A game of wildly varying inconsistencies. It's got an interesting, lengthy plot, conventional but ultimately well-designed puzzles, and a great atmosphere thanks to its black-and-white art style, use of real world photos as backdrops, and solid, often unearthly sound effects and tracks.
-
The Lost Crown: A Ghost-hunting Adventure is a good adventure game, but too many conventional elements and low production values keep it from being a great one.
-
Ultimately, it’s the setting of The Lost Crown, between the brilliant sound design and the superb art direction, that will give you the most pleasure, and a great deal of praise for these elements is due the game’s creator, Jonathan Boakes.
-
The Lost Crown: A Ghost-Hunting Adventure is a classic adventure game with a gripping storyline, plenty of puzzles and a number of interesting ideas, which always revolve around the devices that you can use to detect the presence of ghosts. Unfortunately, the game is marred by a series of problems far from negligible.
-
This game can create a unique atmosphere, which can lure the player, but there are too many weak points which destroy the ambitions of The Lost Crown: A Ghost-Hunting Adventure in terms of simply being a good game. Fans of horror and creeps should at least consider it worth one try, to all the other gamers: Don't even think about it.
-
The Lost Crown – A Ghosthunting Adventure is an adventure game the opinions of which will differ. Spooky Atmosphere is great due to the sound design and the thrilling story. But given the stale technology with really poor character animations and the idiosyncratic look, players of graphic delights such as The Book of Unwritten Tales will be difficult to convince to this independent adventure.

PC GamerBetween the scares, your interactions with living characters are hampered by poor voice acting, an inability to skip conversations, and constant dialogue sync issues. [June 2008, p.71]
-
I think the game would have been much better off concentrating on two or three well developed ghost stories rather than the dozen or so passably interesting ones that are in the game now.
-
PC FormatThe puzzles aren't that bad either, gently ramping up from fairly easy to mentally taxing. [Oct 2008, p.114]
-
PC Zone UKIt's really hard to put into words how excruciatingly bad the acting is, but the phrase "unnecessary pauses" comes to mind. [Nov 2008, p.77]
-
PC Gamer UKA lot of good ideas that are, sadly, very poorly executed. [Dec 2008, p.88]
-
To the less than fanatical, the drawn-out story, poor pacing, terrible script, crappy acting, plethora of typos, repetition and badly designed game engine will see to it that the most chilling prospect of The Lost Crown will be the thought of sitting through it.
