There are two enormous problems with this.

First, the game is not free. Far from it. It is priced at the very top tier of AAA titles. Definitely a poor value for what you get.

Second, even if it were free, or priced more in line with the newly limited gameplay options, whatever content EA plans to sell further on down the road isn't available yet, leaving you stranded with half a game. I suspect the reason for this is that EA knows if they offered this inadequate experience with the option to immediately spend even more money on additional content, the backlash would be tremendous. We wouldn't put up with with it — nor should we, even if this strategy is barely veiled. That backlash should exist now in the form of not another sale.

There ARE elements to the Sims 4 that are good such as the emotion system and updated graphics from the Sims 3. Sims seem more alive and I have to be honest I did legit enjoy my first few days with it. But after the magic wore off, I started to get bored... REAL bored. Everything feels like its made out of cardboard. Yeah, pretty to look at but no substance there. I'm not in a town, I'm in a house with a picture of a town in the background. Those arnt cars going by, that's not a train rolling down the tracks, its just window dressing. its all fake and it does NOTHING. I also have to admit that I kept hearing certain sim fans saying that its not fair to compare the sims 4 to any sims 3 expansion because its a base game. To that I say I DO in fact compare many aspects of the sims 4 to every part of the sims 3 because I PAID for all that **** I spend hundreds of dollars on all those expansions over the years starting with the Sims 1 and I would at least expects a FEW things from previous expansions to be in 4 like weather, or pets, or anything else that I already paid Maxis for 3 times already. This game isn't a step forward, its not even a step sideways, its a giant step back. I give the Sims 4 a few points for entertaining me with what it did right but in the end, Its not worth it. Go play the Sims 3. Expand

I dislike also, the closed neighborhood. In neighborhood view you can only see a few buildings, not an entire town, so not many options there. You can only choose from 3 or 4 lots... travelling is a pain. you cant just go out now, there is a loading screen and you're not able to follow sim around town as we could in Sims3. And the lack of interaction! what is this about?? you cant collect bugs, examine plants, fish by clicking the water... or i haven't figure it out yet. First of all: Sims4 is not worth purchasing.

I thought I maybe should give it a go, but I was let down.

    Good things:
1.Creating a new Sim or family is quite easy to do, creating a sim is much faster now, you can be more precise and you can freely adjust body proportions by drag and drop.
2.Sims are now able to do multiple things at once. The second thing is talking 9/10
3.You can now give parties, even with multiple sims having birthday at once.
4.The new talents are also quite cool, although not that much different to sims3, except they often affect your mood and wishes, which appears quite often. Which leads me to mood.
5.The mood feature is pretty cool after all, it makes you want to use it, because it appears in the right situation and seems realistic. For example: You feel confident after you brush your teeth, then you go to another Sim and use: "confident pick-up line". If you succeed you will feel both, confident and coquettish, while one of them is always stronger. If brushing your teeth was the only action making you feel confident, you might be mainly coquettish now, what allows you to do specific flirty things.
This is basically the only thing which keeps you playing and the game fluent.
6.Emotions look real and are nicely animated.
7.Building your house is easy but not quite full filling.
    8.Cool new jobs.

Now the bad things. There are plenty's of them, I might forget some.
1.You can't define and precise colours of your clothes anymore
2.There are only two very small worlds.
3.Which despite being small have a loading screen for every single house and you have to travel by clicking your phone.
4.No dishwasher / not many objects you can purchase, especially a huge lack of games. Darts, balls, anything. Just a table to play cards on, music instruments, computer and chess.
5.No age step between baby and child.
6.Children don't feel childish, more like too little teens.
7.You can't see any stats, work progress, relation status or ANYTHING except the picture as long your Sim is at work.
    8.No pools.
9.Sims who you have any kind of progressed relationship with (mother, daughter, gf,bf, a.s.o) will try to visit you EVERYDAY and sometimes THRICE if you are not at home (because you are at work too, because your several other does not when you work), until you let them in. For every time you don't (because you don't quit working to come home and open the door), your relationship decreases.
10.Sims need to pee way too much and will often wake up because of that.
11.Babies are objects now, which are only able to lay in bed or be cuddled, but never let out.
12.If you don't pay attention while cooking you will miss the cake for your birthday after work, because you need to bake it and can't purchase one.
13.Parties start immediately, no matter which state of needs, mood, time, or being at work. Parties at the bar will likely be flops, because the entertainer has no piano (no one told you he needs one before of course) and if you did not bring a cake (to blow out the candles is your main goal in the party "mission") because you did not know it start immediately... well you won`t get any, not by any chance and you will load being very frustrated.
14."Make love" option tends to disappear and you have to click the bed like S2.
15.Sims switch chairs and run around like having AD HS.
16.You still can't ask Sims about their age. (I know you don`t ask women for their age but pls... I married a young looking woman, married her and 4 days later, one day after giving birth to my son she grew a senior. My Sim wants to make 10 babies, hard with an old lady like her. At least she has a daughter...)
    17.No ghosts.
    18.No environmental events/activities
    19.Not a single dlc of Sims3 found it's way into vanilla Sims4
20.You feel robbed and betrayed all the time. You will feel like: "I bet this will come with a dlc", or "Really? No dishwasher?" 9/10 Minutes.

