Now for my take: the game is indeed vast. So much to do if you're into storytelling, true RPG mechanics, and fun. I've enjoyed all of the time I've spent in-game thus far and am sure this will keep me busy for months/years to come. Excellent work BGS.

Bethesda makes a game, Microsoft buys Bethesda, morons with a Playstation get sad and plan on twitter to review bomb the game, because they can't accept people, especially Xbox Users, are playing a videogame that isn't either an Ubisoft open world clone with more money spent (Horizon, SpiderMan) or an over the shoulder linear action adventure game (God of War, Last of Us, Uncharted etc).Bethesda makes a game, Microsoft buys Bethesda, morons with a Playstation get sad and plan on twitter to review bomb the game, because they can't accept people, especially Xbox Users, are playing a videogame that isn't either an Ubisoft open world clone with more money spent (Horizon, SpiderMan) or an over the shoulder linear action adventure game (God of War, Last of Us, Uncharted etc).

If you'd like to play a videogame where you have fun, playing a Bethesda game is one of best bets, and Starfield is now the best Bethesda game (although Oblivion will always have a special place in my heart). If you prefer to have Sony spend millions in motion capture to hide the fact that the gameplay in most of their games, the only thing that should actually matter, is just not fun... fine, go play that, just leave the reviews alone.

I think this game deserves a 10. I have about 20 hours in so far, it's amazing that there is so much in this game to do. Seeing what people discover and talk about online makes me realize how little I've even done yet. Very surprised to see the user score so low, feels like it's just something for people to complain about. Virtually no bugs for me, and my first foray into a Bethesda game.I think this game deserves a 10. I have about 20 hours in so far, it's amazing that there is so much in this game to do. This is the deepest sandbox exploration game since Fallout 2. It is a legit space exploration that helps you to understand which star system is located where and which planets surround it. A lot of great fun exploring, shooting on the ground, and shooting in space. It has an amazing starship builder tool to build your unique spaceship.

    Pros:
    • The game is huge, I'm typically finishing games within 100 hours, but I'm 120 hours in and still barely explored the game.
    • Great side quests that feel like main quests.
    • Great selection of weapons.
    • Impactful skills that help me to focus on exploration rather than shooting everything.
    • Powerful custom spaceship builder.
    • Amazing sound and music, I mean it's so good I keep music in the background for my work.
    • Interesting sci-fi story with space explorers, space pirates, political struggle, aliens, and artifacts.

    Cons:
    • Graphics look dated on the console, like 4 years dated.
    • Characters don't have depth to them.
    • A lot of recycled content in different locations.
    • Too many loading screens and loading is slow even on fast SSD.

Bethesda is back to what they do best, making wonderful game worlds for people to do there thing in. I wanted to be slick talking space cowboy and I have been able to do that more than I was expecting!

The game does have issues, such as the map and UI being trash and performance needing improvement, but everything else is top notch. This is my second favorite game of the year for 2023, behind Baldurs Gate 3.

Have played 52 hours of Starfield so far and LOVE IT! Bethesda is back baby!

This game is the pinnacle of open world gaming. So many fleshed out factions. The game economy is engrossing and well thought out as well. I remember 3rd person basically being immersion breaking in Morrowind. Because your character looked like it was moonwalking. LOL. In Starfield The Lipsyncing is great and in 3rd person your character is firmly planted to the ground and perfectly positioned. To finally make 1st and 3rd person options equally viable ways to play. From the first mission on Kreet I was hooked absorbing all the environmental storytelling about the Terrormorph. And then joining the Vanguard and getting an Aliens 3 styled Quest right from the start. The game is incredible. Todd Howard and his fantastic team really made the game of a generation. And I thank them for it. Expand

I am NOT going to review the technical side of the game. It's not perfect, but, that said...it is by far the BEST Bethesda release I have played in my lifetime.

Starfield is great. Simple. If you loved Skyrim, Fallout 4 you will love this. It's right there. The whole space aspect is more of a backdrop than a core mechanic. But it works (For me) and I am having the best time

The best way to describe it is: 'It's Fallout 4 in Space" Basicly.

I have had NO gamebreaking bugs. Game runs at a solid 40-50 FPS on my RTX3070. Is that perfect? hell no. BUt its playable. And I am certain that future patches and optimizations will bring that number up further.

I rate this game a solid 8/10. It works for me. And I sunk 30-ish hours into it already.

This is what we have been asking for years! If you are a Skyrim + Oblivion + Mass Effect fan, you will love this game! Takes around 15 hours into the main story to really grasp with the vibe of the game. At first it is just overwhelming but once you get past that, it is the greatest sandbox RPG Sci-Fi game ever!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's FO4 in space. If you liked FO4, or Skyrim, it's that, but better, bigger, less buggy, better looking and generally improved in every sense. And yes, it has the mod platform that made everyone happy. Yes, there's already SkyUI and THOSE mods.

WARNING: The sheer scale of it makes the game slow to start and it has very little handholding. Either this is for you or it isn't. 1000 planets. The mid planets take an hour to do. Rich planets can take 10. THIS TAKES TIME.

I have no idea why people compare this to other space games. It was never going to be Fortnite, it was never going to be Elite Dangerous. It's made by Bethesda. You're getting a Bethesda RPG. Through and through.

And I hate to see it, maybe the review trend will turn, but for now it's enveloped in people complaining that mechanics that are in the game aren't in the game. This is an RPG. You need to put points in Piloting to be able to pilot. You need to put points into jetpack to get traversal and fly. And you need to be 30 hours in to start getting superpowers.

So word to the wise, skip reviews that are basically "boring I have it 5 hours, didn't like".
Also skip "it looks terrible" crowd, game self-adjusts quality to maintain framerate so it works on a potato but looks terrible.

The ship builder has been a ton of fun, ship combat feels really nice without being overly complicated. The skills tree is extremely extensive and in depth. The powers have been my least cared about feature since they just aren't very impactful yet. I'm currently on the last story mission, and man I love how the story works here.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
