If you like Star Trek, it's hard not to recommend this to you. It's a sharp game with issues that can often be attributed to the title's budget. It can become somewhat repetitive because the strategy aspect doesn't really offer much variety in its setup. What you do in the first solar system, you do - with few exceptions - in the later star systems as well. Despite this, I still think it's a competent product and perhaps one of the best games in the Star Trek universe I've had the pleasure of testing.

Space may be the final frontier, but this game clearly needed one more trip through QA. The combat rarely clicks, and the voice acting and animation struggle to keep pace, yet the resource management is sublime and the UI design genuinely excellent. Focus on its strategic and narrative strengths, and this Trekkie adventure might still live long and prosper in memory.

Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown is a text and story-heavy trek that follows the story of Voyager as it returns from the Delta Quadrant, but allowing you to change the events of the story in a game that has impactful choices wrapped around an FTL-style survival game and copious amounts of resource management. Not a masterpiece, the sum feels like more than the whole, though I will admit my view may be clouded as a fan of Star Trek, Voyager, and the genre.

The title of the best Star Trek game in years still ultimately belongs to a merely solid narrative-driven experience, one that alternates between engaging and exhausting scavenging across the Delta Quadrant. Across the Unknown is a sincere and ambitious project, but one frequently held back by its limited budget and draining mechanics.

Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown has a lot to offer fans of the series, but might struggle to attract others thanks to the challenge and lack of interactivity.

GameExcite not only shows its love for Star Trek: Voyager with this game, but also its respect for it, offering an outstanding survival and exploration experience, just like the hardships the crew had to endure during its seven-year journey home. It's not a perfect game; there are elements of its interface and mechanics that could be improved, and it can make you want to tear your hair out at times, but the feeling you'll have when you finish it will be just as emotional, if not more so, than what the ship's crew felt when they returned to Earth. Of all the Star Trek games that have been released, this one is undoubtedly among the best.
