Why I buy a Starcraft, and I play in masses effect 3? It is plagiarism. Even Amun's bombing is very similar to bombing of the Reaper. I am very disappointed, after all it is the end of history and it has to be unique.

Review: The newest addition of the starcraft 2 universe continues the last major race storyline. The game consists of very similar level designs to the previous installment, and although more repeatative than heart of the storm, the flow and feel of the levels is more refined.

For those expecting a graphical experience this is very dissapointing. Any moving object has hard to look at lines during all types of cutscenes no amount of heightened graphic settings can fix how low polygon the models are and how low resolution the textures are. Beautiful backdrops and loading pages but the quality of the custcenes really ruins the immersion.

For a game that already had most of the assets including a fully functional engine I would expect them to put more effort into the elements that they still had to work on. The level design is slightly better and the story feels more immersive than Heart of the Swarm, but worse than the first installment. Seems Blizzard has started cutting corners in the past 2 years.

    My minor critiques:
    - For an ending sequel, I expected more majestic and grand-scale cutscenes, as I have come to expect from Blizzard.
    - Too many levels have 'destroy these three small structures to destroy this final big structure' theme. A bit more variety was needed for level types.
    - A longer campaign: I think another 4-5 levels were needed for the game. Ended a bit quickly. I'm saying this having also finished the epilogue.

However, despite these critiques, the game is still a legend. I don't want Starcraft saga to end here though. After waiting 4-5 years, Blizzard should come up with Starcraft 3 series again, with a continuation to the story, rethinking game engine and and new mechanics.

The campaign of LotV is great. It's the best campaign of the three SC II installments by far. I have to admit that I did not like the WoL campaign at all, it felt rather dull. Now with LotV Blizzard finally committed fully to achieve a great campaign - and I can tell you, they succeeded! I especially loved the atmosphere, the characters and the way how they implemented upgrades / unit modifications. Additionally for SC II veterans there finally is some real challenge with the brutal mode, which actually is really brutal.

On top of that Blizzard did extensive modifications and improvements to the multiplayer mode, which make LotV appear like a completly new game instead of just a mere add-on.

In short my faith in Blizzard is re-established with LotV, which is the best RTS game out there.

Highly recommended to anyone who appreciates polished high quality games.

Spoiler alert, if you see Tyreal's wings in your Starcraft, don't panic, all will be well.

All the cut scenes have the usual Blizzard flair, all the dialogue has normal levels of Blizzard pomposity and exposition, the only complaint I would have about the main story is that it feels so good playing that it ends up being too short.

The new Co-op feature is essentially a two vs AI scenario. I had been hoping for a two vs campaign mode - that's the only thing keeping this series from a 10/10 IMHO. Still, if you're reading this review because you're not sure if you should get the game, I'd basically say that if you played Wings of Liberty or Heart of the Swarm, this game is equal to either of them, and if you think the previous two were worth your money, this is as well.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was curious, so I ended up reading some of the negative reviews to see if I should reevaluate how I looked at this game after playing the campaign and looked into the newer additions to the game, co-op missions and whatnot. What I found seemed to be more about people who wanted this game to be something specific, like a StarCraft version of Warhammer 40K or a repeat of Brood War or otherwise people who wanted to be beat over the head with plot as opposed to having to pay attention as they play missions.

Legacy of the Void touches on a lot of themes that previous installments have like the horrors of war, especially in the cut-scene with Artanis and Raynor talking among the graves of the fallen Marines and Kerrigans continued self-loathing regarding the people that she killed when she first became the Queen of Blades. The transformation motif is there as well, most obvious with Kerrigan, but also with the transformation of the Dominion in WoL and the Protoss with the severing of the Khala and the more thorough unification of Khalai and Nerazim Protoss as well as attempts to bring in the Tal'Darim (as well as the Purifiers) in to create a new, more tolerant version of the Protoss theocracy (most notably shown by the abolishment of the caste system).

