The game has flaws, but it's clear it was made with love and passion. The incredibly low scoring reviews on here are beyond unfair to the game, and while I do concede there's some things to iron out, the overall experience is fun, we should be encouraging both this type of game and this approach to not adding microtransactions and garbage like that.

Half the complaints are about launch bugs, while the other half seems to be militant conservatives just being offended that Star Wars doesn't always doesn't cater to their real-life worldview. The actual gameplay is extremely tight, with enough difference in control and aesthetic to make each ship unique. The story is higher production than expected, turning into a very standard Star Wars affair. It doesn't bring anything particularly new to the universe, but executes and entertains far better than most multiplayer-first games of today.

The VR experience is highly immersive and surprisingly not nausea-inducing, but the skybox is unfortunately very blurry which does take some visual depth away. It's probably a 7 with launch bugs and a 9 after they patch it, so I'm splitting the difference at 8.

Really enjoyable. I love the starfighters in X-WIng and this brings back all the joy of the old games with the added fun of multiplayer. I tried to keep my hopes in check, but this game exceeded my expectations and I am thoroughly enjoying how fun it is to fly in this game.

I am sincerely hoping they decide to actually add stuff. I would be willing to keep paying to get more ships,

A chance to fly a B-Wing (which is perfectly suited to the fleet battle) or do the Death Star Trench Run would be amazing.

Please Motive/EA... take my money and make this happen.

    This was my childhood dream...

I tought the dream came true in 1994 with X wing.. Then came Tie Fighter... Both were incredible games. A great plot, major story with voice acting and solid combat...

And years have passed... After X-Wing alliance, unfortunately there was no decent star wars -space simulation, hell... no space simulation whatsoever.

When I first heard about this, I was sceptical about the track record of EA and their latest star wars games... But for old times sake (And ofcourse VR) I pre-ordered the game...

First night was hard... The speed of the game and the dizzyness it created while trying to manuever was overwhelming.

The atmosphere was so mesmerizing... The closed spaces of a Tie fighter blocks VR's freedom.

But when I was in an A wing, the scenery was breathtaking. Great designed maps with lots of opprotunities to master, and hiding spots to exploit... The great flight mechanics, unbelieavable combat and feeling of success (when you learn how to manuever)...

With 4 of my friends we are in a Galaxy Far Far away, hunting the enemy...

And I have never felt that my dream finally came true like this before.

    Cons:
    - Only 6 maps and 2 game modes
    - Ship customization options are a bit low.
    - Pilot customizations have no effect except a 2 minute briefing and an endgame pose...

Fun Game Mechanics once you get used to the combat. The rush of putting power into your engines to boost and use the drift maneuver to get behind an enemy, then put all your power into the blasters to shoot down an enemy pilot all while doing barrel rolls through an asteroid belt will never get old! Game mechanics make up for the lack of content.

I haven't had time to look into Support ships yet, but it seems like they have some interesting options.

Playing this with Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Rudder Pedals, and HTC vive feels great. The resolution on the Vive could have been better, but everything you need to see is visible. It is clear that they have designed the UI to make sure everything you need is large enough in your cockpit to see with lower resolution VR.
I haven't noticed the deadzone issue I have heard about, but that could be because I have Yaw on the Rudder Pedals.

The gameplay is great, it's very much skill based and it makes you feel like you're actually in a cockpit on a real Star Wars mission (at least without the fear of actually dying). There are many cosmetics to collect and a variety of components that will actually change the way you play they aren't just there

Hopefully there will be a few more ships and the bugs will be squashed, so overall. I would give it a 8/10

For a non fully priced game it ticks all boxes for me and I am really enjoying it.

Only negative (because I like to always give one if I can) is that the ranked matches when someone quits you dont get the rank is really annoying as it hinders the progression.

No player dialog or anything, so the best dialog is when two other characters start talking to each other and ignore you. There are only a little more than a dozen single player missions, which is disappointing.

Gameplay, single and multi-player, is pretty solid. Controls on a Xbox controller are pretty solid, and the visuals are nice. The cockpits especially show a lot of love and attention, which is good because you spend a lot of time there.

I'm hopeful that future support for this game, free or expansion pack/dlc will add on additional campaigns and ship/pilot customization; but right now $40 gets you a full game. A campaign that is good enough and serves to get you acquainted with all of the ships, and a fun multiplayer that is something I've been wishing for for ages.

Right now there are no microtransactions, loot box or otherwise. All the Cosmetics and Ship Side-grades are unlocked by playing the game. This *is* EA though so if you are looking at this game in 3-6 months you might want to check to make sure that hasn't changed.

