    Was a decent game, but it feels unfinished and abandonded till this day. Building was long and boring, you couldnt destroy your building to get at least some of the materials back. I don't recall many bugs to be honest. Maybe when multiplayer mode was first introduced. Still, it was nice going back to build a base but was boring after a few hours and there was no incentive to go back and continue.

    Relatively, I haven't played it much. But I enjoyed the game. It was scary to experience every night. But the games have problems and disadvantages. One of which is a small variety. The first days everything happens very quickly, but later everything abruptly becomes a routine and the game becomes very boring.

    Nice survival game, but very boring gameplay. The plot is generally good, but unfortunately very commonplace and predictable. The game is exclusively for co-op entertainment. I doubt it will be really fun to play it solo.

    First-off this game is buggy as hell. Don't buy this game if your looking for a nearly completed game. I got a LOT of bugs, including randomly dying, and no way to save my game. Items combine, duplicate, etc. Also, the game performs really badly atm. I'm running it on a GTX 760, and i get about 30 fps on the highest settings, while I get around 45 in Battlefield 4. The flare gun shoots as fast as you can click with no reloading or cooldown, and infinite ammo.
    All of that being said, this game definitely has huge potential. The time the game wasn't completely bugging out, it was actually decently scary. And it looks like it probably has a good story behind it. The survival elements are pretty cool as well. It allows for custom buildings, which is always a plus side. The team seems like its very open to bug reports as well. Basically the point I'm trying to get across is, if you can get passed the incredibly low frame-rates, massive amount of bugs, and clunky combat, I can definitely recommend this game to you.    … Expand

    While the game is initially fun to get up a running camp and getting food - it soon turns out to be lacking in terms of crafting options.
    You can build custom buildings and what not but there's nothing like metal forging or actually getting up some cool equipment to run around with to beat up the hostiles.

    Once you face these weird babies or the mutant, 3 hits and you are dead. I don't see the fun in that.

    - There are several avenues for survival to where you don't have to do anything too contrived to survive - though as usual it is apparent that the developers are not survival experts - Many basic tasks are made more immersive than the usual fare, like chopping down trees or spearing fish -    Pros:

    Cons:
    - Bugs galore - structures disappearing, enemies running in circles, climbing spikes like they're nothing, the ability to fall a mile on a turtle shell and not die, a multiplayer exploit to dupe items that has existed for over 3 years, enemies spawning inside your walls, pots used for drinking water exploding when a fire goes out...
    - The lighting model, in its efforts to produce something cinematic, means your character is more blind than an ordinary healthy human
    - Dedicated servers are supported, but just barely, and by a horrendously barebones application that will have you scratching your head for a few minutes
    - Story strains credulity
    - The world is small and only gets smaller
    - The game was clearly given the 1.0 as a stop-loss so that the developers could quietly abdicate and any new feature takes months or years to be balanced and fixed, if it is ever working

    Overall, it's fairly dignified for a Unity indie early access survival crafting game (what a genre, eh) but most of the trappings are still there, just not as noticeably. On the splash page here you'll see a review from 2014 saying that it's acceptable for it to have bugs because it's an alpha. Well, it's 4 years later, we're several RCs past, the game is "out," and still buggy. Buy it on sale.    … Expand

    Entertainment for a couple of evenings. Nothing special, just survival with a few interesting plot twists, nothing more.

I played some survival games before, but nothing like The Forest in terms of time invested to build a rather normal base, the material requirements for everything is nuts. Exploration is boring because navigation trought the island is flawed by poor maps, poor art design, very few iconic spots and the lack of real points of interest. It has ton of generic "always the same" caves that you need to cover in order to get some key items, while fighting hordes of enemys, with a very basic combat system.
    Story its non existant until the very end, and still then its really not explained at all, and thus not compelling at all. Ther is no text, no dialogue, no characters whatsoever. All in this games just feels dull and empty. And as of May 2018 still buggy. Not worth your time, believe me. If you wanna spent serious time in a good survival game with a good compelling story just get Subnautica.    … Expand

    To begin with this game is very buggy... The gameplay becomes really boring after a few hours, even if you play with friends. Creatures are creepy indeed, but that should be the matter of course in this genre. The building is on an average level but because of bugs it quickly becomes frustrating.

    A great multiplayer game. Whether you are raiding a cave or you are improving your base it sure entertains. By not progressing in the story it gets quite improving.

    You have to praise the developers for always fixing bugs, adding stuff and improving the game in general. Many other left without touching the game after selling it a lot.