Pls don't buy this game. If it was tagged with 20€ I would recommend it, but for this retail price and as member of a progressed Sims-Series, it should have been so much better.
    I hope this was helpful.

Thats it!! End of the story...

why the hell they downgrade to closed world anyway? i am trying to figure it out and got assumption: EA want to back again to sims 2 because in some review, people always compare sims 3 to sims 2 and said "Sims 2 are better than sims 3 blablabla..." But it just my assumption.

i am sure 99% i don't need to buy sims 4 expansion. What the hell they want to sell anymore: Astrology sign? color wheel? toddler? woohoo technique? amusement park? weather? new skill? new job? life stage? NOT INTERESTING!

I want to jump to the sims 5, if EA open registration for sims 5 now, i am ready on the list!

i actually want to score it 0, but i kindly think EA work hard for this game and deserve more than that. Well maybe you can get better score for sims 2 fans... Just saying...

Horribly disappointed. They took pretty much all of the good features from the sims 3 base game, and threw them away in favor of the exact opposites. That feature alone, missing from the sims 4, is a huge loss for me. The game is basically The sims 2, with update graphics, and emotions.

Also, for everyone exclaiming over multi-tasking, and mod support?

The sims 3 had both of those.

In the end, this game was a failure. I'm not sure what maxis was thinking this time, but they have failed me, and every single sims fan out there. I am completely disappointed. I'll be sticking with The sims 3, and the expansions I own, and hope that the sims 5 is actually worth playing.

Funny thing about this game. They stuffed it up that much that when I took it back to EB games for a refund. I Returned home to delete it and accidently double clicked it and the game started playing. So you don't need the disc to play The Sims 4. Not that I'll be playing it anyways. I'd rather play The Sims 1. but I've resorted back to The Sims 3 :)

The effect would be that you're playing a good game, but it's so bare bones that it can't possibly be considered a complete game.

Sims 4 takes this one step further. This "game" is quite literally a barebone skeleton of a game that is frankly nothing to write home about until the 1000 DLCs come out and flesh it out. Which, of course, means this will ultimately be a £200+ game.

Is it worth that outlay? It;s impossible to tell, but just going on the skeleton we have available to play, the answer is a resounding no. Why? Because this game is a shinier version of Sims 3, with added loaded screens. So why not just buy Sims 3 with all the DLC for not much more than the base game of Sims 4 costs? Hell, why not buy Sims 2, which again is a superior title for a few quid?

The emotion system in Sims 4 adds something different I guess, but it's not a good enough reason to justify the outlay or the time you'll invest in the title. That aside, nothing is better here than its' predecessors.

I'm not an EA hater. If they get something right, I'll praise them for it. But this title is everything EA is criticised for in a nutshell - DLC by the boatload, not much else.

And please can game reviewers at apparently reputable websites stop giving ridiculous scores to AAA titles to appease their paymasters? It's cynical and worrying as you are conning people into turning over hard cash on sub-par titles. Just stop it.

The Sims 4 has no expansions yet so its being compared to the Sims 3 with all its extra content. So its not going to look good.
Fact is though, compared to the Sims 3 without any expansions, the Sims 4 does not have much of anything, the maps may be designed to improve performance but they have cut back too far, you can see your neighbors house, but if you want to visit it, there is a loading screen to deal with and if you switch between your Sims whilst one is out, there is a bug that stops your Sim entering your front door. I found my self actually bored, the game seems to be Eat Sleep and **** and little else. Sure the emotions are funny and the character creation is interesting. But the UI it self scatters everything all over the screen, its not all in one place anymore so you spend the first hour wondering where everything is and the rest of your life cursing the design decision that put everything in each corner of the screen. Also the Sims look pretty dated, this is not much of an upgrade over the Sims 3 from a graphics perspective, in fact it may even be a step back once you get over the new hair and stuff. The game is very slick and polished when you go to town and find only 4 buildings you can enter and there is loading screen between each of those, you more or less get the idea that the Sims 4 has a bad case of anorexia, which for £50 for the standard game, makes it one of the biggest rip offs on sale today. EA being the holder of most of these rip off records. Having said that, if your willing to throw money at EA I am absolutely positive they will solve all these problems with a whole series of grossly over priced expansions.

There are so many things that I dislike about this game! I am an AVID sims player, and have played since the sims 1 first came out. I literally play every day. EVERY DAY. That being said, this game is a giant bucket of poop. For $70 (more than any other sims game) I expected so much more.

One thing that I heard was rumors about them FINALLY adding was a height adjustment tool in CAS.

One thing that I heard was rumors about them FINALLY adding was a height adjustment tool in CAS. This has been an extremely annoying aspect ever since I can remember. It bothers me so much when my female sims are larger than males.... which every female is in the sims 4 so far, regardless of their weight.

I did enjoy the new features of CAS, but once I got started with the gameplay, I was extremely disappointed. I've only played for a few days, and I feel like I have done everything possible in the game. Things like careers and the travel remind me of the sims 2, which is a huge bummer. The babies SUCK, and remind me of the sims 1... because they are objects that you can only interact with through the crib.