I will say that in terms of wrapping the series up, the Epilogue felt kinda rushed. The main campaign was about 16 or so missions long and it revolved around Artanis reestablishing the Protoss after Amon decimates it by mind controlling all Khala attached Protoss. Then, the culmination of one game and two expansions is over in three missions (and I suppose Narud/Duran is also a Xel'Naga, but is kinda brushed to the side).

Altogether, if you like StarCraft, you should like this game. If you hated it, you were probably going to hate it no matter what they did. The story could be better, but I felt like the main campaign was engaging and introduced a lot of new stuff for the Protoss as well as shed some light on some stuff that was previously ambiguous. There could've been some improvements, but I felt like this was a very solid game.

While they are fighting each other, Amon forces arrive and start to slay everyone. One world falls after another, and no one seems to be capable of stopping them. The Protoss are also forced to retreat, and leave the system to fight another day.

Legacy of the Void's story is a lot more darker and unpredictable than the first two games in the trilogy.. You can expect a lot of twists and turns in the game, especially towards first half of the game and during epilogue. The game features likable characters. From main character Artanis to supporting cast and favorites from older games, all have great personalities. Another thing that I liked about the story is that, almost every character gets the time to shine, both in story and gameplay. Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void is satisfying end to Starcraft saga. Everything is answered and nothing is left open for sequels. This is THE END of the saga that started over 17 years ago.

    Design:
Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void is the longest game in the trilogy. It took me over 20 hours to finish the campaign. As expect there is a lot of variety in 25 missions of the game. The game really makes you feel like incharge of an advance race or Space Samurais. The number of Protoss is smaller than the Terrans and the Zerg but they are a lot more harder to take down, and they have superior technology and fighting skills.

The game also features Co-op mode this time around, which is designed to encourage new comers to play the game online against others. Upto 2 players can play the game together. You can ask your friend to manage resources, while you command the army against your opponents. It's very useful for teaching new comers how to play when used properly.

Some new units in the game also require more micromanagement than the others. Some of the previous units have also been re-balanced to force people to manage them individually. This re-balancing changes the way, the game is played compared to previous iterations. Now instead of making a large army to launch an attack on opponent's base, the game encourages players to send some of the units early for hit and run tactics. So, action happens a lot faster than before, especially in multiplayer.

    Gameplay:
Formula is the same, that you expect from a traditional RTS. You gather resources, build your base, create an army and attack your enemy. The game offers number of primary and secondary objectives in each mission. Completing these side missions reward you by giving you extra reinforcements during the mission or by giving you Solarites, crystals used to power different abilities of Protoss flagship, Spear of Adun.

Spear of Adun can have upto 4 Active abilities during gameplay and 2 Passive abilities. You can use them to help your units during mission. And since, there are only limited number of Solarites in the game, sometimes you will have to make few compromises to choose that one ability that you want to activate. It's a very clever way of giving you control of great technology, while not making the game too easy.

Spear of Adun also act like your command center, where you choose your next mission, talk to other characters and upgrade your units. There are three versions of these units. You unlock these versions as you go through the story. Each version has its own strengths and weaknesses, so you can choose the version that suits your play style.

There are also some missions, where you don't build your base or army. In these missions you take control of Heroes, and use their special abilities at the right time to defeat enemies. Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void is a well balanced game. Protoss warriors have great technology but the game still offers plenty of challenge, and rewards creativity.

    Presentation:
On Ultra settings the game looks great. Character models are highly detailed and well animated. The voice acting is also top notch. Important scenes in the game are backed by great performances and orchestral soundtrack. Sound effects are also top of the line, as expected. The game is a lot more cinematic than the first two games.

There are way more cutscenes than previous games in the series. Some cutscenes are real-time, while others are pre-rendered. Both of these real-time and pre-rendered cutscenes look great. You visit number of different locations in the Starcraft universe, and all of them look unique and different from one another.

    Verdict:
Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void is a must own for everyone. It is a satisfying conclusion to an epic saga. Even if there is Starcraft 3 someday, I highly doubt we'll see these characters return in that game, and that's the saddest part. It's like being with a friend for a long time and then seeing him/her go away, never to return. It's beautiful and sad at the same time.

