Immersive game indeed, and one of the few good flash games for PC (if you can call it that). It improved from the last game, and the story was definitely well-executed. Only downside? The surprising difficulty.

The original Binding of Isaac was by far my favorite rogue-like game, and i spent 100+ hours on it just trying to get all the items and even get to the very final boss; needless to say it was a gem of a game. So when I heard there was a sequel coming out I feared it would be too similar to the original and just be a rehash of old ideas. I'm glad to say that I was so wrong. So when I heard there was a sequel coming out I feared it would be too similar to the original and just be a rehash of old ideas. I'm glad to say that I was so wrong. While the basic fundamentals of the game are still there, it added so much new content that I don't even care. With over 400+ items to collect, tons of bosses, lots of extra challenges, and infinite replayability, this game gives so much for just the small price tag of 15$. If you were like me and experienced lag from time to time in the original, fear not! The game is locked at 60 FPS so you'll always get a smooth gameplay from start to finish. There's just so much to this game that I can't even list everything this game has to offer. Just believe all the positive reviews and pick this game up as soon as you get the chance. Expand

This was a fun game but also challenging. It offers a good mix of replayability and difficulty. It is better than the original and I am looking forward to see what else the developer will be doing!

Considering the step "down" from graphics and music (depending on opinion) it really could have turned out worse. Though it relies heavily on whether the game wants you to get good items or not, there is still a large amount of strategy and new content. If you don't like the music, there's a mod on Reddit to change it to the original.

This game is just boring. Go room to room in a boring map, hate the keyboard controls, kill stuff that mostly looks the same, boring grey monsters, get stuff that I don't know what to do with, die constantly. Boring.

Graphics look worse with pixelation but the game runs better because of it, runs much faster and smoother. I will give it that. But the asking price is too much. The cheese-crappy mechanics that made the original annoying still make this one annoying. I repeat what I said first: Catch on sale. Expand

Typically when I rate a game, it's based on hours of enjoyment per dollar spent. Some of the very worst for me are Brink and Diablo 3, which were both expensive, and dull. One of the very best games for me has been Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. It cost me a measly $15 dollars, and has rewarded me with about 50 hours of entertainment. I really wonder what's in the water these days for people to be so mindlessly entertained by this drivel. When I play it I feel I am a special child being taught basic cognitive skills by a game probably designed for precisely that purpose. Maybe Pewdewpie can salvage this wreckage by making a funny video about it. The most fun I had was uninstalling it.

    Binding of Isaac :Rebirth

One of my personal favorite games the original was really interesting and new to me and now a new refined version of the original 60 frames more balanced bosses and enemy's with retro new look heavy Zelda Inspired dungeons in it with the addition of even more content from the already monumental Items pool creating new things to do for the veteran Isaac players.

The way the game is designed makes sure that it keeps feeling fresh and keeps surprising you even after many hours of gameplay. The vast item pool, random dungeons, challenges etc. make sure that there is almost infinite game play in this.

A minor complaint is that the pixel graphics chosen for Rebirth is not a good fit. This is because many things in the game, e.g. tears, are dynamically scaled in size. This leads to inconsistent pixel resolution on various elements on screen, which causes a graphical mess. Going with pixel graphics is fine, in my opinion, but then they should have made sure that everything is in a consistent resolution.

Bottom line: this is a clear 10/10 for me. Totally addictive.

After spending hours upon hours into this game I have come to the conclusion that it quite possibly is some of the most fun I have had on Steam. Easy to pick up, hard to master; add a huge amount of content and you have The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.

Maybe it's because I didn't get into Binding of Isaac til about 6 months ago, but too much of the game is just a re-hash. It doesn't feel like it adds much to the original game. You'd probably get more enjoyment out of this game if you never played the original.

"Rebirth" is perfectly fitting for this game title. After having bought and played with the first one roughly a hundred hours, I was afraid it would just be a "redone" cash-grabbing with slightly better garphics and a few new options and that's all. I found out it is the exact opposite.