The only thing that drags it down a little is specifically on the pc, (as far as I know) the controls are a little hard, you have to press "6" for a resupply, which is really far from where your hand usually is.

I was experiencing an old school feel like maybe something where you could play through a rebel campaign of 15 missions and then 15 missions of imperial, kind of like with the original Command and Conquer. Playing both sides simultaneously was interesting but ultimately felt a bit unfocused. Interesting though. I think these guys should remake X-Wing and Tie Fighter together in one game where you can choose sides and then play through those campaigns. Those games are crying out for remasters. Expand

You either don't not see where the cursor is, or get bugged down with the "restrain mouse control" feature... They added a "mouse sensitivity which change NOTHING" in game, but to prevent you to use the wheel commands. I don't have a decent joystick, but my old one didn't give much benefit in my aiming either.

UI: I don't know who designed that UI, but the constant loading screen to change section in the UI is obnoxious. Plus half the time in multiplayer escape doesn't do what it's supposed to do. It feels like none tested it, or didn't bother fixing it.

Multiplayer: Most of the time multiplayer is ok, until you get this weird bug when you ask to join but doesn't join a game, and it just cancel the matchmaking. Or you join a game with no count down at the start with 1 player missing on a 10/10 lobby. The game Think you have 10 player, but you don't and there's no count down.

The game needed to be delayed to polish the edges. I'm glad i didn't had to pay 40$ for that game because it's not worth that for now. It's another release it now, fix it later tittle. A shame because the concept is GOOD, the delivery, not so much.

The GOOD: looks great mostly and sounds great and the idea is great and there are wow moments. It has some neat cockpits.

BAD: story is a tired cliche mess. Lots of tech issues and performance problems and the flight stick does not work as intended. Lacks polish and content. A few modes and 6 hrs single play with no secrets. A few old ships we've already used and no b-wings. Small maps for mp. Lots of hand holding and giant tutorials. VR cutscenes not in VR. DROIDS do nothing at all which is against lore and other games. The hub area is teleport rubbish. Nothing much to do and not hub space for MP. Cosmetics and upgrades change nothing. Only one view point. CAnnot use your hands in VR and flight stick doesnt move but throttle does. Many small issues too which distract from what could have been amazing. The game has not been play tested. You are paying to do that for them.

Also you're supporting Disney and EA so ...don't.

I was able to get everything running pretty smoothly with my VR headset and flight stick, but like all sim games there is a bunch of configuration after getting it running, but the menus are decent even in a headset without a keyboard or mouse.

But even still there are a few bugs and a pretty big one in ranked multiplayer that makes it impossible to take multiplayer serious right now.

I have started to recommend the game to friends, but with the warning that there are still some bugs in the game, but it is a blast to fly around in VR.

(Everything below is from release night)
The game has shipped in a very bad state. The "VR Support" and "HOTAS Support" just isn't there for PC. There are multiple problems with HOTAS deadzones. And for VR you HAVE to have your keyboard and mouse to play so anyone with a sim setup is going to be sitting with a keyboard in their lap while playing...

And if you get it on Steam and this is your first EA game on Steam you have to link your EA account with your Steam account. If you already have another EA game (say Fallen Order) this wasn't that big of a deal, but for this game the account link screen is buggy, and you have to do it from in game. It took me about an hour to figure out how to get past EAs login just to link my account.

This is the first non-Nintendo game that I have pre-ordered in years. I completely regret buying it and thankfully I should be able to get a refund for it. Going back to Elite Dangerous for my space sim needs.

I don't know why they did that. You remove those lame characters and put regular Star Wars vilain, you give the ability to control the ship when leaving/reentering the hangar and it's an easy 8/10. This game was welcomed with open arms, especially by critics and sometimes uncritically, as ironic as this may seem. Star Wars has a strong hold on people's heartstrings but gamers have found themselves disappointed for well over a decade now. What Star Wars Squadrons brings is not the saviour of the game series, but it is a shining ray of hope.

A lot of emphasis has been placed on the graphics here. When not in your ship, the cutscenes are impressive and observing them in the hangar is an impressive sight. The downside is that you don't get to free-roam; instead pointing and clicking from room-to-room which I suspect is to make VR smoother for gamers. Speaking of which, I did not play this in VR at all, so bear this in mind when reading my review. Having said that, I think there is a lot of space for improvement in the graphics department. The backgrounds are excellent, however these become repetitive. What I would like to see going forward is battles that take place not just in outer space, but on planets such as Tattooine to provide a variety of backdrops. One final note; the thing that annoyed me most was that I was limited to cockpit-view throughout the game. This is not my preferred POV so it quite marred the experience for me. You can tell they wanted to focus the game on VR but diversity is always better.