    Score:
    9.5/10

the new multiplayer Co-OP mode is also a new evolution from the old ladder, removing anxiety and a better community with promises of more expansion soon.

if i must say anything bad, it will be the epilogue's content should had been longer.

I saw polt on stream, when he hasn't mmr yet and played in lower leagues, losing to protoss diamond repeatly, because this strategy is unbeatable, you can also start with pylon rush and mothership core and you kill like 2 depos or bunker and force baracks back rebuild addons, just insane dmg.
Protoss's carriers are unbeatable unit, since they can release interceptors they trade for minerals gas units, you release them and then you pull them back.
Especially with combination of tempest of ht, they beat every unit in game.
Zerg has vipers, which are useless vs carriers, but they can kill 20 vikings like on one click and they zerg can win with broodlords, since you have no vikings and raven pdd was nerfed about 100 second and seeker missle now cost 125 energy, it takes ages to get it and then your opponent simple pull his units back and it does nothing.
So noone build raven anymore, also zerg nydus is immortal so even you prepare for it you will lose, because queens which pops out instantly heal it.
In addition, this game has pretty crappy engine, it doesn't even support multicore and it is old like 8-9 years.
Which cause extreme cpu and gpu bottlenecking, you will be glad if you run this game on 60 fps lategame.
I can't really micro properly on 60fps, i am used play everygames on 144 and even it is not enough.
I can notice even 7 ms input lag according to blurbuster input lag ab test, so 60 fps feels like for me 25 fps for most people .
This game should really be optimized since it is played by pro gamers. also balance is awful, like swarmhost from hots, or protoss favored map for blinstakers rush, which causes 2014 was protoss wining all tournaments.
This is just very little piece of this game what is broken.
I play 1-2 games sometimes because of multitasking, that's all.
Also it doesn't cost even 30euro, how cheap it is, i was developed already 2010 or something, it doesn't change gameplay at all, only 2 units per race were added and it is still brainless clicker game, which oponent can click better and guess better, because protoss has 20 all ins and it is not scoutable, since he can proxy everywhere on map , or on base clifs and scan doesn't help, it is about luck, or reaper which can be easily killed before jumps on cliff, on some maps especially with only one entrance and even othermatches for example zvz is about luck as well.
I would give this game -10 if there was possibility of that.
Developers are just lazy and ignore community and earn free money of it.

Multiplayer wise, the new economy is much faster lowering the windows for cheese but the game is still a **** round of russian roullete. Its a mess and some units are such brutal hard counters, its game over as soon as their within sight and you have no response.

How to explain the last saga in this 3 tier epic behemoth of a game that shows true devotion to fans and quaiity. It's a feast!

The are many - MANY new things to multiplayer, so I will focus alone on the singleplayer campaign.

From the get-go you get an emotional introduction to Aiur and the lost protoss homeworld. Powerful strong and beautiful as ever by Blizzard.
The music here is out of this world - this is perhaps the best game soundtrack I've ever heard !
Singleplayer gives us more of the same, but also new additions. The management part is done as witht the previous installments, but still it seems fresh.
The graphics engine has been updated - and never has the Kprulu sector showed itself more beautiful and diverse as ever.

The story is excellent, a ton of drama and heartfelt moments that will stay with me forever... The ending perfect and bittersweet for a long time fan..

I can't give this game praise enough... If you don't know why this game, to many people is the best ever made - it is time !

As a huge and steady korean fan who has seen the game from the beginning to become most popular E-sports game, it was hard for me to decide whether to review this last expansion as a fan or in a viewpoint of newbie to the series. I'll try to maintain some distance to the game within my review though.

The first thing that welcomed me was in-game music. You'll meet a variety of remastered version of the original Starcraft & Brood War Protoss BGM, with magnificent scaled orchestra sounds. The grand-scaled musical expression really fits the near-apocalypse scene of the story. I'm sure both steady fans and those who are new to the game will like the music and atmosphere of it.

