The lack of features brought by the Xbox Series X|S upgrade does not detract from the fun available in Star Trek Online, but you’ll need to look past the 2007 graphical style.

Whilst it is a very basic, outdated and often boring gaming experience, it has a few key things going for it. Firstly, it is entirely free and I haven’t found any major pay walls to contend with, and at the same time, it does offer excellent use of the license.

Despite some awkward controls and less-than-exciting missions, the game gives a loving nod to the Star Trek universe. Its fine eye for detail in the Star Trek mythos and its excellent customization options add an extra dimension of depth to what would otherwise have been a hum-drum game.

If you are a hardcore Star Trek fan and can look past the clunky controls and bland visuals, there is a lot of great customization options available to the player. Casual fans of Star Trek might be turned off by the games repetition, complexity and awkward controls.

Do not buy the all faction bundle or Federation, Romulan or Klingon Bundles, they will not give any starships, do not let people think you have wrong ranks, you are awarded 2 ships from the beginning, the packs are bugged.
The bug will not allow you to claim any of the ships in the console bundles, it wont even set your account to be able to claim them.

#1. I found out I still love this game---its even better when its free.

Positives: The console control in space combat is superior to the PC version, with the exception of the character abilities. I die much less often now! Graphics aren't choppy like they tended to be in the PC version. Episodes are fun and you can level up much quicker than in the original game.

Negatives: No more exploration missions---which the level grinder in me loved the hell out of.

I would tell you to buy it, but since its free...just download and play it....Especially if you are a fan of star trek.

First of all it's free, and I haven't come across any big paywalls yet, so kudos to that. It's a lot of fun flying around the galaxy doingFirst of all it's free, and I haven't come across any big paywalls yet, so kudos to that. It's a lot of fun flying around the galaxy doing missions, checking out other players, etc. However the missions can be quite dull, and the graphics are dated. The game is also very glitchy, particularly with regard to the animations. In fact the whole thing looks like a game that's ten years out of date. Everything here has already been done much better with Mass effect. Having said all that the Trek universe is well realised, there's lots of replay value and the game can get quite deep in terms of customisations. It seems like they've done all the hard stuff (missions, no lag, customisations, plenty of replay value) but the obvious stuff (graphics, glitches, audio) lets the game down. Expand
