Horrible graphics. Very disappointed that toddlers are not a part of this game. My bookworm Sim won't read any longer than half an hour at a time. I like how you can have more interaction with the baby, but I really miss the toddler stage. I bought this game strictly on the hope that Sims 4 would offer more interactions with toddlers, but I was sadly disappointed when I found out that "toddler" was not even a stage in this game. I wish I was able to return the game for my money to get a new Sims 3 game, but Game Stop has a no return pc game policy. I would recommend this game to people who strictly like "childhood" and up, who like to stay in their main Sims house, (because it's a pain in the butt to go anywhere, even next door to see neighbors) and who don't mind the awful graphics. EA games are slowly going downhill, and I will not be purchasing any games other then the Sims 3 from them. The only problem I have with Sims 3 is that it glitches every now and then, but other than that, it's pretty much the only game they have to offer that I enjoy. Expand

In sims 3 the towns looked bright but now it looks dull, you have boring places to go, there isn't a town hall or a place where you litterly can apply for a job, EA what have you done? You ruined sims for me and the fact that you doubled the price but you gave less progress and worse performance makes me think you scammed us. This game sucked. EA took everything out and is going to make you buy it all again. For $80 I should have gotten everything or the ability to make anything and not have to buy expansion packs. I took it back and I won't be buying it again at a later date. Good riddens to bad rubbish. If you are thinking about buying it, don't save your money for other, better games.

Really, Im a fan of The SIms series. Ive been playing it for YEARS (1,2 & 3, all EPs) but THIS one has got to be the worst by far. for clarity's sake Ill make a list of why it deserves a round "0". This trash needs a warning people, and Ill consider this to be it. Use it or dont, up to you.

    1) the graphics are shockingly bad. Like a child's colouring in book. Its painful to look at.

    1) the graphics are shockingly bad. Like a child's colouring in book. Its painful to look at.
    2) excessive unnecessary loading screens. Seriously.. they put loading screens everywhere. This is so much worse than TS3 - loading screens are needed, perhaps, but they made it game breaking.
    3) no customization. Everything looks exactly the same. Like cheap plastic toys. Even the sims themselves. You get more customization from a lego set.
    4) exceptionally un-user friendly... just TRY and have two people play the game on one pc. wont even get into that dramabomb. ALso.. how to create new families while youre playing? Nope. you have to quit to the main menu.
    5) a crapton of bugs.. or maybe intended 'features'...like the fact that there is no option to add tattoos once a sim has been created already...or no change of last names when married. (both have to be done with a pretty severe cheat, which destroys family ties)
    6) sims exist as clones of exactly the same mold. They act the same, they all look the same, with slight tweaks here and there.

I can go on and on. really i can. But I wont. The sad thing is that I really really wanted to like this game. I even defended it.. give it time.. see if it grows on you.. and it does.. like a fungus. every day is just a trawl through CC sites looking for replacement textures and gameplay mods to actually make it playable.

The fun has well and truly been sucked out of the series.. this is a withered husk of its past glory.
Maybe Ill give it another go in a year or two.. but until then, ill stick to TS3.

SERIOUSLY... when DRAGON AGE INQs character creator kicks your life simulation;s ass in SO MANY WAYS.. its time to pull the plug. How can a game of THAT size and amazing splendor run so perfectly and look so amazing, but you cant get your game thats around 1/3 of its size (on disk space) run a second without a few loading screens all while it looks like plastic children's toys?

utter nonsense. move on for your own sanity and wallet. Rather go play TS 2 or 3. Its cheaper .. and a lot better,

There are too many feature removals from The Sims 3 to even justify the lack of content in The Sims 4. Although loading times may be shorter, there are substantially more of them. I feel like TS4 is actually moving away from the series we know and love.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm an experienced Sims player. I've invested quite a bit of money into the entire franchise (including a monthly subscription fee for The Sims Online.) I thought I might cover some of the aspects that some of the other reviews didn't cover.

I was able to test this game for 48 hours through Origin, so I tried to encompass as much of the gameplay as I could.

I think the graphics were actually pretty nice. The game seemed a little smoother, and the load times were a lot shorter. However, there are a lot of load times, and the division of the town into sections takes away from the continuity all together. It doesn't feel like a town at all. There's no grocery, spa, any of the buildings where your sim might have a career, and with a maximum of 12 or so houses, it feels more like a pre-made art farm. I had one sim wife go out on the town, she danced some, got hungry, and had to go home because I couldn't find anywhere for her to eat.

Everyone likes the customization in CAS and build mode. I enjoyed CAS, but I felt like it was all a little flat. The hairstlyes were awful, most of the clothing was the same style with alternate colors and patterns.
The sims seem to have more character, animation wise, while having less character because of the limited options of aspirations and traits. One of my sims enjoyed the outdoors, and aspired to be a botanist or gardener or something, So I built a garden outside. I'm used to gardening being a hassle from the Sims 3. It makes you sweaty and tired. But for my sim, it was completely unenjoyable. That doesn't make any sense. She aspires to be a master gardener, and she loves the outdoors. Gardening should be fun for her.

I really wanted a grocery. Paying out of pocket everytime you open the refrigerator is ridiculous, and completely unrealistic.

Hosting house parties is ridiculous. I don't see how one sim hosting a house party with two guests and a horrible time limit could ever achieve all the "requirements" for a great party. At least it could've been tailor made for the amount of sims at the party. My female sim has a girl friend and a guy friend over, and she has to flirt 5 times? Serve 3 drinks? Play an instrument for an hour? By the time she was done making them all drinks and multitasking with chitchat the entire time, the party was over and everyone left. Also, I wanted to avoid playing the instrument because she's not very good and would feel all embarassed when someone heard her. (Audible sigh.)