My favorite part of the sims has always been the building and customizing. This is virtually gone, just as in the sims 2. Create a style was the best part of the build/buy mode on TS3, and they took that away too (classic EA). There are basically 3 style options: mission, victorian, and modern. You want different styles for different households? Too bad.

The emotions are basically the same thing as the moodlets from the sims 3, except for the special social interactions. I was intrigued at first, but the emotions just got annoying after about an hour of playing. Emotions are not why people play the sims.... It just isn't. Also, the fact that you can walk up to your partner in ANY mood and still WooHoo out of nowhere is completely unrealistic.

Another thing that I hate is the lack of diversity in terms of how to kill your sim. My sim died from embarrassment after peeing herself.... I mean, really?

I could go on for days about the list of objects missing from the sims 3, but that would be a waste of time. I can't wait to spend hundreds of dollars on DLC.... Don't waste your money (at least not until there are expansion packs).

If EA wanted a bland tablet version of The Sims then it should have been honest and released it as such. Rehashing The Sims 2's insular format and regurgitating the game with most of the content stripped might be OK for an iPhone version costing a few bucks. To show us just how much it cares about quality art, the company has threatened that there won't be a Sims 5 if enough people don't fork over cash for this sad excuse for a game. We can only hope they'll follow through on their threat!

And, as for some of the "critics'" reviews... two-three paragraphs of utter vapidity in a large typeface does not a credible professional review make. I love how cruddy titles like this get their ratings inflated by such puff pieces. And, the fluffiest most superficial one of them all won't even let anyone leave comments unless they're apparently part of some special little forum community. How... adorable. I registered for their site and it wouldn't even let me post a comment to the "review".

The Sims 3 was barely enough of a change to warrant releasing it and this game positively absolutely fails to do anything other than offer a cheesy "emotion pack" that could have easily have been added to the previous title. The horridly bland corporate look of the Sims themselves is to be expected. Clearly, the blandness of SimCity 5 had to carry over. But, the utter barrenness of this "game" (really just a portal for DLCs), given its high price and the track record of EA in terms of the franchise and the SimCity franchise, must be some sort of new IQ test.

F... not for anything but farce.

The problem EA is facing is that people are sick of starting over with features every time a new Sims game comes out. Why pay $20-$30 per expansion 6-7x just to get all the content you already had in the previous iterations.

It's time to innovate EA, stop milking the franchise.

It looks like it could be a great game but it's buggy, crashes a lot, and there seems to be less content than in the previous one. For now, Create-a-Sim is the only commendable thing in the game. Maybe if I manage to keep it running for more than five minutes, it will even be fun. There is one improvement, though, and that's why it got a "2": it loads faster than the third installment. Way faster.

This game is best Sim game BUT if they bring at least 10 expansion. I hate this marketing strategy. Sell core game with lowest content as possible and force people to buy expansions. Company think profit yes i know but this sale strategy is un ethical so i support crackers for this kind of strategy.

My score is 1 not for Sims game but for company's bad behaviour.

I am love playing the Sime since the first one, and usually a new version of the game is full of new things, with big changes. But here, the new things aren't that many, just like better graphism, emotions (which isn't that new, just an imporvment), and a new interface (which is actually great when you get used to it !).

No more fire, no pool, no toddlers, no repairer, no police and thiefs, no car, no more open world (!!)...etc

They said it was because they were too busy coding a new engine. Yeah, bad excuse, everybody know what you want to do ! If you wanted to add pools for exempl, it wouldn't have been that difficult !
I'm surprised to see that critic reviews are actually good about this game....

I'm almost expecting EA putting in soon real cash store where you can buy game money in bulk to get all the instant shower, bladder etc... potions.

EA, latest Simcity was disaster and latest Sims also. You seem to be on the path to destroy everything you do with "fantastic" new streamlining. Heck, Sims 2 was better with all the options we got in it.

Only reason I gave a 1 was the graphics (on ultra mode) are improved. However, NO pools, NO toddlers, NO MORE FREE ROAMING AROUND THE TOWN!! You can not follow them to work anymore. Every place you go you have to sit through a loading screen. Even walking across the street to the neighbors house you have to wait 3-4 minutes which may not seem like a lot but since they were previously able to roam freely with no loading screen it makes a BIG difference! Create a sim had nice features but it doesn't make up for ZERO GAME PLAY! The new interactions with sims are LAME! Tell joke about monkeys? Joke about mimes? Come on EA, we've seen you do better!! Thoroughly disappointed by this game. Do not listen to the critic rating, listen to the users! Step back to make progress my A**! There's NOTHING to do anymore! Yeh so i just got this game, installed it a played it annnnd i hated it and i love the Sims franchise i have Sims 1 through to Sims 3 with all expansion packs, and to put it simply, i hate the new Sims they look more unrealistic then they did in 3 and the create a Sim is much more difficult than it should be, i much prefer the sliders like the previous games.Build mode is confusing, boring and difficult to use, your very limited in what actions you can do compared to Sims 3. I much prefer having build mode and buy mode separate. The products they have to put in your home are lacking as i miss cars, garages, laundry, ect. I also miss pools, lakes and the toddler age group, being able to pick 5 traits plus a star sign and lots of different life goals. The maps are highly limited and boring, no good lots, and nothing really that interesting in the towns at all. There's no ghosts no good graves and no free movement within the towns community . like i said i love the Sims but in my opinion they have really screwed up this time, this game is a waste of money. There is nothing good of fun about this game anymore i think i will stick with playing Sims 3, even if it freezes some time its still a much more fun, interesting and engaging game than Sims 4. After a very annoying day-one update (I live in South-Africa where the internet sucks) I finally launched the game. I was thrown into the create a sim, and realized right there. This game is not Sims. Where is the realism in the look of hair? Where was the intuitive creation mode? I had fun figuring out the creation process and was finally done.

