Bethesda RPG through and through with better story/writing than Fallout 4. I am enjoying myself. Is there improvements to make? Yes. However, every game has its flaws and for a Bethesda RPG fan like myself I expected nothing else but what I got with Starfield. A regression in story telling and curiosity a cat would rather sleep on. An upside-down iceberg. not even the npcs can hold a straight face when todd said 1000x the planets. Fortunately for todd, there are plenty of fellow starfield npcs irl that will lap it all up.

Graphically beautiful bethesda experience. Standard gunplay that improves technically while regresses in scope*.

Sadly it’s been very uninspired. Bethesda has a history of reinventing itself and setting new standards. This game has so much potencial, but it feels like fallout3 in space instead of the next amazing thing

So this is my honest opinion of the game.

Judging by mixed review scores it's fair to say it's an either take it or leave it game. I'm not the biggest rpg gamer but i put a lot of hours into Skyrim and Fallout 4 and absolutely loved both. I don't usually buy premium editions of anything but I did with this. Why? No idea just impulse and the fact that on Steam it would be fully moddable.

So what do I think of the game? Absolutely loving it. Theres just so much to do. I've got 60+ hours now and I have no idea whether I'm near end game or not. At first controlling the spaceship was hilariously bad but now it's clicked and dogfights vs multiple ships feels like I know what I'm dong here now. Gunfights are good with multiple weapons. It really is one of those games where you think I'll play for an hour or two and before you know it double or triple that has gone and you haven't really done anything.
    - 1 point for the menu system which is far to confusing for it's own good and not very well optimised (yet).

Bugs - Only encountered a few but they usually just make you laugh in a Bethesda way. What other RPG can you put a bucket on someone's head? That's a win for me.

Edit the women are pig ugly. Fixable with mods so not an issue.

I'm having a blast with Starfield. Don't be misled by comparisons to Fallout or No Man's Sky. Expect to spend a few hours learning the game loop without preconceived notions. Once you get into it, the experience speaks for itself.

Needs 10 more years of development with the most recent game engine. In its current state, Starfield has barely no optimizations and needs a 2030 computer setup to run properly. Bethesda also needs to kick her CEO out. At least I got my refund.

Made by company which should of stopped existing if not after F4, then after F76 for sure, since being a company once producing actually good games, by F76 timeline they turned into lazy, sloppy, simply unprofessional something that truly despise their fans.
Fault is on players who being spit into face by Todd, wipe and praise spit taste and keep giving Bethesda their money.
So, comparing Starfield to F4 or F76 - and anyone who played those, you WILL have flashbacks and feeling of deja vu - with outdated animation, brain-dead dialogs, textures basically coping F4, just with removed Fallout spirit, and many more - at least in Fallout series was Fallout lore and Universe, maimed by Beth, but thank you God created by better people; in Starfield you got none. Only BORING, UNIMAGINATIVE, GENERIC story and playthru. Oh, and if you thought in Elder Scrolls was bad UI - wait for this one. Sure, if modders will get hold of it, certain things will get improved by them in time, but no thanks to Bethesda, as usual. So do gaming world a favour - stop giving them money they didn`t deserve, then, and only then, Bethesda might stop selling you refurbished old crap for $130.
Ps: they must pay well to bots and bots masters to leave here those 10/10 "reviews" - that part is laughable really. if you are actually a living person with own brain - have a read those and have a chuckle - same copy-and-paste generic sentences, half of which doesn`t even make sense, guess AI still no match for the humans:))

A trite and often bland experience that I had a hard time bringing myself to keep playing. So much of what you do in Starfield gives you major "been there, done that" vibes and for good reason. A trite and often bland experience that I had a hard time bringing myself to keep playing. So much of what you do in Starfield gives you major "been there, done that" vibes and for good reason. So little of the game is an improvement on FO4, and unfortunately there's even some steps backwards in terms of the quality of the writing and the interest of exploring the unknown.

    My main gripes:
Lack of weaponry, especially melee weapons. New Vegas had power fists/claws, ripper swords, shiskebab, super sledge, and many other interesting weapons. You'd think a game set 300 years in the future would have even more interesting options, but sadly, that's not the case. Just a very paltry amount of mundane weaponry that already exists, with the best melee weapon being a small cestus looking dagger. Bland and boring.

The main quest writing and pacing is pretty abysmal. It makes an awful first impression by quickly throwing you from mining on a planet, to forced into space with a plot that makes little sense narratively. While some side content has better writing, the main quest instantly puts a bad taste in your mouth.

Exploration is kneecapped by overuse of fast travel. There's usually very little reason to want to explore anywhere. A thousand planets with so few feeling unique in any way. Once you've cleared the exact same complex three times, you'll get so sick of the monotony of it you'll never want to explore again. Which is a shame, since some actual good hand-made content is hidden in the morass of mediocrity. They somehow make a game that takes place in a massive galaxy feel even smaller and less interesting than their games that are just one planet or continent.

Starfield isn't a terrible game, and I'd score it higher if it didn't feel like a regression in many ways of the traditional Bethesda rpg formula. Unforutnately, it just feels very dated now. The Creation Engine 2 feels like a creaky, old, relic that still can't deliver action that's not clunky, AI that's not shockingly braindead, or expressive character models that don't look gawky and ugly.

Just a painfully average game, and that doesn't cut it.

But let me be clear, the game have one certain aspect could catch up with modern background game like half life 1, that is its level design, you climb a ladder and loading, you go through a corridor and loading, you enter a building and get more than one loading.

Gameplay is utterly boring and flat, it does not offer a fraction of loops available in NMS, except NMS was a creation of tiny indie developer, not a 7+B USD 1st party studio. WTF Space

The devs took the open world majesty of Skyrim and compartmentalized the excitement of space exploration into walled in mini games.

REVIEW: Starfield is an odd game. It looks last gen but with some fancy lighting. The same awful facial animation is back but this time the story sucks. As does the voice acting. Which is a shame as I presumed Bethesda would have ironed out the quirks and jank after so many many years and so much money.

It runs fine though digital foundry will tell you not all cards run it equally. You'll get 60 ish fps on 1080p on a mid range card like a 2080. Its a little glitchy but one of the better launched for Bethesda. But this isn't a cheap game so we shouldn't act as unpaid PR teams for a AAA studio which has a habit of misleading fans and starfield is no different. Its not quite what they promised. After Redfail I had hoped MS would have insisted on only releasing games when they're ready. Starfield may have benefited from more time or even a redesign. As it lacks many basic options on all versions including FOV. So mods are once again freely fixing the many issues (cyberpunk style).

The game world is like 970 empty procedurally generated planets and 20 decent ones and 10 good ones. Its like a poor mans mass effect merged with no man's sky though inferior to both. It tries so hard to be all these better games but fails to be any of them or even it's own thing. But I feel with a year of official hard work and free dlc and mods then it could become something better. It will never be Skyrim in space as it's not a seamlessly open world game. As said at it's core it's an elaborate loading screen sim but it's the best one ever made!

So I have waited for a long time for this game. Is there things that can be improved absolutely. The story is great, and the game is not near as buggy. The copy and paste dungeons was the final nail in the coffin for me. I would recommend against purchasing this Bethesda installment as the experience feels entirely lesser compared to past titles made by Bethesda. Oh, and the loading screens... don't get me started on that one. Save yourself the pain.

Starfield - The talking and inventory management sim. 90% of your play time will be split doing these two things. The other 10% will be doing you know, the fun stuff. Good if you like games heavy on the dialogue and shuffling inventory items about every few minutes.. The very liberal fast travel and many, many loading screens take away any immersion.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
