The game is fun but there is a lot of grinding to get to the mechanical bosses but that's the only real grindy part. This Game with its retro looks and style similar to minecraft was very fun at the start but as stated the part between the wall of flesh and the last of the 3 mechanical bosses.

Minecraft will 100% be better for multiplayer always but terraria is still fun with multiplayer and is even fun with single player when Minecraft single player is boring and a drag but terraria is fun since you will never know what you will find.

Buy for £9.99 its 100% worth it even with its minor flaws its still a fantastic game

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have played this game 196 hours and it's the best game available in Steam. Terraria is like Minecraft in 2D. There are modeled the time of day, phases of the moon and solar eclipses in the game. There are random events like martian attack, goblin army and pirate invasion. During the night there will spawn dangerous monsters everywhere. When it is raining the zombies use raincoats. During Halloween and Christmas special things happen. You must mine the earth for metal ore, melt the ore to metal bars and then forge swords. Bosses will drop special weapons when defeated. When you have beaten the last boss you will continue playing in hardmode where the enemies are more difficult. Expand

Terraria is a great 2D sandbox survival. It is a great game to be immersed with. There is so much stuff that you can do in the game. Even though its basically like Minecraft, its a great game overall.

I had misgivings about playing a two-dimensional platformer, but let me try to sell you on this one.

All your friends are pretty sure they can now fly off of buildings and one guy is stuck in hell because he decided to play a hardcore character and regrets everything.

P.S. Do yourself a favor and don't cheat... or play hardcore mode.

If you're into survival games, this is a must-have. Terraria beats every survival and sandbox game out there.

This game is amazing, and updates are still coming! If you have friends, buy two copies and play together. You both wont regret it!

P.S. If you're more into building stuff, buy minecraft instead.

This game's great. I love it. From the fitting amazing soundtrack to the variety in every part of this game. Although the graphics are well, they're okay it's nothing really special, but its alright. The concept of it is great. The thing that really makes it special is the game-play and overall calm atmosphere of the game. I really do love it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Terraria is an all-around incredible game. I want to go as in-depth as possible in this review, but to be honest, I don't know where to start. So, let me start at the very beginning.

I make a new world and hop in. You paid 10 bucks for this game, maybe 5. You might've even gotten it for free as a gift. I discovered this game on my uncle's computer, where I did my first playthrough. Lucky me. At first, Terraria didn't seem to offer anything special. There were trees, slimes, bunnies. All things Minecraft, the game I used to be hooked onto, had. I took out the axe and started chopping down some trees. After a couple of minutes, I had learned the game mechanics and built a small shack.

At this point, I was about ready to close the game and find something else to play. Terraria wasn't really that interesting... it was everything Minecraft was, but with one less dimension. And yes, this is was most people who hop onto this website and spill out a bad review seem to think. But if only, if ONLY they bothered to make it to at LEAST the first boss, they would see it is so much more than that.

Terraria keeps you on your toes the entire way through. It has a very smart way of doing things, giving you satisfaction with your current power and then shoving a buttload of new enemies straight at your face. Yes, you WILL die. But each death adds to your ever-growing knowledge of the mobs' AIs, the world generation, and the strategies you must implement to conquer these challenges and continue your path to defeat the Moon Lord.

Now, let's tackle a problem a LOT of people have with the game. The crafting recipes can get confusing and messy. There's no explanation apart from a few random tips from the Guide on what to do. This is the fun part of it, though. If you knew EVERYTHING that was going to happen, the game would be no fun. Once you discover that you can create shortcuts, craft new accessories, weapons, and other helpful items, you'll feel like a master... even IF everyone has done these things before. The road down Terraria gets smoother and quicker and, of course, more exciting as you go on. Are you going to let a bumpy start slow you down?

I've already gone over this, but I feel the need to emphasize the genius of this game. The one moment where everything changes: when you kill the Wall of Flesh. Everything you thought you knew about the world is erased. Your feeble weapons are no match against the new enemies with higher stats, smarter AI, and freakish looks. Of course, through fighting these and exploring the altered world, you will obtain stronger weapons to fight the crazy bosses.

