    Released during the deepest decline of RPG era, The Witcher really stands out amongst the "classics" of that period (Oblivion, Fallout 3). The game depicts the adventures of Geralt, a genetically altered monster hunter, who - in accordance with genre traditions - has lost his memory. Most of the storyline is relatively low-key, being centered on finding out what exactly is going on around you, killing monsters, and solving mysteries – though there is also the factional conflict, political intrigue, and backstabbing.

    The main strength of the game is its focus on choices and consequences. Eschewing the simplistic "good/evil/random" options, The Witcher offers decisions in a morally grey area, often forcing the player to choose between the lesser of several evils. The character system is interesting but not overwhelmingly complex, featuring several different spells and swordfighting styles. A delightful addition is the excellent alchemy system, which allows the player to create a large variety of potions used in lieu of the traditional buff spells. The combat is fun, but while the rhythm-based fighting feels novel at first, it gets rather easy once you get the hang of it.

    Overall, you should play The Witcher if you are looking for an atmospheric action RPG in a gritty setting with an outstanding story, colorful characters, and a great soundtrack. Oh, and **** Everybody loves ****    … Expand

    To this day it's amazing game with incredible atmosphere which for me is as good as The Witcher 3 although darker. It's amazing action RPG, game combat is a little bit outdated but story and quests are awesome.

    The potion use is kind of dumb. It can only be taken pre-battle not during. So good luck knowing the exact time to when and where to down one. This game has no theft mechanic. Anything can be take under the noses of NPC without no fallout.

    The combat on paper sounds really fun. Different types of weapons to kill humans and monsters. With the ability to dodge and use magic with combat enhancement potions. However it is just mostly a dull mouse click timer fest. So yeah the combat is better in concept than execution. A game for retro niche RPG fans maybe in 2019?    … Expand

    The Witcher is still a fantastic RPG even by today’s standards. Having played The Witcher 2 and 3 before finally diving into the original, I was very hesitant to play this one at first because of how outdated and clumsy it seems. While the game really does show its age (especially in terms of game design, interface, and combat), it truly sets the tone for the sequels in quest design,The Witcher is still a fantastic RPG even by today’s standards. While the game really does show its age (especially in terms of game design, interface, and combat), it truly sets the tone for the sequels in quest design, story, and the overall atmosphere.

    The visuals are still pretty damn impressive even for a 13 year old game. I can imagine the graphics blowing everyone away when it first released. In good old Witcher fashion, the music is beautiful and a pleasure to listen to. Preparation is (at least on the hardest difficulty) paramount: taking on the various monsters will require you to read about their strengths and weaknesses as well as preparing the necessary potions or oils to be successful. However, the “combat” is very bare-bones. Fighting is done automatically and boils down to timing your mouse clicks in a certain rhythm to perform the next chain of a combo. Is it the most engaging combat system ever? Definitely not, but it’s pretty awesome and oddly satisfying to watch Geralt pull off some pretty sweet combos. The bread and butter, however, is the atmosphere and tone the game sets. Everything from the story, to side quests, to the many characters you run into will ask you to make some difficult choices that will impact the story. It does a really good job of asking yourself what the lesser evil is in all the choices you make.

    The game does run into a few issues. For a game made in 2007, there are just some unexplained performance issues I ran into. My system is well above what’s required to run this, but I ran into some FPS problems in certain areas. My biggest gripe is that you can miss quests entirely or miss the chance of turning in completed quests if you advance the story far enough. It really isn’t an issue in the grand scheme, but it’s just a bummer missing out on some of the story because you didn’t know you had to finish quests before a certain point of the story.

    Honestly, if you played and enjoyed The Witcher 2 and 3, go back to its roots and play this one. It might take some time for you to warm up to this game, but it really is an awesome RPG. Yes, it is a bit dated, and yes, some parts of the game can be frustrating, but it’s more than worth your time to experience this very underrated title.    … Expand

