Not buying this game on sheer principle. It maybe very good, but leaving out pools, toddlers and customization options just paves the way for EA to exploit money from people by releasing the features at a trickle slow speed in DLC. But then I guess that just adds to the list of franchises that EA has poisoned.

There is so many stripped features in this game it's unenjoyable, on top of that the game is really buggy and unstable. I feel like the game rotates around the character only, instead of everyone else, no one is interacting only you are, no one is traveling to places they just get placed there. The game small improvements that I liked, but I barely enjoyed the game at all with the stripped features, such as no pools and toddlers. They say it's for their engine, but it seems like a **** engine to me, ea knew what they were doing, they just wanted to get a few easy bucks from unsuspecting customers. Expand

This game is promising, but the only way EA can redeem themselves is giving aways DLC's for free. The Sims 4 is a remastered version of The Sims. On the other hand, the new Sim Creation is pretty cool, plus some other stuff (the piano is back!). Luckily, we'll have some upgrades soon with the missing content. Expand

I gave Sims 4 a go even though my expectations were low and I was proved right and then some. The score of two is for the parts of CAS/Build that would work if they evelved, I do like how intuitive it [CAS] is, however, even then it is not very sensitive when sliding the body parts, plus they have further limited how many traits, there are barely any of them there are a lot of trait combosI gave Sims 4 a go even though my expectations were low and I was proved right and then some. The score of two is for the parts of CAS/Build that would work if they evelved, I do like how intuitive it [CAS] is, however, even then it is not very sensitive when sliding the body parts, plus they have further limited how many traits, there are barely any of them there are a lot of trait combos that aren't allowed and you are limited to three per sim when the 5 in sims 3 was barely enough. When making my simself I found it incredibly frustrating that you couldn't be childish and hate kids. Not having the hate kids option also means that the second your sims marries they'll start wanting kids.

Which brings me to the gameplay itself, it is seriously thin on features and what features there are have their irritations. Every time there are other sims around your sims decides to group chat even if you have a loner sim and have turned autonomy off (and what happened to low autonomy? High or off, it's jarring), everything is more expensive, the GUI is more of an annoyance than an improvement, want to see your sim's needs at all times? You're stuck with a stinkin' big chunk of GUI in your face blocking your screen, otherwise you'll actively have to look at their needs when you want to know. I'm not even going to bother talking about the toddler debacle, it's not worth mentioning because everyone knows all about that one already.

Lastly, in general, everything is spread really thin, there's less of everything and it really does hamper the enjoyment of gameplay, especially considering the hefty price tag, this is what is holding back build/buy/CAS mode (as well as the lack of Create-A-Style which was a terrible terrible idea). The complaints are pretty consistent from one player to the next and really this was what a lot of people had expected all along since EA refused to listen right through development. What's worse is that the game is already needing fixes, patches and updates, it is good that they are fixing them but after being in developement for so long there shouldn't be so many issues right off the bat.

After giving it a chanve for a few hours I can safely say that I won't be trying again until the pets expansion and tons of CC is out. That way maybe there'll be enough content and fixes and options to make this playable.

This is by far, the MOST DISAPPOINTING game of my life.
As a hardcore Sims 1, 2 and 3 player, I feel offended by this game.

This is just so bad that it doesn't even deserve a review.

At this point in the franchise you would expect that some of the features of previous expansions in the older games would have been folded into the base game of the Sims 4. Nope.

No vehicles, no pools, no toddlers, a tiny game world, create a style is gone for both objects and clothing, there aren't even damn firefighters or police.

This game was nothing more than an unfinished base platform which costs 10-20 dollars/pounds/euros/etc more than the usual cost of games. The intention here was simply to gut the fanbase with a dozen DLC/Expansions.

    Another franchise bites the dust.

