It throws alot at you right away and dosent really explain much in the beginning and it can be intimidating therefore making the opening hours a little slow but you will have your "everything clicks" moment if you continue down the main Quest for a little while.
the space map can take a little while to get used to, random NPCs look ugly the space travel might not be what some expect.
Space travel is more mass effect then it is
    no man's sky
But still the universe bethesda has built is an immersive one, it is bethesdas most polished game to date and honestly possibly their best game to date.
If you like western RPGs and older Bethesda games you owe it to yourself to give the game a try

This is the only game to give me the “Skyrim-feel” since Skyrim. Bethesda knocked it out the park with this one. If you go into it expecting a seemless space sim, then you won’t like it, because that’s not what it is. It is, rather, a bethesda RPG, if you’re a fan of their formula (which I very much am) then you’ll love this game.

The stories that are being told are simple amazing and the best work bethesda has done. Everytime i stop i want to play more and get back in. there is so much to do and the game is huge. For every quest you complete you get 4 more in return. also the game has a lot of hearth and it can be very cozy and immersive. And the attention to detail is insane. You can see they hired the dude from the skyrim clutter mod because every item you can pick up looks amazing. I am currently collecting monster plushies and coffee mugs. But...

It does struggle on my pc. With a 3700x and a 2080TI i thought i could handle it. I was wrong. i can barely get 60fps on 1440p on high and ultra with fsr in outside zones. Still even at 30 fps its playable and you dont really notice it. the graphics do look good but i feel not that good for bringing my 2080ti to its knees already. The other gripe i have is the exploration and space travel. I expected more of a space sim. But it is really a bethesda rpg. think about skyrim or fallout in space. Once i accepted that the exploration became fun again. All the other critisim like facial expressions and all the other things you hear really dont bother me.

Anyway, i love the game. the easter eggs and attention to detail is amazing and you should experience this.

In this instance, it's a Bethesda game which is attempting to be peak Bethesda (in a positive way), and in that it succeeds.

Slowly unlocking and tinkering with weapons through the modification system has also been very satisfying, same with the suit and pack system. Ship customization, while I haven't dove as deep into, is also well thought out and allows for a huge variety of different builds. its not my GOTY, BG3 already locked that up. but fills a particular niche that isn't found elsewhere, and I keep wanting to come back and play more. In some area's the game feels like GTA in space, in some other like Fallout in space. Another cool thing is space combat and docking your ship, entering spaceships and killing pirates. I'm slightly disappointed in space travel, as the game doesn't seem to have seamless space exploration, but this isn't a major problem for me. I haven't experienced any problem with the tiles. The regions are massive, they feel as big as GTA4's Liberty City...in one of my play sessions it took me 40+ minutes to reach a space station on Mars...from the borders of Cydonia City....i expected the infamous boundary message but didn't. In all fairness, even seamless exploration is a topic of discussion, you can technically fly to planets if you want but it takes hours (there's an example of a Youtuber flying to Pluto, it kinda works..kinda doesn't..). Other things i love about the game, FPS/third Person shooting gameplay..ship building, base building, doing story missions & side-missions, exploring lifeless planets and taking photo's. The game has it all. I think Starfield is a great game but has some minor flaws..this is why i can't give the game a 10/10. My overall score for Starfield is 9/10. Expand

But also abuses of ray tracing, everything in Atlantis looks like ceramic

Thus I can't believe so awful optimization, it can run al least 30% better. There are another games with much better quality and less load game screens. I'm getting almost the same fps as in series S but another games runs at double

-2 Lacks of minimap and procedural generation. We have seen much better procedural generation in another games like No Man's Sky

And if you would have said that their first new IP in 25 years would be a space game, I would also probably laugh because obviously it would have been either a new Fallout game (which only came out 2 years later) and then the next Elder Scrolls game. At the time, this was Their bread and butter, release an Elder Scrolls game, the release a Fallout game. Boy would I have been so embarrassed now if that had happened. Of course 2016 is when the rumors began with the copyright of the name Starfield being made and the subsequent subreddit being created 7 years ago in September 1st (the day Early Access started for those of us who bought the Premium or Constellation editions). 2018 brought the reveal at E3, and along the way we were drip-fed more info between 2018 and 2022. Now, after all this time it’s here, and it’s worth checking out.

This game, make no mistake, is not perfect. It had some of the usual Bethesda jank. It doesn’t look the best, it doesn’t run the smoothest, the character models leave a lot to be desired at times, and boy oh boy do some of the systems feel like they were lifted out of the now 12 year old Skyrim, tweaked for this setting, and plopped right in to this game. Creation Engine 2 feels old. And the Exploration, well, let’s just say No Man’s Sky or Star Citizen it is not. But that’s okay, it doesn’t have to be perfect to be good, and this game is definitely good.

