I expected a lot from The Division 2 and the game delivers.

+ Awesome gunplay. Shooting, movement and skills are snappy and fluid. + Better enemy AI than TD1, more interesting fights, less bullet-sponginess. + The game is more challenging. You can die easily when you don't take care and it's great. Cover and positioning are very important. + Extremely varied and interesting mission

+ The game is more challenging. You can die easily when you don't take care and it's great. Cover and positioning are very important.
+ Extremely varied and interesting mission locations.
    + A metric **** ton of content.
    + Good loot and progression.
+ Very good graphics for the most part.
+ Great audio (gun sounds, music).
+ The story is a bit better than in TD1, but you still shouldn't expect too much. A lot of the immersion comes from interaction with the world rather than the story.

    - The item system is crap. It takes way too much time to sort items, especially mods. Skill mods are completely useless as items and could have been implemented in a dozen better ways.
    - Some of the UI needs work.
    - There's little incentive to free roam coop, because you only get XP for stuff you haven't done already.
    - Protagonist still can't talk. Hurts the immersion quite a bit.
    - Character creator could be improved: More hair and beard options. Sort colors properly. And don't use the term "body type" instead of "gender".
    - Frequent crashes with DirectX 12 renderer on some CPUs.

Verdict: I got exactly what I wanted - more of the same as TD1 with improvements in the right places.

The AI is amazing, best I've seen in any game of this genre. Fights require actual strategy, planning, and timing. If you rush into a fight, you'll end up dead. The game is beautiful, massive, and packed with things to do. I'm 50 hours into this and still haven't beaten the main story quests. I've been too busy doing all the little sidequests that seem to pop up everywhere.

THIS IS NOT DIVISION 1! Give it a chance, it'll surprise you.

Coming back to post a follow up review after playing the game for several weeks now. I originally gave the game a 9 but now that I have reached level 16 I am giving this game a solid 0. I originally gave the game a 9 but now that I have reached level 16 I am giving this game a solid 0. This game is unplayable as a solo player as the enemies become fairly spongy around level 14 and your player feels as though they become weaker as you progress instead of feeling more robust and fortified. Even with non stop upgrades and several epic items on my character I feel weaker now at 16 than I was at level 1. Division 2 is the first game I've played where the longer I've played the weaker my character feels.

Another big problem with the game is that even on story mode the enemy AI is set to full aggression mode all the time which pretty much ruins the good cover, parkour mechanics of the game because what's the point of taking cover only to have 2 of the 5 enemies rush you while your taking cover at the same time from different angles and two shot you with a melee weapon or blow themselves up on top of you killing you instantly. Also, the mob density for solo players is extremely punishing. I'll set myself up to grenade 2 or 3 of the 5 enemy mob, take them out only to have an "enemy reinforcement incoming" announcement chime in on every single encounter where I have to fight another 5 enemy characters and pray to god they don't spawn in on top of me or behind me which is all too common in this game which will instant wipe you.

Really disappointed with this game. I like playing solo and don't want to be forced to group with others and the game simply does not give you any choice but to group. If you go to forums you'll see a few players on there acting as if they are badasses telling everyone to "get gud" and "use the turret." It doesn't matter how "gud" you are, solo mode will punish you mightily again and again. Being forced to rely on a perk every single fight (turret) that pretty much does all the work for you and requires no skill feels like more of a cheat than a viable strategic maneuver. In Division 1 I felt as though I could handle almost all enemies at any given point with or without a perk but with the Division 2 even running into a simple mob on the street I'm not winning 9 times out of 10. At higher levels the enemies get better gear and start shocking, freezing and popping other perks on you that just doesn't make for fair gameplay. When a common enemy feels like a boss you know you've made your game too difficult. I understand there are players out there that enjoy high difficulty, multi wipe till you get it right, getting smashed in the face several times before progressing type of games and for those people I would say choose normal or difficult mode. I'm playing story mode and getting wrecked playing solo. Story mode is supposed to be just that, a mode for players who just want to progress through the story and not get raped over and over again by common enemy mobs and be forced to group up with other players just to get around.

I was skeptical at first, since the launch of the original was so terrible, i stuck with that game, i made many alts and with time it did get a lot better. But i'm happy to say that aside from a few bugs, Division 2 comes out of the gate with an interesting location, somewhat interesting characters and plot, with improved shooting mechanics, AI, and more common sense things like spongy enemies being covered in destructible armor pieces. As opposed to the spongy enemies with no visible added protection in the original game.

