Really fun game to play with your friends and coordinate as a team. Some server stability issues at launch but that is understandable. I feel like some of the negative reviews are just because they expected an entirely different game or set their expectations through the roof. For what the game is, an online shooter with rpg elements and progression, it's great and alot of fun.

Move beyond any server issues and the real game is underneath. Its a game, and a good one at that! I think reviewers who have given it an overwhemingly negative review seem to have had a bad idea about the game even when they purchased it? Seriously if you read some of them, its as if they have a personal vendetta against Ubisoft... if you don't like something, you need to be critical but also objective. You can read how they feel they have been cheated or the information they provide is factually in-accurate. Microtransactions are in the game, they are for visual upgrades only. DLC is paid for but if you have the season pass, it gives you a percentage saving in the long run.

The game play is a mix of Gears Of War cover shooting with Ghost Recon style "run here, get into cover there" mechanics. The graphics are amazing, they went back to tweek some of the lighting and some other atmospheric details with the day 1 patch, very well done on keeping the game away from an early release and it shows the delays were worth it!

You are a Division Agent, called upon when the world has collapsed into anarchy. JTF are the games version of NATO and are the martial law. The missions (26 Main) are well put together and have a mix bag of objectives which resolve around a mutated small pox virus being unleashed on Black Friday - very clever and ties in perfectly to the whole current social understanding of the event. Mad rush shoppers spreading the virus as they spend cash and expediting the end times! The game does throw alot of info at you - one review from time.com explains that the game world is always shouting something at you or throwing up some graphic or detail all at the sametime which can be a little disorientating. The side missions are also very engaging and are light relief to the games main missions. Replay on this game is good, want to tackle the encounter from another angle or go vertical - go for it!

Overall, when considering the release window for this game was very quiet and Destiny being in a shallow pit at the moment, this is the meat on the bones players have been looking for. If your looking for some really good social gaming, this has it. Joined Discord and have met some good people who are all in it for the same reason I am - immersion and a sense of relief from the mundane real lives we live. Who wouldn't want to be part of a group who are called on to save the world!

good game, not really buggy as people , half way through , stable game. Server crashes did happen, and it can be expected any MMORPG on day 1.

Certainly not the best, but a good game IMHO

Great game and I am loving it so far. Playing with friends certainly adds to the level of enjoyment, though I don't mind soloing from time to time. I've had 0 issues playing the game or getting anything running. Yes their was a single hour of downtime at launch.. boo hoo get over it, it was only an hour and then servers were back up. Looking forward to the future.

The Division is a good of example of a game that got much better with time. After all the patches (latest one is 1.8) this game is finally becoming what it should be from the beginning. I really enjoy it lately i would recommend it to every fan of FPS/RPG type of gameplay. It really worth it. I think Ubi deserves a pat in a back for fixing this game. Good job guys. See, you CAN do it if you try :)

Despite my opinion about ubi I honestly think that The Division is a very enjoyable game with fun mechanics, beautiful graphics (despite the downgrade) set in an amazing open world with phenomenal atmosphere (I have to admit that I love post-apo). I played 11 hours so far earning 10th level (and also 10th dark zone rank). I did both solo and group and had a blast! I loved the rpg mechanics, the gun feel, sounds, destroyable surroundings (try shoting bricks, windows, display elements, wood, etc.) Met few nice gamers today and we rocked the dark zone killing rouge agents, mobs, extracting loot, doing few campaign missons.

All in all the game is very good. It's not perfect (the story is ok but nothing more) and definitely is much more fun with a group of friends (although it's very easy to meet people in the game) but it's a solid 8.5/10. See you in dz.

9/10 and the reason for the subtraction is due to the repetitive PVE content in the game. Although it's not as bad as Destiny's PVE on launch, it's very close. If I have to setup another damn antenna on a roof I'm going to punch a baby.

Great game overall! I've already put 60+ hours into the beta and about 8 hours into the full game.

Game-play is super fun and the world is beautiful. Coop is some of the best I've played in a recent game. It does however sometimes get a little repetitive however during a long solo play session, but finding a good piece of gear brings you right out of it.

The Division was one of those games I was stupidly excited for because it looked graphically beautiful and the gameplay didn't really matter to me. Initially I was annoyed to learn it would be an MMORPG but having played Destiny - I am okay with that.