The story isn't anything special, and other than the appearance of Darth Vader at the beginning it really lacks some star power and figures from the movies to capture my interest. You play as a mostly nameless protagonist that you customise at the beginning of the game but this is rather limited, making me suspicious that microtransactions are on their way. A core element of the story was the constant switching between the Imperials and the Rebels for each mission. I would have much preferred to have chosen one side to play as consistently throughout the game and this could have opened up the option of having different endings depending on which side you choose. Instead, one minute you are in a Tie Fighter, then an X-Wing, then a Tie Interceptor followed by an A-Wing. Speaking of ships, where are the classics such as the Millennium Falcon? Canon or not I'd love to fly these ships again.

Finally, the gameplay. This is where I had a love-hate experience. Generally, flying and dogfighting is enjoyable, but what really took away from the experience for me was just how bloody slow all aircraft seem to be! Some have good speed and acceleration, however in a dogfight it takes forever to manoeuvre these, meaning that even on the easiest difficulty my enemies had an easy time flying rings around me. What this also means that I found it harder to tell the difference between the craft other than how the cockpit looked. This also pushed me towards a style of gameplay I'll call 'turreting', which is when your aircraft sits completely still in mid-air and you simply fire directly at opponents. I struggled to succeed with any other style of gameplay than this. Ace Combat 7 has captured gameplay fairly well so I don't know why a company like EA are struggling with the money they have behind them.

One more thing. I cannot conclude without stating how barebones this game is. Given the mediocre quality I'm actually happy that the campaign was so short so I didn't get too bored of it, however what I'm seeing is a game that's a platform for yet another live services model stuffed full of microtransactions. They aren't in the game yet but this is EA we're talking about, so watch closely and get it for less than £20, or not at all if the live services begin to fester into the game and ruin it. Overall, it's a step in the right direction but another missed opportunity.

I really like space games and have several flight sticks and pedals etc and the great news is: sticks and pedals are fully supported. Hotas, hosas, pedals. All supported.

The bad new that it doesn't matter much. At least not on on a detailed level as I had hoped for flight control. Squadrons quite simply doesn't feel like flight in space at all. No real drift aside from a manual button

The graphics are even on ultra not a real highlight as they are made for VR performance I guess... and then there are the bugs. Keybindings don't react as bound for the mission prompts, the camera seems to have a life of its own when no vr is connected, etc. But my biggest gripe is to be confronted with such a overly casual flight handling. I am sure that it will be lots of fun for many players who just want to make things go boom, and for players like me the piloting skill involved and needed is simply too unrealistic, simple and dumbed down too much.

Also the HUD seems like a ancient thing, probably also in favor of VR. I recommend this game ONLY for VR use. I have a VIVE but even that could not make me want to play more due to the underwhelming flight handling. Just too simplistic for me. After having played it I really think that most of the hight and great "official" reviews were money based, not honesty based. Oh, one more positive: it has good 21:9 support if you ignore video cutscenes.

However, the gameplay controls in Star Wars Squadrons are terrible for space dogfighting and there are way better games out there that are far superior in every way if you want an actual enjoyable space battle game. The cockpit instruments are boring, the resource management, while simple, is not very intuitive during fast-paced battles, and the hud is boring and not very creative. Flight controls are a chore rather than feeling immersive or fun. To top that off, the story is mediocre and the characters are not likable, boring, corny, and frankly the alien races feel like something out of a poorly written sci-fi novel written for tweeners. This all makes for a game that is really meant to be played more like Battlefront 2 without the ground battles and frankly I'd probably rather play Battlefront 2 for the space battles than Squadrons because it was more enjoyable. And then there's the fact that for whatever reason unknown to me, after starting the game up a few hours after the first time I played it, the game was buggy with noticeable and frequent audio and video stuttering. I tried everything I could to remedy the problem including reinstalling the most up-to-date drivers, reinstalling the game, adjusting different graphics settings, locking the framerate at every different cap, and switching between fullscreen and borderless. Nothing seemed to remedy the problems though the game was playable after tolerating it for like 10 minutes or so. My hardware exceeds the recommended specs and none of my other games were causing me problems so I can only assume it was an not optimized game at launch. I am giving it a five because for Star Wars people that want to have pvp dogfights and space battles this game scratches that itch, but I do not recommend it. I ended up getting a refund for this game because it was just not for me. Expand

The games is a classic arcade space shooter with a somewhat lame and simple story, with very cool SW environments. It feels like someone was trying to add some space sim features but failing at it. Also, the HOTAS support is bad and broken. Instead of spending time to add milions of keybindings that do absoloutetly NOTHING, they should have spent the time to add a better hotas support.

