I was so excited to finally be playing the famed Star Trek Series online. But after 3 months, the games fees very 2D... Very shallow, and very unworthy of the Star Trek title. The game amounts to grinding for weapons and upgrades and then attempting to take on elite battles against NPCs or other elite human players just to find out that the past 3 weeks of grinding to upgrade your weapons was not nearly enough... I have repeated this trend in the game 20-30 times and have had enough. OK, that sums up space combat...
Now for ground combat. Is there anyone who does not think that diving behind cover should then allow the NPCs to continue to fire through the cover and kill you? Really? The engine is a hit or no hit engine without any critical hit areas defines on the body map of the player. So head shots mean nothing. Ground cover means nothing. Just grind grind grind to get a better weapon and hope that your skill set matches the mission you are about to take on for the 100th time...
And wait! $200 for a lifetime membership to the game??? Really??? Good grief. I cant believe someone actually smoked crack and paid that much for this grind fest.

Every year there is new ships and the developers give you a new one more or less once a year.
about the textures complaints i have a state of the art computer and graphic card and everything runs smooth.Maybe the complaints come from people with bad configurations or bad graphic cards

The Best game ever, absolutely amazing. Very good graphics, feels just like a Star Trek game should. Large customization. The missions are really good, but I can see why people complain. YOU NEED TO READ THE STORY so it is good. I recommend it any day. Also I would have gave Star Trek Online a 7 a year ago, but the rate of progress is very good. Very strategic as well.

I recently came back, knowing Star Trek Online went F2P. I have to say they have done an awesome job organizing the skills/abilities/ship stat, and generally smoothing out the game.
I stopped about 3 months after STO launched, for the most part I quit because of all the stats/skill being so jumbled up that it toke forever to figure out what stat was good for what ability/skill etc etc. ,Oh

As games go this is one that should be used as a great idea turned into a dismal failure. Instead of fixing the bugs and glitches which are numerous they decided to add more content, and forget about writing them a stern note on the bugs you have, they appear to be deaf as well as incompetent.

Star Trek: Online is constantly being updated and improved and it's mostly a changed game from when it was first released. Space combat is awesome, missions are awesome, graphics and music are awesome.

Graphics: The Graphics aren't quite good, but not terrible either, I would prefer them over others. I rate Graphics at a 6/10
Pogression: 60 Levels (65 when V.I.L gets released), With 6 Tiers of ships, 1 of which requires ZEN (Premium Currency) to obtain, and a Sub-Tier, (T5-U). I will run through each Tier as follows.
    T1 Level 0-10, Starter Ships.
Very weak ships that do serve their purpose for lower levels, however lose efficiency after Level 10, where more effective ships are obtainable.
    T2: 10-20, Low-Midlevel Ships
An upgrade over T1, they have more weapons, consoles, BOFF seats etc. However they like T1, lose efficiency after level 20.
T3: 20-30, Mid-level These ships are definite upgrades over T2, and if done right can even hold their own vs high level areas, but are still lacking in comparison to higher tier.
T4: 30-40, Mid-Upper Level These ships are average, being more effective then T3 obviously,

T5 & T5-U: Upper Level, These i will give a more in depth description of, they are the ships you'll see high levels use the most (Aside from T6), having the better stats, and arguably the most ships, however you are often limited in your ship choices unless you pay zen, or contribute a bunch of resources to a Fleet with a Military Shipyard T5, (For all options) There are also Fleet Variants with higher health then average, but now onto the T5-U, Most ships have this as an option, but it requires a (Surprise surprise) Upgrade Token, which you pay about $5 for, or buy them on the Exchange for a stupidly high price. Once you do this, you can level the ship up for traits, and it has increased stats Now onto T6
T6: Level 50+ These are the most powerul in the game, earned in lockboxes, or bought for $30+, There was a event for the birthday of the game however that did give a free T6 Starship.
Progression rating: 4/10 due to the amount of microtransaction.
Thats all I can be bothered with typing, thank you for reading.