Ah, yes. The bosses. Terraria bosses are very unique. You go up against them and are scared as **** but you learn their movements and put them down. This is the way of Terraria. I cannot begin to explain how diverse the enemies, biomes, ores, weapons, tools, accessories, and armors are. Just look up a video showing all of the Terraria armors. Or, you could, you know, complain about the bumpy start to Terraria and quit after ten minutes.

    Your choice.

Terraria is an awesome game with a lot to do. Bosses are fun and there are many unique weapons in this game that keep the game interesting. The best thing about this game are the mods. Once you've completed this game once, there is so much support from the community that add more content. The final Terrarria update is also coming out soon so it might change the score.

First, the graphics. they are pretty simplistic but it fits pretty well with the game's aspect, the NPCs, the enemies and the blocks/items are the ''simplistic'' part of the graphics, but the enemies from hardmode and the bosses are, in most part, amazing. The effects of the game got a lot better with the 1.4 update, but in 1.3 they are still pretty good and well-fitting. in general, they are nice. 9/10
Now, the main aspect (i think) of the game, the gameplay. i gotta admit that pre-hardmode is very slow, you gotta mine some ores, make some tools, kill some enemies, get some loot, and if you don't know what to do (like dont knowing that hardmode exists becuz the WoF is in hell, dont know that you can destroy shadow orbs/crimson hearts to get meteors and goblin invasions, etc) you are stuck there until you go to the game's wiki. when you get into hardmode though, the game changes completely, having super strong enemies, having dozens of new loot to get, having a new biome and ores, and specially having new frenetic bosses. after hardmode the game gets really fun and addicting, if someone put a 0 at this game, is because they got stuck in pre-hardmode. and i don't judge them 100%, in general, the gameplay is 10/10
And now, the soundtracks, they are incredible. sadly my PC got a broke soundboard so i can't hear them in-game, but by hearing them in the internet i discoverev what a big of a deal i was losing. for some reason the soundtracks fit so well to each biome/boss that it scares me. the overworld there is relaxing and a good start to the game, the crimson theme is scary, the boss themes give you a sense of danger, its incredible. 10/10
now, this one thing that i talked so many times about, the bosses. they are one of the reasons i kept playing the game for that long (150 hours) they aren't that difficult but they can't be beaten with a blink (except if you have a post-moon lord weapon of course) the first boss that the player will meet in the game is eye of cthulu, at a normal world it is a good bossfight for the start of the game, he releases some little eyes and after a half of its HP it gets enraged and dashes at you, at expert it dashes faster when he is enraged, which you need a strategy to kill it. at the end of the game, there is moon lord, which is a very difficult boss that attacks you with eyeballs and lasers, and each moon lord eye you kill, it releases a huge eyeball that stays on the screen until you kill moon lord, when you kill the 3, its core/heart pops off so you can defeat it, it's a pretty tense boss fight, which fits well with the end of the game, there is only 1 part i don't like about the bosses, the mechanical bosses. they are insanely hard to kill... EVEN IN NORMAL MODE! before i could just beat them with the daedalus stormbow and holy arrows, but apparently in 1.4 they nerfed it so now it's even harder to beat them, i think 30 of that hours have been spent just trying to beat them, until i gave up and used the bow. in general, 8.5/10
so thats it. terraria is a magnificent game which i will keep playing for a long time, it's a very great game to spend your money with, just be aware that the start of the game is pretty slow and that you can't discover everything for yourself and you will need the wiki eventually, i would give it a 9.5/10 if there was a .5 system, so i'm going with a 10, one of the best games i've ever played.

Mod Master is a mode for the most outcast ♂Dungeon masters♂ who know the game inside and out. If after a couple of expert passes the ass does not smoke, you can safely go to the master. ♂Tear off the skin♂ will be 100% the first time and every mob deems it necessary from♂fist♂ you.

Shooter is the most DPS class. Good for a beginner.
Warrior - swords, yo-yo, but be kind, tank damage
Mage is the most controversial class, sweat before hardmode.
Summoner - for the laziest, if there is a warrior in the team. A bunch of nonsense that you call will attack the enemy, you can still tickle the enemy personally with a whip.