    Well done. It is vast, the story is long and intricated, and nice the fact to use potions and upgrades. At the end I only used few potions, and selected sword. Is not like in Diablo, where you have a vast possibility of upgrade armors, sword and potions, but give anyway good way to upgrades. Also all the forces are not the same useful. At the end I used (and upgraded) only two of them. TheWell done. It is vast, the story is long and intricated, and nice the fact to use potions and upgrades. At the end I only used few potions, and selected sword. Is not like in Diablo, where you have a vast possibility of upgrade armors, sword and potions, but give anyway good way to upgrades. Also all the forces are not the same useful. At the end I used (and upgraded) only two of them. The game was running well, and also the fight, after first understanding, is nice. I had anyway to use sometimes some guides to resolve faster the plot, but it is ok. Better then i thought, i will follow to play the 2nd. I really liked the romance cards. Very funny.… Expand

    I actually liked some aspects of the original Witcher more than the Wild Hunt, despite knowing that it is obviously much less polished.
    Combat is clunky, item and skill systems are very boring, last two chapters are very linear. But at the same time that awkward combat system allows Witcher 1 to actually have some difficulty curve, rather then that instant plateau after player learns how    I actually liked some aspects of the original Witcher more than the Wild Hunt, despite knowing that it is obviously much less polished.
    Combat is clunky, item and skill systems are very boring, last two chapters are very linear. But at the same time that awkward combat system allows Witcher 1 to actually have some difficulty curve, rather then that instant plateau after player learns how to dodge roll properly in Witcher 3.
    Writing is good (if you ignore that almost every female character instantly tries to have sex with protagonist), but in the Wild Hunt it was better, especially for the side quests. Player's choices are plenty and a lot of them are even impactfull.

As a result, after playing 20+ hours and not even reaching the middle of the game, I simply abandoned and did not return for almost a year. But the memories flickered, + it was necessary to go through the first part to close the trilogy about the Witcher. And it was unexpectedly fascinating, that very respite in one year,    ENG.
    I managed to consciously play the first part, only in 2016. But the memories flickered, + it was necessary to go through the first part to close the trilogy about the Witcher. And it was unexpectedly fascinating, that very respite in one year, gave me new strengths and I went through the whole game in 5 days (if possible, skipping side quests ). The game for his time - Epic, even now such a player, who does not have much patience and perseverance, will also come to taste the first part. I began to get acquainted with the second part, then there was the third and, despite this, the first one was not nearly worse.     Удалось сознательно поиграть в первую часть, только в 2016. В итоге наиграв 20+ часов и не дойдя даже до середины игры я просто забросил и не возвращался почти год. Но воспоминания теплились, + нужно было до пройти первую часть чтобы закрыть прохождения трилогии о Ведьмаке.И его было неожиданно увлекательно, та самая передышка в один год, дала мне новые силы и я за 5 дней прошел всю игру (по возможности не пропуская сайд квесты).Игра для своего времени - Эпик, даже сейчас такому игроку, у которого есть не много терпения и усидчивости, тоже придет по вкусу первая часть. Я вот начинал знакомство со второй части, потом была третья и не смотря на это первая не чуть не хуже. Огромное спасибо хочется сказать разработчикам, кому интересно почитайте на Вики или еще где, как создавалась игра и скольких трудов им это стоило.Спасибо Вам CDProjectRED.    … Expand

    First Witcher is hard game to judge, this is beginning of great trilogy, but the game is just ok. We have great story and characters, but terrible combat system and side quests. I recommended this game for fans of book and maybe if you wanna play witcher 2 and 3.

    The graphics is a bit outdated now but the story plot is thick. One of the best RPG game series starting with this and the first of a game trilogy.

    50 часов прогулок по болотам. Но... чего лукавить, игра держала за яйца и не отпускала. Нельзя назвать себя настоящим любителем ведьмака, не пройдя эту страницу игровой истории. 7 - хорошая оценка.

    I dropped this game after about 10-15 hours into it due in large part to how boring the combat was. Its just a really simple rhythm game, which is especially dissapointing seeing as how I came to this game from The Witcher 3.