The missions become repetitive, the combat environments are very nice but the game fails to use them in a meanigfull way, they are there just as background. The game is arcady, but the ship don't feel good to move around. Plus there is NO variety of combat .. just pew pew of red lasers and a random missile.

Mouse controls are terrible and a pad is a must. Alternatively you can remap the keyboard for a more dynamic experience. What is absolutely barbaric is that the game physics do not use any form of inertia in space. While at the subject of space, why are all the battles taking place in space alone? Why are there no on - world atmospheric missions? NPC's could be completely skipped as a wooden block would have more to offer. The only thing this game actually does have to offer are really amazing graphics, too bad that there are so many graphical artifacts (v - sync doesn't always work right, you can get stuck on a piece of a space debris). What is an utmost atrocity is that the story regardless of the side chosen is linear and failed missions simply restarts having no impact on the final outcome. To summarize:
    - game is extremely short
    - linear story line, missions have no impact on the story or upcoming missions
    - gorgeous unfortunately under-optimized graphics
    - terrible controls and ship functionality
    - unrealistic space - physics
    - music is yet another SW copy/paste
    - meaningless NPC's

The story is a snorefest but hey at least there is a story? The match making servers are finicky at best and ranked games are not counted if a single person leaves during a match, let alone the match make ranking just places everyone in the bottom as of this review no matter how good or poorly you play.

I played with Mouse + Keyboard and this is my biggest gripe. If your mouse isn't even slightly centered there is a drift that completely screws with shooting. This game feels more like a half baked game jam idea that EA decided to slap a Star Wars label on and give too small of a budget and development window. It's overall frustrating after watching the trailers and gameplay, awing at the speed and agility of the ships but reality slaps you in the face. The piloting doesn't give you the feeling of speed or maneuverability, most of the time you are just aimlessly flying around. Battlefront 2 space battles are more akin to what I was expecting this entire game just feels off.

Edit- Before spending 40 bucks on this if you are a Star Wars fan maybe consider EA Play as a cheaper option to try.

Finally yea the game was made through woke colored glasses.
First you will notice you have very few characters for selection. Most of the choices are only female and I don't think one of them was even fair skinned. Apparently in the woke world, you are only worthy if you're not male and your skin color is beyond specific melatonin levels.

Flight sticks have an horrible big dead zone.
Some actions are needlessly cumbersome and horribly designed (I would need two thumbs to do one of them, when using simply 2 buttons would have made it both easy and efficient : no can do).

As far as the game goes, there are stuttering problems even with high-end hardware.

Playing, it took me a while to realise listening to the objective was counter-productive : kill everything and do NOT do what they tell you to do, it's usually a one-way ticket to lose.

During one of my earliest missions, I died several times before understanding I was too close from some "damaging area" while chasing other fighters. It didn't appear to be a bother for any other ship but mine.

I also despise the small maps (turn around now or die, whoops : too late). Your "team" often flights next to you which makes it weird when you realise they are following you following them in the wrong direction.

At the end of one mission, escaping a place at high velocity (it was a requirement), I found myself way past the rendez-vous point when it finally appeared after the pointless chit-chat ended. Boom : I'm dead. You can imagine I will not try this ♥♥♥♥ again to get the survivalist achievement.

Speaking about stupid or unfair deaths : at the end of yet another mission (Empire), I managed to destroy specific parts of a big enemy ship to ease its obliteration. My this last task done, I'm peacefully heading to the hangar to end it. A few seconds away from the door, from the corner of my eye I see a Empire support ship (ally) coming fast from the right, reaming into me : boom, dead.

To the list of annoyances, you can add the intrusive tutorials who DEMANDS you to do some action while you already did it, hiding your current target with a stupid window and of course making you fail what you were doing (most of the time, putting shield front and firing to a squad doing the same to you). You can imagine how this kind of ♥♥♥♥ ends and how frustrating it is.

Imagine that all this ♥♥♥♥ is just from the top of my head.

The game isn't very expensive but it's worth way less.