Whereas in Minecraft, the emphasis is to build impressive structures and go exploring, Terraria is about getting stronger and better gear to fight bosses. Yes, you can build in Terraria, but it's only to get another NPC character to live in, not really to impress with the scale and grandeur of it. Of course you COULD build for that purpose, but I think that side of Terraria is quite dull. Fortunately, the game's focus is on exploring underground and searching for floating islands for upgrades, weapons, items, accessories and materials to make better gear and weapons so that you can take on the strongest enemies in the game and it's a lot of fun doing so. There is a lot of gear in the game which helps keep the game from becoming stale the more that you progress and the boss fights are a lot of fun. The best way to think about it is a Castlevania/Super Metroid with Minecraft elements.

Unfortunately, getting used to the game does take a fair amount of patience as there is no direct tutorial, but I've never been one for hand holding in video games, it takes away the feeling of fun and accomplishment you get when you get good at a game. Also, once you've beaten the bosses and obtained the best gear you can, the building mechanics really cannot sustain the game and there's not much of a reason to continue playing the game, but for £6/$10, I've sunk more hours into it than what I do most full priced retail games.

It might not be a perfect game, but it is a lot of fun and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who has even the slightest iota of interest in it.

Either patience or greed is enough to get you to the end of this game -- while some players might be frustrated in the amount of time it takes to get from point A to point B, others will take this as a challenge to discover more efficient means of travel. It's true -- the weakest element of the game's design is the digging. I wish that something besides pixeled squares had been selected as the "atom" of this universe. It creates a mathematical angle to the entire play experience, and frankly, it doesn't do it any favors besides the tired "retro" feel. Yes, I'm twenty-six and I miss my NES, but not everything needs to go back to that 8-bit world.

I love the slow accretion of clearly tiered gear. I dislike the awkward inventory system. I love venturing into new areas once I have the requisite equipment (a la Metroid). I hate digging randomly downward for five minutes before finding another air pocket. I love crafting recipes. I love building houses and other buildings. (I haven't played multiplayer yet and probably never will.)

When I bought this game I had high expectations. They weren't met, but I enjoyed playing anyway.

People compare this to Minecraft because it has place and destroy block system similar to Minecraft, but Minecraft just defined a sub-genre that is now a block creative mode, making it more common among more Indie developers.

The graphics to this game are somewhat beautiful, reminding me of the classic JRPG games on older consoles. The game runs smoothly on low-end PCs, and there is always some cranny to explore. The art is done quite beautiful and makes you seem enchanted in this majestically done game.

The most fun I had while playing was during multiplayer online with friends on a server we created. The constant need to improve your gear and gain better loots while you dig deeper and deeper into the world was fun and challenging. My only gripes with the game were with the lack of different types of enemies as you progressed and the speed at which you could gain everything in the game. After 2 days of playing I had the best armor, weapons, and other equipment equipped and found myself bored. Its too bad that the creators didn't see a need to include more than two or three different mobs to kill per biome that you progress through. Also, the difficulty in the game really can only be gauged by the amount of damage you take from the nine or ten mobs that spawn constantly. After appropriate armor upgrades which are easily obtainable through multiple low penalty deaths, you are pretty much unstoppable within 5 hours of playing. Also, after you have acquired everything that you want in the game, there is no incentive to restart a new character or to continue playing. Unless additional content comes fast and often, I could see this game falling by the wayside for many gamers as they seek entertainment elsewhere to quench the thirst for fun games. Even with these things that i have pointed out as flaws (no game is perfect) Terraria brought good ideas and freshness to the 2d plane I thought I would never have interest in again. While the game can be thoroughly combed within ten hours, and a bit repetitive at times, It was still engaging through its entirety and fun. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys Minecraft but wishes for more action oriented gameplay. For now I'll give it a 8 leaning more toward 7.5 until more content is released. The potential is there and for 10 bucks its well worth the investment. Expand

A lot of games tried to copy Minecraft – or at least participate from its' success. But this two-dimensional take on the well known formula is the only game that is able to step out of the shadow of the indie phenomenon that inspired it. It leads you into a unique world full of creative magic.