If you come into this game expecting something like Skyrim or Fallout in Space, and without the aspirations of being a No Man’s Sky or Star Citizen killer, then you will likely have a good time. The Main Story from what I have played of it so far is good, and I will leave it at that to avoid spoilers. However, side content is the name of the game here. Sometimes I feel like I can’t go 10 minutes without getting yet another side quest or activity to do that is added to my list of side quests and activities I have yet to do. The content just seems to never end. Some of these activities and side quests it can be repetitive. However, others will take you down interesting rabbit holes and following them can be rewarding.

Now, if we move past the quests alone, you also have hundreds of planets to explore, and while there are boundaries and other things that break immersion such as not being able to fly down to the planet on your own, it isn’t all bad either. The landscapes you get to actually visit are larger than the map of Skyrim in all the the cases I have seen, and you can go to multiple on each planet (I believe the max limit is 4-5). Once again, this isn’t No Man’s Sky, this is a BGS game, and it’s already taxing enough on your system. Now, if the exploration of this game doesn’t seem all that great to you, the combat is pretty decent, better than any BGS game before. You can of course find many amazing and powerful weapons in the world, or you can research mods to improve stock weapons or change modded weapons (the term mod here is different, as I mean you can customize your weapon with add-ons that improve the weapons stats and usefulness in certain situations). The enemy AI isn’t perfect, but it’s good enough to have a decent time in combat. Speaking of research, you can research a number of things for crafting and outpost buildings, using resources you find and collect in the world to complete the research. Use this research to your advantage to craf items to use to restore health, cure any ailments you might have, whether it be physical bodily harm inflicted on you or illnesses that you might receive. Or maybe research and craft items to use for base building and go build an outpost to keep your NPCs at and also use to generate money. Even create cargo shipping links between outposts on different planets.

Speaking of, we can’t forget the shop building. While I haven’t gotten far enough to do either outpost or ship building, what I have seen of it from others looks fun and I can’t wait to get late game to where I am earning credits to do these sorts of activities.

Finally, let’s talk bugs, polish and performance. This game is demanding, it needs powerful hardware to run well, and even then even the best of the best computers can struggle at times. The limit to FSR2 only without mods also hurts performance for those who are on Nvidia cards. Outside of these concerns, performance can be decent with the right hardware. As far as bugs go, there are some, but wow, there are wayyyy less than what we had in previous BGS titles, and hopefully this trend continues for BGS. Overall, based on my rather brief playthrough so far, id give this game a solid A-. If you have Gamepass, give it a shot, it’s included with your membership after all, and if you love it, go to Steam to buy it so that way you can get full mod support.

probably bethesda doesn't give any money to gaming influencers or nvidia pay influencers to start a smear campaign. probably because of starfield comes with hard amd support.

Played 40 hours at the time of this review. I'll be playing this until the release of The Elder Scrolls 6 and beyond.

If you are a space enthusiast and liked Skyrim or Fallout 4, this game is a blast. Lots of handcrafted content, a higher level of polish than past Bethesda games, better writing/story, better animations, better shooting, improved RPG systems with perks and dialogues.

The smallest of the 4 cities I have explored so far is larger than any city in Skyrim or Fallout.

The game starts out slow, the first 5-10 hours serve as an introduction to the systems and characters, then STUFF happens.
This game supports mods like their other titles, and this will give a very long life to this game.

You can fly your ship in space near a celestial body, where you can fight other ships (or talk to them), enter in explorable space stations, discover quests.
It is also possible to dock with an enemy ship to steal it.

Gravity is different on each planet and this affects how far you can jump and use the jetpack. There are zero gravity environments in space.

You can build outposts like in Fallout 4 and you can even create your own spaceship completely from scratch, which can also be explored and interacted on the interior.
There is deep crafting and weapon/armor customization.

As side content there is the possibility to land on all planets (except on gas giants, obviously) and freely explore them (procedurally generated maps that are more or less as large as the Fallout 4 map).

There are classic glitches and crazyness due to the Creation Engine, but less this time. Most are harmless.

Making the cities so big led to compromises in the realism of the NPCs (I no longer see routines like in Skyrim, for example at night the NPCs stay in the shops, probably because the local time changes between one planet and another and it would have been a pain to have to wait every time).
There are many generic npcs in the capitals that simulate crowds, a bit like in Cyberpunk 2077 or GTA.

    Downsides:

-PC optimization is NOT good. If you want to play it at a stable frame rate (60fps) you MUST have a powerful PC with an SSD.

-The enemies's AI is broken, even in Fallout 4 was better.

-Moving from one planet to another as well as landing and taking off require frequent loading screens (fortunately they are very fast).

PSA: IT IS NOT a space simulator like Elite Dangerous nor something like No Man Sky, but it is a role-playing game with procedurally generated exploratory components as a backdrop.

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