Another hint: uncomfortable. Your sims get uncomfortable all the time. 70% of your sims life is spent being uncomfortable. 20% is feeling tense. Having to get your sims to feel a certain way for them to succeed at work or school is taxing. Having to get my culinary career sim to make 4 drinks and/or meals every day before work is silly, and a waste of money.

There's also a moat the runs around your entire neighborhood behind all of the houses. That's where you fish! You're not lucky to have a house so close to the river. That's just a thing. If you don't live in the desert, it looks kind of like a concrete water ditch with a wall running around it. It really took away from my pseudo-Victorian style house.

Overall, I can appreciate the effort. I get what they were trying to do, but they just didn't execute it as well as they could have. I've read a lot of people mentioning how the sims 3 was terrible without the EPs, but that just isn't true. The base game should be a full representation of the game and how it plays, and extras are extras. I'll keep playing The Sims 3 until I get bored with it.

You can't even use Speed Option 4 (fastforward through current action), and extremely useful feature in previous Sims games.

The Positives: Multi-tasking is so helpful
    Runs better on computers
    Build/Buy aren't separate
    And that's about it....

The Neutrals: Create a Sim is vastly improved but due to the lack of create a style it wasn't as intuitive as the Sims 3.
Build/Buy: I'll admit the moving a room around never interested me mostly because i know where a room is going to go when i build it. Sadly due to lack of Create a Style possibilities are limited.

The NEGATIVES (there's a lot of them):
    Create A Style is GONE!
Emotions don't do much (I prefer the mood meter)
Too many unlock-able items( I just want to buy a nice TV but nooope!)
    Very Small Town(s)
    No toddlers
    Warp Work is back
No Open World (probably the biggest asset of the sims 3)
Lack of clothing options (mainly due to no Create a Style)
Making friends seems to take very long compared to the sims 3
LOADING SCREENS EVERYWHERE (Short but very annoying)
The graphics would look good... if I were playing on a mobile device

Overall I think The Sims 4 is a massive step backward compared to the Sims 3. I do understand the Sims 3 was a bit rough on the computer, but that's no excuse to cut out so much content. Never have I felt that I needed custom content in a Sims game, but here I do. EA is ruining The Sims name just like they ruined many others like Burnout and Need For Speed. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS. Go buy Sims 3 and 2 expansion packs instead. At least that's worth the cost

+ Create-a-Sim is the game's astounding feature. The dragging type modeling makes recreating your ideal celebrity very easy. Clothes being sorted by style and type make picking outfits easier. New things like walking styles give your Sims more character. Traits on the other hand, are less complex.

    - Open world is something of the past, as it, yet again, is a step back, because of loading screens.

    - Graphics.... Don't get me started. Previous games were quite impressive the time of their release.. But then there's Sims 4.

    - Gameplay is very repetitive and doesn't have me playing for long.

In final, I wouldn't recommend this game, personally. Creativity is a must for me and seeing how so many things took a step back, absolutely killed it for me. I find The Sims 2 better than this one, which I find to be very sad.

I regret that purchase. For one, they're offering it even cheaper now, so at least if I bought it now, it would have been less money to have wasted. But mostly, I would have not bought it at all had I known then what I know now. First off, I hadn't had the game that long and I didn't play it that much and I tried to get a refund, but Origin never acknowledged me. Then the time I would imagine elapsed so instead of having the game on my computer taking up space, I played it. It was fun at first because I like building the houses and creating the families, but after that, the game play was hollow. It was literally doing tasks over and over and hardly anything I would maybe have found fun. Send your sim to work, make them eat, make them cook food, send them to the bathroom, take care of the endlessly needy baby sims that don't do anything aside from lay in their cribs. Then I added in some content like different houses but many houses I found to download required expansion packs I wasn't ready to pay for. It's already expensive to play the base game, to add in all these other packs would be well over $100. Unless you get a sale and even then, you could buy 5 packs at $20 and still spend an arm and a leg. This game is a hollow shell. You get lured in setting it up. You waste an hour or more setting up the family , the house, getting it all going. Then if you add in more Sims and houses and maybe some mods for different things, the game starts to malfunction. One baby I had was invisible. You have to load a new screen to visit anything. A neighbors house, the park, whatever, it's all waiting. This game is set up so that you're wasting so much time. I thought this would be fun and stupidly I bought the game and now I know that the Sims isn't for me. Maybe you'll like it, but if you never played it before like me, it's not that fun. I'd rather get some other type of game than this, or invest in a console. Not at all pleased with my purchase, not happy with Origin's customer service. I thought I had x amount of time and game play to test it before I had to let them know I wanted a refund, and even though I thought I fell within those ranges I still was never refunded or even acknowledged with an explanation as to why I didn't receive a refund. There are more fun games. This is playing house if you want to act out real life. I don't want to feed Sims all day long. I don't want to play for 3 hours and only get a house built and regular tasks like showering or using the bathroom done. Sometimes my Sims wouldn't do as I was playing them to do and they'd have a bladder failure or get really tired. Oh well. I will chalk this up to a waste of money. I hate this game now. Expand

