Perfectly encapsulating the Paul Verhoven film, Starship Troopers: Terran Command strikes the right balance of cheesy and challenging, at least in the latter missions. While it doesn’t have multiplayer or a scenario editor, the single player is a blast. We’ll fight, and we’ll win, I just wish my troopers weren’t so dumb while we do it. Oh well, more meat for the grinder.

We loved Starship Troopers: Terran Command, despite some limitations in the campaign. It is completely focused on the single player, a rarity these days.

A very nice depiction of the imaginary war torn reality created by Heinlein. A feisty strategy game that isn't afraid to try new things. It's not perfect, perhaps, but for the price it's a very good package.

The development team at The Artistocrats have taken the time to craft a game that is a wonderful blend of the film and novel universe that makes for a fun journey through the world of Kwalasha.

Although it’s not very impressive as far as graphics are concerned, this old-school tactical RTS is a game that all fans of Paul Verhoeven’s "Starship Troopers” are going to enjoy.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command shows how hard it can be to use a cult status intellectual property and make a good video game out of it. The core mechanics are solid, but the narrative is mediocre, and the presentation fails to impress. There’s fun in finding new ways to kill bugs but there’s not enough variety. The game lacks multiplayer. The development team at The Artistocrats played it too safe. The idea that unit positioning is crucial should have been explored in greater depth, alongside the combined arms elements. Terran Command offers a solid strategy experience but I would not recommend it to anyone who is not a fan of Starship Troopers.

It may not have the same teeth or originality as the satirical film it’s based on, but Starship Troopers: Terran Command is still a whole lot of exciting bug-squashing fun.

I don’t think Starship Troopers: Terran Command does much new in the real-time strategy genre, but the use of the license gives real flavour to the solid meal that the gameplay provides. Plus, a good bug hunt never goes out of style.

If brainless fun is what you are looking for, look no more. Starship Troopers: Terran Command is light on strategic elements but delivers the feeling of being part of the mobile infantry, as made famous by Paul Verhoeven’s movie and Robert Heinlein’s novel.

Exterminate bugs and don’t think too hard. Those are the centrepoints of an honest, simplistic action strategy with deep reverence for its source material. It could use better graphics and AI, though.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command is most certainly the game of the film. It gives off the same feel like the film and sticks very close to the source material with the use of bugs, the actions of the empire and the tactics of the Mobile Infantry; all that is an unequivocal positive. However, there are a few issues in gameplay. It feels like an older strategy game than it is, lacking some modern sensibilities, limited game modes, and featuring poor pathfinding. Still, despite these issues, it is a genuinely fun and strategic title that fans of the franchise will thoroughly enjoy, and general strategy fans should also enjoy.

Not necessarily a great strategy game on its own, but still a charming budget title that treats its license with respect and delivers some of the best Starship Troopers action we've seen in any video game so far.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command is an interesting experience. It doesn’t do anything particularly original, or push the RTS genre in any way, but it perfectly mimics the aesthetic and humour of the original film, making for a pleasant, if somewhat frustrating RTS experience.

The fundamental element of dealing with countless alien bugs is well displayed, as well as the 19 chapters long single play campaigns are satisfying, whereas everything else is lacking. No multiplayer and unable to play other factions makes you don't have to play it again.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command does a pretty good job of paying homage to the films, at least in terms of design and presentation. As a real time strategy game, it feels defined by limitations and absent features like multiplayer, map editor, skirmishes and the ability to turn off the omnipresent commander. Gameplay can be challenging and fun, but here, too, dumb unit AI and lack of variety inhibit next-level enjoyment. Both fans of the film and squad-based RTS games will find something to appreciate, provided they don’t come to the experience with super-high expectations.

While the gameplay brings nothing new to the RTS slate, and sometimes feels surpassed by games that came out a decade ago, it has just enough to propel you through its reasonably short experience. With any luck, you'll have your fill by then, because that's all there is. Replayability is virtually non-existent. There’s no multiplayer, no skirmish mode (yet), and no reasonable reason to revisit missions. It's a self-contained experience that ultimately accomplishes most of what it sets out to do: provide a fun human mulch simulator that will almost make fans forget about three substandard sequels to a fun film by capturing the old magic. Unfortunately the emphasis there is on "old."

The quality of fan service is simply breathtaking, so it’s a must for any fan of the cult classic movie. Still, as a game, Terran Command offers nothing new. Even less, in fact: there’s no multiplayer, map editor or even a skirmish mode, so once you’re done – you’re done. [Issue#260, p.54]

Although faithful to the 1997 movie, Starship Troopers: Terran Command as an RTS is not consistently enjoyable. Despite some good defensive sequences, its path-finding issues, bland missions, and excessive micromanagement bury some of the fun.

A strategy equivalent of a summer blockbuster, wiped from your memory as soon as the credits start rolling. It’s not as intense as Verhoeven’s movie, not as varied or expensive as other games in this genre, a simplified Company of Heroes, if you will.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command makes me feel like I’m doing the same things over and over again but on a different map. The story is just a simple reason to kill more arachnids. You can enjoy the game but definitely play it in short sessions.

As a classic RTS experience, there’s a lot to like about Starship Troopers: Terran Command - especially in terms of translating the look and feel of the action scenes found in the iconic movie into little slices of strategy. Outside of a few pathing glitches and a couple of animation bugs, the biggest problem here is that the default difficulty feels a little too easy in addition to there being not much on offer once you complete the campaign. Without a fleshed out skirmish mode or even something like a co-op mode to take on the Arachnid together, it’s something of a one and done experience. Still, it’s good to do your part because... service guarantees citizenship.

Starship Troopers - Terran Command is an enjoyable addition to the RTS game genre, especially for franchise fans. The title fails to introduce revolutionary changes that set it apart from its competitors but offers a new sci-fi adventure. Its characters aren't particularly memorable, and its glitches keep it from becoming a masterpiece, but Starship Troopers - Terran Command delivers on its most basic promises. Fans of the best RTS games could receive a pleasant addition to their gaming collections, while movie fans can experience enjoyable callbacks to a beloved franchise.

If you love 1997’s Starship Troopers or the franchise as a whole, you’ll love being able to command your own Mobile Infantry in Terran Command. Whilst this isn’t the strongest strategy game around, it is still an RTS worth a punt, especially if all you want to do is destroy endless waves of bugs. It's an exciting addition to the Starship Troopers franchise which clearly still has its audience so many years after the release of that first movie, and even more since Robert A Heinlein's inspirational novel, which is now a mighty 63 years young. Make Star Wars look positively pipsqueaky.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command is an intricate RTS that would have set the world on fire 20 years ago. Now it’s a reminder of how far strategy games have come. Terran Command will scratch the itch for someone wanting a retro experience, and it sure looks the part, but god is it dull.