Gameplay wise it is okay I guess, there is quite a bit of repetition to it, go from A to B and kill C or go from A to B to C to D and find person E. It's variety comes from the landscape that these missions take place in, different parts of NYC. There are some elements which are very undersold or not well explained - like the crafting mechanics, I just don't get it - they're so basic but not explained to you in any shape or form.

The characters in the game are quite good, they're actually well acted well thought out and some of them are likeable. I particularly like the vendors who randomly yell things at you like as you are walking to another part of the map they yell - "You won't buy quality things over there!". Missions are good, but just like the side activities - feel repetitive and the excitement comes from the locations you're playing them out in.

The PVP dark zone is great, you can be a complete pain in the behind and murder everyone or go in there and find some great equipment and leave. Depending on what you want out of it, it can be interesting.

Finally Graphics - yes it has been lightly downgraded from the initial E3 demo we were showed, you aren't getting dynamic textures which change with weather and snow any more and the fidelity of the cars seems less. But by and large this is the most beautiful game open world game I have ever played. The atmosphere of NYC is brilliant and it really feels like a damaged city. Sounds / Atmospheric effects and music are all excellent.

However don't think you will run this at 60fps on 1080p/Ultra settings on anything less than a 980ti. I have not experienced any bugs or glitches, but it is a beast to run.

Overall it is a good game, but there is a caveat that it isn't as great as you are probably going to think it will be and the repetitive nature of the game will likely grate on you.

Marred by repetition and some bad voice acting that shouldn't have made the cut in a AAA product, but if you don't mind the combat being as much RPG as shooter (a headshot is not a lethal takedown, not even close), The Division has a lot to offer.

I must admit, this being Ubisoft's game I didn't even kid myself about the quality, but hey - here we are with a quality product. My friend took the risk and bought the game on day 1, but after some time playing he recommended I get it too and I'm having a blast so far. The graphics are great, the gameplay flow is very Destiny-esque or Borderland-y (in terms of weapons).

Is it 100% the best game out there? I doubt it. Is it worth it to pick up with some friends as a casual game? Hell yes.

For those that say there is no story (yes I mean you Angry Centaur Gaming) then you have not bothered to play the entire game and also pick up the very meaningful collectibles.

With that said, this game did what Destiny SHOULD have done. The gun play is tight and requires tactics - run and gun style will get you killed. The story, while cliche, is well told and the voice acting is, for the most part, well done with a few exceptional moments and a few eh moments.

The sound is fantastic. The soundtrack, when it plays, is great and is used very well to highlight moments of intensity - otherwise you are left to the ambient sounds of a stripped city. Stripped until you start putting a dent into the hell hole that NYC has become. As you complete the missions, side missions, etc. the world starts to come to life - people go back to the streets and it feels different. Your base of operations becomes a buzzing hub of NPC activity. This is open world catastrophe done right.

The Snow Drop engine is amazing and the graphics on the PC are superb. They are even really incredible on console, after all, what game besides Halo 5, Bloodborne or the dreaded The Order even come close graphically on console?

The launch was actually very smooth despite the issue of handling loads at midnight EST. That got quickly ironed out and connectivity has been solid since. Console did not have as much of an issue whereas PC did - but it was quickly addressed and you were in and running within about 30 minutes.

If you like the original Rainbow Six games or Splinter Cell, you will enjoy this game for the gun play that punishes you for not using tactics and cover. If you prefer to run and gun (COD style) this game will not be pleasant.

For me, this was money well spent.

The reason people do not like this game, was that they had the thought it would be a Survival game first, then FPS game second, and lastly a RPG.

I promise you, if they had thought this game with along the lines of Firefall, Destiny, or any 3rd person shooter RPG, they would be saying this is a fine game. Even in comparison to WoW, GW/GW2, Warhammer Online, TOR, AION, ESO, SRO, LotrO, Rift, FF, STO, CoH, or any of the other hundreds of MMOs I played, this is a good MMO.

Having addressed that, there are actually Cons:

    - This game sometimes has clunky controls. But I would say, 80% of the time, the game is relatively smooth.

    - Can't really play with your friends, and I'll explain why. The pairing system works as an average, for the most part, if you're level 18 and playing with a level 10 friend, the AI will be level ~15. This makes your friend useless, and you having to carry the entire game if you decide to pair up with them. Once you hit 30, no matter what, the enemy will be 25 (until you hit the 28-30 zones). So if you played a lot, and got to 30, and your friends just picked up the game and are level 5-10, well better re-roll a character.