I don’t mean to be so harsh, but sometimes the truth is just that harsh. If you’re considering this game, just buy part 3 and save yourself the disappointment and don’t expose yourself to this. There are a few things that are done well, yes it look amazing, yes it runs smooth, yes the Create-a-sim is the best and easiest ever, building lots has never been more streamlined and impressive, the Gallery feature is a perfect addition, but beyond those few things you will find yourself bored after just 30 minutes with every new game you try to start. The people responsible for creating this iteration should lose their jobs and feel remorse for what they’ve done to such a strong gaming community. EA just wants to make as much money as possible and take advantage of the average consumer. Expand

I LOVED The Sims 2. I banned myself from playing because I was addicted, so I never played Sims 3. Recently allowed myself to play Sims 4. I'm glad that it wasn't as addictive as Sims 2 because that made it easy to give up. I'd give it 5 stars if I had never played The Sims before, because, overall, on its own, it's not bad. I'm glad that it wasn't as addictive as Sims 2 because that made it easy to give up. I'd give it 5 stars if I had never played The Sims before, because, overall, on its own, it's not bad. But there are tweaks they made to v4 that made it not as gripping.

The CAS was pretty cool. Even though it lets you move shape vectors around (to design the curve of a cheek, for example), somehow I wasn't able to create the avatars I wanted. In Sims 2 I used to be able to make myself and my friends pretty easily, and it was fun to play with all these people who really looked like people in my life. You could do funny things with them. But in Sims 4, despite the advanced tech, I couldn't make avatars that were recognizable as me or my boyfriend. The one thing better about Sims 4 was that you could design your avatars' bodies with more variation. For example, it was nice to be able to use the contour manipulator to give my females smaller breasts, and to make all the characters' body shapes more realistic.

It's difficult to say what was less compelling about the game, all around. The aspirations part changed. It should have been better, but somehow it wasn't. There wasn't a feeling of, "I want to accomplish THIS" or "I must accomplish THAT" ... the whole thing felt a little more apathetic than v2. I suppose that's realistic, because the world has become averse to rewarding accomplishments for fear of making the underachievers feel bad. Somehow The Sims 4 has captured this new "We're ALL blue ribbon winners!" feeling.

    Differences that I noticed are:
    - there are no cars - that bit was fun before
    - there are no diving boards - realistic to life now ... no biggee, really
    - there is no private school, and no doing homework - your kid just all of a sudden is at school and it's treated the same way going to work is. This was kind of a bummer, because I thought schmoozing with the headmaster was kind of fun. I presume that the designers wanted to abolish social caste distinctions, but The Sims was a world where anybody COULD get to private school and get a nice house and a maid and a helicopter if they worked for it. That was fun. Now it's lame.
    - The first kiss, first woo hoo, and proposals used to trigger a little close-up movie scene, which was fun. Now they don't.
    - The neighborhood doesn't seem to be as big. There were less empty lots to choose from.
    - House-building and decorating used to be my favorite thing. It's still pretty good in v4, but they made it more complicated.
    - The characters now spend way too much time talking to each other. They're always gabbing, gabbing, gabbing. When you want them to get stuff done (like eating when they're starving) it's annoying to have to keep trying to control them from talking. On the plus side, the animations are well done. It's kind of cool how a character can take a plate of food, sit on a bed, and talk to a toddler playing nearby. Even though I can appreciate the tech, I don't like the result in the game play.
    - The characters have a lot more options now. I understand how this would seem like a good thing, but it's not. Too many options slow the game down. For example, when you clicked on a character in v2 you had, I dunno, maybe 12 options for ways to interact with them. Now, in v4, you have a ton more options. While I do like the color-coding and the grouping them in motive categories, I think having this many options actually makes the game less fun. Similarly to how you have to constantly control your Sims from talking to each other, the multitude of character action options forces you to spend too much time clicking in order to get them to do what you want.

All in all, I think The Sims 4 is a fun game to try if you've never played The Sims before. However, for me, I was hooked for about a week, and then I hated it. There was a lot of work required for not much reward. I liked Sims 2 better.

I only have a couple of the expansions, because at that point I got sick and tired of EA's way of milking its player base. Even with a few major Expansion packs and about a dozen minor ones and item packs... the game is lackluster. You never really feel you can really customize your character to something you want. Everything just feels barebones to the max, EA has done EVERYTHING to give you the bare minimum.

I had not played any of the Sims games since the Sims 1. That one only had 8 Expansion packs... the Sims 2 had more, the Sims 3 had more than the Sims 2 and now the Sims 4 has more than the Sims 3... yet it feels even more barebones than the Sims 1 was.

The Sims 4 is one of those big money makers for EA; you can tell, because they don't even include Expansions or packs in EA Play service. Even EA Play Pro only has 2-3 packs. So even if you pay their monthly service, they are too cheap to offer you a full Sims 4 experience.

I'm sick and tired of EA's bullcrap capitalist ways. I'm done with EA.

Even if this means I won't get the Mass Effect Remastered experience, I decided EA is a blacklisted company in my books. They do not give a crap about the games they make, all they care is to rip you off and make you pay big money for what is litteraly very much nothing.

    F*** OFF EA!

Despite the many flaws of this game (to many to list) the selling point of The Sims 4 was supposed to be its simplicity. They wanted to make it easier. Easier than what? The last word I would use to describe The Sims franchise is hard. Everything has been dumbed-down to the point that it completely looses its functionality. Placing houses is incredibly easy, placing houses correctly is **** impossible. I continuously find myself placing houses with front doors facing away from the street and into a field, and this theme is constantly recurring all throughout the game, things are easy to do, just not properly.