Then I had to pick a house. WTF? Where is the town? A few little houses and a bar and gym? Where is the town hall? Where is the police station? Where is the game I paid for? Not only is the town tiny, suddenly there is a load screen while 'Travelling' and the open-world is gone. The content is pathetic and the customization of item colours is basic.

Overall, this feels like a skeleton of a game that will force people too spend hundreds on expansions. EA you greedy bastards. This was the only money I will spend on Sims 4. From here on out, I will pirate the game! This is the reward I get for spending R700 on this game? I encourage everyone to pirate this game because EA needs to learn that the people that buy games, won't pay for a skeleton and then keep paying to bulk it out.

While I understand that they were trying to broaden their customer base, what they fail to realize is that fans of the game will actually seek to upgrade their computer so they can play the game. Now what they have done is created a game that is far behind the times. No Sims game is expected to be a graphic masterpiece, however this game is not even average. The Sims 3 came out over 5 years ago and at the time it was definitely above average as far as the look of the game goes and it still isn't bad today. The Sims 4 isn't good now, what will it be like in 5 years?

In their crusade to make the game be less demanding of the computer, Maxis stripped down many of the best features of The Sims 3 including the open world which gave the town a much more life-like feel. Many other features have been taken away as well and you can find many lists of them if you search the internet.

Ultimately, this game feels like something that was made for a tablet, not for a computer. While for a tablet the game would be good, as a consumer you're paying for a computer game and should be able to expect the type of quality we associate with computer games.

Pretty sure that EA has already prepared a loooooot of content already ready to be released if you,re proned to pay 25$ in order to have a swimming pool, a baby, a car (25$ for each item don't be so naive). As opposed to gameplay, this game has taken a definate setback. They slightly improved the graphics (yay I guess?) while removing access to the entire game without loading screens. This really ticked me off. The idea of bringing out a new game to a franchise isn't to just slap an extra number on there and to strip most of it's features. You're supposed to have a HOOK! Something newthat people can grab on to to make ther game new and exciting. This game did not supply that. I felt like I was playing The Sims 3 with a lot of removed features. I don't know what was going through EA's/Maxis's mind when they thought the next intallation of The Sims was going to be a success. I can't imagine how bad the gaming industry will become if EA doesn't exist in this world. For starters, EA is currently one of the best simulation developers in the world, and in general it is the leader in trends of development of various games around the world.

Sim City has already drawn so much attention and become a legend of simulation games in modern era. Today, another legend has born, which is this wonderful game.

Sims 4 has significant improvement over its predecessor. It has an improved UI, which is more user friendly. Its graphic is superb and oustanding. On a technical side, the optimization is perfect, the game is running extremely smoothly. The game play elements also bring the simulation of life to a new level. It has a lot of elements added, and offers a great variety of game play choices for players. Also, it is very realistic, which is an outstanding life simulator.

All in all, the game has a lot of innovative and creative improvement, which is a must-have for all fans of simulation.

I am already looking forwards for more DLCs to come. Please do not release expansions again like the old-days, as this takes too much time for development. Fans want new contents as soon as possible. Developers, please try to release more and more DLCs on a weekly, or if possible, on a daily basis. Fans are eager to pay for more FUN! ;)

First I will say I had always been a Sims fan. I've played them all. I even bought Sims 2 and 3 the day they had come out. I played them for hours and hours on end, rarely ever getting bored.

The first hour of me playing Sims 4, I already had become so bored with it and left feeling completely disappointed. I was looking forward to the game, ever since it had first been announced them making a 4th installment to the Sims.

Ever since Sims 2 had come out, my favorite aspect has always been toddlers. I loved having my female sims get pregnant and raising their babies. I loved the family side of the game. Actually, just a month ago I was explaining to my husband about the Sims games and how far they had come with it, explaining how silly the infants were in Sims 1. Then what do I find out they did with Sims 4? They made the babies like Sims 1! Right when I thought I couldn't have been more disappointed with Sims 4, I learned about the downgraded infants...then right after I find out about the toddler cut. I love the toddlers as many people do. I can understand some people not liking the toddler stage in Sims, but EA could have made that more flexible in Sims 4 by being able to remove the toddler stage.. perhaps near where you can turn off aging? They had some nerve taking out toddlers altogether!

Another favorite aspect of mine in Sims 3 (which Sims 4 does not have) is story progression. In Sims 3, I loved creating a family, sticking them in a house, then forgetting about them as I played another household and then checking what the family I forgot about was up to, if the original couple I made got a divorce, if they had kids, what jobs they ended up getting, ect.