The gameplay in itself is richer, since there is a alot more of everything, from items to characters

The gameplay in itself is richer, since there is a alot more of everything, from items to characters to room configuration. The items interactions with each other are more marked, giving some weird, fun and sometime unplayable results. As such, you feel even more the differences there can be between two runs.

The coop mode could use some work though, as one player is still a subaltern to the other.

Basically, even if you own the first, there is enough difference to justify a purchase.

My only qualm is that you can't get more than 2 rows of hearts anymore, I guess that is a balance decision but personally one I don't feel was necessary. Other than that, every single change makes perfect sense though.

There is so much content that I don't think there is a single game in the history of gaming that can possibly top this in terms of the price you pay for the game compared to how much replay value you can get.

And would you believe that there are no microtransactions in this day an age!? Woah, what a concept!

This game rules, plain and simple, I generally hate most games these days but this one shines forth strongly amidst a sea of mediocre games that came out in the last few years as a truly bright spot and incredibly well done game.

The new engine allows for some pretty cool effects but the biggest upside to the new engine is the fact the game doesn't lag much now and runs at 60fps rather feeling like it's locked at 30 like the original. The original feels extremely slow and sluggish compared to Rebirth.

The only major problem I have is the music. It isn't the original. It's new music which is nice but the new music, while some of it does sound cool and reminds me of Terraria, it doesn't feel like it goes with the game.

As a major fan of the original Binding of Isaac I was psyched to hear that there was more in the works. In the end I feel that Rebirth didn't really need to be made after-all since first Binding of Isaac continues to be a great on its own. TBoI: Reskin doesn't feel different enough to warrant paying for the same game again (especially for nearly double the price of the first).

The good: Game performance has improved by moving the game's engine off of Flash. There's more items and monsters. That's about it.

The bad: Much of the fun of the Binding of Isaac was the novelty of exploration, which can't be recaptured by playing the same game again and recollecting the same items. I actually dislike the look of the new graphics. Although the new soundtrack is good I find it to be a huge step down from the original's.

If your an Isaac addict Rebirth is for you. I bought this in hopes of chasing the high I got from the original but the novelty is gone. McMillen is an amazing artist and I look forward to his next (new) masterpiece.

The new pixelated graphics are very different from the flashy ones, but they are soo much detailed and well done that the atmosphere looses nothing. If I may say, it's even goryer than before. The difficulty is the same, with new fkd'up enemies, twisted items and cool bosses.
A must play and a must buy, if you can. The developers sure deserve the support.

The game is much harder than its predocecer although to compensate for this there are more items, more useful items , amazing item combinations, bigger rooms, different enemys, more bosses, stranger secrets and ton more possible floors and rooms. The Binding of Isaac Rebirth is massive game in scale.
People complain about the graphical changes to the game. They are much better. What people need to understand is, the creator intended the first game to be like Rebirth, to pixels and sprites and having it this way actually makes the resolution higher allowing fullscreen mode and makes characters and enemys on the screen run much more smoothly with no lag or frame loss.
A problem reoccurred in this game, when you check the item screen in the original game it would show you a picture of the item and the name of it. But in Rebirth now they only show you a picture. I would be nice to know everything about the item on the menu screen without having to check wikipedia to know whether or not i should pick it up. Big step down.
Although despite that point, tinted rocks being a bit darker and harder to see and 2-player mode being a bit limited i think Binding of Isaac Rebirth is the best game of 2014 and it majestically towers over its predocecer being a bigger, prettier and more enjoyable game to play.

