This game is an excellent example why we should not read professional reviews. The has very average reviews and yet it is a very good terminator game. Sure, the graphics are dated but the game is still tons of fun. The polish studio knew how to take Terminator license and use it to the fullest. Every terminator move fan should try this game. I do not think that you will be disappointed.

I expected way worse from the developers, after the abomination that was Rambo. The cool soundtrack, interesting story, especially with Annihilation and Infiltrator DLCs, delivers. It is VERY respectful of the source material and universe of the Terminator. The enemies while dumb, feel tanky and quite scary at times. The Infiltrator DLC is such a treat, to play as a Terminator and the Annihilation Line DLC actually puts you in team with Kyle Reese, which tells a good portion of the side stories that happened to pave the way for Terminator 1 and 2. Overall, Teyon, through this game, created the Terminator sequels that we really deserved. It's very ironic when a game developer produces a far better movie than all of Hollywood has in the last 20 years. Great work Teyon! This game is one I'd happily recommend. Expand

The gameplay and the story are very good and what keeps things interesting. There are many different scenarios and situation that keep you in your toes from T800 to sneaking around and also keeping your ammo in check meaning: you can’t go shoot around everything unless you want to run out of ammo fast. Its an apocalyptic environment so supplies are scarce.

The graphics and character animations are in line with games like HALF-LIFE 2 (old school type), nothing mayor but good enough to do the job.

I would definitely recommend this game for Terminator fans and anyone who wants to know more of what happened after T2 Judgment Day.

Oftentimes, critics forget what it's like to allow themselves to enjoy a game whilst condemning its flaws without much leniency... even when acknowledging WHY there should be leniency. TR is budget-priced, and as such, there's some issues- voice acting is hit or miss, sound FX are missing some serious "oomph!" And load times can be a slog.
BUT, despite these issues & a lack of big budget visuals, they deliver a game that should have been made years ago, and it occasionally feels like it's from last generation.
TR just... delivers. Its early gameplay is arguably when it's at its best, as you feel helpless with ammo in short supply- but, once you begin gathering more to your arsenal, it gives you that feeling of going from a survivor of Judgment Day to an actual Resistance fighter. You can hold your own, you can win, but if you're short of staying alert, you WILL die.
This game very much IS the T-800 endoskeleton. You hope it's the beginning of something better, the beneficiary of good sales (thankfully, it seeks like gamers themselves are enjoying it more than the critics,) and sales are reinvested into making this a first game in a series, with muscle comparavle to Arnold's added to beef it up, adding more options, perhaps an open world ratger than open "contained" maps that branch from the hub, better skills, and even more to a story that has ended up being arguably the best in a franchise that's been treading water after T2 hit theaters.
There's "lite" crafting, leveling, skills, NPC reaction to decisions, and so many other options that have taken their cue from bigger FPS/RPG franchises, and while all these simply cannot compete against AAA big budget studios, it's appreciated that it's there at all and hopefully a sign of what the devs would like to grow upon should they find enough success to make a sequel.
And that's part of the issue with small studios attempting to tackle an empire of Hollywood franchises- smaller studios are limited. Appreciating what they've managed to accomplish AS a small studio, rather than critics lambasting them for whats been limited by budget, only threatens to ensure a great effort put into TR won't get expanded upon because critics simply no longer have the ability to think critically or cut some slack where budgets ran dry.

Absolutely give TR a go! Prior to buying it myself, I took to user reviews to aid in my decision. As one person said, "there's Terminator, T2, and then Terminator Resistance as my official "head canon, THAT'S IT". It's not going to win any prestigious awards, but it's clear the devs have love for the film franchise and made tye best Terminator game they could, and it turned out to he one heck of a fun time, blemishes and all.

Good soundtrack it gets quite repetitive at times but it's okay. The game is quite easy but that does not mean you can't die. And now the bad ones well the only bad thing is the outdated graphics Unreal Engine 4 and this is the best they can do? it's disappointing also the facial animations are mediocre and some characters are boring to talk.To sum up overall a great game better than i expected.

tl;dr: an actually good terminator game, wtf.

there is something special with the terminator franchise for kids born in the late 80ies, who grew up with the movies on vhs. something all the movies since T2 failed to capture...until now. As I sat there as a kid, watching the short future war sequence, I always wanted there to be...more. Sadly, it took more than 20 years to deliver.

As I sat there as a kid, watching the short future war sequence, I always wanted there to be...more.

Sadly, it took more than 20 years to deliver. But as I started the game, and heard the still awesome soundtrack, it finally arrived. It's hard to describe how I felt inside, once I had to hide from the first T800, with that pumping machine drone sound in the background and with a completely useless weapon in my hand.

Later in the game, you reach a resistance hideout and it looked so...right. I instantly started to look for a burning tv set...and I found it...I was finally there....*tears up*

Still, if you want to be really honest, this is a just-above-mediocre oldschool shooter. The KI isn't good, and the animations of the non-terminator npcs look quite clunky, but I don't care. This is what I always wanted, since Kyle Reese told me about the dogs.