Unit and level design is also decent part of the game which makes the campaign highly replayable. There are 3 factors for each and every protoss unit that will attract gamers to play many missions repeatedly without feeling boring.

If ever seen any of Blizzard cinematic, then you'll raise your thumbs up before watching it. Everyone knows that Zeratul is one of the most honored protoss heroes, but in his last moment came out the lowest caste warrior's quote "My life for Aiur". Man, that quotation wouldn't have had so much burden like in that dramatic death of the most honored protoss hero.
With Tychus' "Hell, it's about time." and mourning zergling beside Kerrigan, this hero's lament will remain in the history of Starcraft series.

While the combination of remastered music, variable units, and dramatic composition deserves 11/10 score, there's one thing that ruins them after all. The STORY. I won't talk about it furthermore since nobody likes spoilers, but if you see the final scene, I swear you'll find yourself swearing all about Blizzard and its minions. For me, it was like ****

Remembering about the last scene makes me angry so I can no longer write review in peaceful mind. I'll stay angry until I see further story in coming DLC which Blizzard commented. Ciao.

The protoss campaign was great, it was quiet challenging for the first time even at normal difficulty. The character's fate, the storyline and the ending was OK - it could have been better though. There were some "illogical" decisions but still one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had.

Starcraft 2 was pretty bad when it came out, but with the focus being on Coop missions now, and Blizzard's efforts to keep those missions interesting, it's MUCH better.

The campaign is ok and multiplayer is a joke. It's all about Coop.

While still amazing and enthralling, I didn't quite feel that legacy of the void delivered the same level of impact and amazingness that Heart of the Swarm or Wings of Liberty did. It's still a fantastic experience, but it's not quite on par with the other two entries.

Starcraft II Legacy of the Void is a fitting conclusion to the Starcraft II trilogy. Blizzard once again proves its talent for crafting a compelling RTS campaign. I won't lie. There are some very strong emotional beats in this game and Blizzard's excellent cutscenes deliver it with their customary flair.

The mechanics are largely the same and the structure is similar to Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm. You have branching mission paths that allow you to choose which you want to take. As a result you earn new units which can then be augmented further into different variations. These variations offer an incredible level of control over the make up of your forces and allow for new tactics.

What I liked the most about Legacy of the Void was just how different each mission feels. The objectives are varied and present some tense moments. All of these factors come to make one satisfying package that caps off SCII.

Such a strategy seems to be for the most part in a single structure (battles on a limited area in the form of a map), but many levels in this game are something unique with their own ideas. And the rest, what are just battles with the bases, are still made so, that they are never boring, and you do not think that they are similar. In this game, absolutely everything is perfect. Still... at the end of the epilogue, once I realised this was the end of a story that started more than 15 years before, I felt a great void and sadness that there would be nothing after, like never in a video game (the last achievement is aptly named "end of an era", if you have any doubt).
Luckily it continues with the multiplayer, and the new co-op modes are a lot of fun.

It feels like the story of the first part is not ideal, but it was written by people with a level of knowledge comparable to university students .. It would seem that we have grown, they have too... Many naive works of art from our childhood grew up with us and began to acquire adult materialistic features or even rethought, without ceasing to be themselves, without losing the spirit of the original source. But not StarCraft. He not only remained in the same place, but also took a step back. Feels like the second part was written by schoolchildren. The game itself became brighter, the feeling of stuffiness disappeared, a large amount of children's humor appeared.
An evil villain who is evil because he is evil, Prophecies, chosen ones, cosmic magic, abstract gods devouring worlds to which it is difficult to experience any kind of emotion, just as a person is not able to feel the distance in light years (since our biology was formed in conditions where this was not necessary), pink queen of blades, with a healthy complexion, neat eyebrows, hair styling and lip gloss with stilettos from a modeling agency called "swarm" ... if stilettos are her evolutionary advantage, then what does the world in which she exist look like? The world of strip clubs? Queen of our ... "blades". She is no longer a ruthless sociopath and manipulator, but a campy hysterical model from high society in Zerg.
The first part is materialism, realism, and the second part is idealism and romanticism / classicism. The first SC is Terminator 1, 2, Alien 1, 2, Bladerunner and SC2 is Terminator 3, 5. This was the first time the game hurt me, the second time was BL3. In the opening videos Wol, Hots, LotV there is the spirit of the first part of the game, but in the game itself and in the rest of the videos, everything is much and much worse. And it's not the high cost of the videos, watch the SC: BroodWar videos. They are outdated, but they have a sense of danger, war, impending threat. The videos in the second part seem to be made by Hollywood. Secondary techniques, only proven methods. They seemed to come off the assembly line, as a result of the work of a raw neural network, and not of people.

