core mechanic to keep people interested. I already see streamer after streamer getting bored from the game, since it's really all the same over and over.

Wait for a sale where they sell everything for 30 bucks. imo the game is not worth more than that.

It looks good and I think that with a little more work, effort, polish and imagination this game could have been something wonderful instead of something simply mediocre.

All the trash and all the chaos right within the details. If you ask me, I want to play this game, when this mayhem was happening, not after!! Playing the game, I can't get over the feeling that I missed all the action, I'm just there as a clean up crew. The settings and the visuals really tells about a terrible event taking place months (or years?) before my arrival.
Now..onto the game mechanics and gameplay. While the idea about the game itself may work on paper or in a book, it just doesn't. While having all the details and brand new game engine, which seems like something I want to be utilized for more games, instead of the decade old cry-engine or unreal engine; despite all the details and back story, the game feels dull and boring, including the settings.
Once you seen 3-4 streets, you've seen them all. Plastic bags, broke down cars, garbage and body bags. There just isn't anything spectacular to see or experience.
Same with the gameplay. New players hoping to experience something better after 3-4 hours, are in for a sour disappointment, that the entire game will be, just like the first 2-3 hours. Run around the streets and shoot hoodies or guys with a flamethrowers. It just becomes an endless grind, especially with the side missions.
Upgrades are extremely dull. I just can't get excited about a new baseball hat. Especially, if it doesn't even do anything, it's just barbie-doll dressing, it serves no function. Weapon mods- giving me 3% increase in stability and such - are so pointless, that I don't care if I have it or not. I mean..3% or 5% does it even matter, when you shoot 100 bullets into a boss, so now instead of a 100, you shoot 97? Think about it. You disassemble 5 guns to have 5 weapons parts and from the 5 weapon parts you create one weapon mod, that gives you an upgrade, that is essentially equal to nothing?
I just can't fathom what the developers were thinking about while making this game. Really I can't. Just bad ideas on top of bad ideas. A waste of resources, a waste of time to create a a mediocre shooter on a next gen engine, with a lack of comprehension of what makes a good gameplay. Like, they never made a game before, or they lack an insight about what people think is fun and impressive and pleasing. Like the developers were robots, which work by a conveyor belt in a factory and the only fun they can relate to is doing the same thing over and over with no end in sight.
I won't even mention the "Dark Zone". I tried it, it's either full of hackers or just as boring and empty as the rest of the game area. Houses and streets and garbage, with hoodies and various level bullet sponge bosses roaming around.
I hate to say, but after leveling 15 times, the most fun I had was shooting at various objects (car windows, construction site cones etc) and see how they react or brake.
I will be fair. Credit is given where it's due, and the game gets a 5, instead of 1. Why?
Because, obviously they spent some crazy amount of time on the graphics and settings. So thumbs up for the game engine devs and whoever worked on the details. Unfortunately giving credit ends there. The rest of the game could have been made in 1997, when mouse aiming and collecting items were probably a thing.
Not sure if it's a great idea gone wrong, or the the idea was wrong all along, but nobody noticed?

    -Interesting variety of weapons
-Interesting main plotline story although not as engaging as it should really be
    -Grouping can be fun
    -Gunplay is, initially, fun

    Cons:

-Bugs. Graphical glitches and bugs specific to being in a group like the teleport to your teammate dialogue never going away despite him being right in front of you. Your teammate "moonwalking" in front of you, seeming to never take cover and shooting with the wrong weapon looking like an action figure. Relogging seems to be the only way to fix this.
-AI is dumb as bricks. They make poor use of cover, grenades and tactics as a whole. Melee enemies will charge you without support of supressing fire from allies. Headshots don't seem to do much. It could be worse, true, but still disappointing, given the hype surrounding this title
-"Upgrades" don't seem to follow a logical progression and stats on gear seem to be a little too random. I've gotten green level 7-8 guns that weren't as good as my green quality level 3 Poice M4A1 carbine. All I can say is ?????. It makes things more confusing than they need to be. Being used to min-maxing from other games, I can deal with this shortcoming but it's a little annoying.
-Lag and disconnects. I experienced a lot of lag and disconnects trying to group up but I expect this will be eventually fixed. Still, annoying that it creeped into release.
-World feels even more lifeless than it needs to be. I understand about the plague, etc but still there's just something missing. You just don't feel invested in trying to make things better for these people. There is little to tug at your emotional strings. If they'd added some non-combat missions where you care for the sick or something like that it would have at least tried to get you more invested in trying to improve things for these people. A missed opportunity on the part of Ubisoft I think.
-Hacks. I haven't experienced these myself because I am not high enough level to venture into the Dark Zone but it's basically a hack-ridden gank-fest from everything people have described. It kind of runs counter to the lore of the game. Ultra-top-secret government operatives supposedly working towards a common goal murdering each other in cold blood without penalty for loot? How does that make any sense?