Being that this is the "base game" I imagine it ill be improved upon. With the previous Sims installments each DLC was accompanied by a free update that improved the overall functionality of the "base game". I would say it would be fair to assume that after 5-6 expansions have been released, the base game will have gotten enough updates to be playable.

Unfortunately, The Sims always feels incomplete until a lot of DLC has been developed and released to expand the game-play. It always feels like something is missing. I find it likely that this will also be the same for The Sims 4 but on a much broader and lengthier scale. I would wait about a year and a half before purchasing this game.

The "only" thing TS4 has going for it is "Create-A-Sim" and "Building." That's it. The actual gameplay is boring, shallow, and unrealistic. If it weren't for all the TS4 modders, House builders, and YouTubers, TS4 would be dead. No one would even play it.

As for updates, it's all garbage. They are trying to implement Story Progression, but it's not working. It's still lame. And guess what EA is releasing for TS4 this summer... more kits! Yay! NOT! Move on EA. Give us TS5 already and make it like TS4 should have been.

The idea behind this is that people don't have to sit through a long loading screen to play the game but instead give us one every time we want to visit any other location. This isn't a very good compromise, I would happily sit through one long loading screen, getting myself a drink and maybe a snack and come back to a then seamless game than have to sit through a loading screen for every excursion from my street. It's just quite bland, I'm not a fan of EA and their methods but Sims have always been one of their strongest points. For me this is a let-down and I don't think I will be sinking any more money into expansions when the base game itself is lacking much needed content. The reason I give it a 4 is because it still does what the sims is suppose to do. It provides a reality simulator in which you can raise a family but honestly aside from the addition of new Sim moods, and addition so small it would be a better suited to an expansion this game offers nothing new and I would urge most people to stick with sims 3. If you are a hardcore sims fan then additional content may eventually make this a game worth playing but for everyone, I'd stick with sims 3 for now. Expand

First things first, I'm really not into making the sims less realistic but that's just me. The CAS is cool, yeah, but why make them more cartoony? They look like the sims freeplay characters and that bums me out.

    And now my major gripes:

No family tree...what?! I'm a legacy player, this game is basically pointless for me.

No customizable anything. I get it, expansion packs $, whatever, but shouldn't you be going FORWARD from your previous game and not backwards? I understand not including pets, supernatural, university etc., that's standard, but to strip the game of features that came standard with the previous version makes zero sense.

The neighborhoods are a complete joke. What is it, 4 houses per? A loading screen (yes, short, but still) between itty bitty neighborhoods? WHY? I don't see the reason and EA/Maxis seems to think this is a central core will not budge type design. Why though? I really don't get it. If they would go ahead and explain to anybody WHY they consider this central to the game, maybe I will feel better about it.

No toddlers...again why? I LOVE the toddler stage. It's annoying as hell but you see the beginning of genetic mixing even then (is that even a thing in this game? genetics?)

One less trait...when the game is all based on traits. Kinda silly and limiting.

    No pools, no cars? Huh?

I think I only have a couple of pros:

I always hated building houses and decorating because in general I suck at that, but I'll admit that the building aspect is awesome and I like being able to download from the community because there are a ton of skilled players out there

The community/gallery is actually pretty rad, I really like that. If we can't get online play, I'm at least happy we can have some sort of interaction with our friends.

CAS is neat as I said, but too cartoony for my liking. The physics and graphics behind it are pretty cool though.

The multitasking is nice I guess.

    That's really about it.

    ----

In summary: this game was half-baked. It wasn't ready. This would be a good demo of the game. Once they start rolling out expansions and I inevitably buy them because I have since the very first sims 1, maybe just MAYBE it'll reach some sort of finished feel. I really hope that they take the fan reaction to heart and give us some huge upgrades, but I sort of doubt it. For now, I'll stick with the sims 3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another disappointed long term simmer here.

Have played the games since it first came out in 2000, brought all the exps and stuff packs and would have described myself as quite loyal to the franchise. Having seen a lot of stuff on the internet and read reviews both on here and Amazon, I was very unsure about whether to get this but bit the bullet on Friday (partly because it looked like the modding community was already looking for fixes for the most frequent fan gripes) when I saw it on offer, it has now been returned.

For me, it feels as if the soul has been ripped out of the franchise; playing it just doesn't feel the same as the other games to mend for me, the immersion just isn't there for me, I would imagine partly because of the shoddy camera controls (I switched to Sims 3 mode in the options and it still didn't solve it for me) and the endless loading screens which put me off actually leaving the lot - I have lost hours upon hours in the other games and couldn't this time .

Socialization in particular is really difficult, especially for teens (why do four out of the five age stages look almost identical?- who thought that was a good idea?) as you can't tell which age stage is which, relationship building seemed to take forever (definitely a lot longer than in the other games).

I know a number of reviewers have already mentioned the speed needs deplete and I would agree with this. It did really hinder me it using the new objects and "exploring" (if you can really call it that) the new neighborhoods, again it made everything feel more of a faff than it should be. For me it also made the game's pacing feel lumbering and slow - like you'd just finish getting everyone sorted and it would be time to do the whole cycle again. Really not fun at all

In all fairness I did feel the create a Sim and build/buy modes were very good a definitely the best parts of the game. However I really felt the loss of the colour wheel and quite often found myself thinking 'I don't want this to be x colour - I want it to be y, bit oh-wait that's not a preset so I can't do it' I could live without the patterns from the Sims 3 but how hard would it have really been to stick in just some alternative un patterned colour choices? Really liked the pull and drag walls in build mode and did think it made building easier. As good as these functions might have been; Sim and House creation are not why I play the Sims and so couldn't redeem the game for me.

