I looked forward to Sims 4 - knowing that toddlers have been wiped from the face of the earth (is this a Freudian decision on the part of parents of toddlers?) but hoping that the flexibility of Sims 2 would be restored.
As it is, Sims 4 has created a record. I picked up my copy at 17.30 today. Installed it. Loaded it. Created a family and a house. And logged off at 18.45.
Possibly the lack of documentation or anything remotely useful in the ReadMe file is a handicap. The tutorial irritated by telling me what, by accident, I seemed to be trying to achieve - but how do I find out what there is to achieve?
Also, I live in a multilingual household: what happened to the option to instal in a language other than US English?
The only plus over previous Sims offerings that I have discovered is that I can play on my laptop when I'm away from home without having the single DVD drive occupied by a Sims disk, allowing me to listen to my choice of music while playing instead of having to make do with whatever radio is available.
At least, it will be a plus if, in due course, I find some reason to play Sims 4 again.

The way I felt playing it is best described as "uninspiring", it barely adds anything to the franchise while removing or messing up several features. And that stupid tutorial when you first play the game, I'VE PLAYED THE LAST 3 GAMES I KNOW HOW THIS WORKS!

With the graphics they've gone from half-realistic to compleatly cartoony along with muddy textures and low-poly models. There is almost no customization whatsoever just preset colors and patterns, several steps down from sims 3.
And yes, multitasking... Technically it sounds great but practically it just falls flat and is annoying.
When I want someone in a hurry to eat mac n cheese I don't want them to cease doing that to talk to someone across the table and then continue.
The sims AI has apparently become dumber too, often I find sims standing looking into a wall wondering what to do.
And the emotions? So far they only seem slightly annoying and only created to make the game look somewhat deeper then it really is.

Just about the only upgrade from previous games is the sim creater (if you ignore no color/pattern customization and terrible looking, low selection of hair.) you'll be able to create characters in far better detail then before.
Did I mentione I played the sims for apple products too? The sims 4 feels pretty much like that, scaled down and simplified.

So my advise? If you really must have this game, buy it once it's like 50-75% sale or better yet, just get the "create a sim" demo and play that, at the moment that's as fun this game is getting.

After my Sim was moved in, I felt like I should do what I do in all my Sims games, introduce myself to the neighbors! Now lets just ............ walk on over. Wait a minute. Was there seriously a loading screen to walk 10 feet from my house? Lets check that ............. again. Yup, definitely a loading screen. At least with this, I know that this game is extremely optimized... for tablet play. Heck, this game would be great for multiplayer play as well. Wait, what was that? This game utilizes neither multiplayer nor tablet hardware? You know what? That's fine, I can probably buy those features for a premium a few months down the line. Probably all the missing features might be worth, I don't know, $150 within a few years time. I mean, why offer a complete game at launch when micro transactions are the future! Passive aggressiveness aside, this game is solid if you've never played a Sims game before and have an industrial pair of EA branded blinders ($14.99 for the deluxe super limited edition blinders). However, if you have prior love for the Sims, this game is a complete and utter waste of money. Stick to the previous installments with the dozens of dlc you probably already have from sales, and hope that EA finally kicks the bucket so this franchise can be picked up by people who actually care about their customers and not just about their wallets. I compare this to buying WoW for $60 bucks but you need to pay another $15 to wear a helmet, oh you want to dual wield thats $15 bucks too, oh do you want to leave Orgrimmar? Thats $15. Hell if you want to see other players thats another $15 lets just get your credit card added.

Avoid this game until they learn from their ways and package more content in their games. Not just a barely changed revamp of the last model that is missing half the content.

The Sims 4 has taken two steps forward, and ten steps backward with the changes that they've made. Create a Sim has become far more intuitive and allows for far more customisation than what we've seen before, and that's fantastic. If only we had this level of customisation in TS3, and everyone would be happy.

After you create a Sim and take the first look at the neighbourhood you quickly realise they've taken away one of the best parts of TS3, and that's the open neighbourhood. There are a negligible number of lots, and only *four* community lots, with loading times in between all of them! The biggest appeal of TS3 was the open world, and the ability to create far reaching stories with constant interaction without getting thumped by a loading screen constantly. Sure, at release there were performance issues, but most people have upgraded their PC's to a point where it's not an issue.

Overall, the improvements to this game are negligible, and considering the price point and dearth of content it just isn't worth your time or money.

Those who have given this game a positive review clearly fall into one of two categories: 1) Those who have never really played the Sims before, or only ever played casually and 2) Those who will always and forever blindly love anything with the word "Sim" in the title regardless of its quality and who may have unlimited disposable income.

This is not a complete game, period, and anyone trying to argue that's not the case is a straight up liar. In fact, if anyone from EA would be honest for a minute, I am sure they would agree with this sentiment. Originally, Sims 4 was meant to be a multiplayer online experience akin to SimCity. With such a big planned departure from previous Sims' titles, features present in other games were understandably left out. When SimsCity failed, EA changed gears... but by that point it was too late to go back and create something that worked as a standalone, single player game.