*) If you do, you can also skip the game. You'll get allergies.

Initially fun, but quickly turns into a tedious grind. The story was basic, disappointing. The urge to remain politically correct has rendered elements of the game redundant. I would recommend waiting for a sale on this one rather than paying full price.

    [Character Customisation/Creation]

You can clearly tell that the desperate attempt to remain politically correct was given higher priority than other essential aspects of this game.

Each pilot (New Republic/Empire) has a default name which can't be edited. Which is absolutely pointless as it's not used at all during the entire campaign. They always refer to you as your call sign. You also pick a voice which is only used for one line in the entire game "I need a resupply" when you request one.

Then you've got the appearance. There are a male and female variation of every race available, However they've been very careful to not mention gender anywhere and allow you to use male voices for female and vice versa to check that politically correct box. The whole game is also in first person so you never see your customised character either.

The fact that voices aren't used, names aren't referenced and you never see your character during the entire game gives the impression that something was intended here, but the politically correct brigade stepped in last minute to make it redundant.

    [Controls]

These were awful, even by the end of the campaign they didn't seem right. Yes you do have the ability to remap them entirely, but the issue is that every single control is already in use, so it's hard to move anything from the thumb sticks.

For example the throttle up and down is on the left thumb stick, along with roll, which means you're constantly accidently affecting your speed when trying to manoeuvre or vice versa. Also worse is that if you click the left thumb stick it boosts your engine, which resulted in scenarios where I boosted into an obstacle several times.

If I were to remap, due to every button being in use, something hand to replace where the throttle sat and so would cause the same issue. Compared to other combat flight sims this was a poor.

    [Gameplay]

Tedious. I was hoping for a little more variety with the environment. Perhaps a land map where you're attacking ground targets. Instead everything is in space where you're either dog fighting or attacking the same capital ships over and over. It was initially fun, but quickly turned into a grind after the first few missions.

The ship selection is good, they've done well to ensure each ship has significant roles to play.

    [Virtual Reality]

Fantastic! You can see this was one of the key considerations. For me personally motion sickness is definitely a risk and I found myself requiring a good break between missions to recover. In fact for the last few missions I avoided using VR. The very fact that I did feel rough when barrel rolling and flying upside down is a credit to the realistic flight simulation this game provides.

    [Story]

Standard. From the trailers and initial revealed gameplay I was hoping for something deeper. Instead the Titan Squadron were the stereotypical bad guys who all possessed English accents (missed out xenophobia on the political correctness list there guys). Vanguard Squadron on the other hand all had American accents and played the underdog as usual.

I was hoping for more interaction with the members of the squadron, instead you get a brief dialogue with them sporadically in between missions where all you can do is listen, no interaction or opportunity to build a relationship whatsoever.

There is one point in the game where it gives the impression of a morale choice, but as it's one of the objectives anyway you have no choice.

Cause. Oh.. also, empire is the bad guys, if you didn't know. They'll shove that down your throat just like every other mediocre star wars game has, don't worry !
4 - Dogfight is literally just skirmish mode. Same maps. No objectives, just first to 30 kills.
5 - Fleet battles is fun. If it wasn't a ****ing pre-alpha version. For one, the ranking system doesn't work at all, and you can only play ranked if you want to PvP (LMFAO WHAT?) Seriously. Fleet battles you might play support, or go for a bombing, but 3-4 people on your team are going to be fighters most of the time. THIS GAMEPLAY IS CARRIED OVER TO EVERY PART OF THE GAME. INCLUDING THE STORY. SIX MAPS. COPY PASTED FROM THE CAMPAIGN. You know what you do in the campaign? Some cool trench runs? Maybe some cinematic sequences, escaping 2 colliding ships or something AWESOME? TOO ****IN BAD. THE STORY IS THE SAME THING AS MULTIPLAYER, you do the same stuff on the SAME MAPS :D Shoot the fighters! OKAY! Now, shoot the objective! ----OR: Defend the frigate (by shooting the fighters) and then defend the objective (by shooting the fighters, that are shooting the objective....) And the only thing that ever changes is that you will be forced to support and shield objectives and teammates for 5 minutes straight, every few missions. Jesus. EVERY MODE IS COPY PASTED. THE MAPS ARE IDENTICAL, AND THERE'S ONLY ****ING SIX? I thought there was 7 but it turns out, that's just a random map option...... lol. It put on a good show at first but after playing for a bit you can really see how ****ing lazy this launch was. It was BARE minimum on every mode. Every mode has 80-90% of the same gameplay and you end up repeating it over and over again.... which would be FINE for the competitive format in PvP. But we already talked about that ****

7 - Conclusion : This hurts. This actually hurts. It could've been so good. But a week has gone by and we've gotten 1 patch on day 6. And here's the kicker, it didn't fix ****ing anything. Not a god damn thing. They gave us patch notes (that were pathetically short), but the funny thing is, NOTHING that got "fixed" in the patch ACTUALLY GOT FIXED.