    The next complaint I have is about story.. First - the game lacks logs, tapes, on other stuff that would suck you into what's going on and make you actually care. The did very terrible job at this and lazy one, because there are very few sources of information and those don't even touch the subject of reasoning behind everything that is going on.

    Final complaint are the endings - there are two and both are complete rubbish. One cuts a massive shortcut and the other one isn't even a proper ending. I think devs were lazy on this department, even for limited budget title they honestly could have done way more.    … Expand

    A great open world survival with AMAZING visuals! I play multiplayer alot and the game still manages to offer a lot of suspence. There is a fool day and night cycle with an amazing crafting system to make maany cool things like bows to SEVERAL types of shelters.

    The Forest gets off to a strong start, throwing you onto an island fraught with cannibals, with naught but an axe, backpack, and a couple TV dinners to your name. The first few nights are spent desperately scavenging materials for tools with which to build, hunt, and defend yourself; construction (or discovery) of emergency shelters is required to be able to sleep or save the game, andThe Forest gets off to a strong start, throwing you onto an island fraught with cannibals, with naught but an axe, backpack, and a couple TV dinners to your name.     After about a week on the island, you should be well enough equipped to actually take on two or three cannibals in a fight if need be, and begin descending into the island's many cave systems which are dense with more powerful mobs but also peppered with more powerful tools. You start feeling capable of tackling the challenges both above and underground.

    After two weeks on the island, the surface will have gradually become populated exclusively by 12-foot mutants and Dr. Manhattan clones, who can all outrun you like you were standing still and two-shot you once they catch up. Attempting combat is complete suicide, and most of the weaponry you've spent your time building up is now effectively worthless, save your precious limited supply of explosives. Any base you may have built on the surface won't be worth attempting to return to as you are forced underground into a winding array of tunnel mazes, fumbling around in constant near-zero-light conditions as your sole feasible means of egress. God help you if you haven't yet found all the most important equipment by this point.

    It's also still fairly buggy.

    May 2014 - Steam comes up with a new game in early access. We arrive on a broken airplane and in the cabin lies a woman. Bugs insane amount, impossible to play, optimization "wants the best."
    End of 2016 - The ending comes out and it is not even finished. All we know is that Timi is still sick, playing harder. One bug is removed and a new one appears.
    April 30, 2018 - It comes out of early access, there are still a lot of bugs, it's already impossible to play and now your character is even susceptible to cold.
    It can be interesting to play, especially to have fun with friends, but for those who like the plot and and gamers with serious intentions this game is unlikely to suit.    … Expand

    It is fun to play with friends, but you realise that the survival system isn't really necessary that if you go to the caves. It's so easy to find food and water that you don't need to hunt do anything else but go cave diving.     Played this in multiplayer with 1 friend, Had a really good time. It was a fun, mysterious adventure with some cool crafting/building options and relatively fun combat, though there was a few things that was a bit annoying:
    - Spent a looot of time making a base in the beginning that we ended up returning to like once, all other nights we just built temp-camps.

    - The caves are dark as hell and very confusing, the times we died and had to restart from last save we noticed that it's really easy to miss collectibles and other "important" stuff. Also when it comes to the caves, the torch is terrible and won't help you as much as you'd like.
    - A bit buggy at times.
    - The map is really hard to interpret and it won't show you the marker points you place out, you can only see the direction to them in your field of view which can lead to being messy if you have a lot of them,

    Overall though, fun co-op game with a few flaws. Would recommend.    … Expand

    It's somewhat hard at first to learn all the mechanics the game presents to you, It involves a lot of hard work and hours in order to survive the first days, but the feeling and atmosphere the first night gives wont ever be replaced. It's till buggy and I personally didn't care 'bout the story at all.

    I was playing about 4 hours on PS4. Crafting is highly developed but fighting mode is too weak in my opinion. It is hard to win with enemies, hiding is the best choice. I am sorry but it was a waste of money.

    Arkadaşlarla oynadım. Issız bir adada hayata kalma, malzeme edinme, bunlarla bir şeyler inşa etme ve gizemi çözme işini çok iyi veriyor. Arkadaşlarla eğlenceli ama tek başına çok zor ve daha korkunç olacağına eminim.