There is plenty to do, something the original also lacked out of the gate. Tons of side objectives, loads of loot! So much loot! Loot everywhere! It feels like the Pier update in Division 1. Or... you know, Diablo lol. The loot drops are THAT plentiful yes. It's great! Once again, a stark contrast to the original upon launch in that regard.

Graphically it's just as impressive as the original game. I always loved the lighting in Division, and i always personally felt like Massive got the atmosphere 100% perfect. In this game, i feel it suffers slightly by not having snow, simply because the snow looked so, sooooooo very good. Especially in Survival mode. Nothing like it in any game to date. I'm a softy for snow, and when you can see the wind carrying it in different directions, brushing over the tops of cars, mailboxes and buildings... it's just something an original Division fan is going to miss probably.

That having been said, this is a nice change of pace, and the weather effects in this game are nice. Just not as impressive as a blizzard in the middle of NYC as you're dying of syphilis, trying desperately to escape the cold. There was something special about that formula... i miss it. But it by no means makes Division 2 an inferior game. Everything else is enhanced 3 fold!

Whether you're playing solo or with friends there's something here for everybody. Even if you don't touch all the high tier endgame content there's still an enjoyable campaign to get through and a rewarding loot-progression system to accompany it. None of the time you spend playing this game feels wasted because you're constantly earning new items and loot. (unlike Destiny 2).

And whats more, all future content is going to be free. No need to buy expensive new DLCs that barely add any content (again looking at you Destiny 2).

Inventory became easier to manage, you dont have a thousand mods to manage and recraft, once you unlocked them you can put them everywhere you want.

cant talk about endgame content since i didnt see it yet obviously.

DZ still seems a bit lacking but i only went to the first zone for about an hour.

PvP is fun, only did some 4v4 for now, i hope there are some bigger maps with more people as this setup doenst allow much sniper play.

Skills are diverse while still being accessory.

But significantly in terms of the amount of content available right out of the box. There is an extraordinarily large amount things do you, stronghold, missions, pvp, dark zone, bounties, capture points, and other smaller world map tasks such as supply drop captures, broadcast captures, hostage rescue etc. And those actually get improved later on in end game when you reach world tier 4 where those individually have different difficulty rating that climb the more they're completed, offering better and better rewards.
The gun play is just as fun as the original, the loot system certainly feels satisfying and for an online game I've not had a single connection issue so far with the game. I also really enjoy the new specialisations where you can choose between survivor, marksman and demolition. Each one gives you a set of individual talents for that specialisation and you get a signature weapon. Demolition gets a grenade launcher. Survivor gets a crossbow with explosive bolts. Marksman gets a high powered sniper rifle. And you can swap between them by visiting the base of operations whenever you want.

Some of my minor complaints are probably down to smaller things, for example I don't like loot boxes (That's just a personal opinion and it can be a controversial topic).
The UI can be a little confusing when you first game into the game but you get used to it fairly quickly, but it still has a few minor annoyances, like I wish I had the option to make selectable areas on the map have their large icons at all times so it was easier to find specific locations I want to set a waypoint on.
I've had a few bugs for example there was a gun where several skills would just disappear instantly and you would get a cooldown timer on the ability (However this has now been fixed). But I also noticed other bugs such as sometimes when I try and swap to my signature weapon it simply instantly switches back to the weapon I had equipped already. And by far the most annoying bug seems to be specifically centered around the District Union Arena stronghold as I haven't spotted it anywhere else but twice in this exact place. Sometimes one of the enemies seems to not leave a spawn room and then the door closes with them inside making it annoying to kill them and maybe impossible on some occasions as you can't reopen the door but you can't progress through the stronghold until you kill all enemies in the area. I've been lucky and been able to glitch fire through the wall several times to kill them but I imagine it's going to be impossible in some situations, and it means you have to restart the entire stronghold if you can't kill that one enemy.

Overall however, I've been having an absolute blast with this game, enjoying it far more than I did the previous game, and right out of the box as well without having to wait for content updates.

