Catch this on sale, don't pay retail full price. Most things were improved but this took a step back in a few ways. Difficulty is jumped up through the moon compared to the first game, as if this one expects you to be a pro in the original to play this one. Graphics look worse with pixelation but the game runs better because of it, runs much faster and smoother. I will give it that. But the asking price is too much. The cheese-crappy mechanics that made the original annoying still make this one annoying. I repeat what I said first: Catch on sale. Expand

Functionally the game performs leaps and bounds better then the original did.

So why did I ding the game two stars? To begin with the game still largely relies on luck to play a successful game, everything randomly generates so it's absolutely possible to roll a new game that ruins the entire game.

The second reason being they refused to add online co-op gameplay. They added local co-op, which makes no sense for a PC release and simply said they avoided online gameplay because it'd take too long to develop. They also claimed they have no plans to include it in any future patches or DLC content. This is a lazy excuse, considering how famed the Binding of Isaac series is, they could have easily contracted the work out and recouped the losses.

In the end Rebirth is a great attempt at refreshing a old franchise, but the random elements of the game had ruin late stage gameplay and the lack of online co-op is a minor annoyance at best.

As a major fan of the original Binding of Isaac I was psyched to hear that there was more in the works. In the end I feel that Rebirth didn't really need to be made after-all since first Binding of Isaac continues to be a great on its own. TBoI: Reskin doesn't feel different enough to warrant paying for the same game again (especially for nearly double the price of the first).

The good: Game performance has improved by moving the game's engine off of Flash. There's more items and monsters. That's about it.

The bad: Much of the fun of the Binding of Isaac was the novelty of exploration, which can't be recaptured by playing the same game again and recollecting the same items. I actually dislike the look of the new graphics. Although the new soundtrack is good I find it to be a huge step down from the original's.

If your an Isaac addict Rebirth is for you. I bought this in hopes of chasing the high I got from the original but the novelty is gone. McMillen is an amazing artist and I look forward to his next (new) masterpiece.

Better than most roguelikes, but still not great. The reasons why its not 'great' is because RNG and Luck play way to much emphasis on progression rather than true skill, which leads to many failed runs because RNG didn't give you any OP upgrades.

Another issue I personally hate is that the sprite clipping isn't perfect, enemies can occasionally shoot through walls when they shouldn't

Another issue I personally hate is that the sprite clipping isn't perfect, enemies can occasionally shoot through walls when they shouldn't be able too. I wouldn't recommend this to someone who is new to roguelikes, or anyone who easily gets frustrated.

good game but to be honest it feels much easier , the gameplay seems slowed down and the monsters kinda stare at you instead of attacking you. in the original you were always on the defensive and I liked how you would get **** items and be totally screwed one game and get awesome ones the next game and destroy it..... game is more balanced now wich I don't think is necessarily good forgood game but to be honest it feels much easier , the gameplay seems slowed down and the monsters kinda stare at you instead of attacking you. in the original you were always on the defensive and I liked how you would get **** items and be totally screwed one game and get awesome ones the next game and destroy it..... game is more balanced now wich I don't think is necessarily good for this type of game , the soundtrack is blah and although it got a new art style I am partial to the original it just felt right Expand

Maybe it's because I didn't get into Binding of Isaac til about 6 months ago, but too much of the game is just a re-hash. It doesn't feel like it adds much to the original game. You'd probably get more enjoyment out of this game if you never played the original.

The Binding of Isaac Rebirth is my go-to game when I want something familiar but new. Detach yourself from the subject matter and it's great dungeon-crawler with lots of replayability.

This game is an actively frustrating, clunky and poorly thought-out mess, elevating itself through it's style, it's myriad of items that change the way you play and a weird atmosphere, feeling disgustingly dark and hilarious all at once. Since it came out the roguelike/roguelite genre grew far beyond Isaac, but this game is ultimately a fun and unique experience, and everyone should try it out.

I got interested in this game from Youtube videos and my friends, and I have to say, it's great fun. The amount of content in this game will make you put hours upon hours into it. Unfortunately, parts of the game can get repetitive, but other than that, it is definitely worth a buy.

The truth is, the game is quite good, the setting and gameplay is quite interesting and entertaining. The only bad point that I see in the game is a lot of Monstro

To me, the binding of Isaac is incredibly overrated. I love roguelikes but this game didn't make me want to come back to it like most other roguelikes I enjoyed. The excellent rogue-like horror came back to life with a new engine and lots of changes. Thanks to that, the game is a little more accessible, but still you will not get anything for free. Gameplay is great, Isaac’s torture still hurts and a joy of any tiny success will please you greatly. The Binding of Isaac is recommended by eight out of ten child psychiatrists.

Of all the remakes that were released in 2014, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is truly a born again game. What once was just a sketch, turned into a beautiful painting.

It introduces a lot of new content but other than that is worth than the original game in almost every aspect. [01/2015, p.73]