Like a lot of people, I find the changes made to the Sims themselves (including the changes to CAS, minus the absence of Create a Style) to be positive. However, the good things about the game basically end there. Yes, build mode is more powerful but I used Create a Style so much that without it I can do almost nothing I want. This isn't just about missing pools and toddlers. The game is missing its charm, its soul. That's what is unforgivable.

Conversations are awkward and difficult to maintain. Pathfinding is a mess. Glitches abound. I could go on and on about what's bad without once using the phrase "missing from Sims 3," although that really wouldn't be accurate since there are indeed many things available in the Sims 3 base game that have gone the way of the wind and are sorely missed. I'm not going to list them; many of these lists are available elsewhere online. All I will say is these absences are completely conspicuous and only add to the feeling of incompleteness.

This is so bad that I fear the series is done with this title. This was my single most anticipated release of the year, and I found it so disappointing that it moved me close to tears. The Sims franchise was and still is an absolute cultural phenomenon. Those of us who have been playing from the beginning have been doing so for close to fifteen years. I have so many good memories of The Sims, The Sims 2, and the Sims 3, as do many others. While I feel that video games can be art, they are also completely commercial and thus I believe that game developers do have a certain degree of responsibility to their fans of all devotion levels. To roll this out, call it The Sims, and try to convince us that it is anywhere near what we have seen before in the franchise is an absolute disgrace.

Trust me, EA knows all of this. If you don't believe me, then I'll leave you on this note: The Sims 4 is the first title in the franchise that was not released early to be reviewed, and that says about as much about the game as anything else possibly can.

    To the game:

Pros: Ui is definitely better it more intuitive and u can search items by names or filter.. thats very nice
Moods: well it isnt definitely implemented the best but its kinda nice feature.. Your sims now "feels" and trying to act like normal human he can be flirty , focused , sad, etc.. The interaction with items ll getting changed in addittion in what mood u are same with socializing.. But thats all .. First 2 hours its kinda new feature and good but then its feel incompleted, empty.. If u were playing Sims 4 u know what I wanna say its just bad .... And thats all pros what u can expect from Sims 4...

Cons: Theres so much featured took away.. No color wheel only few basic colors, no repairman, no schools, no real working u just send ur sim to work and u got stucked in ur house unless u dont have another sim at home. New carrer is kinda weird... U take a job and in order to become promoted u have to make special little quest like write a book, make game etc... it sounds very good but in play its bored cuz u are always stucked at home.. Neighbours are separated, u live in livehood with like 4 houses thats all... And ofc u just cant go to the neighbour knock on the door or check for his/her trash you have to click on his house and loading screen appears... WTF?!! in 2014 next gen game.. Socializing is totally broken... You can have army of normarriage kids if u wanna wohoo/ sex/ just go to the library or gym spoke little to someone use few flirts take his/her home and just wohoo.. u can wohoo like 2 3 girls/ guys in one night... You can have like army of nonmarriage children as i said .. The worst part is sims do have emotions but only those crapy *** which they have implemented.. Someone pls tell me how can one guy have sex with every girl in city in less that one day of playing and they are growing pretty fast:D u woohoo and two days after ur chick come to u as pregnant 2 days next u got a baby :D and like few days he s a teenager wth?:D Theres no real feeling about it and its just totally weird.. Everything is totally cheapr except few items like one bad cost 1500 dolars and the best one cost 13000? or something like that.. It seems EA doesnt wanna from theircustomers to get bored so if u wanna the best crap which is like 0,00001% better pay aditional 12000 dolars for one bed wth...

Sims 4 brings new additions to skills... its like some little rpg.. for example u cant buy like half of items from shop cuz if u wanna buy for example best computer u have to become tech guru lvl 10 so u have to work with computers etc.. or u cant upgrade ur stuff unless u have repair level 8 or something.. it totally weird that half of content u just cant buy cuz its locked.. yeah sure EA again dont wanna their customers get bored but theres better way how to not get bored zheir customers.. its just feels all clunky and stupid

The bunch of items missing like dishwasher burglars cars, bicycle etc...
And ofc stupid people ll buy it and are waiting for new expansions like stupid sheeps... Yeah with expansios it l be definitely better i guess cuz they are gonna implement new content but its so mean and stupid from EA to so much *** with their customers....

so its up to u readers if u wanna become sheep and play this crap or send ur bucks or euros to buy something in real life like flowers for ur wife or for ur real kid.....