All in all, it's not a bad game but not great either. The inclusion of microtransactions in the game irks me. We already paid full price for the game and there is a DLC pack that costs almost as much as the game itself. The game hit the top sellers list on Steam and probably on other vendors like GMG, EBGames, etc. Microtransactions were not required to make them any more cash yet they just couldn't resist.

At this point I can only give it a 5/10. It's ok for short-term fun but I question f the longevity of the game's appeal. It's like a more boring version of Destiny, the other shooter that also tries to be an MMO.

Would have been a lot better if the darkzone was co-op vs npcs instead of PvP because obviously, that was going to cause hackers to appear and naturally, they did making it virtually unplayable. This was a learning experience for Ubisoft and sadly wrecked the Division from becoming the game it promised to be.

Its worth playing for the single player experience for about $10, thats about it.

What started as a 12/10 game has quickly devolved into repetitive nonsense and a sense of violent anger towards my monitor at the lack of progression.

I suppose we can start with the good. I live in NYC and the map is extremely realistic. The story is believable: A bioterrorist unleashes a deadly virus that quickly ravages New York City. You are part of an elite government military organization called The Division that's sent in to restore order, mainly by shooting the same hooded/masked red names until you hit max level. Then you do it some more.

The weapons are nice and there are a lot of them, though due to balance issues, you'll probably only find yourself using a few. Each weapon has a few mod slots where you can improve your magazine or scope to better suit your style of play. However build diversity is limited due to poor balance. For example, for some reason you have an ability that shoots an explosive device and the damage of that item is capped at 250k and has a long cooldown. Meanwhile your sniper rifle can reach upwards of a million damage and that has no cooldown except how well you can aim. It makes no sense.

Leveling up is extremely repetitive. You progress through leveled zones and every few zones there is a main mission that progresses the story, basically the only saving grace of the level up process. Between that every zone has the same side quests that you repeat over and over again until you hate yourself.

Once you actually hit the max, there's not much else to do. You can repeat the missions you've already done, just on a harder difficulty, meaning the bad guys will begin to shrug off 100 or more rounds to the head with ease. These challenge missions reward you with some gear and crafting materials to craft the stronger stuff. It doesn't take a long to obtain a decent set of gear. Once you're at that point, the grind begins to obtain the very best, and I do mean grind.

There is a resource called Division Tech that you need to craft powerful equipment which can only be obtained in the Dark Zone, mainly through chests that are scattered around. Each chest has an inexplicably long respawn timer meaning you could run around the Dark Zone for hours and not even find an unopened one. Furthermore, Division Tech comes in 3 flavors, green, blue, and yellow, and only the yellow ones are worthwhile. So not only do you have to be lucky enough to find a chest, you'll have to pray to Lord GabeN that you get a yellow. There's no refinement system currently in the game to refine green to blue or blue to yellow. Weird.

Now the Dark Zone is the PvPvE area that the devs have implemented, touting it as a new and exciting PvP experience. This is neither new nor exciting. It's essentially world PvP, a concept that has existed for decades. Also noteworthy is that world PvP frequently devolves into players griefing other players and The Division does not disappoint. It is also not exciting as should you choose to engage other players, you'll be highlighted to the entire world. Everyone will be able to see where you are. If they are nearby, they'll see you through walls and other obstacles. There's even a distance tracker so they'll always know the exact distance between you two up to 150 meters. It doesn't make for exciting PvP play, nor is there any structured PvP in the game. The Dark Zone is it, and as the game progresses further and the more veteran players obtain better gear, the lack of content outside the Dark Zone will relegate these players to the Dark Zone to slaughter newer and/or undergeared players to seek their enjoyment. This will not help the longevity of the game.