    Let's go over the cons first: the combat is hard to learn, it is very different from other games and will fight against you a lot int he beginning. After learning it, it's possible to forget the hassle that it was before but it never feels great to be in combat...     and that's it.
    The rest is pure positive, the characters are SO MEMORABLE, on a game moved by player choice you get conflicted about what to do in almost all of them, concerned about what will become of the characters, what will become of the witcher. The game is how choices have consequences, and it flat out tells you in the beginning, in a not so subtle way. The monsters are creative and their relation to the world and how witchers react to them is something fresh and new.
    The music is really good, the sound was suprisingly awesome by the time, and the voice acting never made me lose any immersion.
    By the end, you just want to know more and more about this universe and the characters that live in it.    … Expand

Puede que si no tienes edad para haber jugado al primer capítulo en su momento, puede que te haya sorprendido negativamente su imagen final, pero sin duda es un juego que merece la pena intentar jugar, si te gustaron los dos anteriores.. Algún despistado, lo ha llegado a ningunear al compararlo con la tercera parte de la entrega, lo cual es de una falta de perspectiva alarmante.     Buena historia, y algunas ideas jugables interesantes y poco vistas, pero se nota que iban cortos de presupuesto, y en general intentar pasarse este juego en 2022 es bastante duro, ha envejecido bastante mal. Lo dicho, lo único que salva este juego es una historia interesantes, y bien llevada.

    Aaaah yes, i've been wanting to dive into this game ever since i played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. And having played this game, i'm surprised they ever made it to a sequel... just wow.

    As for the Lore and characters, the game does a good job of telling a story that's interesting and keeps you curious. And those are the best aspects of the game, because everything else is either bad or    Aaaah yes, i've been wanting to dive into this game ever since i played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. And having played this game, i'm surprised they ever made it to a sequel... just wow.

    As for the Lore and characters, the game does a good job of telling a story that's interesting and keeps you curious. And those are the best aspects of the game, because everything else is either bad or average. In nicely fashioned bullet points:
    1) Awkward combat: The combat in The Witcher is at bare minimum cinematic, but very clumsy and broken. Fighting a group of Salamandra or Ghouls is a game of dice, as sometimes the battle will end in 2 minutes with everyone and everything being killed, or it will end in 5 minutes with you dying and barely a scratch on any enemy.
    2) Ugly character models: The human characters and elves are okay when it comes to modelling, but the dwarfs are freaking UGLY! They look like some inbred morons with down syndrome.
    3) Bestiary Requirements: Whoever thought that making bestiary entries mandatory to get certain items, EVEN THOUGH you already killed these animals, is stupid. It makes getting the items a hassle, as it is incredibly hard to find the required books because no one will tell you where to get them unless you turn over every rock and stone.
    4) It's broken: Yes, the game is not at all completely functional. The inventory is downright broken because the second half of it can't be clicked on. You got an item on the 5th row? Well good luck getting it, because you can't click on it! It's broken!
    5) Overcomplicated: From the menu's, to the combat system, to the alchemy and finding items you need, the game is way to complicated. I've played a game from 2004 called Fable: The Lost Chapters, which will show you exactly how to make easy to use menu's and give proper hints to find what you are looking for. The Witcher 'Enhanced Edition my ass' is a maze.

    Don't believe the reviews giving this 9's and 10's. People who loved The Witcher 3 just want to convince everyone else that this game is somehow amazing, except it isn't. It's an average game, and in true CD Project RED fashion, it's a technical shaky product. I give this game a 5/10.    … Expand

    Very strong base for great games like the followers of the first Witcher are. Despite that, this is the most underestimated game in the serie. It has a lot of stronger and also weaker sides, but in all, it's the great and definitely one of the most overlooked pieces of the first decade of 2000s.     No voy a dar una opinión muy extensa sobre este título, es un RPG muy bueno, introduce la historia que se terminaría convirtiendo en lo que es hoy en día, se nota y se siente como una versión beta de lo que sería The Witcher 3 en muchos sentidos, ya que el esquema que sigue para contar su historia por zonas y demás es bastante parecido en una escala mucho menor a la que se utiliza en TheNo voy a dar una opinión muy extensa sobre este título, es un RPG muy bueno, introduce la historia que se terminaría convirtiendo en lo que es hoy en día, se nota y se siente como una versión beta de lo que sería The Witcher 3 en muchos sentidos, ya que el esquema que sigue para contar su historia por zonas y demás es bastante parecido en una escala mucho menor a la que se utiliza en The Witcher 3.