The load time SUCKS. I know the load time isn't long, but it still sucks. It's just another thing to make Sims 4 feel so much more limited than Sims 3. (Keep in mind, I remember Sims 3 vanilla days as I bought it when it first came out). I miss the open world in Sims 3!

I also don't like that they took out the style and color table tools.

Now the couple things I did like...

I liked what they did with create a sim. It was a bit awkward at first compared to what I was use to with Sims, but once I started to play with it, it grew on me. Again, the only thing I find it lacking is the style/color tools. Overall, I still had fun creating my sims.

The build mode was nice, I do love what they did with it. It still wasn't enough to win me over (none of it was) as I've always been okay with the building aspect of Sims 3.

I also love how much the Sims multi-task compared to any other Sims game.

That's really the only positive things I have to say about Sims 4... and I would have rather have paid to have the features I did like, into my Sims 3 because I won't be playing the Sims 4... not unless EA find a way to make up for this crappy game by giving us the features we miss!

I don't know how they will ever be able to give us open worlds again. Maybe when they make new neighborhoods, they can make some of them be like the open neighborhoods... but I won't count on it.

The Sims 4 is more like Sims 1 and 2 combo with a couple cool features, but not enough cool features to keep you in the groove when playing.

I hate to say it, but you really screwed up EA! I sure hope you find a way to fix this. If not, I will just keep continuing to play The Sims 3 which I'm more than fine with. I still have a blast when playing Sims 3, unlike I do with SIms 4.

When the game started, it was all white... everything was different. I was like : oh nice, this is new. Then I created my Sim and finally started to play... my first thought was : man this look exactly like the Sims 2. The graphics are awful and I run in Ultra mode. It is just like in the past! And then, I was like : well, emotions must be pretty nice... but after some time, I realized that it was nothing new. We already had it in the Sims 3, but under another name. It was the mood. Not this detailed, but still the same thing. When the Sim was it a bad mood, it was impossible to make it do something, just like the Sims 4.

I really don't like this game. The waiting time when you change lot are awful. What is that? WHY? I had all expansions of the Sims 3 on my laptop and It was as fast as the empty Sims 4... I think that the bare bones of the game is given with the initial release so that you have to purchase the expansion packs that are to come, which will have more options of course. Very disappointed with the fact that you have to load between neighborhoods, something that they probably wont change.

The sims 2 added in many great expansions, and then they were all added in a second time, with some new ones (because there was less content than the sims 2 base game), and some of the good old ones never returned, now we will see these same ideas again in 60 dollar expansion packs and some new DLC that was sims 3 base game, and a few of the nice sims 3 expansions will never be seen again.
Not to mention the awkward new building system and the generally ugly furniture lacking in variety and numbers, and the removal of cars and babies is just salt in the wound.

After being an avid Sims fan since The Sims 1, I must say I am absolutely gutted at how poor this game is.
This is nowhere near worth the £38 I paid for it ~ There's no swimming pools, no toddlers, it seems extremely basic.
The graphics, fair enough, are amazing and I am impressed at the shadows and lighting in the environment BUT I am angry at what I saw at the edge of the "precinct"

The graphics, fair enough, are amazing and I am impressed at the shadows and lighting in the environment BUT I am angry at what I saw at the edge of the "precinct" where my house is - there's what seems to be cardboard cutouts of trees and the depth of field blur is disgusting.

As with the previous sims games, I can usually play for 6-8 hours straight daily and get easily addicted and involved but this there was nothing. I feel let down.
The Sims 3 was my favorite of the whole franchise and I was expecting a huge step up from that but it's gone back - way back, if not WORSE than sims 1/2.

You create a sim, with basic, ugly clothing and plastic looking hair/skin. You are then faced with this vile interface which is the "neighborhood/world" it felt like a mobile phone games interface...
You then move into your plot and build using only basic furniture (which may i add you can only choose form a handful of colors - no more CASt).
You then go into live mode. You keep their needs in the green and let them do their thing...
I felt I had no purpose anymore. It was repetitive and boring.

I WILL be going back to the sims 3 unless EA decide to up their game and fix this abomination that they call a sims game. If I find out they don't even TRY to improve things, I will never give them my money ever again.

    RIP The Sims Franchise!

Another let down from EA. Sims 4 lacks in content which will be sure given to you by infamous DLCs that EA likes to take your money with. Freedom and options are taken away from you with this game and Sims 3 was so much better compared to this.

Outcome: Do NOT buy this game before they have fixed everything.

I have played sims since the very beginning and saw great improvements from 1 to 2 and from 2 to three with 4 I feel like I am back to one. Sure the Sims are more lifelike, but everything that made the game so great in 2 and 3 is gone.

I keep thinking of going back to playing Sims 3, I feel so cheated that I have been unable to do so. It is really sad.

