Jul 18, 2020I really admire and respect Jonathan Blow as a game designer, engineer and entrepreneur. This game is original, interesting, and beautiful but not quite captivating. I played it with my friend, enjoyed it, but was not drawn in enough to finish it.

Feb 2, 2016The game is ok, it's hard but I like that. The hype was terrible though. And let's be honest, the game isn't anywhere near the 88/100 it got. The price is also too steep.

Jan 29, 2016It's a game that could only been made by great mind, but not a great game. You can see how it's incredibly complex at one thing, but also how it's so primitive in other things. It's a unique game - for sure, but it was made with a tunnel vision.

Jul 31, 2019This game bored me. I mean, take it or leave it, it's a beautiful game, with great scenery and aesthetic and the puzzles are creative, but at the end of the day, it's a walking simulator with some puzzles that are so abstract and each one being so different from each other, that they can be frustrating.
-
Mar 19, 2023They include puzzles that are unintuitive. They include puzzles that are pure trial and error. The game has a noticeable lack of music. At first I gave this game an 8/10 when the puzzles were intuitive and progression was clear. It didn't last. Progression is unclear.

Apr 10, 2016Video games are unequivocally a form of art. But like all art, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. With 'The Witness' I feel like I’m in an art gallery watching a gaggle of admirers who are looking at a piece together, commenting on its style and how it makes them feel. I’m the guy standing off to the side, not with them but looking at the same painting. I can admit that it’s pretty, but it doesn’t really evoke a significant response, and so I shrug and move on to the next.

Pelit (Finland)Mar 31, 2016The Witness is a “just” puzzle game as much as orgasm is just a feeling. [March 2016]

LEVEL (Czech Republic)Mar 22, 2016The most beautiful IQ test under the sun? The Witness is much more than that. Celebration of human intelligence and lament to the fate that results from it. [Issue # 261]