In terms of the stuff missing - pools and toddlers I can live without, the open world I sorely missed and the community lots which came along with it. Although a few community lots come with the Sims four; I was less than less than impressed - there didn't seem to be much there and they were difficult to negotiate with the camera. Things would have improved a lot if they'd included cinemas and restaurants rather than one empty nightclub and a gym. The Pathfinding seemed to be a bit dodgy as well - my Sim would continually not be able to get to places. Yet another aspect of the game which felt like a chore and wasn't really fun. They also seem to have removed a lot of the old skill objects which is a real shame.

There are a lot of unlockables in this game - the whole concept of which I dislike - The thing which really appeals to meabout the Sims is not having to complete objectives and (although of course you're not obligated to unlock stuff) I begrudge having to do so just to get objects (and not really all that special objects going by the descriptions like you did in the Sims 2 with the career rewards). On this point - I hate the fact there most of the careers from the first three games are missing - not everyone wants their Sims to have a wacky career. They should definitely bring the old careers back - what the hell's a tech guru anyway? That said I did like the fact that all the careers had two possible branches and would have liked to have seen that in Sims 3

The emotions aren't really worth mentioning just a bit of a gimmick which didn't really add anything to my gameplay. I resented having to send my Sims top work feeling a certain emotion rather than just in a good mood. Once again just made everything more hard work than it should have been.

In conclusion, I wouldn't recommend this game - not to fans of the original games or to newcomers. I've seen this compared a lot to the Sims 2 and while agree it does feel a little bit like that - it is nowhere as good a game. The whole thing felt like a chore with everything feeling so convoluted and hard work- the charm and entertainment value from the old games just isn't there. I think I got about five hours playtime before I gave up. Definitely going to stick to playing a combo of Sims 2 & 3 until the inevitable Sims 5 comes out.

Yet another example of EA's greed when it comes to gaming, buy the sims 3 if you want a good life sim game the only thing sims 4 adds is certain moods and when you're in those moods you do certain things like "take an angry poop" not very original EA. In fact I wouldn't buy from this company at all after everything they've done to the industry. 1/10 introduces some ok features but leaves out core gameplay and also why the hell isn't it a connected world? Loading screens between everywhere you go isn't necessary even with the updated graphics.

Another vehicle for EA to milk a ton of money from DLCs from The Sims franchise fans. After playing the create-a-sim demo for sims 4 I could honestly say that I was beyond excited for the new release chapter in the game. What a load of rubbish. It is such a backtrack from sims 3 it feels more of a very slight improvement to sims 2. Save your money, just purchase sims 3 instead.

One thing EA did not do that terribly on is with the new create a sim which is one of the only things you can see an improvement in but even so, I feel restricted on what I can do since I can no longer edit items to how I please which, for me, takes the whole fun out of the creative process since it was the editing tool which I used so much of in sims 3.

Gameplay is bleak and boring, no open world anymore so we have to wait for those irritating and boring waiting screens before it loads and since the buildings have so little to do in them, within five minutes I find myself moving to another building and waiting frustratingly for another loading screen to end.
Careers are far worse then before with less choice and less opportunities whilst in those professions it really makes such a big part of the game boring and non-interactive. Well done ea, it feels as if I'm replaying sims 2 again and not in a good way.

Emotions are a good feature but as much as everyone seems to like this idea, it bothers me some. It grew irritating fast and I found the emotions feature more bothersome then enjoyable.

Building is a good added feature but since the game is such a let down it really makes little difference whether I can make a house quicker or not.

Overall if you are thinking about purchasing this game, from my own opinion just don't. If you're new to the world of the sims, buy sims 3. Heck even buy sims 2. Sims 4 is a rip-off for its money and due to how big the game is now, I wouldn't even buy it for half the price after having played it. This is the only sims game that I have bought, played for an hour and turned it off when I could have played the game for days on end. I hope EA do something spectacular to makeup for the disappointment of this game. In fact, I hope they burn the sims 4 and just skip onto a sims 5 with open world and all of these fantastic features I loved so much in the sims 3.
Even though it hurts to find out the good, the positives are the new create-a-sim and build mode but these factors alone cannot create a good game.

I sincerely dislike this game. Inferior to Sims 3. When other sims have been release I spent all day playing with them. This one 10 minutes a day is too much. All of the choices in previous releases have disappeared, I don't like the trade in for moods what idiot thought of this? I will not purchase any new releases until it plays

I was expecting to get excited and that they would have major changes... but totally obtainable since Sims is all about changing how you look at games and pushing the limits... or at least they use to be.

These are things I was expecting:
1.) Rabbit holes are now accessible and you can follow your Sims into cafe, work and school.
2.) Sims look realistic and have a height slider.
    3.) Neighborhoods can be connected.
4.) Toddlers can go to daycare and preschool.
5.) Weather is included in base game.
6.) You can create your own patterns for CAS in-game.
7.) You can place hats, boots and jackets over your Sims' clothes.
8.) Aliens in the base game
9.) Sims can multi-task better. Ex. Can talk and exercise at the same time.

These are things I wanted, but wasn't expecting.
    1.) More traits.
2.) You can design your own neighborhood in-game with terrain paints, etc.
3.) Lots have a snap-to-grid feature for easier placing so you can connect them to roads easier.
    4.) Neighborhoods can be bigger.
5.) An expansion pack where you can visit the aliens' Home world.
6.) You can choose to make totally empty worlds, like in Sims 2.
7.) Can delete custom content in-game.
8.) Your Sims' hair grows and they can visit barber shops.
9.) Males have the option to take off their shirt when they get hot or sweaty at the gym. More realistic.