    - A huge thing is that there are 3 different credit systems and 2 different crafting systems.
    1) Normal credits you get from finishing quests/dungeons, and killing enemies in the normal zone. There are a few items worth buying, but most of it is garbage end game. And you'll have huge stock piles of credits with nothing to buy except for vanity items.
    2) Dark Zone Credits, exclusively from the DZ, right now any AI in the DZ can drop it, making it relatively fast to gather up a stockpile. (This is probably because in the Beta, it took a long time to get DZ Credits). The problem is that buying the intro gear requires the player to be level 30 DZ (as opposed to your normal level). I've noticed by the time I hit level 30 DZ, the DZ intro gear was useless to me for the most part, rendering the DZ Credits mainly useless.
    3) Phoenix Credits, only named yellow mobs can drop it (usually drop 2 Phoenix credits). You can also receive them from doing the daily missions (3) for 30 credits for when you complete the daily. Or playing the missions on challenging, which gives out 30 on completion of the challenging mode. I believe it maxes out at 80 or so a day. These are used for High-End gear/end game gear.
1A) Normal crafting is made by the crafting materials you find in the non-DZ areas. You can unlock recipes from completing missions or buying them for credits or phoenix credits for the High-End gear. You can also combine lower level materials to become higher level materials (Like Diablo), the only difference is that there is no "Craft All" button, making it tedious to craft things.
    - As a side note, all crafting is pretty much random (Diablo), so you can get horrible base damage and great mods/perks on the gear. Or get great damage and bad mods/perks. Or a mixture of both, it really is luck. Meaning you might want to craft the same thing a few times if you haven't got the best possible stats or at least decent stats.
    2) Dark Zone crafting is very tedious. First you have to collect the material called "Division Tech", after that, you have to change the Division Tech into "Dark Zone Materials" (Fabrics, Weapon Parts, Electronics) and then you can craft your materials. But it's mainly useless because of Phoenix Creds.

    - PVP, right now, is not worth it. It takes a long time to actually level up in the Dark Zone (the only PVP area), and when you die (could be AI or player) you lose a lot of XP. And the reward of surviving the timer of going "rogue" (killing an enemy player) is not worth it at all. Most of the gear people are collecting is for the materials themselves and not the actual gear. Because it is VERY EASY to gear up. Most people accidentally go rogue, because the damage threshold to other players is very low. 2 pistol shots, or 1 shot from any primary weapon will make you go rogue. (Again in the Beta, people taunted others by shooting them once to see if the other player would open up on them. Making the taunted player go rogue)

    Pros:

    - Vivid story, through the side missions and main missions, it is very entertaining. And the collectibles only enhance the story. The Division does a good job making the smallest things fun. Takes about 28 hours to complete the main story and side missions.

    - Fast leveling, it took me 25 hours to reach max level 30.

    - Gearing is relatively fast for an RPG. You can get Superior gear in ~2 hours of playing. And afterwards, a piece of High End gear/End game gear in another 2 hours. 1-2 pieces of High End gear makes the normal/hard moments easy, and challenging moments doable (but still very hard). By the time the DLC comes out, hardcore and core gamers should have a decent amount of high-end stuff.

    - REVIEW -

    The Division is a third-person cover-based modern-day Borderlands-esque MMORPG-lite.

It is not a third-person cover shooter that happens to have a solid RPG component. It is an RPG that happens to have solid third-person cover shooter mechanics.

If you don't like the idea of having to shoot a boss enemy multiple times in the head, then this is not your game. If you don't like the idea of having to grind levels and loot to beat that "bullet sponge" enemy, then this is not your game (spoiler alert: it's an RPG, if you're encountering bullet sponges, then you're not strong enough, and it's your fault). If you don't usually like RPG-style games, this probably won't change your mind.

If, on the other hand, you want a fun third person RPG with solid cover-shooter mechanics, good customization options (aesthetic and functional), and an aesthetic that definitely evokes the feel of an apocalypse-ish New York City, circa-2013, then you might just like the game. Calling it repetitive is not unfair, but I find the gameplay thoroughly enjoyable (best cover system I've ever used), so for me it's about as "repetitive" as Borderlands.

If you played the beta, you pretty much saw what was available. If you liked it, you'll like having some more room to do stuff in the retail version, and a little more stuff to do. If you didn't like the beta, you won't like the retail version (so why did so many of you buy it).

Nevertheless u get presented a quite interesting plot, when u listen carefully to the logs/echos etc.
    DarkZone is exciting.