    El juego lo valoro como un inicio y una apuesta a su historia, ya que en este título es en el que menos decisiones vas a tomar que cambien realmente la historia para los siguientes títulos, ya que sacaras easters eggs y frases de diálogo en los siguientes títulos que cambien respecto a los demás, pero poco más. Pero la historia que se cuenta en el juego y sus secundarias SÍ que merecen muchísimo la pena y a pesar de ver videos de resumen en su momento para jugar The Witcher 2 he descubierto muchas partes de la historia, personajes y lore que no tenía ni idea de que existían.

    En resumen es un juego que ha envejecido bastante mal siendo sincero y puede que te eche para atrás sobre todo los dos primeros capítulos de este. Pero la verdad si te gusta mucho The Witcher y quieres saber absolutamente todo y estas pensando en jugarlo tranquilamente sin meterte prisa, te recomiendo que le des una oportunidad, porque a pesar de ser un juego que ha envejecido mal me lo he pasado sin mods ni nada, pero aun así se que hay muchos que mejoran la experiencia si quieres jugar mucho más cómodo.

    Te recomiendo jugarlo si quieres exprimir el mundo The Witcher y te recomiendo 100% la versión actualizada de GOG, ya que la de Steam esta muy abandonada.    … Expand

    эту игру обязан пройти каждый, качественно проработанная сюжетка , диалоги, но боёвка желает лучшего , советую начинать знакомится с миром ведьмока с этой игры, она сделает из вас настоящего мужыка . И один совет если вы школьник и играете когда мама дома не надо заниматься любовью с девушками в игре потому-что после проведёного времени даётся карточка,а на ней голые девушкиэту игру обязан пройти каждый, качественно проработанная сюжетка , диалоги, но боёвка желает лучшего , советую начинать знакомится с миром ведьмока с этой игры, она сделает из вас настоящего мужыка .     Played the game for the first time in 2013. But the hands reached the last parts, only the nearest time. Of course the graphics is outdated, but if we give rating without this thing, the game is good. It was uncomfortable at first to play because of the specific combat system, but after some time I got used to it ... however, I would not want to return to such a system again anymore.     Where the game disappoints is primarily the boring combat, the clunky controls and the running back and forth forever in some of the quests.

    Other cons:
    There was some serious difficulty spikes in the later parts, so it felt like poor skill speccing would probably make the game nearly unbeatable, my biggest example (no spoil) was when running into a 2-part boss where the first part always got me down to 30% hp only for the second phase to bash the sh*t out of me in seconds, i had to run around in the big boss arena for 10+ mins before he lost aggro because i got too far away so i could sit and eat hp reg food for another 10 mins (before this i had no problems with any enemies). Item management is also a pain in the ass, there's times you can't access the item bank and then you'll either have to drop stuff or ignore the things you find.

    Would i recommend? Only if you think you have the patience required and you're a big witcher fan that really wanna take part of the story    … Expand

    World building: the witcher has a rich world and the first game i don't think dose the world as much justice as the later entries do , the witchers themselves are awesome i like the idea of them , profesional monster slayers i wanted to learn more about them and meeting any witcher besides geralt was a treat, all mages seem to know each other or at least know of each other and see them as colleges similar with witchers to other witchers, and that really gives characters a sense of place in this world witch is great. even monsters have a reason for being more so in later games though. it doesn't really go into detail about kings and queens like witcher 2 dose though

    Graphics: this game is fairly but the graphics are decent still but nothing impressive , everything looks dindgy and kinda gross witch i dont think thats what the devs were going for. models are awkward at best even for the time but the graphics aren't horrible just dated. at least kaer morran looks good

    - Quicksave will create 500 savegame files at least so you should delete older saves from time to time

    For me, it's even better than Witcher 2. 50 hours of gameplay, good climate, like in book. Very good leveling system and story. 3 possible endings. Fighting is very simple and probably because of engine is one of weakest pont of game but can be enjoyable. I recommend use mod Full Combat Rebalance and we have perfect game.

    Incredible story, good graphic, for an 12 years old game and the gameplay is very funny. The only problem with the gameplay is the combat, if you are fighting with another enemy who is on a different platform, for example you are in the lake and the enemy is on the land, you could have a bug who doesn’t able you to hit the enemy.