    7/10 for pure gameplay
11/10 for any oldschool terminator fan.

- Extremely dull enemy AI. Enemies will either 1) stand still and shoot at you, or 2) walk directly towards you and shoot at you, In either case having very little to no interest in avoiding damage.
    - Enemies are hard to kill, which makes in-universe sense but doesn't work well together with the dull AI.
    - Overly long reload cycles and general unresponsiveness in throwing grenades and similar.
    - Lazy old-school player deaths resetting all progress including loot you've recently picked up, items you've recently crafted and voice lines you've already heard causing a distinct feeling of wasted time.
    - Hilarious sex scene.

But what it nails is expanding the terminator narrative in a way that nothing has done since Terminator 2: Judgement Day. The facial animations may come off as primitive, and the voice acting isn't great, but the story is good enough and the atmosphere is immersive enough, that I just don't care.

The gunplay is proficient, but not excellent. The enemies are tough, but not bullet sponges. The weapons are diverse and interesting. By the time you get bored with your allotment, more are on the way. The skill tree is sufficient for the game, with little of it going to waste. The game has no open world bloat from collectables or meaningless upgrades. There are no micro transactions of any kind.

The only true tragedy of this game is there isn't enough of it. It cries out for an expansion pack, a sequel or something. Because I was filled with horror when I hit max level in the game. I knew the game was ending soon. And I was not ready to be done with it. But the last mission was so good, and cemented my love for the game even more. Because it seamlessly linked into the beginning of Terminator and Terminator 2. It was the perfect way to end the game.

Certainly it's not the colors. Because, well, duh, if you depict a bleak future, it's just that - BLEAK.
Certainly it's not microtransactions or skins or anything like that. Because there's none of that here.
Certainly it's not "procedurally generated survival roguelike horror with crafting" or somesuch nonsense. Because while there's crafting in the game, it's not strictly necessary. I think you can finish the game without resorting to crafting, if you want to. And every level is meticulously crafted by hand.

What's left? Gameplay, story and emotion.
The core gameplay mechanics are engaging as hell. You start off being weak and afraid and scavenging for hours on end trying not to cross paths with machines, and every time you stumble into an encounter, it's a challenge. But not so much a challenge that you become Sir Die-a-lot. Then you grow, learn, become cocky and start dying more... And by the end you are a seasoned veteran who learned all the ropes, chose a playstyle that suits you best and drop terminators by the dozen (and even bigger things . You can rush or take it slow. You can stealth it or go in guns blazing ("MY FACE IS MY SHIELD!" intensifies). You can just blow everything up. Your choice. All options are valid.

Story-wise, the game does great by doing what recent movies fail to do. IT STAYS TRUE AND RESPECTFUL OF THE CORE STORY, building on it and expanding but never contradicting or compromising. Given how much timey-wimey stuff is included in the core story, this is hard to pull off, and the game does it just fine.
Yes, it could do better at making some of the NPCs more than cardboard cutouts... but at the very least you can resonate with the story of your non-silent protagonist, and grasp the motivations of main driving personalities behind the plot, and apply your own knowledge of the universe to serendipitously influence the decisions your character made... and then you even are justified in-game for doing that. Won't spoil further, but this is actually good.

Thank you for making this game, Teyon.

If you watched the opening of the first Terminator film, man against machine in the urban apocalyptic hellscape, and thought, "This looks amazing. I want more of this," well, this is the game for you.

The game builds upon and ties into the first two Terminator films (you know, the GOOD ones), though it's mostly fixated on its own story. You play as Jacob Rivers, a Resistance soldier who has to sneak and shoot his way through the ruins of California to protect the last survivors and turn the tide against Skynet before its military wipes humanity from the face of Earth. Along the way, you'll build relationships and make a few tough choices that determine how your story ends. My first playthrough looks to have been about 15-16 hours, and as soon as I'm done with this review I'm starting my second playthrough.

At its core, this is a first person stealth shooter. Over the game, Jacob will have access to a wide arsenal of weapons and tools, from handguns and rifles of the late 20th century to plasma rifles, missile launchers, improvised grenades, tripmines, and even specialized knives designed to bring down Terminators in one stab (if you're brave enough to get close enough to use it). There's a modest weapon customization system as well to build your plasma weapons to suit your needs, as well as a simple crafting system to turn the junk of the Californian wasteland into the gear you need to survive.

But Jacob is only human, and the best way past a kill squad of Terminators is rarely straight through it. You'll have to take advantage of the world around you to set traps and ambushes, sneak past tougher threats, or run away if you get in over your head. The environments are well designed to suit multiple playstyles, which fits well with the game's RPG leveling system that broaden Jacob's capabilities to handle dangers. Still, this a game about playstyle rather than numbers, so you don't need to worry too much about not being able to sneak if you don't put any points into Stealth. Enemy variety is pretty good, and each enemy requires its own approach. Level design alternates between linear set-piece missions and non-linear exploration, with frequent returns to hideouts to talk to other survivors and gear up for the next outing.

