TheThe Old Tree is a strange, unsettling point & click adventure game, which runs only about 10 minutes and has little-to-no gameplay. The atmosphere is this game's strong point: it creates a very unsettling and bizarre world in no time at all, and makes you almost believe it as you follow and help your abnormal four-legged apple-like creature traverse the maze that is the "Old Tree".
It's lacking in gameplay, which consists of clicking every now and then. There is no story present whatsoever, though with a little imagination I suppose you could pretend there was, and the puzzles are usually fairly simple, though there are a couple that are pretty clever. The imagination put into this game is also a strong point, alongside the atmosphere & art. It's definitely nothing I've seen before which makes it unique, though there are just too many flaws to give The Old Tree a higher score than this.
Perhaps if the game were longer, the puzzles more complex, the gameplay more engaging, some sort of a story, a point to the game, or a tad of explanation, The Old Tree could receive better marks. In a weird way it reminds me of Botanicula, which is an awesome game I recommend as I personally think it's kind of similar to The Old Tree and if you liked this game I'm sure you'll enjoy Botanicula.
Though to be fair, The Old Tree is a free game, and it takes barely any of your time, so honestly what do you have to lose? Try it out and see if you like it, in the very least it will be a brief breath of fresh air; a break from the normal mainstream games, even a break from most indie games. So this may be the first time I've ever recommended a game I've rated this low, simply because it's free and only takes 10 minutes of your day, and there's a chance you'll love it.