And especially chapter 4 has that... lets say "non-western fantasy", more like lovecraftian feeling, which is quite unique among st other fantasy RPGs . And so when it was announced that this game is going to be made, I was really sceptical. I had been a fan of the Witcher books long before this game was announced, unlike vast majority of the fans in the West. And so when it was announced that this game is going to be made, I was really sceptical. A new Polish game studio, with very little experience was trying to recreate that unique Witcher atmosphere in a AAA wannabe format? No chance anything good can come of that, I thought. Boy was I wrong! I still remember my first playthrough. Not only it wasn't a disaster, it was actually great. And they nailed the Witcher atmosphere. Lets talk about that for a while. I truly believe that the Witcher is quite unique. Sure there are other, much more brutal and vulgar and obscene and visceral fantasy worlds. But I love the Witcher world for being, at its very core, truly cynical. I just love that. And the developers truly managed to transfer this feeling to this game, which alone is a praiseworthy achievement. But there is so much more to this game. The graphics is very good for its time, with the somewhat bleak colors brilliantly portraying the somewhat bleak reality of the world. The loading screens and story decision cutscenes art is just awesome. The music is great, it fits the Witcher world perfectly. The main theme proved to be such a hit that it remained a main theme (with some changes) for both successor games. I always liked the Murky Waters tavern song, such a merry wedding song in the midst of all the suffering and war. The main story itself is actually very short and quite simple, and honestly, I do not think the mutants were even necessary, but it works anyway. Mainly because it is very often intertwined with the many secondary storylines and together they make a great game. The prologue is a tutorial, Act I gives you much more, but essentially it is closed off and can be considered an advanced tutorial. Then Act II and III are pretty much connected and in my opinion, this is the best part of the game. The game turns into a grim detective genre and again it works excellently. The game does not hold your hand, you must make your own deductions and reach your own conclusions and you can easily make a mistake, which will cost you. The characters are great, believable with typical bitter Witcher sense of humor. Then Act IV takes you into the country, but problems follow you there and add to those that are already there. In Act V you pretty much reap what you sowed. Epilogue gives you the obvious and expected ending, but with one (almost) hidden twist, that you can quite easily miss, which puts it all in a different perspective. One thing that the game has been criticised for is the combat. It is unusual, bit weird, bit repetitive, but it was not a problem for me. I got used to it quickly and then it felt normal ever since. The game does get a bit too easy towards the end, even on the highest difficulty, but that is a normal thing for RPGs. The talents are almost all passive, but with a quite a lot of freedom, so especially sign oriented builds definitely deserve a replay. The next thing I want to mention is the choices. You are making choices almost all the time, some are felt immediately, some are felt only much later, some are not felt at all, but they still affect the world in major way, even though you do not even know about them. Almost like the real world. In the most general sense, you can choose between Humans and Nonhumans. Or you can refuse to choose and remain strictly neutral in a Witcher way. It is great that you have that choice. Throughout the game you can also partake in drinking competitions, bare knuckle fighting and of course the excellent dice poker. One last thing: the romance. This game offers you basically two major romance options and then plethora of trysts (including a tryst with Triss, which can turn into a major romance spanning all three games). Your achievements on the fields of love are then forever recorded in the forms of in-game collectable cards with paintings of said females in often quite revealing positions. One of the greatest gaming ideas of all times. And all these things together make up the fantastic atmosphere I mentioned before. A bit dark, a bit sad and really cynical. I have nothing negative to say about this game. I played on PC and completed the game in about 50 hours. Naturally, no microtransactions and no SJW. A Witcher 1 remake is now in development and once again I am pretty sceptical and cynical about it. It will be open world, which might change the gameplay drastically. I truly hope none of the modern world SJW netflix cancer will affect this remake. By the way, don't you dare touch the sex cards.

    The Witcher is a fantastic game, that was somehow followed by two even more fantastic games. The more I play this excellent game, the more I am convinced that the remake is utterly unnecessary. Final Verdict: 95 %    … Expand

    Amazing take on the books and an amazing RPG with interesting characters and quests. It excells at atmopshere of the witcher. Graphics is good for its time even though some npcs are pretty scary. Geralt is portrayed as he should be here and all other characters as well. Good skill tree and combat is kind of clunky and too simple but not that bad.

    Have been through the game 6-7 times, always same choices (eh I like it consistent).