This review was posted on Steam 5 Feb, 2018 at 1:07pm by me. I am plagiarizing myself because I am too lazy to write another one, and that review would most likely end up like this :)

I've been playing this game for 5 years in a row, and I will play until it's death. Why? Because the game is gamer friendly. Why made this statement even if there are lootboxes and sometimes pay 2 win aspect? First thing first, you can get THREE free Tier6 ship per year, those ships have useful perks, also you can build a good set without any spending because you have options to grind them(and slaps this Endevour system in your face every day after reaching level 60. This system gives you a lot of in-game credits per day if you have time for dailies, and if you play well, you can loot trash items in battlezones, and sell them or simply salvage them for item stat reroll salvages.). The game have a TON of features like Admiralty, Duty officers, reputation(endgame) system(don't forget the game have nearly the same amount of active missions like The Nxxt Ganeration had [also doing missions gives you items that helps you progress]). Good perks are locked behind crates, BUT plenty of ZEN store ships have literally the same ability and also a lot cheaper than getting a lock box ship with literally no chance at all.
-- Suggestion: If you have 30 euros for it, buy Arbiter T6 battlecruiser for a start, it gives you 50percent less weapon energy consumption for 30secs if you activate emergency weapon 1-2-3 ability, with it you can maximize DPS easily, BUT! without it you can play well. There is a trick: Achieve delta reputation Tier4, slap "Enchanced Rending Shots" on ground and ship reputation slots. Voila, you do critical hits more frequent! And if you get a [CritD]x2 blue build(because thats a lot cheaper than a purple build for first build), you will combine frequent crits with bigger hit damages.--
Honestly, if the whole game is free, why would you bother if the game has microtransactions, it is OPTIONAL, it's like a cheat code to skip some content in-game in singleplayer games, but it has a price because it is a service in MMOs. Be smart, don't spend thousands of dollars for lockboxes, there are always methods to maximize your DPS and have a lot of fun wthout spending a cent.

    Cheers, and have fun!

The best thing going for this game is the character creation at the very start of the game. You can change almost everything about your character's face and body, even your uniform color scheme. Instead now you press "fire all weapons" over and over while spinning in circles. Quests are dull and lifeless. Differences in quest types are very few. You're constantly fighting the same kinds of ships and ground enemies. There is little to no change in the game, and I played until level 30 or so. Ship tier customization is a joke. Personal class choices are a joke and don't really affect you in space but they do a little bit on the ground. The entire MMO is a cluster of instances with no real base. The way you travel is through a bland and near empty tactical map, traveling from one instance to another. Horrible game, horrible MMO, horrible score. It only gets a 4 because the game was fun for the first 30 minutes. What you see in 30 mins. is what the game is, just repeated over more dull levels. Expand

Ship combat is quite fun when you get the hang of the controls. The rest however needs quite a bit of work to be enjoyable. Ground combat is just plain boring. It should have been called Star Trek at war online. Its missing more of the "to boldly go" than the shows.

This game has about 4 good points to it, but none of them are enough to make me play this game anymore than the 20 levels I've gone through. Space combat is fun if not repetitive. This game has a lot of detail, unfortunately most of it is useless filler. What isn't filler is unorganized, inefficient and boring. Especially ground missions which is running through a series of hallway connected rooms activating consoles and fighting groups of enemies. Or you in a small area outside on some planet doing the same. This formula is pretty much the main aspect of ground play. Regardless of WHAT you have to do the formula to do it the same.

  1. This is as fine a[n] homage to one of Sci-fi's great franchises a[s] you can get in an MMO format.
  2. Despite all of these complaints, those hordes of starship captains are quite happy. They may not have many different things to do, and the missions and UI may be rather buggy, but there does seem to be enough content to sustain them - at least until the endgame - and even at its worst that content is knockabout fun with more instant appeal, and more suitability for casual, short-session, low-commitment play than most MMOs.