This series hasn't had a great game since the sims 2, 3 always crashes for me and many others. Sims 4 is absolutely boring after the novelty wears off and I wasn't excited for it as much as 3, with all the missing features, it was rumoured to have been a scrapped online game concept and that would explain the lack of features. I sincerely hope that the sims 5 is incredible otherwise I will just be playing 2 and 3 into the 2020s, because besides open world that game was fun, full of content and perfect for its time. The sims 3 world graphics are waaaaay better than the sims 4s. Also the grass looks awful in 4. Very disappointed. I've been a fan from the beginning. :( the sims has no competition either so unfortunately EA's is the best game we get, and they ruined the sims 4. I now appreciate my previously somewhat disliked sims 3 game compared to 4. I had so much more fun with 1 than 4 despite the graphics, they took all the fun out of the game. I sincerely hope sims 5 is better, and of course there will be a sims 5, this series is just too successful and unique to give up on but I will give up if 5 is anything like 4. Thanks for reading. Essentially if you liked the play style of The Sims 2, you're more likely to enjoy this game — that would be me, since I didn't use the open world of The Sims 3 all that much except as a novelty, and I missed being able to switch back and forth between households just like save files. You just have to consider The Sims 4 as its OWN game (difficult, of course, since the name implies a direct progression), and adjust your expectations accordingly.

There are things that are really, really good — socializing in a group feels very natural, as does multitasking. I had a delightful moment where a Sim cooked himself food, then carried the plate past the dining table and into the study so he could sit, eat, and talk with another Sim who was playing video games. Build mode is also really fun.

Then there are things in the game that are very obviously cut corners (besides toddlers and pools). When you go to work, there's no carpool (one of the best parts of getting a promotion was seeing your new ride), you just walk to your mailbox and vanish. There are fires but no fire department, and no burglars or police. I would argue that the burglar has been a defining characteristic of the series, on the covers of boxes and whatnot, but now he's gone. There's no repairman; you have to fix everything yourself.

Furthermore, I feel as though the emphasis on short term emotions have firebombed attention to long term relationships. For instance, I experimented and had a Sim cheat on his spouse with a neighbor. No indication whatsoever that it was cheating — all the interactions and moodlets made it look like an adorable, budding new romance. There is no family tree, so generational lineage doesn't mean much.

If you can accept the game for what it is aiming for, you get a game that is pretty fun but that is also just clearly not done. I am really hoping that, like with SimCity, they release some free updates to add missing content before starting up the endless DLC machine.

Create a sim is a better experience than the one in sims 3 although no likes, zodiac signs or life wishes. Then you pick a house, first of all, the world is FLAT. No hospitals or schools. You have to load to a different screen every time you decide to go do something which is between a bar, lounge, gym and a museum. Fun, right? NO. I like the new multitask feature, along with the sims seeming more "life-like". But sims 3 wins with all of the creativity, raising a family is actually normal, you have cars, normal jobs and you feel like you're in a real world. I don't completely hate this game, but I didn't keep an interest in me. I'd much prefer The Sims 3 due to having much more things, besides the glitches (just suck it up and delete the custom content). The Sims 4 is way too boring and do not buy the premium version because it comes with party hats (yay?) and a tiki bar (I don't really need that). Because you barely party in the sims 4, including its hard to make friends. Also, you have tons of bars already in the game to select from so why do you need a tiki bar? I have no idea. Stick with The Sims 3, and if you do plan on wanting to play The Sims 4, wait until it gets somewhat cheaper and for EA to hopefully add in more features without paying (HIGHLY DOUBT IT). Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For realz? This game is so bad in comparison. Yes while the sims 3 had issues with compatibility, it seems like they had a new crew and decided to completely restart the image?

A new boss who thought he knew everything? Common I was so excited for the sims 4. I've already bought a lot of the other versions of the sims 3.

The game feels like the sims 1 with major improvements from the other games. They've improved the stylization of sims how to customize them their looks, and anything about them. MAXIS changed the personalities really well, I felt like the game STARTS like it will look out great. While they improved a lot of the issues that you spend a lot of time on the game itself removes the silly reasons why you play. Like you have 20 half sibling families and the structures get hectic and then you have to suddenly get 200 sims through college some are abducted and then some die and you end up with like 100 of them throughout the game you might end up with 50 and then the extended families of cousins eventually merge like 2nd cousins. It's weird, but it's mostly social experiments. It also shows you why in real society things are best kept as is->. Sometimes it's just the Katie Perry Music.