The graphics on PC are tremendous, just go deeper in the settings. Ultra alone doesnt do it ^^

Ok, I play this game since release, and after 10 hours all I said is this is the best Coop RPG/Shooter. Why? So many complaints. Well I guess I've been lucky. I have 12 hours played and I encountered one very minor error so far. No disconnects or anything, so it's been almost flawless.

As for the game, I really didn't expect it to be this good. It's super exciting. Great atmosphere. I have had no luck in the dark zone yet tho, being a lonewolf I have pretty much been killed by every group

The Division however has not only surpassed my dwindling expectations, but it has also restored a considerable amount of faith in Ubisoft as a whole as this is not only a very grand and stunning experience; but it also runs to an exceptional standard especially when compared to their and many other AAA games. Developers Massive Entertainment have simply outshone the publishers and their other internal in-house development teams.

The game is largely a solo/co-op cover-based shooter in 3rd person with RPG elements. It takes place in a scaled-down but still sizable New York City in several areas and is a grand and atmospheric experience with lots to explore and places to discover. You grind by completing main missions, side missions and other occurrences that pop up to earn XP and there is always plenty of things to do. The loot aspect is also engaging as you try to obtain the best weapons and equipment which can benefit you in battle against the AI or fellow players in the Dark Zone. Each mission has a recommended level to participate in so the game forces you to experience many fringe missions to rank up which enables the player to get the most out of the game instead of trying to rush to the finish. It is incredibly well-balanced.

Visually; the game looks stunning - I am running this on an ageing GTX770 on high settings and not only does it still look amazingly detailed; I was happily running this at a consistent framerate just shy of 60fps throughout. I experienced no lag, stutters or drops which is an absolute testament to the developers in their optimization execution. You don't see this very often especially with Ubisoft and the typcial AAA market these days. The game may not look as remarkable as once seen back in 2013 but it isn't far off and the level of detail and dynamic effects are staggering at times.

The mechanics in respect to the controls have been implemented superbly too - the cover system works fluently and the movement is absolutely slick. Shooting is also solid and the guns are all varied based on their type and stats. Many developers over the years have expressed their difficulties in developing engines with 3rd person physics - it plagued Rockstar games for years and other teams have struggled to provide the user with clean and fluid controls but Ubisoft Massive have succeeded here on a huge scale.

Surprisingly, there isn't too many negatives although some players who are rolling solo may find the game a tad repetitive in time. The AI is also iffy at best and whilst they do provide some fierce battles; their behaviour is somewhat questionable. This game is also required to run online at all times although in the period I have been playing; I have only experienced one disconnect - the stability of the Ubisoft servers which have been called into question countless times in the past is actually not an issue which is a surprise despite a day one two hour downtime. The one personal disappointment for me is that the user interface and HUD is quite cluttered and ugly but the latter can be customized in the menu and the menu interface needs a bit of adjusting too from a personal standpoint. Unfortunately; it's not quite as clean and stylish as originally seen back when the game was first announced but on the whole; it's just a minor niggle.

Overall; The Division has exceeded my expectations on a significant scale that I did no expect. Despite all the murmurings and frustrations post-Watch Dogs in the last couple of years; Ubisoft have finally delivered a solid and sensational experience that is not only polished on an incredible scale; it's almost a generation-defining game. The absence of serious problems and the consistency in which the game runs is also another major boost that rights the wrongs of Ubisoft's bleak recent history. Another remarkable achievement is that this game has zero loading screens in-game which allows you to explore New York above and below ground into missions and other locations without any interruptions whatsoever - this is almost unthinkable in respects to the scale of it. The game is best played with friends but even as a solo player; the amount of content here is sublime and if you're a fan of RPG's and shooters; this is an absolute must buy. Whether you detest Ubisoft or AAA games these days; you have to appreciate the effort and execution of this highly ambitious title as it really puts other games to shame. Whether this is a one-off or if Ubisoft have finally turned a corner remains to be seen but this game has potential to be enjoyed for months and years to come.

If you like Destiny, then you'll LOVE The Division! The Division improved upon all the elements Destiny failed upon. The driving force behind what makes The Division such a great game is it's narrative and grounded tone.

It took The Division a lot of time to reach our computers and consoles, but it was worth waiting for. We have already spent about 200 hours with it collectively and we’re not planning on abandoning it, because it is, simply put, outstanding and shows amazing potential for the future. [05/2016, p.30]

An immensely thrilling action-MMO hybrid, but good for 30 hours rather than the hoped-for 300. [May 2016, p.70]