In sims 3 you could roam the entire world freely. Go places, knock on other people's doors, and go to community events posted in the news papers, take classes etc. Sims 4 has none of that. I liked Sims 3 because you were always meeting new people randomly as you went through the worlds and it was never hard to socialize or make friends. Sims 4 it is hard to socialize and much time is wasted trying to do so. Sims 4 world is small with like three places to go and little room to build your own community lots. When you want to go somewhere, its like Sims 1 all over again, going to the load screen and then picking a place you can't do anything in. In Sims 3 when you had a child the child turned out depending on how you treat it as a baby and toddler. In Sims 4 the baby can be aged up as soon as you have it no toddlers. I will say that in Sims 3 the baby and toddler seem longed, by they could have just shortened it as oppose to getting ride of it all together. Even if they come out with really good expansion packs I do not see how this game can be saved. They should have started from Sims 3 and went up from there. I am not even sure if this is better than Sims 2. The interactions are better, I guess and that is about it. But you are confined to your house, I did not see any cars you can buy. And if you want to go to somewhere else then you have to wait until the games loads. I am sorry, but I fail to see the improvements from Sims 3. I mean the graphic are better and you can make a more detailed sim, but I rather have better game play that those things. What a waste. Expand

Certain things like pools and ghosts were eventually added back into the game free of charge, but the attitudes of the Sims Team after they did so was so unattractive and unlikable that it turned me off to the game even more. They acted like they were going out of their way to give these "free" things to paying customers, when in reality those were things that should have been in the base game to begin with.
And now the game is being over-saturated with constant "game-packs" that offer little content, even for only 10 USD, and a half-baked work expansion was released earlier this year that both everyone wanted, yet offered only three new interactive jobs. And lets be real here, how many times are you going to play through each job? Once? Twice maybe? And, again, there are only three new jobs so people ran out of things to do with that expansion after a few weeks.
Everything about the current direction that the Sims seemed half-assed to me. I, along with many other fans, feel like there is no connection to the game, no connection to the creators, no passion. It's a mess. It's superficial and lacking content even after a YEAR. I doubt Sims 4 lifespan will be four-five years like previous sims games. Hopefully a Sims 5 will come out, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Sims team is bleeding money at this point and can't afford to make a Sims 5 in the future.

The lack of creativity, the endless key features removed (including Create A Style, Toddlers, Family Trees, Swimming Pools, Open World, Carpools, just a TINY example), the focus on "weird" Sims, after just an hours play I feel alienated. Normal job options are no longer available (Medical, Business, Education etc.) and are replaced with downright ludicrous alternatives such as Villian, Comedian, Secret Agent and Tech Guru.

It's okay though, because EA will make up for it by continuously lying to you all and charge you a further $400 or so for a complete game in the form of DLC and Expansion Packs.

At least my copy can returned, and I can return to The Sims 2, the last time I felt they really cared about what should be this great franchise.

When Sims 3 came out, I found it very similar to Sims 2, but with am open world which was really nice. The time system was bugged and a lot of other things too, but the graphics were better, the customization were amazing and it has everything I needed to build wonderful houses (which I do mostly with the Sims) and play in a realistic world (more or less).

Over the time Sims 3 was getting less buggy and with the Addons there came nearly everything I wished for (and a lot I would rather not have like fairies and sparkling vampires). I only missed to have a own shop like in the Sims 2. But when buying a lot of DLCs (like hairs, cloth etc.) and the Addon the engine was put to the ground and in the end (maybe it was strategic from EA) it didn't make any fun anymore, because there was no fluent gaming possible even with my high end PC.

So instead of creating an engine with could handle an Open World with a lot of items and characters, Maxis proofed again, after SimCity, that they are not talented programmers.
Sims 4 is a step back to Sims 2, meaning limited to a single active lot with loading screens if you want to change the lot. There are no rabbit holes anymore and the Sims disappear if they go to work etc. (Even Sims 2 had them)...
A lot of items which were basic even in Sims 1 are missing, like the dish washer, pools and even toddlers.
It is very funny (unintentionally I guess) the lack of difference between the ages in Sims 4.
When getting older from Teen to Young Adult to Adult to Old Adult, only a very little changes are mad to the figure (like getting a little bit fatter and shoulders going down) and the textures changes a bit. But there is no more different highs or really visual signs of the age.
Besides from that the Create a Sim is much better than in the Sims 3 - unmodified that is. With mods nearly all the new options were possible in Sims 3.
The Camera is a mess, but you can change it back to Sims 3 style. If you aren't fluent in the short cuts you gonna have a hard time with Sims 4. The placement of the different tools ind build mode (like the demolition tool) is horrible. The hole interface is horrible. You can filter everything and search for a special item. But you have to filter everything and search for it to find anything. All the items are based on the room you building right now (like Bathroom, Living-room etc.) and not after the base of the times like in Sims 1,2,3. So if you want to buy a roof lamp you have to look through every room if you have bad luck until you find it, or search for the name or lamp. But it will get really annoying if you have to use the keyboard for every item...
If you finally found the item, you have only have a very few colors to choose from. The beautiful customization tool (Create a Style) from Sims 3 is not there anymore.
The Colors look not even realistic. The hole Engine does not look realistic anymore. Everything, starting at the traits over the look to the animations, are looking like an after noon kids show.
Even the normal careers are gone. You can now become a Secret Agent or a Tech Guru... Very nice.