Also Optimization sucks, especially for such visual quality, on PC it looks worse than ARK:SE on Consoles, but requires more resources to run properly than ARK:SE on Highest settings...
Shadow and Light work is very bad for 2019 game, even BDO from 2014 looks better in graphics and especially in Shadow-works.
    Reflections also suck.
particles are annoying and some battles are very eye-heavy and annoying (yes, I understand that it's subjective, and that there are people who like it, but for me it's a huge -).
Also sound is quite bleh, some weapon sound like a nailgun, but not like a weapon, also they feel like that too.
Gameplay is also bleh, not fun for me, not bad, not good, very common for modern games.
And Macrotransactions make it one more Fee to Play game, even F2P games do not do such things anymore...
It's just a very common game. 5/10 -1 for bad optimization and uninspired graphics.

I don't think the story is particularly solid, there's not much narrative in it unlike the first game. We seem to ave done a swap, game mechanics for story. I have also found occasionally my agent has to run so far to get places, the safe houses are not ideally positioned in some cases.

Of special note is the strategy. You must use cover - there's no tanking here. You need to play smart. You need to be constantly aware of your enemy's positions, enemy strengths & weakness, when to advance and when to retreat, and your own health and armor. As you face higher level enemies, they have better and better AI. Expect to die a lot in the first 8 to 10 hours of game play as you learn the cover system, how to move from cover to cover, and how to deal with the enemy strategies.

    Highly recommended!

Played the beta heavily, and I've heard it has only improved after release.

The game is a mellow 3rd-person shooter with a hint of the apocalypse and a taste of open world freedom. That sounds awful, honestly, but it's a subtle stew that I enjoy a lot. You won't max out in the first week of play. You won't be able to be the best and have the best and slay the best after a Dew-fueled,

You won't max out in the first week of play. You won't be able to be the best and have the best and slay the best after a Dew-fueled, 72-hour grind-a-thon. You will have to commit to this game, learn its mechanics, and slowly edge your skills, equipment, and perks along that pathway to greatness. Take this as a true apocalypse simulator, if you must. It's not always exciting, but it certainly can be, and those moments feel all the more powerful because of it. Those same moments aren't rare, either. If you want to press through the story, or non-stop plow through enemies, go for it. I took things slow, however, and meticulously felt out each opponent before attempting each surgical assault. It's got the makin's of greatness.

This is paired up with cover-based combat that is frequently challenging but offers several rewarding ways to engage with enemies.

Currently, the game seems a little more challenging. The AI is definitely improved, and actively attempts to flank more frequently than DIvision 1's AI.

Inventory management is improved, though attachments are potentially one of the only side-grades from Division 1 - each attachment has a positive AND negative effect (almost in equal measure, sometimes). Early on, I've found this sometimes negates bonus to little overall gain.

When playing with my friend during early access, he made the comment, "This is sort of like the games we used to be excited for." I can't agree more. There's content here. It feels like it's a worthwhile product, right out of the "box."

If you didn't like Division 1, you won't like Division 2. But it does sound like Massive really listened to the fanbase and made meaningful improvements on their already-existing system. Because the project is attached to Ubisoft, however, expect plenty of illegitimate/fake bomb reviews.

I definitely recommend this game for people who either liked the later iterations of Division 1 patches, or for those who are looking for a fleshed-out looter shooter!

You feel the impact you make on the world by interacting with it, and the world continues to change when the game is over, there is nothing static about the division 2.

Couple that design change, with massive committing a ton of resources to address the faults the first game had. and you have a game that you wish you had when the first one came out, but are more than happy to sink your teeth into now.

    negatives
-Glitchy rooms that will not load.
-random spawning/roaming enemies that can quite often cheat you out of completing a world event, this is worst when you spend 20-30 minutes leveling a control point for blueprint reward when you take it. then it forces you to chase an enemy down that wont go where it is supposed to due to a random roaming patrol ending with the event complete but no reward for you due to being out of the event border.
-lacking any sort of real change to enemy AI rushing or giving AI allies you can play with for those who may wish to play solo.
-having to specifically set up gear for skill powers if you want to put ANY mod on a gadget unless you got lucky and found then saved a low level one to equip late when max lvl.

A big improvement over the original, with a more vibrant world that feels more organic and alive than NY (not sure why people are hating on this game being more colorful, go figure).

The story is crap but honestly who plays a looter shooter (or any dungeon crawler) for the story? The gameplay is intense and challenging enough to stay fresh even when the missions all follow a fairly generic "Go to X and kill Y" formula. The enemies are much less spongey than in the D1, and the beefy boys all have weak spots or strategies that you can use to take them down without having to unload several hundred rounds into them. The AI has definitely upped their game, and if you don't pay attention to baddies trying to flank you will die every time. Gun play is hugely improved and it actually feels like there is a variety of weapons instead of just the same gun with a bunch of different skins.

