Really don't get all the bad opinions about this game. This gameplay is incredibly fun with a great looking art style and neat particle effects.

Only thing I can think of is they aren't playing it right. The main idea is simple: Observe the room you're about to clear and the enemies within. Take mental notes if the walls are solid, if there are boxes, etc. Then plan the order you want

Only thing I can think of is they aren't playing it right. The main idea is simple: Observe the room you're about to clear and the enemies within. Take mental notes if the walls are solid, if there are boxes, etc. Then plan the order you want to take them out and the position to get them all, then leap in with the slo-mo active. When you're doing it right you can take out an entire room in less than 2sec.

Even though your movements are slow you can still fire rapidly. It's insanely fun and a great take on twin-stick shooters.

It's really odd so many say it's so hard. It's not. It's only hard if you don't plan your order before leaping in like a jack@ss. It is hard to get the extra stars for clearing under the time limit, etc., but those are just bonus goals. They are there for re-playability if you wish to collect all the gold stars, but completely optional. The strategy reminds me a little of Ghostrunner actually.

Don't let these reviews deter you from playing it for yourself. Especially if you already like twin-stick shooters. A true hidden-gem.

It’s a very intensive and addictive experience – although it doesn’t get in your head as well as Hotline Miami, nor has it comparably good soundtrack. It’s a game put together from other people’s ideas which simply go well together. [03/2019, p.80]

The Hong Kong Massacre teeters between magnificent to mediocre quite often. Its gunplay mechanics are good, but the dodgy AI will ruin the experience due to your very high fragility and their impeccable aim. The levels look awesome at first, especially when the action gets kicked up, but the environments blend into one another after a while. The trial-and-error nature can get tedious, but if you don't mind that, then you'll find lots of high-tension action here. The Hong Kong Massacre isn't a must-have, but it isn't a bad title to play, either.

You may enjoy the game if you like John Woo's action movies.