But this... this is just sad. This is worse than Sims 1. I would play Sims 1 before Sims 4. It feels like they're destroying one of my favorite franchises... like Mass Effect 3. This to me is not playable. I would rather have them work on the game for two more years than release it as it is, but my dad tells me it's not fixable and that they should just scrap it and start from the beginning. That Sims 4 is unredeemable. Now I'm just worried that there won't be a Sims 5 or worse... that there will be and it will be total crap.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As an avid simmer, this game was something I looked forward to since the announcement of its release. Having as much experience as I do with The Sims and EA, I expected great things from this game. Unfortunately, this game has been nothing short of a disappointment. With the additions of loading screens each time a sim leaves their home lot, it feels much less communal and the fact that there are only two defined "hangout" spots in the game does not help. The over rated Create A Sim features in this game are indeed different and put the sims in a brand new light, but the personalization does not change the fact that the sims look like characters from a Saturday morning cartoon. Unlike The Sims 3, the sims look lifeless and are now much less relatable. The feature I have found the most over rated has to be the emotions. Although it is nice that actions do effect my sims' moods, they are simply renamed versions of the moodlets from The Sims 3. In fact they are much less realistic than the "moodlets" from the previous game, they're over exaggerated and definitely not in a good way; which has caused them to feel a lot less relatable. I don't know about you, but when I need to go to the washroom I don't walk with a limp or slouch like a sloth when I'm hungry. In summary, EA you have disappointed. You have taken the game I've grown to love and turned it into a nightmare; I can honestly say I will never buy a new sims game again. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has positives and negatives, the positives being multi-tasking & the emotion stimulator & in my opinion I really do like the graphics Also, a lot more Food options!. However, its definitely not worth the price! This game is probably worse than Sims 2 (which was actually really good & the transition between 2 & 3 was outstanding by EA).
    The Negatives:
    - Create-a-sim , its completely pathetic the Sims don't look like real-life people. the hair is all clumpy & the bodies are very unrealistic, there is no height difference between teenagers, young-adults, adults or elders.
    - The traits are also very basic & boring.
    - There are no Toddlers?! and the Baby literally can't do anything and can barely be interacted with by other Sims.

    - NO OPEN WORLD! its just a bunch of loading screens after loading screens, can't see the Sims school, work & if you want to go anywhere... ALL is just loading screens.
    - There is also no Create Tool, you cannot personalize your Sims houses as much as compared to Sims 3...
    - LAME! No cars, & the neighbourhood is sectioned.
    - RANDOM SIMS WILL CONSTANTLY JOIN YOU CONVERSATION AND CUT OFF OTHER INTERACTIONS WITH SIMS YOU WANT TO TALK TOO!
    - NO STORY PROGRESSION

For example, if I wanted to be a Super Spy, that'd be the Goal/Wish, to become a Spy. The Sims 4 didn't even have Pools when it came out! Pools where added a few months later for free. Another thing, we couldn't see our Sims at work. I just wanted to be able to see the building my Sims worked at, just like in Sims 3. Again, after a few months EA allowed us to see out Sim at work! BUT we had to quit our current job and get a new job with the 3 jobs that you can be with your Sims while they where working. The 3 Jobs where, Detective, Scientist, or Surgeon/Doctor. This new DLC called "Get to Work" costs about $35. So basically you are paying for the game all over again (If the game was 50% off...). Oh and one HUGE thing EA messed up with, THEY DIDN'T ADD CARS! Can you believe it? They didn't add cars! Every so often you will see a few cars driving around the world, they can't be driven by your Sims though. EA, add cars as a FREE DLC for the game, and make the world "Open-World" like the Sims 3 was. I really dislike Sims 4 because it has a different "travel" system. That new travel system makes my game run at about 10 FPS just because of the loading screen. EA, please change the Sims 4 and make it be like Sims 3, I want to be able to travel with a car and not a long, laggy loading screen. I want to be able to have up to 6 traits for my Sims and not 3, I want to be able to see what jobs are available for my Sims when I'm creating them. I want my Sims to be better dancers and not just wave their arms like they are freaking drunk or high. I want my Sims to be able to live in a house that have Spiral Stair cases, and Elevators. I want my Sims to live in a single world and not split up within the 3 world that Sims 4 currently have. I want EA to fix their **** and stop dancing in our money.

    EA, you better fix this.