Lots of progression, great multiplayer in the dark zone, and the matchmaking system adds a smooth and convenient way to find people to play with if you are a big loser with no friends. On that note, I think solo is honestly easier than with friends unless you all are the same level, because the scaling system does not compensate as much as the increase in enemies when you are in a group. Missions are memorable and with cool set pieces instead of just the same series of corridors and open spaces to fight in. Just feels like there is a lot going on. I got tired of the first game fairly quickly but after reaching 30 last night in D2 I can't wait to keep going.

My only real complaint is the UI, which is admittedly terrible. So much crap on the screen at once, tough to navigate, and a lot of rewards and progression screens are buried behind this clunky and cluttered system, etc. Hopefully they can work on improving it because it really is a mess. But beyond that the Division 2 is a winner IMO, and better than the other offerings (destiny, anthem, borderlands) in the genre.

No sobresale en nada a otros juegos del mercado, además posee una IA mediocre y movimientos torpes del personaje al que controlamos haciendo el juego bastante frustrante en ciertos momentos.

Besides that, every mission looks the same, go to point B, kill everyone, then kill the boss, then call reinforcements and hold it for X time. Rinse and repeat. Even Wildlands had a better way to make the game more interesting and the map was HUGE.

Can't Jump... Like... really? I'ts that hard to program or model jumping animations? Hey look, if i can jump from here i don't have to walk outside the base. Hurray for invisible walls, why even bother modeling a world that can't really be explored. Take an example from Dying Light, big map and can move around how you want freely.

Now, some actual review comments. Yes, it seems a bit like Division 1.5, but that isn't a bad thing. While it took a while, Division 1 made itself into a very solid game with a large amount of content. Division 2 has taken that progress and leaped a bit further ahead. The mechanics are more refined, time to kill is improved, and the murder for loot dynamic is completely intact. The DC recreation is superb, just as New York was in the first game.

Are there are few misses? Sure. The weapon mod screen sucks. Don't know how they screwed that one up, since Div 1's was fine. The menus are chunky, at best, and need to be improved. But they do work. Overall, the game is very playable and requires more tactical consideration than the first game. If you want to run around like Rambo and shoot everything in the face, this isn't the game for you. If you want to be required to think through a fight, watch your flanks, displace to avoid grenade spam, establish crossfire positions and utilize group dynamics and teamwork, then you need look no further.

My suggestion, this is a game to buy on sale, don't pay full price. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The division 2 is like four games rolled into one. First is the main story from level 1-30. This part is engaging enough to keep you involved and is a nice continuation of the division 1. The world is very believable and overwhelmingly detailed. If you play this game as a solo action game, you will have lots of fun. I played this part twice and think it is one of the best shooters out there. The second part is basically from the start of the black Tusk invasion until you reach item level 500. This is still entertaining, even if the story makes no sense at all and is obviously the result of having spent so much of the budget on the world that it had to be reused. So you cover mostly the same area with bigger enemies and bigger usually just means more armor and hp, not more challenging in their strategies. The third part begins when you hit item level 500 and start to optimize your gear. This part is based on the believe that randomness of drops is the key to keeping the players playing. I found that part very boring. The itemization has always been overly complex but because of the fast progression their was no need to care, now it becomes a pain. Players are basically set on a rotation and may hope to get in hundreds of drops one which is usable. You spent a silly amount of time in emptying your inventory and checking gear. So most players use groups to go through the necessary steps faster. But because the AI isn't really scaling and the game is only throwing more and harder mobs at you, the encounters become just mindless slaughter feasts. In my opinion this part is rather broken.
I have never played an MMO which was less social: Most people don't even bother to read their chat, maybe because the chat server is down quite often.
Ah, yes, the 4th game: pvp. Just not my cup of tea, so I tried it out, but not enough to have a solid opinion on it.
All this sounds more critical than it should: Especially the first part is awesome. Some of the fire fights are the best I ever had with npcs and the immersion works incredibly well. Because the world is packed so dense with items to discover and nps and events, you really have the feeling of a city under siege, even if obviously it gets repetitive after a while and the crowdedness can have strange side effects, for example spawning a new group of mobs in your back during a fire fight or informing you that there is a friendly control point nearby every time you left one.
Episode 2 is not changing a lot. The story gets some additions, but the writing is even less impressive. The new areas are great and quite challenging on the other hand. So challenging that coop becomes the standard way to do this.