Sims 4 is all about Emotions and multitasking, EA and Maxis said.
The Emotions are nice, a bit comical but that is intended. They are nice. But not more than that. I will not miss them that much if I play Sims 3 again.
The multitasking could be really awesome but is unrealistic implemented. They will multitask everything, ever. If you say: Talk to this guy, the Sim will sit somewhere an talk. They will not just talk. They have to multitask all the time. Even when saying hello they will first sit down somewhere.
Ea said something about intelligence but the Sims have been and are in the Sims 4 plain dumb. They will not care about someone dying right in front of them if they are hungry. They will not care about anything if they are sleepy and so on.

I didn't spend that much time with the game to be honest, because it was so annoying and disappointing, maybe I missed the charm of the game because of that. But as a fan of the series for a long time I come to the conclusion: Don't buy this game! And there will be micro-transactions (buy a city, hair etc.), little DLCs every quarter-, and an addon similar to Sims 1,2,3 (you could see it in Sims 3: They made nearly the same addons like in Sims 2) to get the last out of this piece of garbage.

Maybe in one year it will fun to play, right now it is not.
Stay with the base Sims 3 or even Sims 2. It is much better than this game.

No one should ever have to pay for stuff in-game after spending $70-$80 on the game itself. The graphics, fine, they're pretty good and very Sims-style graphics. But the gameplay is no different and you pretty much have to buy DLCs to actually play it properly - what happened to having community made content for free like in The Sims 1? Expand

EA are absolute disgraces. Do not buy an EA game, do everything you can to make sure they don't get your hard earned money. Sims 4, yet another unfinished game they've released with the whole purpose of people purchasing DLC.

Don't waste your money on this 59.99 USD mobile quality game. It DID some improvement like UI, faster loading, but the cost of the improvement is too huge they cut so many features from The Sims 3 vanilla. The cut features can be easily found from Google, please check out before you buy it!

I'm probably the unusual customer who tried sim3 and didnt like it at all and yet decided to try sim4 and see if it was better. It might be as good as a clean no DLC sim3 but if you didnt like sim3 id say there is no almost no chance you will like sims4 its basically the same game.

It does have the youth potion in it that lets you extend a sims lifespan so it can achieve the hard to reach goal you set for it before it dies. used to have that in sims3 that my sims died before i reached my goal but unlocking the youth potions is a very time consuming minigame that takes you out of immersion.

Compared to Sims 3 this game is basically missing everything that made its prequel good. And the list is too long to even remember and too long to write down expecting others to read. After I had thus assured myself that Sims 4 was trash I tried a cracked copy (And I am not ashamed. EA deserves no support for crap like Sims 4 from anybody.) and rage quit/uninstalled after about 20 minutes, if it was even that long. Creating a sim was OK, but then the actual game started and by Helm it is bad!
All I can say is that people who prepurchased this turkey are the real problem, not EA. They are the ones keeping companies like this alive and still able to prey on the consumer. If everyone would do what I do EA would either go out of business (Good riddance btw) or it would have to change its ways and offer quality and value for money when people buy their games. And no, not 400$ worth of heroin pump DLC releases, 12 expansions and 1500 patches later, but the base game you buy in the box. If that isn`t good you should go out of business. And Sims 4 is about as bad as it gets.

PS: I love how the corrupt game reviewers (Who are undoubtedly getting bribes from EA.) are scoring this calamity of a game in the 70s while the actual customers are below 4 across the board. It actually deserves the big, fat zero I am just now going to give it.

Don't trust any review that rates this game over a 5. This game, and the reboot of Sim City represent the dying days of EA and Maxis. I didn't think it was possible for the old EA games to be better than the new releases, but that is the case. EA did very little to update the Sims. The newest Sim City is a trainwreck, with very small towns that have less area than the original sim city.

