The Adventures of Shuggy is one of those game you will never remember as one of the best games from you library, but you can always count on when you're bored. Lots of levels, various scenarios, clever enemies, nice graphics. That makes a solid 7.

This puzzle platformer uses tons of different mechanics to make each of its levels unique and interesting. There is time travel, clones, rotating gravity and much more. The closest game would be Braid, but where Braid takes itself maybe too seriously, this game has a very cheerful, humorous approach. The only thing I really didn't like is the platformer-typical challenge to manual dexterity such games usually present atop their puzzles. Namely, even if you already guessed how a puzzle level needs to be solved, it still can take many frustrating attempts to execute the solution without a mistake to the very end, especially with this game's 1-hp instant death rule. Also the character here has this annoying "sliding animation" which makes him slide for a while after landing on a platform. This may make the simplest task of jumping across a series of small platforms surprisingly difficult to perform for a new player. You either slide over the platform after landing and end up on spikes below, or you try to slow down while in mid-air, press the button to move in the opposite direction, but hold it for just a fraction of a second too long, and end up falling straight down, not reaching the platform you wanted to land on. This inertia is actually not very typical for 2D platformer games and probably shouldn't be in this game at all.

There's a reason this game is 50 cents. Nobody over the age of 5 will find it fun or interesting. This is the most repetitive and obnoxious game I ever played. Fortunately, I got it for free.

“Adventures of Shuggy” is a challenging puzzle platformer, which can induce high levels of frustration… However, I actually found myself returning to this title quite frequently to try and tackle the levels I failed at; which is indeed rare for me… I guess it goes to prove that I did actually enjoy the game! The biggest gripe I have with this title is that even though it's a simple 2D game; it seems to take delight in closing down or bugging out should you dare attempt to put the game in full screen mode which I genuinely don’t feel is acceptable (especially since no fix has ever been mentioned)! All in all it’s a wonderfully nice little game, but don’t be fooled the cutesy character, some levels can be a serious pain! Expand

Adventures of Shuggy although looks like a cute platformer game, it isn't. It is a bit more like a game like They Bleed Pixels but till where I have reached, it is quite difficult. But I am not recommending it because of the difficulty, but because of its childish atmosphere, now I don't mind a game like that, but it feels so childish, with its childish music, sound effects and the storyAdventures of Shuggy although looks like a cute platformer game, it isn't. The challenges don't always delight as they might, but there's always another to try--a prospect that's hard to resist once Shuggy's manic sense of invention sinks its teeth into you. [Oct 2012, p.71]

A short campaign is the only downside of this otherwise amazing platformer.

The Adventures of Shuggy is a fresh old school puzzle game.