    WHAT ARE THEY DOING?

So effectively, I gave this game a 9, then a 6 on day three. Now, players have left the game in masses. It takes me 4 minutes to find a game, and somebody will still leave mid match. On launch day, I would be in queue for less than a second (instantly queue with 3 platforms). Now that everybody realizes it's not going to get better for a while, they've stopped playing.

I'm bumping my score waaaaaaaaaaaaaay down (especially after they have taken so long to patch and treat their customers right). This is an easy 3/10. Do NOT buy.

The playable character is a mute and you can't ever see him, the dialogues are totally irrelevant and a waste of time. PvP also lacks content so it's not tempting at all after 2-3 rounds of Dogfight and Fleet Battles. Technically it's a joke, the visuals and sounds are mediocre (would be ok 5 years ago) but the music is simply copied file by file from Battlefront 2. And I'm all for diversity, but not having a single white male even in the Empire is nonsense. The controls are horrible. The gameplay is bland and repetitive. The graphics dont look good for a 2020 game. The sound sucks as well, the music isnt nearly as epic as in the old games.
The characters are all overdone and artificial. Like an AI wrote them and their dialogue.
"Diversity" was obvious the main goal, while everything else was ignored.

The star field looks pathetic and for some reason the whole game is as bright as day every single time. Dark space? Nope! Children could be afraid in the dark I guess...
    Adjusting brightness doesnt help much.
All in all it looks like someone made this game who has never played the classics. Nothing is canon.
TIE fighters are flying tanks and have missiles, X-Wings have missiles and other fantasy weapons, theres scores of BS upgrades that make this game look like a generic mobile game, Star Destroyers look tiny, ridiculous and simply stupid added mechanics, (like slowing down to turn faster - and make yourself a better target - or slowing down and turning erratically to get rid of missiles), the story is laughable and inauthentic in the first few minutes, face palming is your permanent body stance.

The only good thing about this game is that they actually made use of joysticks possible, but I fear thats mostly thanks to Windows itself.

They could have made so many things so much better. But instead they just made everything worse.
I thought at least the gameplay would be challenging, and more realistic due to the capabilities of todays PCs, but instead we got the same stupid wave after wave of TIEs as 30 years ago.
Only this time they made them harder to kill and more accurate than in the movies.
20-40 TIE fighters to one X-Wing, which need 1 to 3 shots to kill, like in the movies?
Nope! Lets lets just do everything worse and dont think about what we could do better.
Oh yeah, and the AI is more stupid than 30 years ago. Thats also quite the achievement.
Pathetic and laughable for the year 2020. The game just feels extremely cheap and unfinished for an "AAA" publisher.
Give this franchise to someone who loves Star Wars and has talent!
Thank god I never paid for it. I wish I could still refund it on EGS (free title), to not give EA and money from this.

While a great idea in theory, its execution of a Star Wars space fighter game is terrible.
There is no grand campaign or custom sandbox or couch co-op. It's a very short linear game.
The characters are unlikable and certain choices were made with them clearly at the last minute which hurts their development as it feels so unnatural and forced.

Game Summary: 100% woke and 100% broke.

It was more important to make sure one of the characters has "preferred pronouns" and that another male pilot has a husband, than actually produce a game without significant bugs at launch. Multiple Crashes/Freezes for no reason and motion blur ruins the sky box in VR.

To put it simply, Star Wars: Squadrons is a low-budget X-Wing vs TIE Fighter II based off of Battlefront II’s space battles. I admit that I expected more, but after two decades we finally got a new Star Wars sim (leaning towards the arcade side, but still) and I did enjoy it. It looks and sounds like a Star Wars game should, and Motive’s successful effort to balance such dissimilar crafts as the X-Wing and the TIE Fighter is commendable. [12/2020, p.64]

There’s a good concept at the core of Star Wars: Squadrons, as flying a space fighter and managing its systems can be a lot of fun, however, you have to be a very dedicated Star Wars fan to enjoy a drab campaign with just a handful of memorable moments and watered-down multiplayer modes from Battlefront 2.