Now The sims 4 has basically the sims 1 esque loading screen less wait times. (I had 20 minute loading screens.) Yes that was annoying but when the game was working in sims 3 it was fun. Now in Sims 4 it's something like huh? Ok they're talking. I might put it down and go talk to some people like a normal non-creepy human. It's 3 no 4 steps forward 20 steps back. There's no swimming pools no swimwear, no reason for your sims to get buff.

Jobs are out. Who needs jobs?

THEY EVEN TOOK OUT Mac versions. Macs are way better in the sims because the game was based around Mac type games that's where Maxis' roots are Max/Mac Get it? Now EA stripped the title of everything. I feel the sims 5 will come out soon. No joke. The game should have the basic gameplay of sims 3. I now have to bootcamp to play the game. Not only did you basically make one fan base mad the modding community which is huge, you also took out anyone who had a MAC which is two strikes….

What the sims 4 did fix is the customization of some irritations of the fans that made it easier to create. However also in doing so defeated some of the challenges of creating homes and now it feels like a dollhouse game more then a social experiment. My brother became a architect because of the sims 1 and 2. And now it's just a click of a button. I feel that's the future of architecture anyway but this game seriously took out a lot of the issues while at the same time knocking out the purpose of learning how things are semi-built.
There's limited selection on colors, and they took out the user made creations because people would 'mod' the sims. There's hundreds of websites non-sim related because the sims series was so involved around creation. Without that they lost their fan-base. Buying sims downloads and options feels like a Facebook game. Like my friend Admiral Akbar would say "IT's a trap!"

I typically would try and remotely give this a nice score but they probably expected fans would like the new features at the expense of loosing 'some minor content' is a blatant lie almost false advertising. (but it's not because they said they would remove some things.) And the fact some of the city life structure and chaos of so many sims running around looses a lot of the entertainment value. It looses some of the hard parts of the game. These metacritics are being nice giving it a 70.

I had noticed that the color wheel was gone, along with toddlers, swimsuits, and a lot of the more creative aspects of the game. Although I figured the actual gameplay would be at least the same as TS3 was. I was very wrong. I completely understand how some people might like TS4. It is just like TS1 with nicer graphics. The problem with that though, is that I had become used to the new way of the sims. A few of the things I miss are Height distribution among age groups, going to an actual building for work, more than 10 choices for job opportunities, maternity leave, letting a fire spread through my house to kill my husbands(they made it auto extinguish), being able to jog to the park(they removed open world), story progression WAS SO AMAZING - it made me feel less alone, and now we're alone in this world by ourself, story sharing on the website which IS SO MISLEADING. Their website explains weirder stories? Okay well whats the use of making these stories if I can't share them with the world? They want us to connect our TS4 accounts with Facebook, but I live in a different world on the sims. They removed the family tree, pools are missing, there are barely any available housing lots. I am very upset with Electronic Arts for ruining the game which honestly helped me become who I am today. They molded TS4 into a game against us, by building a world where we fall in love with the sims, and are forced into paying money to give them bigger neighborhoods and better objects around them, Its sad. You can also buy Sims 4 headphones that actually have a color wheel (unlike the game), a Sims 4 mouse and a strategy guidebook. You can also opt for the collector's edition which ranges from $79.99 to over $100 depending on where you want to buy it. Those are some pretty steep prices for a game that lacks toddlers, llamas, color wheels, swimming pools and general intelligence. You can have an affair with everybody on the Sims 4 and no one cares. Firefighters and police have been removed from the game as well as family trees. The game is also becoming less tangible, more digital and the game seems more like the kind of game you would find on a mobile phone or an MMO. This game is a lower quality than it's predecessor the Sims 3 because it is missing many features and has less customization options. This whole game is just marketing research, it is just designed to be addicting and leave people unfilled so they will want to buy more. Don't even both trying out the sample or buying the game. This game sucked. EA took everything out and is going to make you buy it all again. For $80 I should have gotten everything or the ability to make anything and not have to buy expansion packs. I took it back and I won't be buying it again at a later date. Good riddens to bad rubbish. If you are thinking about buying it, don't save your money for other, better games.