I remember The Sims and The Sims 2, every expansion pack was an event that I couldn't wait to happen, I wanted to see all the content and interactions. At the beginning of The Sims 3 it was quite the same, until EA carried with them all the expectations, but I assumed it was because of me more than because of EA, because I was growing and all, so when The Sims 4 was announced I didn't care. I wanted it to happen, but not with the same expectations as The Sims 2 or The Sims 3. What happened? My sister went to the creator's camp, and came back with so much enthusiasm that caught me right away. The game was released and I bought it immediately. The Sims 4 Digital Deluxe costed me 45 dollars. It was incredible, but you sit down to play and you see that bit by bit you get more bored. Then the expansion packs, stuff packs and new game packs began to be announced and released. It was no big deal with Outdoor Retreat or Get to Work, they were not bad, but then you sit down to play Get to Work and you get bored easily and you can see so many bugs. After that the beautiful idea of the stuff packs started. Luxury Party was unnecessary, we already had a bunch of party stuff in many of the base game editions. Perfect Patio is a bit better because the stuff, although it's a small amount, it's a better quality. Then EA released Spa Day, that is a game pack and in general terms, it's ok. Cool Kitchen is that expansion pack that never had to be released. The 20 different ice cream topics are no more than different colors. When it was released you couldn't put the ice cream in the fridge (giant WTF), and the fact that every spoon of ice cream they eat they complain that they brain freezes is inadmissible. Get Together is a little bit of parties (mooore parties), the clubs and nothing more. Spooky, Movie Hangout and Romantic Garden: the packs that I didn't know that existed until this March. In only almost 2 years they released 6 stuff packs, I bought 3 of them, and only one is good. If someone asks me "Is it good to buy The Sims 4?" I will tell them that they should, because the base game is still ok, but not to buy all of the expansion packs. Because besides, they added an unnecessary and annoying button that appears out of nowhere only to make you remember that you don't have all the packs. Be selective, don't buy everything just to have anything. Do you really need Cool Kitchen or Get Together? Outdoor Retreat: Did you enjoy Vacation, Bon Voyage or World Adventures? Then buy it. Anyways, I can decide for you. I only recommend you that, because if you buy all the packs you will see all the money you lost in a good for nothing pack, and I hope EA does something good, because they are doing almost everything wrong with the game. I have been a dedicated fan since the beginning. When the news of a new Sims base game released, I was so excited I think I peed. Sims 4 was advertised as a step forward and a new outlook on the way we play RPG games in its entirety. Sims 4 was advertised as a step forward and a new outlook on the way we play RPG games in its entirety. The day I downloaded it I sat down at my computer with a bag of Starbursts ready not to see sunlight for the next three days. After 10 hours of game play and counting, I can confidently say that I am not impressed. Creating my Sim was very basic. It was not what it was all cracked up to be. The facial sliders were amazing and being able to click on your Sim is unique. Although the creativity was ultimately stripped from my fingers. With no creative tools and horrendous eye lashes my Sim looked like a slight twin of Iggy Azalea. Managing the highlights of your hair, length of your eyelashes and even the personalization of your eye shadow has been taken out and left true style completely basic. With only three traits, a feminine walk, and a Wealthy Ambition, I decided to make my house. As I started editing my starter home I noticed right off the bat it was extremely hard to navigate and get a diagonal view into the house, it was only a vertical or horizontal view, no in-between. Again I have noticed there as no create a design tool. There is only standard selections to choose from, which isn't all that bad because I have really noticed the modernity of the designs. I feel like EA stepped up and made their interior designs not so 90's. The game played smooth an after i designed my tiny modern home I began to play. I thought that the Sim emotions are incredible! One of the best add-ons I have ever seen on an RPG game. The emotions really make a difference in playing and I honestly think it's what keeps me playing. Being able to take an angry poop when clicking on the toilet is comedy you can't get enough of. I also love being able to paint emotional art pieces and writing emotional books. It makes the game play a lot more spontaneous and exciting.

In its entirety I do believe Sims needs more improvements as a game. I can live without toddlers and pools, but who can ever live with those ungodly eyelashes and not being able to personalize our clothes into a zebra jumpsuit. If EA is planning on making an update I do recommend them listening to their forever true customers and correct their wrongs. The whole aspect of the Sims culture to us is to create a world we want to live in. I don't want to live in a basic world.

A base game should be fun and enjoyable and not feel so empty and lacking and not need eps that end up costing a lot. And because of being so bland I wont be spending another $ on Sims 4 and I worked out all EP's game and stuff packs bought at full price cost $910AUD total. I could buy so many good complete games for that price.

A EP should enhance and add to the game play not make the game feel boring and unplayable without it.

I bought sims 3 Ep's most at full price and didn't mind as I enjoy the game so much.

The only good thing is the game doesn't crash at all.

I wanted black curtains for my emo sim but nope that is not an option, it's so limited I can't make and decorate the house the way I want. And you can't play multiple sims efficiently. I wanted to have 1 sim stay at home and write books while I sent the other sim off to make friends. But nope when you go somewhere else the sims at home stop doing what you assigned them to do and are instead wasting time watching TV.

You have to keep your sims all together to be able to control them all.

So many steps back. There is so much I miss from Sims 3, the open world, CAS, vehicles, horses being able to control multiple sims at different locations at the same time, story progression.

    Never played the first sims.

    Sims 2 was alright.

Still absolutely love sims 3 and it's the only one worth playing and bought every EP for it. And will still keep playing it.

Sims 4 is not even as good as sims 2 and will not buy any more ep's for it as it's not going to change what I hate about it. Not going to play it again.

Terrible money grabbing game that is not fun and so much content needed to buy that should be in the game already. It doesn't even deserve a 1.

First SimCity and now this. Well done, EA..... Way to ruin two of the most successful video game series of all time. Missing features and a fatally restrictive ingame world are becoming hallmarks of EA's new releases. It's one flop after another, and they don't care because they know they'll make money regardless.... EA is like the Nicholas Cage of the video game industry.

Who knows, maybe things will turn around in a few years with The Sims 5. That's if EA hasn't already killed the franchise.

Well TS3, I guess it's just going to be you and me for a while....

How we've gone BACKWARDS I don't know; in Sims 3 you have full reign of a city, everything happens around you and you can walk to a bar without a loading screen. And if you have a super computer (like my boyfriend) the **** runs fast as hell. So EA, what happened? Were the developers rushed? While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

The Sims 4 is just a foundation of a game. How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