    The surivival machanics (Hunger, Thirst) I found to be easy enough to manage but still present enough that you had to plan and prepare for them. I love the way the canibals stalk you throughout the day, watching, waiting. It really adds to the tension.     The surivival machanics (Hunger, Thirst) I found to be easy enough to manage but still present enough that you had to plan and prepare for them. I love the way the canibals stalk you throughout the day, watching, waiting. It really adds to the tension. At times this game can be really peaceful, chopping wood, hunting animals and building your settlement up but the enemy is always near by to keep the game from getting dull. The Island is a great map. Plenty of variety and the underground cave system is really well designed and a joy to explore. The story is somewhat interesting but it really takes a back seat for the main gameplay loop.

    Crafty is a breeze with an easy to read menu system and despite it sometimes being too cluckered, I really liked how the game lays out all your resources in the menu by showing you all the 3d models spread out on a tarp. Highly reccommend overall !    … Expand

    You can play solo, with friends or with random players.Even there are some separate servers with ip, they are not tested. The game also has two endings to choose from.
    A lot of Easter eggs that will help you understand what has been happening on the island for the last few decades.

    When I first got acquainted with this game (and it was somewhere 0.29 version of the game) It was still very raw, but already playable. Now, of course, I have to spend a lot of time in this game for personal reasons. But if you play it solo, you can quickly get bored with it.    … Expand

Make a smart to-do list, let's finish the game like this, the exaggerated mystery gets boring after a while. I prayed for it to end. By the way, the finale was bad. It has a lot of optimization issues as it's made with Unity.     Довольно средний выживач с очень малым количеством контента, который захватывает только за счет исследования мира и общей мистической направленности сюжета, до концовки которого хочется докопаться (как такового его тут нет, просто есть завязка и финальная локация, которая все разъясняет, что вообще происходит на этом острове).
    Общая атмосфера очень захватывает, и пока не привыкнешь к ней,    Довольно средний выживач с очень малым количеством контента, который захватывает только за счет исследования мира и общей мистической направленности сюжета, до концовки которого хочется докопаться (как такового его тут нет, просто есть завязка и финальная локация, которая все разъясняет, что вообще происходит на этом острове).
    Общая атмосфера очень захватывает, и пока не привыкнешь к ней, будешь находится в постоянном напряжении и с ужасом переживать каждую ночь в надежде, что она пройдет как можно скорее (что, кончено, огромный плюс к атмосфере).
    Подробностей и причин всего этого не буду описывать, лучше это однажды пережить самому, общую концепцию можно увидеть и по скриншотам.
    Из того, что увидеть по ним нельзя - в игре безумно дорогой и долгий крафт базы, из-за чего кроме промежуточных мелких лагерей ничего особо больше строить и не хочется, а хочется просто исследовать остров в поисках зацепок для дальнейшего продвижения в цели всей игры.
    Попробовать эту игру точно можно посоветовать всем, но именно задерживаться в ней для продолжительного выживания - не уверен.
    Повторюсь - я не особый любитель жанра, но в коопе провел в ней 20 часов в удовольствие (под конец кишкообразные пещеры с бедным крафтом немного утомили).
    В планах через время вернуться и еще попробовать поиграть чисто на выживание, с обустройством своего лагеря, но не уверен, что после этого захочу повысить оценку.    … Expand

    The details of the game were well taken care of. I was very happy, like I was hungry and thirsty and tired.

    The gameplay came to me very imperfectly, after playing with one method and fighting repetitively with repetitive enemies, it made me score 7
    Variety : 5/10
    The diversity was very low. I did not see any diversity without fighting and hunting :/
    Characterization : 10/10
    The appearance of friends and cannibals is normal and acceptable
    Optimization : 4/10
    The game was not optimized at all and most of the time it goes to the point of crashing. Some caves are not optimized at all.

    I had some good times on this one. Just the graphics could have been better and many bugs, sometimes very annoying.
    But in the end pretty entertaining. Better with friends tho.

    The story is as cliché as it gets, not even worth talking about honestly
    Some things about the gameplay are disappointing:
    - Building is not worth it at all, at no point you'll feel the need to build the cool stuff - When you choose to build the cool stuff anyway, you find out it's an absolute chore -Ranged fighting feels unforgivably bad.     This game is mostly spent exploring caves and so that leaves a lot of mechanics like base building useless. Cool lore tho.

    it's quite nice... but damn it's grindy, at some point I just gave up building because they continued destroying my house...

    The Forest is an awkward open-world survival game. It's thrilling to play because of the intense atmosphere, but confusing maps and annoying enemies make it really hard for me to immerse into the game.

    In a crowded landscape littered with a few too many survival crafting games, The Forest makes a pretty strong case for itself. With an open-ended world balanced by a story that moves forward, The Forest contains both freedom and mounting tension and provides not just the means for the player to survive, but a compelling reason to do so.