No color wheel or pattern system to design clothing or furniture the way you want, very limited color chooses specially for clothes, nothing matches because the colors cannot be adjusted and the predefined colors simply aren't enough. Totally closed and not connected world which means constant loading screens. You can't go in 3D from one neighborhood to another, the sub-hoods aren't connected through roads - you always have to go through map view.
Loading screen into map, loading screen into neighborhood-selection, loading screen to any lot within the neighborhood. Even all lots in your current neighborhood (there are only 4-5 per sub-hood) are locked from view and you have to go through loading screens to visit lots within your current neighborhood. Very many annoying screens to go through e. g. the neighborhood selection screen appears all the time. Totally flat grounds and lots, no reachable hills and mountains, no private fishing ponds any longer, fake sky, fake horizon, fake grass. The grass deserved not to be named a grass. Bark, rocks and grass lack details and are just painted without a structure on it. Everywhere sparkle effects on foods and harvest items to hide the bad textures. Cartoon style on everything, huge oversize objects and in comparison tiny Sims. Sims with flat paper skin and lots of gaps in the body structure (neck, arms, legs, mouth gaps) and the old fashioned style burrito clothing again this time without structure and mature textures, just clothes appear to me like a piece of paper was brought in a shape. If you now expect better performance in Sims 4 because world is totally closed, most features were removed and graphics were heavily tuned down and the whole simulation was simplified (i would say in Sims 4 is no simulation any longer regarding to family and social reaction aspects) then I have to disappoint you: No faster loading screens, not less bugs but even more bugs, totally modding unfriendly and saving the game is only slightly faster at the very beginning of a fresh save game. So the Sims 4 has no performance gain for the huge sacrifice developers made on it. The world is incredibly small, the sub-hood ends already at your neighbors home, 4 lots are in the neighborhood only. Sims aren't simulated well, Sims only do sport and fishing and nothing else in the neighborhood. You will see them going alone down the road without a family or group. They are mostly jogging, making push-ups on the road, rarely they have an assignment to fish for a while and that's the whole simulation. Only walking, jogging, more walking everyone alone and mostly kids, teenagers and elders. Adults are mostly never on the road which is irritating.
Kids and teens have no curfew, they roam the roads until 3-4am. Non-played Sims have no needs and no dress code.
Skills go immediately uncontrolled on everything which is very annoying, from a single conversation your Sim might get already three unwanted skills like comedy, mischief and charisma. Just getting into the pool and out will make your Sim receiving the athletic skill and picking up a fruit will give the Sim the gardening skill. All skills start from level 1 immediately and going already to level 2 which is very confusing. In the other Sims games we had a lock on those skills until we take classes or read a book - here are not existing classes.
No shops, no community buildings, no city hall, no work buildings, no hospital, only the tripled museums and gyms.
Meals you buy on your fridge, books you buy on your bookcase, pregnancy is resolved on the toilet.
Money is taking on the easel for each painting attempt, coffee machine takes money from the Sim and bar does - the floating money effect goes on everything and it annoys - other Sim games didn't that way. Huge bills which come only if you travel with your Sim to other lots, if you don't travel almost never comes any bill. The bill is snapped inside your mailbox, the mailman doesn't come, even if some Sims are working as mailman. The bill usually is snapped inside when you travel from CAS or into CAS or if you visit lots in the city. There is no newspaper and time scaling in weekdays doesn't work proper. Maid doesn't work right and doesn't come when you make a call. All other NPC were removed in this game (fireman, police, gardener, repairman). No repairman is in this game. Things break frequently, your Sim is enforced to do handiness each save game. No right money making or earning in this game exists for your Sim only painting is still profitable even after being downgraded already few times. Patches and updates don't bring fixes for this game - there are only downgrades, new bugs, new annoyances and trait downgrades or things being worsened or being removed from the game even. The graphic was downgraded with patches and more gaps were added to the Sims. Game crashes often or freezes on loading.

I was hoping for more character customization which was also decreased in the Sims 4 with the only improvement being the diverse body molder which enabled you to create sims with more diverse body shapes (although this was also achieved in the Sims 3 through mods).
Pretty much everything that I wanted out of the Sims 4 went instead in the opposite direction. But the new paintings were nice and the emotions at least allowed the game to evolve in one aspect.

The game crashes so much it has become unplayable!!! How about instead of coming out with more expansion packs EA focuses on fixing this recurring issue! No matter how many times I call customer support I have had no luck in fixing the issue. To top it off I received an error message the other day and then all of my saved files somehow got deleted and I lost two weeks of playing time.

The game became so buggued now that it's absolutely implayable. Example amongt a ton of others : if a kid has a toy in his hand or in his inventory, and you try to make him take a bath, he will start the interaction, and cancel it before ending it.... because the toy just bugs the action.

It is unbelievable that you have to pay £30 and then after a few hours it crashes. And no I don't have a bad computer (£2550 in fact). I mostly agree with the other reviews saying that the only good things are 'make a sim' and house builder.

The worst The Sims game ever, at least at my opinion, without the free roaming that you already have on the others games, and without many things, like cars. for me, this game is ridiculous, and btw it's fully of loadings.

After playing the sims franchise since 2007 and having been playing the sims 4 on and off since 2014 when it first released. The sims 4 even after all these years feels lacking to it predecessors. Completely unplayable for me now. If you want to play a life simulation game I'd say you're better off with the sims 2 or 3.

EA did NOT go easy on the expansions. Expansions are supposed to expand currently complete games, not complete unfulfilling incomplete messes. Examples:
-Weather and Seasons are their own Expansion
-Events for hosting parties are an expansion
    -Family Pets are an Expansion
-Interactions for Jobs/Careers are an Expansion
-THE CITY FOR THE CITY WORLD IS AN EXPANSION
-An expansion for house objects (yeah that's right, we took out half the available items)
-Restaurants and Night Clubs are separate expansions

-Current Cost for the full game: est. $520
-Honestly there is no fixing this void of content unless about a third to half the "DLC" are given to you through free giveaway events.

This is truly the worst Sims game ever created by EA. They are destroying Will Wright's legacy in my opinion. The gameplay is extremely superficial and shallow. The Sims, originally a fun, witty and detailed life SIMULATOR, is nothing more than a doll house where the simulation aspect only happens in your imagination.

Oh boy, EA ruining another Maxis game here we go again. Now I know it is rather late to be expressing my concerns with the series after this game's release 5-6 years ago but I just want to talk about how this series has gone terribly wrong ever since EA introduced the fourth instalment.