Sim fans, please be aware that this is an absolute disappointment. There are a few positives, but minuscule in comparison to the negative. First off, the loading screen was quick, the Build Your Sim Mode was easy to use and fun! However, when choosing clothes and choosing hair color, there is little to none customization. You no longer have the freedom to change the color, material or pattern. Same goes for the decor of your home, they have pre set choices of colors for you to choose from. The sims look overly animated and cartoonish, yes, the graphics are great and very smooth, but what's the point if the sims look ridiculous anyway? Second, WHAT HAPPENED TO FREE ROAMING? What happened to the city living and the townhall? There is nothing! You are basically left to live your days out on your lot and your lot only. I could go on and on about this game, I was really looking forward to The Sims4, but now I am unhappy and I am re-downloading the Sims3. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been playing The Sims since the very first day that The Sims came out. When The Sims 2 was introduced I thought it was a step up and very enjoyable as for The Sims 3 as well. However I have to agree with majority of people who think The Sims 4 is step down and a huge disappointment. It's plain looking and flat out boring.

In The Sims 4 they really took a lot away from the game. "Bigger personalities and possibilities?" More like less traits, less personality aspects and fewer possibilities. How can the sim be weirder or have bigger personality's when you have less than 5 traits you can have, you can't have favorite music, colors, or anything like that. Also what possibilities? There is NO TRUE neighborhood or places to go and it's more like a game app with small challenges like play a game for 4 hours. How lame is that?

    Where do I began?
Starters the Main Menu sucks. It's a mess. Files for saved games? Are you kidding. I have 6 files for ONE game and I never know which one to play. When someone else gets on to play it just seems to mess up my game and start me over. Very unorganized and hard to understand and very easy to screw up other peoples saved games.

2nd sure you can make your sim super skinny or have fat legs or little feet but you can't manipulate features like on The Sims 3. Also I wish there was an actual menu for things instead of having to click on the shirt or pants to view the clothes. They took away a lot of stuff too like favorites and the color wheel, ect.

When in build/buy mode I find it very hard to use or find things and the tools are all scattered. Again its a mess. And don't get me started about how hard and annoying it is to scroll and rotate around the screen to view the house or sims.

When playing the game there's nothing to really do besides pee, eat, and sleep. There is nothing to see, go to, or any true challenges to accomplish or fun task to do. Even gardening is stupid now. There is no collecting things either as far as I know of.
My sims only seem to need to pee!!!!!! I can't even experience everything without it going half way to the needs then going down as quick as a blink of an eye after the half way point. And what's up with the needs being some random box that's annoying at the corner of the screen blocking the side view?

You can't even edit your town or get a bigger lot or place lots. EVERTHING IS SO LIMITED!!!!!!! You can't even move a house you like to a bigger lot. Another big thing that got me is no toddlers. Really? This is A LIFE GAME. It's about raising a family and taking care of them. I agree with a lot of people, this game is more like Sims 2.5! IF YOU MAKE A GAME YOU SHOULD ONLY ADD TO IT NOT TAKE EVERY SINGLE MAJOR THING AWAY FROM IT. SMH. IM VERY UPSET TO HAVE WASTED 80 BUCKS ON THIS GAME.

When I first heard about all the things that would be missing from the game (IE: toddlers and pools) I immediately googled to see what EA was thinking. Their PR guy was talking about all the new features they were adding and simply didn't have time to include these things just yet. While I'd rather wait for a full product, I can make exceptions if there are truly many features being addedWhen I first heard about all the things that would be missing from the game (IE: toddlers and pools) I immediately googled to see what EA was thinking. While I'd rather wait for a full product, I can make exceptions if there are truly many features being added onto the game.

After the release however, I found out that it was a bunch of PR bull#*@$. Almost none of what made the previous sims (sims 3) great, was in the sims 4. No more open world, loading screens even when visiting your nextdoor neighbor, tiny "cities" (they call them worlds.. what a joke), limited clothing and build items, etc.. I could go on but I'd rather touch on their "improvements". The new sims touts better emotions and smarter sims. While I do like some of the changes, it's still needs a lot of work. In the end it's barely a improvement over the sims 3 interactions and certainly not an excuse for all the stuff they left out.

My final thought is that maybe if Sims 3 never happened, this game might've been praised a bit more. Maybe. As it is it feels like a $60+ Emotion and Texture DLC for sims 2 (IF you also removed several features from sims 2). Do not buy.

I have played previous Sims games. Its sorta fells just like the sims 2.I liked sims 3 because on the new things it added but this doesnt add anything to the Sims games. And i fear that the DLC for the game will be even more than in the Sims 3 which was a lot.The game is OK but thats the problem. They could have made something far better instead of adding to the game they took from it.ItsI have played previous Sims games. Its sorta fells just like the sims 2.I liked sims 3 because on the new things it added but this doesnt add anything to the Sims games. And i fear that the DLC for the game will be even more than in the Sims 3 which was a lot.The game is OK but thats the problem. They could have made something far better instead of adding to the game they took from it.Its just not as good as the previous Sims games. While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

The Sims 4 is just a foundation of a game. How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