    The story was amazing and definitely worth my time. Graphics are of course a bit old but not terrible. Game mechanics are good, but the combat is a bit boring at times.

Да и геймплей вполне не плохой. Сюжет держит в напряжении всю игру. Единственное, за что снял балл, так это боевка. Она слишком простая, вы просто нажимаете одну кнопку и убиваете всех противников. Ah, and yeah - the game is pretty easy. I played on normal and only occasionally I struggled with my foes. If you don't have difficulties dealing with your opponents you don't have much reason to care about all that plenitude of different mixtures you can make and of course you could care less about your charachter level and skills. Considering we are talking about RPG here it is not a good look. Honestly, the whole game (okay, at least the first half of it) feels like a beta version of some game which still will need at least 3 months to be ready. I don't understand how someone could let the game to be released worldwide and to not see all the problems that were present regarding NPCs, the difficulty, the dialogues, the gameplay, the music, etc.

    Of course the world is deep, interesting and feels alive which is unsurprising considering all the source material available thanks to 8 books written by Andrzej Sapkowski so there isn't much the game developers should praised for in this regard either.

    Pretty much the first half of the game was "meh" but it really picked up the steam in the second half and starting from the forth chapter the plot got really good(if it didn't the game certainly would be rated "6" or even "5") - it is as though the second half of the game was made by completely different people or the writers and producers actually learned something along the way while making the first 3 chapters and thanks god because otherwise we would never see a sequel.    … Expand

El único problema de haber jugado este juego en 2019 es el control, viejo y tosco, con combates mediocres casi siempre. Lo recomiendo mucho si os llama la atención la saga.

    An amazing game, from an exciting storyline to interesting game mechanics. In this game, I was so imbued with the atmosphere that I just couldn't tear myself away from passing. And the soundtrack of this game is worthy of all awards and respect for the developers. One of my favorite games.

La historia es grandiosa y es sorprendente como un personaje como Alvin puede pasar desapercibido en un principio y después (ya como Jack de Aldesberg) se convierte en el enemigo final. Las menciones a la cacería salvaje y el final con el atentado contra el rey de Temería son simplemente una maravilla. Ahora bien, en cuanto al apartado técnico deja un poco que desear (no puedes saltar ni correr) y el gameplay le falta un poco para estar al 100% de su capacidad, le falto corregir ese detalle.     I've played this game so many times I can't even remember. Sure it has some rough edges, but this makes it even more entertaining. Especially with all mods the game actually stands tall even in comparison with new games like TLOU.

Estos personajes dirigen las historias y motivan al jugador a preocuparse profundamente por sus decisiones.

    Para rematar la aventura narrativa, la elección del jugador es omnipresente durante todo el juego. Hay múltiples decisiones difíciles de tomar sobre los eventos importantes, y varias razones para favorecer cualquier camino dado. Esto pone peso detrás de sus elecciones, ya que cada decisión que tome podría traer devastación; cada elección podría conducir a un mal mayor. El juego muestra hábilmente que comprende la importancia de la consecuencia, ya que el epílogo no es más que una prueba mordaz de ti como Geralt de Rivia, y las elecciones que has hecho durante la duración de tu partida.

Analizo ahora ya que volví a jugarlo de nuevo para Cyberpunk 2077, ya que para mi la mejor saga de los videojuegos es The Witcher, ya que cada entrega mejora a la anterior, y te hace ver que CDPR tiene ambición, pasión y que de verdad ama los videojuegos, la calidad de esta empresa es innegable.     El juego que asentaría las bases para una de las mejores sagas de videojuegos de la historia, esta un poco verde en la mayoría de aspectos del juego, pero se va perfeccionando poco a poco en los próximos juegos, el basarse en los libros pero no copiar la historia ni hacer una continuación directa me parece fantástico y una gran elección.

    Очень не до оценённая игра своего времени, как по мне, и если вы всё ещё не пробовали игру, то попробуйте. Вас она будет бесить тем, что всё морально устарело. Но с 10-го часа вы начнёте получать удовольствие от всего, если не раньше. И вам даже понравятся резко все ваши первые 10 часов. Это тот самый момент когда ты понимаешь, что сделано с душой.Очень не до оценённая игра своего времени, как по мне, и если вы всё ещё не пробовали игру, то попробуйте.