Again, balance is an issue. Certain weapons are rendered obsolete. For example, even though there's a plethora of sniper rifles to choose from, you should only be using one: the M1A. It fires as fast as you can click and the damage rivals that of its slower, bolt action, and supposedly powerful cousins. You'd be mad to use something else. There's also a skill called Survivor Link which makes you and your party immune to all crowd control, near immune to all damage, and gives you a speed boost. The only counter to Survivor Link is Survivor Link (or to run and hide) and when the only counter to a skill is that very skill, it's indicative of a major balance problem.

There are bugs galore, some minor and some gamebreaking. A lot of the time your stats page will not display your correct stats. Sometimes NPC dialogue will become inaudible. Infinite loading screens will completely prevent you from playing the game. There's also a lot of cheaters, who apparently aren't even banned permanently. If you are caught cheating, you receive a 3 day ban.

All in all, The Division suffers from Star Wars: Battlefront syndrome. The developers have created a beautiful world void of any meaningful content. The stuff they are planning will be locked behind multiple paid DLC. It's truly a sad case for a game that absolutely has so much potential.

however, for me it just doesn't all come together to make a great game.
the graphics, whilst pretty, just aren't very exciting. both characters and environments are constrained by 'realism' - ie, greyness. which just isn't very interesting. yes there's a variety of different cosmetic items you can wear! but... what's the point? you don't notice them on other players, so why would they notice them on you?

the weapons all end up feeling the same, with the exception of sniper rifles and shotguns. there is generally little to choose between smgs, assault rifles and lmgs apart from the their dps stat. which is the only real difference between the gun i started with and the gun i'm using now. obviously, because its 'realistic' all the guns look basically the same too.

the story, so far at least, feels very lacklustre - mostly because it seems you start already knowing all about the outbreak! there's no mystery - you know that some mad scientist type put the plague together and infused it in dollar bills that he then spent on Black Friday. There's no real urgency to finding a cure/vaccine, since it seems very straightforward to not catch it anyway.

the gameplay is very repetitive. every mission is just 'go here kill some people'. though there are elements of hacking and investigation they don't entail you actually doing it - they entail you standing in the correct spot and pressing F. this wouldn't be such a problem if the environments and enemies were more varied (a la destiny), but they're just not.
the bullet sponge enemies are also not fun, and fit in with the overall feel of the game. with so much of the game seeming to attempt realism, why have boss enemies that take hundreds of shots to the head to kill? i can forgive this in Destiny, due to the futuristic/alien aesthetic, but in The Division it just feels silly and out of place.

the bugs - well it wouldn't be a modern AAA title without bugs, would it. whether its that you can't start the game properly (sound plays, but no video) or you fall through the floor, you'll be sure to encounter something.

if you like destiny... stick to destiny. i was hoping this would be a suitable PC replacement for destiny, but its just not.

Very Repetitive. The gunplay itself is fun, but the cover system is janky, and cumbersome.. If you have played Watch Dogs, or Ghost Recon you have already tried out the gunplay/cover mechanic.. If you have played Watch Dogs, or Ghost Recon you have already tried out the gunplay/cover mechanic.. If like me, you have zero interest in pvp, and you absolutely despised the Dark Zone, and further lack of content, than this game isnt for you (us).. Theres occasional npc's to fight in DZ, always with numerous fellow agents around..

The AI is so dumb, that they will literally walk at you, stand out in the open, and pop out of cover like clock work.. To cover for this, enemies were made bullet sponges.. A dozen rounds to the head, is an easy kill.. Theres also very little variation in enemy archetypes.. Even when donning a different asthetic, they act exactly the same as others.. It makes for very bland gameplay, when the main function is too easy..

While beautiful (though severely downgraded from what was shown, also becoming the norm with AAA companies) walking the city, its barren! You will encounter occasional npcs fighting over a scrap, or ask you for water, or running in fear for their life of you for seemingly no reason.. Its like walking through "The Last of Us", only this is a shooter, and we want to shoot ****

The weapons and armor itself servers its purpose, but is very unappealing.. "Upgrades" are only so, in incremental amounts.. 2% less recoils, etc.. Since the game pretends to ground itself in realism (except when in need of excuse) that the guns, and armor arent very "oh cool, new weapon"! It will shoot exactly like the last one you had, probably look almost identical, etc.. Kneepads wont make muh difference, but you may get a puffy coat to change the look vs a hoodie?!