I really wanted to love this game, but it just doesn't live up to its predecessors. Game play is slow, glitchy, and even less realistic than the Sims 3. This game is a shame. An epic fail. There is no fun in the gameplay. to childish this game is. the graphic did not improve at all after all these years. the only good part of the game is creating sims and houses.

I was so exited when I bought this. I couldn't wait to play. I installed. And opened it up. At first glance I thought wow. This looks great .. I loved the charcter building mode. but there was no design feature. Then bang! Disappointment. I am such a Hugh sims fan but I feel let down. There is a lot of features missing. Worlds are much smaller. You miss the toddler age step. No design features. Only plus side is. It's more realistic and the sims can do there normal day to day things and socialise at the same time. So upset with the lack of creativity that's gone into this game. Wouldn't recommend. Going to go back to sims 3 Expand

Another despicable release by EA, I think the current 1224 red vs 566 green user reviews show that gamers are fed up with these predatory "DLC" practices. Its gotten so sick with this company that now they are selling DLC FOR DLC. "DLC" shouldnt even be called "DLC" anymore it should be "CFM"..."Cut From Maingame". Crooks! Avoid EA like a plaque. Really, Im a fan of The SIms series. Ive been playing it for YEARS (1,2 & 3, all EPs) but THIS one has got to be the worst by far. for clarity's sake Ill make a list of why it deserves a round "0". This trash needs a warning people, and Ill consider this to be it. Use it or dont, up to you.

    1) the graphics are shockingly bad. Like a child's colouring in book. Its painful to look at.

    1) the graphics are shockingly bad. Like a child's colouring in book. Its painful to look at.
    2) excessive unnecessary loading screens. Seriously.. they put loading screens everywhere. This is so much worse than TS3 - loading screens are needed, perhaps, but they made it game breaking.
    3) no customization. Everything looks exactly the same. Like cheap plastic toys. Even the sims themselves. You get more customization from a lego set.
    4) exceptionally un-user friendly... just TRY and have two people play the game on one pc. wont even get into that dramabomb. ALso.. how to create new families while youre playing? Nope. you have to quit to the main menu.
    5) a crapton of bugs.. or maybe intended 'features'...like the fact that there is no option to add tattoos once a sim has been created already...or no change of last names when married. (both have to be done with a pretty severe cheat, which destroys family ties)
    6) sims exist as clones of exactly the same mold. They act the same, they all look the same, with slight tweaks here and there.

I can go on and on. really i can. But I wont. The sad thing is that I really really wanted to like this game. I even defended it.. give it time.. see if it grows on you.. and it does.. like a fungus. every day is just a trawl through CC sites looking for replacement textures and gameplay mods to actually make it playable.

The fun has well and truly been sucked out of the series.. this is a withered husk of its past glory.
Maybe Ill give it another go in a year or two.. but until then, ill stick to TS3.

SERIOUSLY... when DRAGON AGE INQs character creator kicks your life simulation;s ass in SO MANY WAYS.. its time to pull the plug. How can a game of THAT size and amazing splendor run so perfectly and look so amazing, but you cant get your game thats around 1/3 of its size (on disk space) run a second without a few loading screens all while it looks like plastic children's toys?

utter nonsense. move on for your own sanity and wallet. Rather go play TS 2 or 3. Its cheaper .. and a lot better,

Even more disappointing than the new SimCity. It's like they rebuilt the game for a $3 phone app and ported it to PC for $60. I shudder at the thought of EA scheming to charge us for a dishwasher as DLC.

I honestly have no idea how anyone who is a sims fan could write a good review of this game. I was that excited when it was announced that there would be a sims 4, I cant believe I wasted my time and my money. I am beyond disappointed. What the heck were they thinking? What on earth is going on with the camera angles? Its awful to play, its awful to navigate , all the things that made Sims so awesome are gone. Why am I travelling to go next door? I have literally spent hours on this game trying to just look at my bloody sim from a different angle other than above. it sucks. I would rather play sims 2 than spend another minute on this frustrating joke of a game. i feel really ripped off. sorry EA, but i wont be spending another cent on anything sims 4 related. Expand

While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

The Sims 4 is just a foundation of a game. How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