Best looter shooter in years. Currently the best too.

Between this and AC Odyssey Ubisoft are becoming my favourite publishers.

Still the same issues as the last game. Plus they managed to make the AI even worse. My biggest issue with the AI is how they talked up that it was going to be so good, and then it ended up being the worst I've ever seen in a game. The AI is smart though... they know that they can't die from a single player shooting them so they run in guns blazing and murder you super easy. Basically theStill the same issues as the last game. I'd honestly rather have the AI from the first game back. Expand

This game is literally a copy and paste of the first game with changed environments. The graphics are okay but nothing special .The physics are beyond horrible and unrealistic at the end it is just an arcade shooter made for kids...The missions are boring and repetitive and YES bullet sponge enemies are still here just like in the first game.. Well, I've played 2 beta versions - close and open one. First impressions of the release. Characters - they are ugly as hell with weak customization. After 2 minutes of gameplay, what do you know, maintenance on servers. Another Ubi game with server and design issues. Ubi became a conveyor of poor games, games on 5 out of 10.

Did not enjoy the HYPE about weapons. Did not enjoy a game that looks so realistic, and behaves so unrealistic. The should be death, injury and suffering all around in this game, and yet, enemies die without a sound. There is no blood and no gore. This game skewers the perception of war and violence. It is saturday now. I got "sсheduled server maintance" error while trying to play. Are you nuts, to schedule game server maintenance on saturday, ubisoft? Also I've lost all progress I've made in trial version.

Also, since I do not play quests and puzzles, the game receives -2 for "Recover DC-62 research" quest.
Also ubisofr level designers made a very fine labyrinth at mission "medical camp attack". Dangeon crawl lovers would probably appreciate it. Another -1 from me.
Another -1 because I was not able to find required components there - ubisoft lost my precious time on some stupid secret searching once more.
I should add -1 for your stupid shd tech boxes on high ground (your stupid engine do not support climbing, and I do not want to wonder where your stupid level designers thought I should go when I can not jump on half of boxes and can not climb on a crane.
-1 for closed gates in outcast propaganda outpost. Make adventure out of shhoteg, get negative review, it is easy.I do not know where your stupid forum is, your engine is not steam, so I'll write just here.

Basically, if you have friends that you can play with, this game is a no-questions-asked big 10. But for a solo player, beware that you'll either learn enough about the quirky AI to enjoy the challenge or quit in frustration. The in-game matchmaking almost never gives you someone to play with so have that in mind.

Probably there is no strong storyline. But there are some important things why I play this game almost every evening. I love its gameplay, love how every weapon and surrounding world sounds and looks, I love an atmosphere and how everything is feeling. You would love it.

Wow, what a turn around for this game after it's recent patch. Customs builds, along with targeted loot grinding has turned this game completely around. The new features makes this game fun to grind and play. Graphics continue to impress.

    every thing is bad
    Music
    Skills
    Missions
    Sound performance
    Graphics
    Slow personal movement
Why every ugly face in the personalization of the female character?
The atmosphere does not look real. It was copied from the PlayStation 3
I mean the rain and the weather fluctuations and the sky and the shape of the stars look like a baby drawing in a paper.

Do you like to buy something that is not functional ? So do not buy this game because, I cannot take 10 steps and the game crashes. I cannot believe that the company deliver something that was not finalized. I never bought game in advance and this case I did because my friends invited me to play together and i pay for something that is not available in the release date.

The most generic game ever made. Really with I could have a refund, but since they aren't Steam, it's not possible. Even though it's in the law. Good guy ****

Perfect reward system, very tactile gunplay and great visuals make Division 2 the best loot shooter on the market, and one of the best co-op games in the recent years. [Issue#237, p.36]

For all the deafening noise and fury of its street battles and set-pieces, The Division 2 is, at heart, a game of co-operative tidying up with incrementally better guns.

With the experience accumulated on The Division 1, Massive manages with TD2 to excite our curiosity. Stronger, more generous, better built, the title succeeds where other games as service before it has struggled to. Thanks to its end-game, which renew the experience by adding content and skillfully recycles the existing one, but also thanks to this map of Washington, absolutely fantastic, which allows more than ever to immerse yourself in the universe of the agents of the Division.