The game itself with its new art style and soundtrack feels fresh but familiar. Since around half of the starting items you can find are from the original, and half are new, there's plenty for returning players to find to test with, and plenty to find that you already know how to use. For new players, the rogue-like experience will definitely have them coming back for more as long as the difficulty doesn't get to them. The game definitely retains its difficulty that the original had being that everything is new and randomized. Even veteran Isaac players have a ton new to experience. I played the original for 230 hours, and the first 5 I've spent with rebirth have felt completely new with every passing run. Old bosses have been retuned and reworked so that their attacks and patterns are different, while some of the new enemies and bosses have me stumped still with how their patterns work, so it is definitely a new set of challenges. There's tons of new everything in rebirth. New pills, new items, new curses, new trinkets, new room types, and the list goes on. I haven't had one run yet where I haven't found something new. All in all, Binding of Isaac Rebirth supplies the same feel the original gave, with a much vaster world and more complete feeling that the flash limitations sometimes wouldn't give. Its not perfect, but its fantastic, and well worth the time you put into it. Expand

A fantastic successor to the original. The overall gameplay is much smoother and there's greater variation in the rooms and encounters. Items also pair in more interesting ways, and more items can combine their effects.

So why did I ding the game two stars? To begin with the game still largely relies on luck to play a successful game, everything randomly generates so it's absolutely possible to roll a new game that ruins the entire game.

The second reason being they refused to add online co-op gameplay. They added local co-op, which makes no sense for a PC release and simply said they avoided online gameplay because it'd take too long to develop. They also claimed they have no plans to include it in any future patches or DLC content. This is a lazy excuse, considering how famed the Binding of Isaac series is, they could have easily contracted the work out and recouped the losses.

In the end Rebirth is a great attempt at refreshing a old franchise, but the random elements of the game had ruin late stage gameplay and the lack of online co-op is a minor annoyance at best.

Why in the world would I pay fifteen dollars for a game that I already owned? Yet within the first hour of playing, I was completely hooked, unable to break from the screen in my conquest to discover as many new items as I could. But just because a game is addicting doesn't mean it's perfect. So what are my thoughts? Let's go through them one by one, starting with the negative.

My most major complaint is that of the larger rooms. Although it's a great concept, it was not exercised in the way I had hoped. The overhead view moves along with Isaac's every turn, making enemies hard to hid and creating a nauseating feeling. This could easily be patched, but as it is, the larger rooms are something I dead solely because of the headache I always seem to get while clearing them. Apart from the room issue, there are also a couple graphical and audio issues that make the game ever so slightly frustrating. The minimap shown on the screen is smaller and harder to read than the original, making it less useful than I would have hoped. In addition, the sound effects can get repetitive, and some are outright annoying (try picking up brimstone and your ears will be bleeding profusely by the end of the level). However, most of these are minor, and not worth passing this game over.
As for the positive aspects of the game, there are more than enough. The graphical style is sure to cause controversy with some, but I happen to find it a vast improvement over the simplistic, rushed-looking style of the original. The frame rate has vastly improved as well, with the 60fps being extremely manageable even with the slowest computers. Of course, there are many more items, most being exciting and game-changing in a way that is good without being overpowered. Some have complained that this version is much easier than the original (which I might even agree with), but rest assured the game is still extremely difficult, with the option of a hard mode enabled so that those hardcore gamers who desire their game's difficulty to be on a Dark Souls level will have nothing to fear.
So here's what I've gotten from my several hours of gameplay accumulated: The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is an extremely satisfying re-imagining of the previous game. It's got more than enough to keep an old player interested, and will absolutely entice new players looking for a rouge-like adventure that's actually fun to die in. It's a cleaner, more balanced version of the original, with enough to set it apart as its own game without completely abandoning the level of fun that made the first so great. It's more balanced, more bizarre, and ultimately a rewarding purchase that I recommend with full support.

The excellent rogue-like horror came back to life with a new engine and lots of changes. Thanks to that, the game is a little more accessible, but still you will not get anything for free. Gameplay is great, Isaac’s torture still hurts and a joy of any tiny success will please you greatly. The Binding of Isaac is recommended by eight out of ten child psychiatrists.