So-called "rpg".. this is where had issue.. Because there are 8 faces to choose from in the character creator, and theres a talent tree, it apparently classifies itself as rpg..Well.. Not in my book! Theres got to be a compelling narrative, characters, progression, customization, etc.. Theres very little of it here, with a grand total of 26 main story missions.. All replayable, but the side missions are not.. Wheres the longevity here? While playing, its hard to shake the feeling that very large chunks of the game are being with held, to be sold separately, at a later date.. Its painfully dull, and boring to play.. You are allowed 2 active abilities at any given time, which you can also augment, and switch in and out at will.. But the majority of them are, like the rest of the game, uninspired, and dull.. Deploy a Turret, is kinda neat, but another grenade? Group Heal, Riot Shield? Its like there was a QA, and the favored pcs of other games were thrown into a hodgepodge of what works over there, and show horned into a tactical shooter, so it could be labelled a rpg! If this is rpg, its shallow, at best! Theres also little to no meaningful plot decisions, character interaction (That isnt cinematic), theres no real player choice here.. As far as story, its very on rails.. I fail to see where this whole "rpg" element comes from?! I can choose 1 of 8 faces, and theres a skill tree.. Ok.. So not only will 1 in 8 people LOOK the same, everyone will also have exactly the same skills as well? Ok, so just everyone pick 2 different abilities each before this mission.. Fun! Not that youll 'need' them, since its rather straight forward combat.. Some people claim enemies attempt to flank.. What i see is more that they just move toward your general direction.. On a wide street, they may happen to flank.. Mostly though, they stick out stupidly in the open, for no real reason!

Its no wonder they wouldnt allow pre release reviews.. And i havent even gotten to all the bugs, terrible server issues, lag, texture pop ins and tearing, etc.. Even on consoles this is being reported..

Which leads me to my next point.. Uplay, is widely known to be bottom barrel software.. Having this game be online only, with this system is terrible.. There is no offline mode, for you to enjoy solo, if your internet fails, you havent paid your bills or, more likely, Uplay goes down.. Why? Hackers? The game is already riddled with them!!! Another wonderful aspect of Dark zone.. And, theres no anti cheat system to boot.. Just "file a report, take a screen shot of the offense".. WTF?!?

It was over hyped, deliberately with held until release day, bare bones, dull half implemented features.. Yet another Ubisoft let down.. I used to be the biggest AC fan i knew, and even that i can no longer support.. If i had actually paid cash for this game, i would have refunded it it! Thank goodness i went with my gut here, and kept my promise to myself never to purchase another Ubisoft product.. Or EA, Activision, Bethesda for that matter..

I too want an to scratch that itch i have, for the TPS genre, but this aint it.. Guess its back o another round of Mass Effect.. I no longer support Bioware, but i already own that trilogy atleast..

Very beautiful but at the same time boring and repetitive game with flawed pvp system that is easily exploited by many. It's not an "RPG" game by any means and don't get fooled by that. You walk, shoot, reload, restock, repeat. Main missions are rather interesting but I can't say the same about side missions and encounters which are exactly the same in every single district. You saw one - you saw it all. Many design mistakes in the mechanics prevent from really enjoying your progress (ie. unable to use good DZ gear unless you are DZ level 30 even despite you are let's say still at normal level 15 or 20 or anything else). I hope endgame is not that dull as getting there.
From technical point of view - I can;t say a single bad word - works with no flaws, no hangs or sudden fps drops, I once got stuck in a box and the game detected it and fixed my position right away.

Скучно, геймплей однообразный. Все миссии сводятся к тупой вычестке врагов и поиске лучшего шмота. Все боссы одинаковые, тупо больше ХП и все.

A story thinner than the moons atmosphere, forgettable characters, almost no mission variety and not a single good boss are making this game inspite the good ideas involved mediocre at best. The Darkzone is broken and the rest is just a endless grind on steroids.

Very Repetitive, I tried to like this game but when you need a thousand bullets to kill something gets trying very fast, As for the DZ Isn't that a fun place to go has to be the most frustrating experience ever and I don't go their now.
As for the server maintenance down 1-2 times a week for 3 hours sorry I'm over it and have moved on to a new game, I doubt I will be buying wildlands

It took The Division a lot of time to reach our computers and consoles, but it was worth waiting for. We have already spent about 200 hours with it collectively and we’re not planning on abandoning it, because it is, simply put, outstanding and shows amazing potential for the future. [05/2016, p.30]

An immensely thrilling action-MMO hybrid, but good for 30 hours rather than the hoped-for 300. [May 2016, p.70]