This game is the prime reason as to why fans are losing faith in the developers because they feel the need to turn the product into a cash cow. Some how this has succeeded but it isn't because of EA but it's because EA is now involved in very dodgy influencer marketing. As a marketing student, while EA is doing an amazing job at inflating profits by doing so, the problem is that in the end they will have no source of credibility or a positive reputation to continue the series after this instalment. I'm always keeping up to date with what they do with the sims 4 because it is a marketing lesson but it seems that to have any source of fun with this game you need to purchase a few of the many expansion packs on offer (32 of them). To get this game with all the expansions you'd be paying over £400, how generous! and what's criminal about what they've done is that this DLC only adds very little to the game. With other games, DLC will usually add a whole new plot or chunk to the game but not with the sims 4 because pets and a weather system has to be separate.

Now why are people throwing money at EA when they know this is a ludicrous money making scheme? it's because of the marketing. It has nothing to do with EA being EA. YouTubers are promoting this game the same way Ninja promotes Fortnite only difference being is that Epic's Fortnite is FREE and probably offers more fun to a consumer when comparing it to the sims 4. YouTuber's who promote the sims 4 get all the expansions from EA for free because they know that these opinion leaders will encourage their followers to buy the game and that's what it all boils down to. Then, because of the strength of these opinion leaders, their followers will anticipate the next money grabbing DLC that EA throws out to them because the opinion leaders are going to make a radical cool video expressing how excited they are for all the new features that their audience has to pay for while they get it for free.

Even when YouTuber's criticise EA's money making schemes, the opinion leaders will of course, defend EA the same way that politicians defend companies involved in bad schemes.

It is clear now that EA Is ruining the sims as a series and its gotten so bad that people are still playing the sims 3 and 2 even though they are no longer supported. They aren't ruining it through "forgetting to add Toddlers at base game", they are ruining it by being extremely greedy and somehow their marketing works. But if they make a next sims game, it will not make as many profits due to the amount of DLC available for this game and that fans will go into an uproar of buying the same old DLC all over again.

The developing team clearly cares only about the profit, not the content they are providing for a quite solid price. This lack of love and passion for their product is showing in everything: lackluster DLCs and an absence of details make a sloppy game overall.

You can't officially change the language of the game. The game publisher assumes you only ever speak one language and want to play your games in one language only. The steam version doesn't seem to have a similar issue so if you want to pay a second time for a mediocre experience that's one way out of this impas.

a good idea but horribly executed, likely i got mine through gamepass ultimate through EA desktop but the interface is completely and totally complicated. just trying to build a basement was like trying to control a nuclear reactor and requires you to watch a video on youtube about how to build a basement. it should work like this:

    2. build the basement, following the floorplan to the staircase room
    3. put what you want into the basement

the video didn't even help, it just confused me even more.

likewise the sim's are basically robots. they don't do what they need to, surely if they need to go to the toilet or have some food they could do it themselves instead of me sending them a command. what's this i hear about "autonomy" and how the sims can run themselves, sometimes they will do things on their own, such as sleep... on the couch. despite there being a bed.

i really wanted to like the sims. it would seem like my kind of game, a game where you didn't need to do much aside from upgrade the house and send commands to do more complicated things such as deciding what they will eat so when i tried it i only played a few hours before giving up.

Unnecessary amount of updates. The Sims is only a game I play intermittently and only for an hour or two at a time. Every single time I want to play I have to wait. Sometimes it's just not worth it and I end up going months without playing.

The Sims 4... where do I start? I started playing Sims games when The Sims 3 just launched and I loved that game to death. I do not want to compare The Sims 3 and 4, because they are two different experiences, however The Sims 4 IS a successor to The Sims 3 and it should be treated accordingly. Before I get into the negatives of The Sims 4, I want to talk about the positives. First of all,The Sims 4... where do I start? I started playing Sims games when The Sims 3 just launched and I loved that game to death. I do not want to compare The Sims 3 and 4, because they are two different experiences, however The Sims 4 IS a successor to The Sims 3 and it should be treated accordingly. Before I get into the negatives of The Sims 4, I want to talk about the positives. First of all, create-a-sim and build/buy mode are both amazing. If you are looking for a game in which you want to build houses and create detailed looking people, then The Sims 4 is your game. Secondly, the gallery aspect of the game is also a very nice touch. In the gallery you can download sims, houses and community lots from other people. This is a nice feature to have, because it really allows you to share your creations with the world. These are the two positives I can name if I talk about The Sims 4. Now I need to talk about the bad parts and there sure are enough to talk about. So what are the issues with The Sims 4 ? The big problem with The Sims 4 for me is shallow game play. This can be divided into several categories, but the shallow game play is the main point in which The Sims 4 fails miserably. The lack of an open world, 90% of worlds are set dressing, the sims which do not have a personality at all, the budget cuts in animating simple stuff like opening an elevator door, sims 's actions have zero consequences, relationships between sims feel shallow, etc. These points help make the game play less and less realistic and also less interesting. I am not interested in a SIMULATION game if this game is not realistic. The Sims 4 feels like a game that was meant to make money by doing as little as possible. This can truly be seen in the $300+ USD worth of expansion packs. If these expansions actually gave a ton of content, I would not complain, but even with ALL the content installed, The Sims 4 still is an extremely boring game if you bought it for the game play. I think The Sims franchise has lost that bit of magic that it once has. Now it's just a part of EA 's money grabbing machine. Expand

While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

The Sims 4 is just a foundation of a game. How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