The game is well optimized, only giving me a few rare stutters on the highest settings on my four-year-old laptop. It's not the most graphically-advanced game, but it does a great job presenting the aesthetics of the films (much like Alien: Isolation did with the film Alien). The voice acting rides the line between okay and pretty good, while the sound effects and music are simply spectacular.

I have very few complaints about this game. The story and characters could have benefitted from a bit more effort, and it would have been neat to get some unique encounters with especially dangerous Terminators. But I was grinning ear-to-ear the entire time I played this game. I'd give it a 9.5/10, which I'm more than happy to round up to 10/10. Teyon deserves a lot of praise for making this terrific game, and I very strongly recommend it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think this game is really enjoyable. The way you pictured the world after Judgement day in the Terminator Universe. So its a nice experience. I played it on hard difficulty, it has real challanges until the end. Some remarks:
    1. Yes, it is linear and it does not take a genius to figure out the plot twists, they are quite simple. At first I tought the twist would be like in Terminator Salvation (the stranger that helps the protagonist could have been also a cyborg), but they played safer. Levels can be explored easily. Although the game would have became more difficult recurring enemies would have raised the anxiety level and tension in the game. This way you can just sweep the levels clean and be sure that you won't encounter anymore Skynet units.
    2. The mini games (lock picking and hacking) are real fun, and I also liked the upgrade function of the guns with chips.
    3. The characters do not look nice, they are mostly brick faced people. Skynet units though look good.
    4. The AI is pretty dumb. At the first levels you can simply hide in houses because the Terminators patrol the streets, they do not come in. This AI flaw is compensated on some levels with brutal power. At the last levels you (on hard difficulty) it takes a second to be terminated. There are some levels that are real fun because you can outsmart (with stealth kills etc.) the Skynet units, but there are also battlefield levels on which you can only rely on your guns (less fun to me).
    5. You can sleep with Baron and Jessica, but the sex is really cringy :D
    6. The saving system is crap. You have to reach saving points to activate an autosave option. Otherwise on some levels there are computers in the rooms where you can save your progress. This is really demotivating, I think it is a really bad way to add more difficulty to a game.
    7. Overall it is enjoyable, it looks old, the plot is quite simple but logical.

Indeed half of the time it feels like Fallout lite: not the best combat, muddy textures, weird lighting and to many same looking cabinets to loot.
But in-between this game shines with a decent atmosphere, a solid story which fits well into the Terminator 1+2 world and many references to those movies.
Actually i had a lot of fun with Terminator Resistance although im not a franchise

Actually i had a lot of fun with Terminator Resistance although im not a franchise fan, but i cant oversee the downsides and give a nostalgic 10 out of 10. Overall it's just ok.

I really like Terminator: Resistance because of story telling, soundtrack, graphics and the "end of days feeling". Because of too much grinding and too less thrilling moments I give it 8/10.

Шутер на крепкую четвёрку, но я ставлю, как принято здесь-10, хотя он и далёк от идеала

This game has become my most favourite game of all time and I've been gaming since 1990. My game of all time used to be System Shock 2. My game of all time used to be System Shock 2. The reason is that the lovemaking with Jennifer was so profound and passionately made with high production value for a low budget game that it actually got me emotional. Also the Music is one if not the best I've seen in a game. The story is top-notch and deserves recognition. The acting is very good and did get me emotional at times. The fps is well made for a budget game and crafting and gathering materials is rewarding. The graphics are not the best in 2D but looks impressive in the legacy 3D vision. I loved playing this game and I didn't feel ripped off at all for the 18 euros I paid on a special sale. I wish I had paid full price to support the devs, perhaps buying a friend a copy will suffice. This is my game of the year in 2021 as I finished this year only. The Teyon Studios is promising and I hope they don't lose touch with their passion in producing games like Terminator: Resistance. A warning thought.. be careful and thoughtful about your choices near the end as that will impact your ending in a big way. Expand

Terminator: Resistance shows a bunch of potential, even if it doesn't always meet it. I was happily surprised with deeper than expected progression, and great dialogue and relationship building. But playing the game I feel stuck in the past, with visuals from yesteryear meeting good but standard gunplay. The worst part is watching the newest piece, the Annihilation Line DLC, take a step back. The Wolfenstein series does better in this sub-genre, but Terminator: Resistance is still a lot of fun to play, which says something about where it could go if Teyon gets another shot.

As a shooter, Resistance is rather mediocre. But as a Terminator game, it's great. [Issue#244, p.52]

Boasts about all of its additional mechanics but it doesn’t quite pull off being a regular shooter while looking like from a decade ago. [01/2020, p.56]