I've been waiting for a developer to reinvent the RTS genre like "Supreme Commander" did back in the day. Starcraft 2 is not that game. There were fewer choices you could make with your hero, and the story and characters were cheesy. The storyline reads like amateur fan fiction filled with pompous speeches and mawkish melodrama, but it's hard to hold that against the game because that's what Starcraft storylines have always been. I recall liking Blizzard cutscenes at one point, but I now find myself falling asleep through the choreographed action sequences. I'm not sure if the games have changed or I have. Expand

I loved the original Starcraft and Brood war. And while Starcraft 2 is still good gameplay-wise and character-wise, the story is much worse. It feels like they wanted to get rid of the series. Wrap it all up and be done with it. Pretty stale and straight-forward, uninspired. No more twists, betrayals and interesting political situations, like the original story had.

    The whole Xel'naga

The whole Xel'naga and Duran story-line mystery especially has basically been straight up thrown away. That said, with Legacy of the Void they at least tried to make a good story with the new faction showing up and more. This is the only part of Starcraft II with a decent story.

In my personal experience, surviving in the MOBAs era has been a tough challenge for RTS games as a whole, as most MOBA games take away or heavily modified the 'Resource Management' and narrow the number of units to control to around one for the game to be more approachable on a wider range of players from different skill level. To be fair, RTS games usually feel overwhelming at first and require a good amount of dedication - both actively learning and playing if you want to play them competitively. In conclusion, if you have a passion for RTS games as a whole, SC2 is a highly recommended choice for your leisure time.

Overall, in my point of view, it is incredible to know that SC2, and its competitive scenes have been standing strong through the test of time. I have high hopes that SC2 will still be enjoyable by the coming generations for its core concept of RTS.

The single player campaign is very good, lots of variety and how a mission is done. Blizzard is the grandmaster when it comes to how to make single player RTS seem fresh and unique even though it is a RTS. Cinematics is top rate on their cut-scenes as well.

Отличная игра, с хорошим сюжетом и графикой.
Поставил плохую оценку, так как разработчики этой игры влезли в политику!

In some way it feels like StarCraft and just a little bit... rushed? I feel I just lack of something there.

Лучшая стратегия с самым удобным управлением, которое еще и можно настроить для себя! Самый крутой сюжет и кампания! Игра просто великолепна!

    Before Blizzard went full diversity.

SC2 has it all. A fast action packed gameplay, great complexity and unit variety, responsive controls and custom maps, coop as well as good MMR system.

Easily one of the top 50 games of all time, SC2 has been the go-to realtime strategy game for over a decade and for good reason.

The StarCraft II finale offers a decent but not breathtaking campaign and some tweaks to the multiplayer which now promotes quick, aggressive expansion. [01/2016, p.66]

This generous package will sustain and deepen the competitive side, but Legacy Of The Void also does enough not to scare away the casuals once the closing credits role and multiplayer beckons.

Overall, I can easily recommend Legacy of the Void to any current StarCraft II player, and if you're new to StarCraft II then now is the perfect time to jump in and experience the full story arc. Blizzard has once again managed to add to an already great existing game, making it better and more complete without breaking anything that made the game great in the first place.
